Unsubbed. Liberty Valance is mine, you can't have it.
Great to see your year of Lynch go from strength to strength :) Nothing says film fan quite like the move from Lynch to Miyazaki to Spaghetti Western to Horror. Enjoyed your run through as always :)
Hey Nathan. I'm loving the Film Journal series. I'll admit, I've had to skip around the Twin Peaks chat because I'm just getting in to it myself. I love that you're going through your collection and watching things that are on the shelves and enjoying the process. I think it's so important to get through what we have and you're killing it. I always enjoy hearing your thoughts on what you've watched and it has me making my own list of things that need to come off the shelf and into the watch pile. Thanks for the inventive. And yes, we horror folks are a bit weird but it just makes us more loveable. ❤❤
You making me excited to get more into Lynch especially the Oz references.
Nathan, I’ve been enjoying your journal videos. Now that you are doing the journaling, are you still going to a list of 31 films to watch for Spooktober? I’ve always loved your Halloween challenge. It’s fun to watch a horror film everyday in October!
Wait Until Dark is a movie I've got on the shelf but haven't got around to watching. Might be suited for the upcoming spooky season... I recently watched Hundreds of Beavers for the podcast, what a great mashup of silent cinema and Looney Tunes stylings!
It's very good and I know both of you would love it! And that film sounds absolutely mental, in the best way 🤘
That opening sequence in Barbarella!!!! 😜😍
👀👀🤩
From the same period (August 25 onwards?): I watched and can throughly recommend: 'Comradeship' (AKA Kameradschaft, 1931), 'Monster' (2003), 'Chinatown', 'the Delinquents' (2023), 'The Cure' (1997), 'The Shop at Sly Corner' (1947) and 'The Juniper Tree' (1990). Talking of Folk Horror, you need to check out 'The Outcasts' by Robert Wynne-Simmons. It's just about to re-released as part of the BFI Flipside series.
Fantastic choices, Andy! I have a few of those that I still need to check, but great recs 🤘 Adding The Outcasts to the cart
As always, more introductions to movies I would have never considered! Thanks for all the recommendations!
Thanks for being here, Brian! Always happy to give some recs 🤘
I gotta check out Dead Snow! I am not much of a horror fan but if it's a comedy horror then I'm down. Do you have movie Overlord produced by JJ Abrams and directed by Julius Avery? Or have you seen that one? It's a war era Nazi zombie movie and well done. Has an amazing opening scene!
It's definitely more on the comedic side of it. And Overlord is great! Very fun concept and a wild one at that!
Love Wait Until Dark 🔪 Now I’ll have to checkout Witness!
It's so good! And I hope you are able to check out Witness soon 🤘
They Might Be Giants is a long term fave of mine. It shouldn't have been a surprise - I had the Indicator on my best of vid last year :( It's almost a proto-Fisher King.
@DavysFlicks Really glad you got it in front of me, despite picking up the Kino edition. Now I'm excited to finally watch Fisher King, it's sounds like!
I like RED and WHITE but I can't get on with BLUE, although I've watched it three times it still does nothing for me
Really? That's fascinating to hear and refreshing too. Glad you enjoy the films overall 🤘
@@blu-rayswithnathanjones I rate Decalog the best thing he did - including the expanded versions ‘love’ and ‘Death’. ‘Blind Chance’ is also worth a look
@@AndyKing1963 Great works indeed. Very brilliant pieces!
Nah, this list is so pretensious, holy shit.
Beauty of the medium
They Might be Giants is charming film, and American Gigolo, the film that made a star out of Richard Gere is great too. I’m sure Gere was thankful when John Travolta dropped out of the project due to the no nudity clause in his contract. I’m sure you will love both films!
It truly was charming! I enjoyed American Gigolo but much prefer They Might Be Giants. Cheers Mark!
Always a fun time hanging out. Thank you for joining in on my channel update livestream too!
@KBLovesMovies always a pleasure, pal! 🤘
SO GLAD YOU ENJOYED DEAD SNOW!
@@TheDiscConnected thank you for handing it to me 🤣
Hi Nathan! I left a comment a few days ago which seems to have disappeared. But I want to make sure to thank you for the very kind shout out and for watching my video. I hope you will decide to post a response, as I would love to hear your thoughts. Take care!
Hey Mike! Sorry to hear it disappeared, I have no idea how TH-cam functions with comments to be honest 😅 Appreciate you asking the question, and I'll be sure to ponder it some more and possibly make a response 🤘
my list is: - Pulp Fiction - Leon - The Crow - Stargate - Wolf - The Shawshank Redemption
@@reneebrissette1492 fantastic list, Renee! Thanks for watching 🤘
I really need to tackle my Twin Peaks boxset! I think you may have spurred me on to open it. I love Shaolin Soccer! it's so much fun. I also have The Promised Land to watch too, it looks very intriguing. Mads Mikklesen is my favourite working actor today.
It's quite the journey. Definitely a mood setter, haha! Shaolin Soccer was a great time, absurdity at its best. Cheers, my friend!
I rewatched CHINATOWN the other night (4K) - a flawless film
I need to get that 4K 👀
@@blu-rayswithnathanjones I wasn't wowed as much as hoped by the 4K disc, I think it's an improvement over the BR but not a massive one (at least viewed on my old and on it's way out TV, so perhaps I'm not the right person to judge picture quality).
I loved TWIN PEAKS Season 3 - so far I've watched it three times. For any TWIN PEAKS fans I'd recommend all three seasons of Lars Von Trier's THE KINGDOM
Oh, I'll have to watch that now that I just finished Twin Peaks 😈
@@blu-rayswithnathanjones I can 100% recommend it (although I prefer seasons 1-2 myself) by season 3 it goes full Lynch (but it's still good). The remastered UK MUBI set is pretty good
talking of the strange have you seen CURE? I watched this last night and really liked it.
@@AndyKing1963 I've not, but I've been wanting to see it so it will get to the queue real quick lol
@@blu-rayswithnathanjones A BITTERSWEET LIFE would make a great double bill
About Twin Peaks Season 3: Laura Dern is Diane, not Denise. Denise would be David Duchovny in Season 2.
@oli61 I certainly misspoke on this. Thanks for the heads up pal 🙏
I don't know how you can stomach watching the entire movie that sucks so bad especially if it is a 1/5 rating from you. I guess it is the problem with being responsible for giving a review, you HAVE to watch it. I have not watched the Island of Dr Moreau. Your rating certainly saves me from wasting my time with it, so even though I don't know how you stomach watching the whole movie, I have a greater appreciation for your moving watching dedication. I agree with the movie Long Shot. I had low expectations, but somehow it worked for me! Still making my way through the Fargo series. On season 3 now and it is still full of big stars, but this one has started off a bit weird. I will have to see how it goes.
@BrianAz haha, it was a good run at it but I always try to look for something positive in what I'm watching. Glad you're here, pal 🤘
That episode of the return of "Twin Peaks" was one of the best for sure. Also the one I remember the most! Now I wanna re-watch the series :) My problems with the return was mainly when a certain character finally shows up in Part 12 without giving too much away.
@@WhatsInAN8me I'm glad that I'm not the only one with episode 8, truly spectacular. And I know what you mean with episode 12 👀
Clickbait titles? No.
@AdrianHayes1950 I slightly disagree. Episode 8 of The Return is considered one of the best episodes of television, so I wanted to showcase that.
Highlight your watches not the hype. Millenials..
Did the job though, you clicked AND commented. What a world
@@FilmBloggerSam Never mind Ade...he's not even at the point to know the difference between a thumbnail and a title!
The friends of Eddie Coyle and the long good friday
Great double rec 🤘
Walkabout and Monster
Oh, great double bill! Thanks for being here, Andy 🤘
Love Paterson and Perfect Days is very good .
Looking forward to jumping into both this weekend 🤘 Thanks Holland!
Brilliant idea & challenge video Nathan 😀🍿🎸🎶 I may do a ‘Response’ video to this 😊 Love ‘Paterson’; amazing film and loved ‘Perfect Days’ on rewatch; great stuff Nathan and look forward to that livestream bud; keep up the awesome work as ever 😀🍿🙌🎸🎶
Thanks pal! Glad you dig the challenge. I'm really looking forward to all this and seeing what the livestream turns out to be 🤘 cheers Sammy G 🤘
I had a moment of inspiration once and came up with an extremely peculiar triple feature of WILD STRAWBERRIES, INCEPTION, and A CHRISTMAS CAROL (any version). All three films center on characters who experience hyperreal dreams that confront them with their core self.
Now that is quite the peculiar pairing 😂 I like the thematic ties quite a bit 🤘
How about the pairing of Blue Valentine and Manchester by the Sea. Let the depression flow!!!!
Oof, that is absolutely depressing 😂 But I love it!
Very cool series idea Nathan! I’m looking forward to following this weekly series. Paterson is so stinking good and I am really looking forward to watching Perfect Days.
Thanks, Jon! I'm really looking forward to trying this out and to see those movies this weekend 🙌
Love these segments.
Thanks, Adam 🤘 Really appreciate that
You get a thumb for liking pulp
Thanks pal! I realize that I'm getting more like that the older I get, with a healthy mix of the classics 🤘
I'm right in the middle of Season 2 of Twin Peaks and then will go into Fire Walk With Me. I think...
Ohhhh, now we're talking 👀 It gets pretty Lynch haha!
I had to mute you for all of that Twin Peaks stuff... I clearly need to check that out. Still watching Fargo for now but TP is next. And as always, I lean on you to talk about all those movies I would never have considered watching. Your reviews make a big difference in my decision consider watching these movies. Thanks for your reviews and scores.
Thank you, my friend. And I understand muting me on that one 😂 I'm glad you're on your Fargo journey, I'm sure it's been a fun one 🤘
Love Fire Walk With Me and Twin Peaks. I had mixed thoughts about the return though. Curious what you think about that season. Kinda sad now though so many has passed away even since doing the return season.
It's been quite the journey so far! And I'm digging The Return honestly, it's weird as all get out but I'm open to it so far. Thanks for being here 🤘
Seeing all of the Noir in the background I want to recommend both of Radiance’s World Noir box sets - all of the films are brilliant
Ohh, I'll have to check that out here in November 😎 Thanks Andy 🤘
Love Lies Bleeding is my favorite movie of the year. So glad to hear you enjoyed it too. I really loved it - the intense romance, the not knowing what the heck was going to happen next, the unexpected fantastical elements. It all 100% worked for me. And I suspect it'll be even better on rewatch. I picked up the Blu-ray from the A24 store and am so happy to own it. Speaking of Kristen Stewart and Kelly Reichert, have you seen Certain Women? And btw, a little correction, Todd Field wrote and directed Tar, not Glazer.
Hey Roni! I'm glad you loved Love Lies Bleeding as well, it's soooo good! And I've still not seen Certain Women 😅 Also, thanks for the correction that one slipped up in my head.
Dude! I'm telling you again that your new film watching journey has really brought you out of your video shell! I think now that you are really indulging yourself with watching so many movies, I can see it in your eyes and hear it in your voice as you explain them with such excitement and passion. So cool! I am enjoying all of your reviews!
Really really appreciate the kind words, my friend! It's been fun to go down this rabbit hole of the films and tv each week. I hope it continues strong 🤘
Hi Nathan, great little A24 update. ‘Zone of Interest’ is an incredible film, which shows how powerful the medium of film can be. ‘Showing Up’ sounds interesting and my type of film… will definitely be checking it out in the future.
Thanks for watching, Stuart! Zone of Interest leveled me, so I couldn't agree more. And Showing Up is quite the treat, so I hope you can check it out soon!
I really want to see Zone of Interest.
It's certainly worth it. Whenever you have the time and headspace, check it out. Thanks, Mike!
Tar?!? I think you might still be in REM sleep 😂
@@steve4films I definitely done messed up 😅
@@blu-rayswithnathanjonesI WISH we only had to wait 2 years between Glazer films.
Havent seen Showing Up. The other two are interesting films like most a24 tend to be. 😂
@@Holland_Oates Showing Up is quite the subtle film, but definitely worth it
i love the A24 collection..i have been trying to at least watch all of the films in it - and then buy the ones i like the most. I wish i could get those special editions from the website! but there are just too many other good films to spend $ on too!! Love lies bleeding is not a movie i have seen yet but its been in my cart at least 6 times!
@suemurray2109 They are quite expensive, so I understand that. Definitely check out Love Lies Bleeding when you can, it's intense in the best way possible
Glazer didn't direct Tar. That was Todd Fields.
Thank you for the heads up, that is definitely on me 😅
Ahhhh, hence last night’s question!!’
Indeed 😎
