Hi
And this is why I feel so unprepared for everything I’m currently learning in college
BUT WHAT HAVE fINS ACHIEVED? --- They have PEACE, for instance. Whereas 30% of Central Europeans are on performance medication. They have honorable politicians and CEOs, which is not the case for any other country. They are ok with being naked since they all grow up with sauna; "we are all the same across generations and even the richest after 10 min's is like the poorest in the sauna", which is a root cause of the above mentioned and THE freakout for every other nation on Earth, besides some tribals, Hi5! (but everybody else is obsessed about sex, porn, prostitution, harassment) Whatever nation you consider contributing to the world, they certainly have like 10x bigger populations and a millenium of fueled war and pr machines. Are there any recent relevant contributions to the world in terms of science, music, acting (who cares about acting WTF?) by Germany, Spain, China, India, France considering their ultra big power and size and stage? Contributions by the USA? Well, their society has 20% people in hunger, 1 in 3 kids has a chronic disease and the country is in constant violence. What achievement is that? None. For half a century! Contributions are limited to not the USA but actually CALIFORNIA, because of a powerful industry doing all the promotion and roasting the people in it, the 99% who fail as well as the "1% achievers". Then, at what COST do those ridiculous iphone contributions come? Sweat shops and waste of headlines, frontpages and LIFETIME for creating PEACE / JOY / ABUNDANCE FOR ALL, which the Fins are good at. And the rest of the world sucks. It is about what WORLDVIEW one has, and your question comes from the obsolete, insufficient, unsustainable worldview which sees only tiny bits and gives them irrelevant value. Finally ... the Fins only began transforming their school system 30 years ago, so, you'll soon see them conquer Hollywood films and Harvard. But as you can tell from their PEACEFUL STUDENTS, they don't have any ambition to do so, because it is irelevant.
There is more to learn about it especially about the PROCESS of QUALIFYING AS TEACHER... only 1 in 10 applicants even get into college training! and they learn 80% pedagogy, and only 20% subjects... only the stuff we teach at school, so that's easy stuff. We already learned it at school." Also, of course, this requires a sane adult population. Sane? Yes, one where the national student council has a veto right on any new law in education. When students fail... it's not them crashing out, "their fault", but the principal asks the teacher "how come the student has difficulty learning that in your class? After all, it's all easy stuff..." So, a population where people 18+ love and respect people 18-. That proves to NOT be the case in 99% of countries. Finland's rules and adults' view "We tend to see the students as our friends, like in a sports club, and our obligation to uplift them as much as possible, since they are the future of our society, the ones shaping my future too." It also means adults trust the young generation not to f#ck them over. See, That's healthy human beings. It's like the Opposite of the American, British, French worldview and practice. What's it like in your country?
Suomi-ilmiö
Guys, choose Finland when u reincarnate.
What awesome teenagers. Really grounded and mature. Love.
dak ngerti aku!!!
I'm moving to Finland
I was educated in Germany, which wasn't bad, either.
In the u.s. teachers are hired by who they know, not what they know. A two year degree from a community college/extended high school, political pull, and a school superintendent that is run by the mayor, council, selectman, etc. the least qualified, with political pull, gets the job. Happens all of the time. 3 years later they have tenure. That is why we are 17th. in the world.
Well now, all 10 of those blonds are 4.0 students, brovo
one of the best country in the world
Okay.. its not EVERY student and EVERY school, its some lucky schools and students that have good teachers. And we definitely do have some teachers who talk alone through the whole class and all we students do is sit, listen and write it down... but I'm gonna have to admit the basic education is really good and has some really good teachers. When we go to lukio (high school) the levels drop immediately.
highly qualified teachers+better curriculum +student interest=education
"PISA most challenging test,,, Finland ranked at top of PISA exam,,, US ranked below average,, " Dear Robert A. Compton, Finns are trying to say that they believe in cooperation, collaboration not in competition. But still you are doing the same thing as americans always do: ranking, grading, who is no.1 who is no.1, the best the best? pff
The whole world do that only finland so stop talking about america at least they have more freedome than your country
Ghkjdf Hbjhffh It's spelled Freedom. And you sound ignorant as hell. All first-world countries basically have the same civil liberties or should I say "freedomes" so you can understand?
Patrick Collins haha really not like the usa
Ghkjdf Hbjhffh Tell me one freedom you have that we in Finland don't.
***** you can sue big companies and win 2 million american dollars that is how free we are and even if you don't win at least you can have a case and have judges listening to you
The US don't want you to think. They want you to be slaves and work in the factory and obey.
bit more complicated
who came here after watching prince ea's recent video?
many people
Not me
America wants to produce laborers not thinkers. The public school system is set up like a factory that manufacturers laborers.
abshir yusuf true
You talk about america go see china hhhhh is the wotst at this shit they are just like machines at least in america they got to do what ever they want the can choose what classes they want to attend which is great cause you get to do what you love and be more creative am not from america but i which we had their education system along with the finland one
Ghkjdf Hbjhffh kids have to go to school. There are truency laws . its against the law not to.
trust and almost no corruption, these good ethics for success, combined with dedication, responsibity, work hard, team work, love their people/childern, for common goal of success. Seem like home/family custom education; I remember when my grandpa teached me to make a clay bowl from mud, I and my brother did not have tests, homeworks, and due date. I have to tried it again and again, did not matter how long that took, untill I made a perfect clay bowl, no grades, no failed. That was a true education, no child and adult left behind. I wish we have that kind of education to day.
so good, brazilian education...help now...
the US needs to adopt this education system.
Also the world
damn right
* Equal opportunities " Equity and quality " all services are free of charge. They have the freedom to frame their decision. All teachers have matter degree. They trust their teachers, Goverment, and their people. They call it huge trust :). They concentrate on their individual way of learning.
*They depend less on testing system. Most students and teachers develop their learning methods.
*They care so much about special education for students who requests much effort.
*Teaching students how to think.
* They have 5 years of study for getting their master after a very important interview and if they pass this interview and pass the entrance application, so they join their research study for preparing them to be a good teachers. 10% of the applicants only are qualified to join master degree to get their chance to be a professional teachers.
1. Family values education. No matter of the student's background. Caring for the brain is the main focus. Relationship between teachers and students.
AAELSHD Amin Yeah!
In the USA 7% of the High School grads don't find the USA on a world map.

This movie grabbed me! I do believe that sooner or later Finnish education will conquer the world! No other way for us!
Please read on Smithsonian.com article about Finland education system, the USA is eons behind. Oh hyva olla Suomalainen.
Smithsonian.com has an article about the education in Finland, please everybody read it, kiitos.
They have a trust based system because they have worked hard to institutionalize and professionalize the teaching profession. Add to the fact also that the position of teacher is a coveted position and is highly well paid. lastly, the Finnish Educational System took 20 years to be entrenched in the country (started in 1973, and used the trust system in 1993). I hope this is not lost in the policy creators.
What I've observed: 1.) Finnish people REALLY care about education, Americans generally don't. 2.) Becoming a teacher is prestigious and very competitive. 3.) Few social issues as a result of a very ethnically/culturally homogeneous population. 4.) Freeform lessons that value critical thinking and "why" and "how" as opposed to just "what." 5.) Finnish people have a relatively high socioeconomic standing. 6.) Less pressure for kids to "perform," more time to simply learn. 7.) School days are short but intensive.
From 7th to 9th grade I never took my backpack home from school. Two years after 9th grade I worked for the town and we had arranged lunch at that school.... they handed the pack to me when me and couple friends decided to check the old place and say hi to the homeroom teacher.
How welcoming are Finns to outsiders (people from other ethnicities) ? Can someone from Finland please answer. thank you
+med roc Prejudice a little, because of the on going "migrant crisis" in Europe, but if you come here with your own money and with good intentions you will be fine. I think people hate mass immigration because that's not the way to go, they don't integrate to the system, because they actually aren't even trying. Honestly we are more openly "racist" or not so politically correct, but it's very safe country to live or visit.
Thank you for responding and thank you for your honesty.
We are same as everywhere, individuals liking or not liking which we see every day as we have people from many countries living here.
www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/11993040/Finland-emerges-as-the-new-sick-man-of-Europe-as-euros-worst-performing-economy.html
Scandanavians have a much better quality of life full-stop, definitely than the UK anyway.
Scandinavian have a much better life quality than the whole world my friend
*How so?, I think it's a case of the grass is always greener on the other side. Finland was once the suicide capital* *of europe. Norway is one of the most expensive places to live on earth... Sweden & Iceland just looks like you* *would die from boredom.. even so, so called "happy countries" always have an undercurrent of fear & darkness all* *of their own...*
Norway is also the most profitable place to live and work... Our salaries in finland are so ridiculous that i dont even want to work.
tuipale As long as your not over 50 years old ( aka youd have shit education)
This documentary is over-emphasizing the teacher education. Of course we have good and well-educated teachers in Finland, but they are not extraordinary or superhuman. The most important difference in education is the finnish way of trusting the teachers and schools, letting them do their job without watching over their shoulder all the time. Actually, there is no equivalent for "accountability" in finnish language, because our society is based on trust. Btw, the average tax rate in Finland is not significantly higher, when you count the american health insurance fees and kids' education. Free education, healthcare, paid maternity leave and children's daycare in Finland are for everyone, not just the poor people. So, everyone actually benefits from the tax € we pay. I haven't heard any americans living in Finland complain about the taxes, or what you get with them.
paanikki . I wish more Americans could see the benefits for having these basic services available for ALL, out of the tax dollars we already pay and not feel like we are all trying to become some type of "socialist" society. when basic needs are met, people tend to be more productive citizens, and isn't that the main goal!
the secret of the english skills is simple: people watch a lot of tv and it's not dubbed but subbed. apart from that finland is in pretty dire straits these days. practically no growth, high unemployment, no one manufactures stuff that people want to buy abroad etc..
yeah that is really Because I live in Finland now I am student so Finland pepoel they are very very good thanks suomelaiset ihmiset mä rakastan kaikki
nice
