    Im wondering how you would do an automated indirect attack using your sheets. This is a wonderful tool btw, especially for newbie players like me and my friend. Keep up the good work

    • @flechs-software
      @flechs-software 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's no specific automations for Indirect fire but there are some work arounds. The easiest way for the attacker is to follow the normal declaration process, then 'bump up' the TN artificially by adding cover mods in the calculator. e.g. if the spotter walked and is also firing and their line of site to the target passes through one woods, the total indirect modi will be +4, and the attacker can add 4 woods in their calculator to mimic the total penalty. Obviously this doesn't work for larger indirect penalties though. In such cases the TN for the attacker's LRMs can be set manually by touching the TN to the right of each LRM inventory entry and selecting the desired TN. In this case you'll need to calculate that TN manually. For the spotter, if they're also firing, the easiest work around is to raise their gunnery skill for the round by one. Alternatively, they could bump their TNs by adding extra cover mods as able. Hope this helps!

    I made the house rule of a "shadow" that blocks the line of sight. As long as you don't stand at the edge everything gets a shadow that prevents sight or gives partial cover. For example a mech stands on LvL2 but not at the edge. The Hex behind the edge gives a cover of LvL2 so a mech isn't seen there. Next hex is still partial cover as the shadow would be LvL1. Third hex is free sight. Other example LvL5. The next hex has a LvL5 shadow, then 4, 3, 2 and finaly at a distance of 5 hexes you see someone with partical cover. Its has proven to be a pretty simple and nicely working system that is simple but offers more gameplay then just counting the hex right beside the mech.

    This is a great way of visualizing los. As in your example sometimes it makes no sense that when you are close to a hill but not adjecent that the attacker still has los. They do have a rule for that in the advanced rules, but to me that one over complicates mathers.

    This is really cool. but why isn't it at least the size of a paper map?

    • @flechs-software
      @flechs-software ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a good question! The short is that I wanted to have 1:1000 scale terrain (where elevations and woods are to scale with the map hexes) and aimed for the best compromise between terrain being comfortably viewable and the board feeling large enough to experiment with different scenarios. I also found while fiddling around in non-square boards it'd occasionally feel like one dimension was too small or too long but a square board felt more comfortably 'sandbox-y'. (A round board would probably be even better but I just didn't just didn't get around to it.)

    • @HotelCharliHill
      @HotelCharliHill ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flechs-software interesting. is 1:1000 the scale of the game? I thought it was 6mm with 1/258th scale "large" mechs representing the machine WITHIN the 30 meter hex. In any case, the viewing and scale looks great, but it would be nice to recreate the paper map packs (either one or two of them) so that you could then know for real if there is LOS, partial cover, trees in the way, etc, regardless of terrain undulations. The paper maps are, 17x26, right? So if you could enable players to recreate those dimensions at least, and maybe even 34x26 or 17x52 for larger maps (maybe even larger?) ALSO, if we could save the files, and even be able to export/import them to share with others, and perhaps even put them on a community database. That would be amazing. I also felt the pinheads were a little too high (although I recognize they're probably appropriate based on mech's actual heights being higher than 2 Levels - 2x6meters'level for 12 meters), but the game revolves around the notion that 2 levels blocks line of sight. It felt like it was too easy to see over trees (and even THROUGH them, as if perhaps they needed to be thickened up to better represent blocking LOS and interfering with targeting/attacking). One other critique is that holding rightmouse to try and get the perspective from the mech "cockpit" (pinhead), the angle is too far downward and up behind the pin head, rather than from the pinhead itself. It would be nice to have more range of motion and the ability to look upwards even more in order to see from low levels UP towards 'mechs' on much higher levels. Not sure how much time you want to invest but if all these factors were incorporated I think people would be willing to invest more. I am annoyed by people who abuse the letter of the rules to nullify the terrain and the cover it SHOULD provide. I was playing a game with a fellow who, because the rules technically say so, said i did not receive partial cover even though I was adjacent to level 1 terrain, because his mech's LOS was (head level) at level 4. But REALLY if it were all drawn out, it's quite likely my legs would be obscured. I actually made a laminated strip a map length long and comprised of 8 levels at 6.35mm each (to properly represent the scale of 12 meter mechs in 30 meter hexes). You set it down beside two mechs determining LOS, draw the terrain in the levels, and then draw lines to determine the impact of trees and terrain. It's awesome and we use this for house rules; 3 pts trees will provide partial cover when blocking waste down, and pts of trees in between impact targeting of the torso. Obviously terrain in the way, regardless of attacker's elevation, provides partial cover when it should, or entirely blocks LOS. I would love to have a 3D virtual system of this, and hope i can somehow implement your FLOSS if some changes are made. Thanks for the app anyway.

    • @flechs-software
      @flechs-software ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HotelCharliHill 1:1000 is the scale of the _maps_. The _figures_ are indeed roughly 1/258 (1/285 to be precise) and do indeed represent the unit’s ‘zone of control’ within a 30 meter hex. I’m afraid the project scope was limited to just being an interactive explanation of the line-of-site rules-as-written and is complete / no longer under development. If you are interested in making and sharing maps with official dimensions you might check out MegaMek’s map making features, which more or less support what you describe plus a wide range of advanced terrain types not shown here. I’m sorry you had a bad experience playing. FWIW, in my experience, confusion around LOS leads to some of the most feel-bad moments. Part of the reason I made the FLOSS was to help players better understand the line of sight rules as written so that all parties could have a better shared understanding of the rules they’re agreeing to play by when they agree to play by the standard rules. At minimum, I’d hope that a visualization like this might make the rules more clear so that players can make an informed decision about whether or not they’d prefer to use the standard or some alternate set of LOS rules _before_ a game starts rather than in the middle of it.

    • @flechs-software
      @flechs-software 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The short answer may be that quad rules effect even basic presentation (max armor/internal) and because the project is focused more on beginner-level players, flushing out solid support for core rules has been a priority. For example, FS couldn't _really_ handle entering water during movement until v6 😬. FWIW, quad support is one of the reasons I’m undertaking a significant rewrite.
