Once a Vamp, Always a Vamp | Didi Plays Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake | Part 1
Hello! *Waves* It's Didi, and today I'm starting another journey in the Dragon Quest series, but this time is the mainline entry. Dragon Quest Builders 2 is on the way but needs more time.
Being a fan of the original NES version of the game, I couldn't wait to play this and see what they changed and what they kept.
In today's part, I start the game, take the personality test for my hero and show off how to get the Vamp personality. After waking up, I see the King and head to Patty to form a team and explore the castle town of Aliahan.
Shoutout to both Gremlin and Steve. You guys are the best!

Hello everybody! *Wave* It's Didi here. With the eve of a new adventure looming, a preview draws near. Here's a preview of something I came across as I use playing. Dragon Quest Builders 2 is similar to the first one but adds much more. Like the first, DBQ2 combines the adventure storytelling of the Dragon Quest games with the building and creating part of Minecraft. Like my playthrough of the ...

      I'll be starting soon. I have a few parts ready to go, but I need to finish a few more before releasing them. I'm also working on a playthrough of the HD-2D Remake of Dragon Quest III, which will probably come out before Builders 2 or alongside it. I'm enjoying watching your playthrough of Builders 2 thus far.

    Correction! I'm still doing two playthroughs, but the one that will be recorded and released on the channel will be on the PS5 (the PS4 version played on the PS5) instead of the PC port. It's easier for me to record it on the PS5 than on the PC.

    It is a good theory. We don't know how many builders have come before. The question is, wouldn't the people around the world not lose faith in the Builder? If the Builder keeps siding with the Dragonlord, they would feel betrayed. Although multiple Builders could have come before and actually listened to Rubiss. They never faced the Dragonlord and the world fell into disarray waiting for a hero to come. Your theorizing after defeating the Dragonlord, I found a bit hard to follow. Especially as you tried to give those dialogues as proves for your theory. It becomes hard, because it is easier to see the dialogues as fourth wall breaking or theorizing of branching timelines. And not so much as prototyping the Builder. But then again that is from perspective. 32:48 That is why I place the blocks underneath my feet, instead of building a stairs. I always have trouble placing blocks as I would slightly turn. This gives unnecessary stress. In addition the 5 layers of blocks underneath you will be destroyed anyways, thus you need to fall and sustain fall damage. Building a stairs is so frustrating. What is worse, is that I didn't learn about tower building until Dragon Quest Builders 2. Thus the first time I faced the Dragonlord, I was screaming to the TV about unfair situations. 34:12 I know you are desperately trying to keep your health up during this phase. It is what I did. But both food items are actually an attack and a defense boost. 37:19 Oh, it would have been so glorious to finish him off with the Bashmobile. Sorry, I just like the Bashmobile a lot. 52:24 No you didn't glitch them. This is normal game behavior. Those were the positions the NPCs were in when you either used the Rainbow drop to move to the Dragonlord's island. Or the position, when you started the boss fight with the Dragonlord. I don't know if the game keeps track of NPC movement when you are not in town. When the fight was over and you returned they were frozen into those positions. 1:02:15 I'm wondering how this rules out that "you" are the fallen hero? Elle is just theorizing, she doesn't know what exactly happened to the fallen hero or how he or she looks like. Then I want to thank you for the LP you did. I enjoyed watching it. When you ever decide to play the second game, I'll probably be there to watch those videos as well.

    It's been a while since I could watch. I'm way to busy with work, figuring out my playthrough for DQB2, and playing videogames like Visions of Mana. Not to mention that at the end of the week the new Zelda game is going to release. Ugh, way too much to do and way too little time. I am going to miss watching you playthrough this game though. The thing that I find mostly strange in the conversation where Rubiss said that she will not protect the builder anymore: She forbids the builder to go up against the Dragonlord, however the current battle asks the builder to protect Tantegel from the Dragonlord's forces. Rubiss has said countless of times that the builder has to protect his/her creations. Thus why the turn of opinion. At this point the builder can still be in dubio about facing the Dragonlord. Although the princess is asking you, which is weird on its own, because this a defend the castle quest. I find the storytelling a little bit too weird in this case. I would have expected this conversation to pop-up once the builder would cross the threshold of Charlock Castle. Then his/her intentions are actually clear. I think your second floor kinda interfered with the battles against the Dragonlord's forces. I only saw a single guard on the battlefield. The rest was probably stuck upstairs trying to figure out the easiest path to get to the battle. Some good advice for a next playthrough, for myself included, is to put a door at the front and some ladders to climb down. I know it looks stupid, but it is practical. 12:47 In Cantlin, Rimuldar and Kol the sky is at least blue and looks sunny.

    It was fun watching you play through Terra Incognita. I learned a lot. Personally I hope Square will decide to bring the PC version to the PS5, Series X or Switch 2 one day, because it is the better version for building. Or they come with a third game. 4:03 Thanks for the shout out. 5:21 I know the feeling. I wanted to show myself building the monster fortress on Terra Incognita, in sped up footage. However I got so swept up in the building, I forgot to check the time and I forgot to push the record button. Thus I forgot to record myself for about 4 hours. Instead of starting over, I just scrapped the idea, being pissed at myself. 22:10 That is pretty amazing. Unfortunately for Kitty though. 25:37 Wait there are chests in those orbs? I never knew about that. Probably, because other areas are far more rich in coal and iron, that I never used this island to mine for those materials. It is still cool to learn about something new. 52:59 That means you are canadian? 54:30 The problem is that enemies keep respawning. The challenge is building what is on the left despite the Droohls attacking you. 1:13:06 Can you put Barbella in the hot water of the public baths. Maybe than she has something special. 1:16:39 That is so much better than what you need to do in the Switch and PS4 version. I still feel the pain of that grind. But then again with the infinite materials, the blank tickets are not of much use. 1:21:17 The titles are plays on words. I didn't know they were based on movies though. I just thought they were based on common terms, such as Major League, Full Metal, All-nighter and such. With Blackened Blooze I thought this was a play on Blackened Blues and when I throw that into google I get a title of book from 2021 or music. 1:36:54 Yes in the PS4 and Switch version battling in the arena is way more lucrative than trying to scavenge it. However you cannot get everything. On the PC it seems more lucrative to go for pixels.

    That is how those character statues work. Can you also have them move, or are they always standing still. I must say I am watching your Terra Incognita videos with a lot of interest. Also because I'm curious about all the changes. 24:06 In case you are still wondering how the dragonbone puzzle works. The dragonbones are a 3x3 grid object. However only a single corner of that is considered to be the skull/tip of the nose. And that corner with the tip of the nose/skull has to be placed on the black spots where the human skulls used to be. You cannot place a wing, tail or rib-cage part of the bones on the black spots. It has to be the skulls. Fun fact: Outside Terra Occidentalis, that puzzle is the easiest to get blank cards on the Switch and PS4 versions. It is the closest to the teleportal and very easily solved. But when you reset the island, there may be less than 4 dragonbones placed on it. Even your first visit doesn't guarantee you to get 4 dragonbones on Terra Borealis. Thus always bring your dragonbones with you on the Switch and PS4. 27:42 I am probably not seeing the logical step with this puzzle. I always do this by trial and error. There doesn't seem to be any logic to it. 37:23 The second game is definitely better. There is nothing wrong with saying that. However there are parts that the first game does better. One of those aspects is that this game incorporates the tower defense gameplay a lot better. In the second game you have those scripted battles where monsters attack, but (un?)fortunately everything is automatically restored after the battle. From a building and story perspective it is good. But from a tower defense it is actually bad. I also don't have a clue what happens when the base integrity drops to low, because enemies are defeated before they manage to break anything. The first game does it better. There are consequences to neglecting your defenses. You have to think about protecting the town with your available resources. And you have Terra Gladiatoria, where you can easily experiment with materials and defenses, because you can build a wall and than summon some enemies to see how easily they breakthrough. The second game no longer has the tower defense gameplay, which I kinda miss. I hope that in the third game (if it ever comes), Square adds another Terra Gladiatoria arena, where you are charged to build a defense with limited or unlimited resources. And then see how it stands in a battle against waves of monsters. That you may or may not be allowed to fight with weapons and/or party members.

    Finally you got some iron. With the Colossal Closet you are so much more free to explore the cardinal islands. I am the same as you. I cannot go into a sandbox game and just start playing around. I need a goal to strive to. This is why I stopped playing Minecraft after 15 minutes. When I did my LP I wanted to show off Terra Incognita, but the only goals I could set for myself is to do the same as what I did in the chapters, and that is to build a town, castle and monster fort. 4:05 I think you walked by buried treasure here. I saw a big arrow pointing at a tree. And maybe you walked even past two treasures here, because there was a similar tree next to it. In total there are 3 seeds of life buried under a tree, 1 can be obtained from a structure, and 2 are in an alcove in the mountains. 22:14 And this is why I don't bring party members in Terra Incognita. The only one I bring is Kitty, because she is a mount and you don't have any problems of leaving her behind. 39:00 I know. Somehow Terra Incognita favors monsters showing up over villagers. That is why I ended up favoring the human NPCs. That way they wouldn't run of, when a new monster would arrive. I hope your seed is more forgiving. 43:32 This is something I found out too late for my LP, but can you make a Breadbasket on the Brick BBQ in the PC version? Because on the Switch and PS4 that recipe is exclusive to a Cookfire in Terra Incognita. I upgraded all my cookfires to Brick BBQs, assuming that I would only get more recipes. I never considered that I could lose one. 47:40 The Falcon Blade is really cool. I might be wrong, but the Ring of Criticality is unlocked by Tantegel chapter challenges. And without that ring, the Falcon Blade is pretty quickly outclassed, by other swords and the Battle Axe. 59:10 Anything of value around there, would be a metal slime. But you might have had to do the quest in that hut once and have the Island reset, before it shows up. 1:08:36 Interesting. It is interesting to see that the island hasn't spawned in yet. Thanks for showing this. But is that a bedrock of coal that you are walking on or is it story locked? 1:13:42 The Holyhock Seed is the only way to get Holyhock flowers in your base. They are nowhere else to be found, that you can dig them up with a shovel. This is your only source. Unless you grow, harvest and turn them in seeds again. 1:20:54 I'm wondering is an infinite supply of "Blank Tickets" also something you can get with pixels? Because if so, that is also one you do want to get. In the Switch and PS4 version Terra Occidentalis (chapter 4) is the best spot for farming blank tickets. You only get a total of 10 before you need to reset the island again and again. Which is actually one of the worst parts of grinding for Fortress Blocks. It is such a hassle. Considering you need level 3 tickets for the better materials, you need at least 3 blank tickets, 1 copper, 1 silver and 1 gold before you can make one such ticket. Fun fact: You can build a fortification on Terra Gladiatoria. The reason why you want to do that, is to put a herbalist cauldron over there. This way you can craft healing items during battle. The only way to lose a tussle is when your HP drops to 0. For the rest it doesn't matter what the monsters do. They can come to the middle, destroy your entire structure, but as long as you don't die you don't lose. However, at one point the battles aren't difficult anymore. Your structure won't disappear either when you leave. Similar to Terra Incognita, you cannot reset Terra Gladiatoria either.

    I think showing of Terra Incognita is a good idea. I had already seen some videos of the PC version but it was only a glimpse of what it has to offer. And the glimpse that I have seen, makes building in Terra Incognita a lot more appealing for free building, that it rivals Dragon Quest Builders 2 Isle of Awakening and Buildertopia. The quality of life features that have been brought over are tremendous. Not only that, but the colours are brighter; during the nights you actually have more visibility; And the draw distance… just look at how visible the cardinal islands are. Even though it tanks the framerate ☹ 13:13 They should have added the dwarfplanets Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Huamea and Makemake as models as well. 15:20 An infinite supply of monster eggs? Oh, I wish I had that when I was building the Monster Fortress in Terra Incognita. Almost every recipe on the forbidden altar to create monstrous items costs monster eggs. And on the PS4 and Switch they are a pain in the ass to get. They are a rare drop by Chimera's, thus grinding for them is a living hell. You are better of collecting the monstrous items from the cardinal islands than trying to build them. If this was on the Switch I would be grinding those pixels like a mad-man and ignore all the other resources. Becausse if you get an infinite of a material that is great. But I saw you can also build monster droppings with pixels and that is awesome. 26:27 It is possible that other humans and monsters join you in Terra Incognita. When you come back to the Banner from Terra Gladiatoria or use a Chimera Wing from one the cardinal islands, then an NPC can be waiting there for you. It is random what you get. You cannot spam it either, because some time has to pass between new visitors. 27:36 Oh, it stops you from getting hungry as well? Thus there is no need to make a Gourmant's Girdle either. In the PS4 and Switch versions you have to make and equip this accessory if you want to stop the hunger. 34:46 Oh, cool they kept that from the Switch version. The one thing that makes the Switch version superior over the PS4 version. Kitty is going to make traversing the islands a lot better. Kitty's strength is also dependent on the sword and hammer you have equipped. 43:43 You can reset the cardinal islands, Terra Australis (south), Orientalis (east), Borealis (north) and Occidentalis (west). However you cannot reset Terra Incognita, the main island. To reset that, you will need to start a new save game. 48:08 If you want to find the arrows, they are much more visible from a birds eye view. In total there are 6 seeds of life hidden on Terra Incognita. 1:05:40 The cave entrances are randomly generated upon each reset of the island. Thus any marked caves become unmarked, as a reset moves the entrance and destroys the torch. 1:12:05 Ah, the curse of every scavenger. It probably was more efficient to focus on collecting iron first. Then you could have gone back to town and build the Colossal Closset. If only to prevent you from returning to town each time your bag is completely filled. And at 2:06:20 you were so close to iron ore, you could smell it and see it on screen. 1:39:25 Wow, that carpet puts the Buildnoculars to shame. With that thing you can reach anything and you don't have to worry about building scafolding. How does it control? And can you go to Terra Occidentalis, without having it unlocked just yet? 1:43:17 That is one disadvantage of Terra Incognita. It doesn't tell you what room recipe you are in, like during the chapters. I wish this was something they fixed for the PC version. When you build a room it will always say "**** has build a room!" However it doesn't say what room recipe you just made. It only says the room recipe when you change the room. My advice is to always build an empty room first and then put in the rest of the furniture. 2:20:41 That is a Blank ticket. On the Forbidden altar you can convert that ticket with some copper, silver or gold into tussle tickets. These tickets allow you to instigate battles in Terra Gladitoria. Defeating monsters here will give you a lot of resources. On the PS4 and Switch version this is the most efficient way to get a lot of Fortress blocks. Otherwise you need to break down those scrawny structures on the cardinal islands and that is a big waste of time. I do hope they let you build the Fortress blocks in the PC version. 2:23:56 HA HA HA HA!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm sorry I just had to laugh here, because I knew this was coming. Each time you go through that portal you kept collecting the same materials you collected the last time you visited the island. And your bag is full each time at the same point, which forces you to go back to town. And that point is so close to iron. If you would just not collect the same materials over and over again. You would have had iron an hour ago. And that is so hilarious. Didi, keep doing you! It is what makes these videos fun to watch. 2:28:54 The thing about the cardinal islands is that they represent one of the chapters. They are a patchwork of all the islands that you visited in that chapter. However there is a specific flow to them. From the point you enter the island through the teleportal, all the way to the end, you will come across the biomes of all the islands from the chapter in the same order as you encountered them in the chapters. Thus if you are looking for a certain resources, try to remember where you got that in the chapters and head for that biome. One advice Terra Orientalis is based on chapter two. That chapter didn't have iron ore.

      After playing Terra Incognita more in-depth, I'm glad I did this in this playthrough. It gave me a break and allowed me to put some time in, seeing that I wasn't ready for the finale yet. I do enjoy the brighter palette during the day, but having brighter nights is something I don't like about this version. I like the dark nights and pulling out a torch to see around. I had to play around with the settings so I wouldn't totally tank the framerate, and after a little bit, I found a happy medium. 13:13 I'm surprised that they had models of the planets to begin with. 15:20 Oh, really? I didn't get into the Forbidden Alter too much to see that you needed many monster eggs to make things. I just figured that if you had An infinite supply of monster eggs, you would never go hungry with the fried egg option. Getting pixels in this version is easy. I had SO MANY of my time in this mode. Well over 30000 or 40000 by the end of adventuring. 26:27 I wondered about this, so thanks for clearing it up. Also, I should admit that I did check your playthrough on Terra Incognita for some info that I couldn't find easily online. This was one of those times. 27:36 Stopping time and not getting hungry is great during those times when I was just building, and I didn't have to worry about going over to the kitchen and getting a snack, so I didn't starve to death. Something I noticed later in my playthrough that is worth mentioning is the text that displays after you stop time. "You lost the sense of time" got me thinking about the whole conversation with Myrlund about the main character waking up in a grave and not having the sense of time or hunger at first. So apparently, in Terra Incognita, you can turn these "senses" on and off. I just found that interesting. 34:46 Kitty is great at first but quickly outclassed by the Carpet. Plus, you don't need Kitty to get pixels in this one, so Kitty gets in the short of the stick in this version. :( 1:05:40 Yeah, I figured that out shortly after I said it. 1:12:05 Yeah, I'm hanging my head in shame. I had a focus, but I was highly distracted by other things. I didn't come back to this area until the last part of my Terra Incognita journey. I forgot about it and realized that I didn't explore Terra Australis fully between the third and fourth parts. 1:39:25 Carpet is good! I'm not 100% sure how it controls, but the way I used it was I held down the "run" button (which is L1 on my PS5 controller) and used the back trigger buttons to ascend or descend. I think that you could use the R1 as well to change the height, but I'm not sure about that. I went to Terra Occidentalis before unlocking it and will leave it for now seeing that I do "explore" it in the second part a little. :D 1:43:17 I found this very annoying. Thanks for the tips on building rooms in this mode. 2:20:41 I get into the whole battling arena thing in the third and fourth parts of my Terra Incognita. There's a funny yet rather embarrassing part in the second part where I couldn't find the place at first. I don't remember seeing any options for building Fortress Blocks, but again, I might have missed it. 2:23:56 I deserve that. During editing, I was shaking my head as well. Only if I had gone the other way. Thanks. It's really a different frame of mind when you're recording. I go to Terra Orientalis in the second part and find Iron on the island.

    Trystian might not be delusional. But does that also apply to the Builder? For example: 1) You can see dead people that no one else can see or hear; 2) You weren't aware of the concepts of time and hunger until someone pointed it out; 3) You were sleeping in a grave; 4) You have dreams of memories not your own; 5) You have a voice in your head, by the name of Rubis; 6) Only you could hear the Fallen Hero shout at you, when you revived the princess and the land; 7) No one has ever seen the Fallen Hero except for you and the voice in your head, who is telling you not to worry. 8) When the Fallen Hero runs away, he walks through a solid wall. 9) You see a strange light that speaks to you. 10) When sending enemies to Tantegel, it is not the Fallen Hero who leads them. Instead it is a facsimile of the Dragonlord If it wasn't for this being a video game, I would have to declare the Builder in my unprofessional opinion "crazy". 😅😇😈 "Maybe delusional due to guilt of not saving Alefgard before???" Just a theory 🤪 35:41 I think I saw an LP once that actually grabbed those evil idols. But they may be story locked until you get back to the castle and reload the area.

    Your castle is starting to look great. Personally, I am not a big fan of making two floors. Basically because of how low the ambient lighting is for inside buildings. It just makes everything so dark. It requires so many candles to make things visible. There was one aspect of the castle that confused me. And that is your storage of chests. When I initially saw it, I though you put up crenelations inside the castle. I was wondering if that was intended as a final defensive position in case enemies would infiltrate the castle. It took me a while to notice that those crenelations were actually chests. I have never made stairs in this fashion. Probably because I'm too rigid and keep the throne room in that place. I made winding stairs in the back corners of the castle. The AI never liked that. They kept being stuck either upstairs or down stairs. How is the AI dealing with your stairs? Do you find Rollo or Elle roaming the second floor in order to get to the Holy Hostel? 9:54 I don't think she is referring to Dragon Quest XI, but to Dragon Quest III. In there you had to find a bit of Orichalcum (in Damdara I think) and bring that to a blacksmith in Kol, who used it to forge the Sword of Kings. You either got the sword from the blacksmith or you would buy it from the store in Kol. 25:55 You are still missing the Shield though. 😋 Either the Silver Shield or the Hero's Shield would do. 🤣 39:47 Now you are still missing the helmet though. 😋 Sorry, I couldn't help myself. 🤣 Although it would have been cool, that when you equip all the legendary regalia that you automatically would wear the helmet. 46:21 Myrlund: "Yes Didi, young Builder. I canst see the ground floor. The ground floor looks astonishing. Alas the floor up above couldest use some work. And didn't thou say'st something about towers. What castle is complete withholding any towers? Didi, dear boy, thou hast still much to accomplish!" (😁😇)

      Thank you. :) Before I started with the candles, the lower floor was pretty dark, so I do get where you're coming from. Looking at another angle, lighting the interior during this time (medieval times) would require a large number of candles to have the proper illumination, so it's kind of realistic. As for my OCD in chest management, I have a chest for each set of items. Example: Blocks in one, decorations in another. Plants, functional items, materials and so forth, each in their own chest. I've been doing this since the first chapter, and I don't really know why other than two reasons: One, I fear filling up my Colossal Coffer because I collect tons and tons of crap when I go out adventuring, and two, I like things neat and in their own place. It's a personal thing I do in real life as well. Minus putting real-life items in the chest around my place. Thought that would be slightly amusing to see. :D I have things good for the final battles in front of the castle. I thought the same thing with the Throne Room, but it always bugged me that the Throne Room was, more or less, on the same floor as everything else. Where in the first Dragon Quest, you clearly go upstairs into the Throne Room. I wanted to mimic that. My Throne Room is right above where the old Throne Room was. Same place, but up a floor. As for the AI, everyone is okay going up the stairs. The Princess, who spent most of her time in the Throne Room, has no problem climbing the stairs. I can only note that most characters like to hug the interior wall as they go up the stairs. 9:54 Yeah, that's what I thought she was referring to, but I was trying to pick apart that "technically" the Sword of Kings was first made in the timeline of Dragon Quest XI, which (I don't think it's stated) but takes place sometime before Dragon Quest III. Unless Dragon Quest III alludes to Dragon Quest XI's story to be only in a book. I thought I was not totally sold on that, seeing that the world of DQXI holds many similarities to DQIII. This Sword of Kings reference is one of them, right down to how you get it. You get the Orichalcum, sell it to the blacksmith, wait a day and then you can buy the Sword of Kings from him for 35000. Curious if it's going to be the same in the new DQIII remake. Probably. 25:55 I personally like the look of the Silver Shield over the Hero's Shield. 😎Out of all the shields in the game, my favourite is the Magic Shield. 39:47 Equipping helmets or other headwear would have been great. The goggles are okay, but I would like to change my character's hair and clothes if possible. I was going to ask what the reference to the Auroral Armour is because, in Dragon Quest I, the Erdrick/Loto/Roto Armour looks different, but I looked it up, and it's in Dragon Quest III. I don't remember an armour suit called Auroral Armour when playing the NES version of Dragon Warrior III until I looked it up again (but the NES armour list this time) and realized it was called the Armor of Radiance. 46:21 LOL 😁 Spoilers. I never get to those towers. 😅

    I found this episode interesting. It is always nice to see people build and share their thought processes on what to do. It's interesting to see you try something and break it down and than put up a revision. I found the little alcove you made for the Tattered Banner, with the plot armor, very cool looking. Now I wish I did something similar for my LP, instead of having a short montage at the beginning of an episode. 1:07:30 In this chapter the green teleportal is replaced by the rainbow drop and the blue teleportal has plot armor. If you want to make a twin teleportarium, you need to build it off base where the blue one is. Otherwise you are stuck with just a teleportarium. 1:09:00 You could have made a Fountain Foyer, which you hadn't in your list yet. It's easy to make by putting a fountain and a bench in the room with the Filter Fountain. 1:33:01 You have been so used to putting everything in the small chests, that you didn't consider the Colossal Coffer? That was interesting. 😅

    Fallout isn't an association I ever made with this game. Maybe it's because I never actually played those games. However it still applies. I do have to ask you though, what are the Vaults in this game. Was it the Princess getting petrified? I do like the voice acting you do for the characters. It gives them so much more of a personality. Keep it up. 8:03 I saw what you tried to do there. Except for anyone who has followed your LP knows, that Kol unfortunately never had a desert. There were some sand patches, but mostly it is barren scorched earth and snow. The ice would have been better as an indication for Galenholm. Another chapter actually did have a desert with some shallow water 😁 10:38 You had it correct the first time. They are called "Rockbombs" 🤓 15:58 Maybe stating the obvious, but in the back you only place the floor and the bottom layer of the wall, because the door is 1 block up from where you stood. In other words, you didn't make the back wall high enough. 23:17 Those scorpions drop spike traps, but it is very, very rare. It is also the only way to get those spike traps. I wish you could make spike traps yourself in this chapter, because that help so much in the defense of the castle. 52:11 If you were to talk to Rolo after he gets dressed and before he gives you the first quest, he will tell you that Rubiss actually asked Pippa to come. But she was too busy in Cantlin managing everything there, that she told Rolo to go in her stead. It's a bit of funny dialog.

    Congratulations. You very skillfully recovered the staff of rain. That quest always bothered me. I tried to do it fast and with as little troubles as possible. But it turned out it showed the high risk side of that strategy and not the high reward. You, on the other hand, did make it look relatively easy. 20:11 That sphere has mostly Boney Ash, which turns into coal when purified with Holy Water. You got some on the island with Tantegel Castle as well. 26:44 I knew that shovels like every other equipment has durability, but I have never managed to break one. You sir, must have been shoveling a lot. 😁 32:00 Oh, Androoo the Delusional. One of the better optional characters in this game. I love how he looks as a guard. His eyes are so sleepy. He just looks so Droopy. It's just funny. 43:58 Oh wow, both chests in the same cave. That is pretty rare. You don't see that happen very often. I was once wondering if the procedural generation of the caves had some additional code that would prevent chests to the be in the same cave during story chapters. I guess it doesn't

    Tantegel Sanctuary, the truest dungeon you can get in this game. Maze-like, with treasures to find and a good challenge of monsters to fight. I do like this part. Although it can be a little rough at some points, due to camera shenanigans. 8:50 I wish this was a jaw-dropping moment for me, but it isn't. That the skeletons with keys don't spawn in is actually a very common glitch. I have had that happen on almost all my playthroughs. Sometimes going through the blue teleportal helps, but most of the time I had to turn off the game. 16:41 Yeah, those Knights hurt a lot. And fighting in close quarters doesn't help either. I always dread having to fight them. While the strongest knight at the end of the dungeon I dread less. Most likely because the final knight is in a spacious room, which makes the fighting easier. And the worst part is you don't even have to fight the knights in these close quarters. The chests are unlocked. And yet, I feel inclined to beat these dudes before I get the chest. 38:45 Yes, you can make the room recipe without the person giving you the blueprint. And yes, you can make the blueprint as they want it to. But no, it doesn't count as you automatically completing the quest. You still need to build the blueprint when the quest is given. 43:45 Wasn't the Princess also not the crown princess? And isn't the King dead at the moment? Which would make the Princess no longer a princess, but a queen instead. I see this mistake made so often in RPGs. The same goes for Legend of Zelda games. In most games the father is dead and she is the ruler of the land. Which would automatically make her a queen. And yet in RPGs they keep insisting on calling them princesses. The title transfers upon death of the previous ruler. The coronation is just a formality. There is one exception, when the new ruler is too young to step up to the task. At which point the closest living relative, capable of the task (most often the mother), is appointed as regent. Considering the King in Dragon Quest I would marry of his daughter she probably is of age. Thus the Princess should be a queen now. But then again medieval times are weird. Sorry, about this rambling. I just had to get it of my chest. 56:31 You don't need to put the food materials in the kitchen chest for the NPCs to work with. That is a mechanic from the second Builders game. In the first game the materials can be in any chest and the NPCs can make food. I am not even certain that the NPCs actually need materials to make food. I sometimes find food in the chest that require materials, that I don't have access to yet. Or food that require materials that aren't even available in the chapter. 1:06:20 You were probably better off leaving the trees there for a bit longer. The knights seem to have an aversion to attacking trees. Would have made a good defensive wall. Ah, well, in the next island you can finally harvest some Fortress blocks with wrecking balls.

      I liked the feel of the Tantegel Sanctuary. It reminds me of a traditional cave or dungeon in the mainline games. However, I agree that the camera can be screwy at times when travelling through it. 8:50 This took me by surprise at first. I was hoping that going back to the teleportal and respawning the area might clear it up, and it did, thank goodness. Square might have patched in the later ports, mobile and PC versions, because I had no problems with this part in the PC port. Hopefully, these glitches are gone because if someone new ran into these glitches, they wouldn't know that something didn't spawn and search around and around for a while with no clue where these keys are. 16:41 These knights are brutal. I never liked fighting them in this game or the DQ1. 38:45 I knew that I was going to build it again, but until this playthrough, I never considered going back to the first book of the chapter, grabbing that Goddess Statue, and using that to make the Holy Hostel early. 43:45 I have similar beef with the whole modern take on traditional royalty. Many Princesses in games and media seem to maintain the title of Princess even though the King or Queen is no longer around. The one I always think of doing this is Zelda, as you mentioned. She remains a princess through and through, even though the King is clearly dead. To think about it, there hasn't been a Queen Zelda in any of the Legend of Zelda games. Another angle to look at is the Disney angle. Princesses are seen as pure and innocent, while many of the Queens in Disney films are evil or depicted as the story's antagonists. I believe Frozen broke that chain, but many Queen characters were looked upon poorly before that. It's a rare case where the Queen is viewed in a good light while the Princess is viewed negatively, other than the "spoiled princess" character type. I didn't mind the little rant you had. I have very similar views on the matter. 56:31 This is another time where I mixed up game mechanics from the second game and thought they were also in the first game. Some habits stick when you play the second game for hours and then return to the first. :P 1:06:20 I thought about leaving the trees there, but I noticed (on other playthroughs) that the monsters moved toward the other walls instead of heading for the main gate. I didn't want to chase them around. Fortress Blocks are so much better.

    The main island is really interesting to explore. If I followed your exploration correctly, there is one more encampment near the last set of caves, that you haven't beaten for the prize yet. Maybe you will in the next episode. I have some catching up to do. 27:54 I was already thinking, that line is so familiar. I just couldn't figure out where I knew it from. At least not until you mentioned the Blues Brothers. 29:19 If that Bloody Hand called another Troll, my jaw would have dropped to the floor. 😵‍💫 29:54 I'm not a 100% certain, but couldn't you just hammer the bones to get them. You do have a sledgehammer now. 39:22 That sometimes happens, due to the procedural generated parts with caves. I even had it happen that such a hole on the outside towards the deep sea, was the only cave entrance to the cave. There was no regular entrance. The game is sometimes weird in creating the world. 41:13 You could restore all the land and it is easy to make a shit-ton of holy water. You need about 8 or 9 stacks for the main island alone. However it is mind numbing work and you will get constantly barraged by enemies. I would know. I did it. My recommendation: just do the area around the castle, because that gives a revived picture at the end of the chapter. 44:46 You cannot get them even with a wreckingball. The blue circles indicate Plot Armour. It is even there in Terra Incognita. I wanted to use those blocks in my New Charlock Castle, but I wasn't allowed.😞 The same with the wicked sand of the final island in the game. 1:17:14 It is so easy to level up the town in this chapter. I don't know if it the castle blocks for the floors and walls that give this much points or that the point barrier is lower anyways. But it is a bit too easy.

    • @didiraspberry

      I do get the missing encampment in the next part. I knew there was another one, but I wasn't sure where it was in this part. 27:54 I wasn't going to share where the quote was from, but I figured, "Why not tell?" seeing it is a movie from the early 80s. Someone might be familiar with the quote, but not where it's from. I personally like it when other TH-camrs share the quotes that they use and reference where they're from. This is another thing that NCS does quite a bit. 29:19 This is strange. Of screen, I waited and waited on several Bloody Hands to call another Troll to their side, but it never happened. This gets me curious about the call rate for Trolls. It must be fairly low, and I just got lucky in the worst way. :| 29:54 I don't think you can get bones from off the ground. Using the sledgehammer destroys them, and shovelling them doesn't do anything. From my knowledge, you only get bones from monster drops. 39:22 This has happened to me more as I have played the game. Currently, in Terra Incognita, the caves are sometimes strange, with holes everywhere. 41:13 I have no plans to revive the whole land, just the area around the castle. Bravo to you for taking your mission to the fullest.

      Commenting, in general, is more than enough. :) I was looking for any kind of feedback from my subs on what to do next instead of just scrolling onto the next project. Most of my projects are lengthy games that would take longer to finish. Splatoon could have been longer if I had edited it into shorter videos, but I just wasn't feeling the shorter run time, and the "worlds" fit perfectly into one complete video, so I went with that. I dread when I eventually tackle Octo Expansion due to how the levels are laid out. Another reason I'm not doing Octo Expansion right away is that I have to come up with a video length that fits with a flow of progression without it feeling short or very edited. Something will come eventually. Side Order is in a similar vein.

    Your role playing part in this LP is enjoyable. I am wondering if you remember how blueprints work in DQB1 and if you haven't mixed them up with DQB2. In DQB2 only the two or three blocks right in front of you have to be empty when laying down a blueprint. In DQB1 the entire bottom layer needs to be empty. Thus when I saw you put down the castle foundation blocks, I am thinking how long will it take until you make a comment that you have to break those wall blocks again.🤭 16:28 Something I learned during may LP was that you have to plant the tree seedlings after you put down the Banner of Hope. If you plant them before that, the seedlings won't grow when the Banner of Hope is planted. I don't know why this happens, but it kinda sucks. 17:27 In the other chapters I would agree that earth is one of the most common things to get. You even get it by simply clearing out the town. However in this chapter you first have to turn ash into earth, thus it is not as common as one might think. Ash is the common thing in this chapter. Although with enough holy water turning ash into earth isn't a big deal.🤓 24:50 WTF!!!!!!!!! Trolls can be summoned over there? I thought trolls roaming around the land was for the third island!!!!! Was this a glitch or something? BUT WTF!!! 😲😵‍💫 28:53 You can go back to Myrlund to still your hunger. That lasts until you plant the Banner of Hope. You can also ask the Princess to heal your wounds. However with Myrlund you have "to pucker your lips" and ingest what is coming out of his mouth.🤢 Thus you can, but with what it means, you don't want to.

    • @didiraspberry
      @didiraspberry 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was wondering the same thing. I believe that I sometimes mix the mechanics from the second game into this one. 16:28 I remember going through something very similar during one of my playthroughs. I planted trees before I got the Banner of Hope and wondered why they weren't growing after I got the Banner until I replanted them, and they started to grow again. 17:27 This is true. I didn't think that the land is made primarily of ash in this chapter, thus the most common block. It didn't occur to me then that I should smash some of those earthblocks once I purified them. 24:50 Surprised the hell out of me as well. I knew that the Goopi (Or Bloody Hands) called for backup, but I thought they just called other Bloody Hands to their side. Nope. :O I remember one of the Hand enemies in DQ3 (I believe) could summon Stone Titans, so maybe that could be a reference there. I tried having them summon a Troll again and couldn't, so perhaps it's a rare summon or, quite possibly, a glitch of some sort. 28:53 I wasn't sure if you could go back to Myrlund to fill your hunger, and frankly, the thought of it grossed me out too much to check.

    The final chapter, where the nights are so dark it ain't even funny anymore. I'm looking forward to the type castle you will be building. Have fun and good luck speaking the old english, that Dragon Quest 1 uses for its text. 😁 17:57 When the Princess is no longer petrified and not in Tantegel Castle yet, she can full heal you as well by talking to her. Unfortunately you cannot bring her along in your pocket when questing 😜 Just put her in an empty bottle 😂 36:04 That dragon probably is so weak, because it has been starving out in these lands. Or a lack of training because no one came to challenge him.🤔 All in all he was made to be beaten by a cypress stick. Probably the weakest dragon in the entire game. Interestingly though there is a single skeleton on the floor between the dragon and the door. Most likely his last victim and the original owner of the altar. 46:03 The dream doesn't show up until you get the blue teleportal. It was the same with the previous chapters. When you get the Blue and Red teleportals you would get a dream sequence once you go to bed.😴 56:05 I really find it interesting that only you hear that voice. And later in the chapter only you see and confront the body that goes with the voice. No other NPC, besides Rubiss sees or hears it. As if it all takes place inside your head and nothing more. Secondly, you have dreams that are memories not your own?!? The conspiracy thickens on you being the hero that failed.🤔

      I'm currently remodelling the castle into something else-nothing too different, but something along the same lines as what was originally there. Something I noticed in this chapter is that there are not a lot of flair decoration options. There are some, but the options are rather limited in this chapter. Ugh. The Old English is killing me. :( Reading isn't bad, but trying to speak it with different voices... A tall order indeed. I am glad that not all the chapter's characters speak this way. :) 17:57 That would be great, Princess, in a bottle that heals you at any time. Sounds like a grand idea. :D 36:04 I figure that the Dragon would eventually start eating its own companions, the other skeletons in the maze. Perhaps there were other skeletons on guard in the maze at some point, but the Dragon got hungry and started to eat them, leaving only one behind. It's just a theory, though. 46:03 I was wondering about the previous chapter and if I triggered all the dreams in that chapter. I don't usually go to sleep that often when playing, so I keep forgetting that there are dream sequences that can happen. That's why I'm surprised for the most part when the dreams happen because I forget that dreams are a thing that could happen. 56:05 It is strange that I can only hear that voice, and no one else can. Hmmmmm.

    Another chapter comes to an end. I really liked these muscle men. I don't know they had some charisma. I thought they were funny. Something interesting thing that I just realized is that the Firn Fiend and the Magmalice probably didn't get along either. It took getting the Bashmobile to the face for the both of them to actually join their strengths. Just consider the waves of fights before. It was always just Kol's monsters or Galenholm's monster. They never mixed the groupings. Even in the third battle before the boss fight the first wave was Kol and the second is Galenholm. 3:32 It is the smaller of the three, thus that is Burley 🤔 I think. 10:52 Damn Cecille is trooper. She taking the Gigantes on her own. I don't know what it is, but I often see her still standing and fighting, while all the others are already down. Maybe she has more health or she draws less aggro. 12:24 I think the point is, that you help the fallen by bringing them to a bed to heal. However that is so time consuming and with some monsters having a reach that it isn't practical to bring those guys to a bed one at a time. You are also open for an attack when carrying someone. Thus usually you end up fighting alone and doing the dance. 13:57 I don't think it effects the Bashmobile. It always does around a 100 points of damage. I think it has a set amount of strength, which is unaffected by any stat boosts. But I could be wrong. I never actually noticed a change myself. 21:19 The fight against the Magmalice and the Firn Fiend. This is my personal favorite boss battle in the game. I really like the Bashmobile. And I personally find it easy to control. There are just a few things to remember when fighting this boss. When you are on the red or blue areas run, don't fight. Get to the grey areas, those are safe. It depends on the phase of the fight which colored area is dangerous, but the grey one is always save. Deal with minions heading for or chasing you. You are actually very vulnerable and stationary during the start up, as it is to offset the Bashmobile's awesome invulnerability during bashing. Finally, when you miss a target and Bash right by it. Don't try to make awkward U-turns, just take another lap around the area. U-turns will make you drop in the lava below. 24:10 I have heard people say that it is tank controls, but it isn't. It seems like it, because after hitting an enemy with a bash you are forced to be stationary, but you can still turn. In fact the controls are the same as walking with the builder. You point the left stick in the direction you want to go and the car turns towards that direction. The difference is that the Builder almost turns immediately with just a few frames of turning animation, while the Bashmobile takes it sweet ass time to turn. In addition the forward speed of the car is much faster which means it gets a larger turn radius and you are faster to hit objects of camera. When using the car I have two means of controlling it, depending on the situation: 1) The first is when I am in a group of enemies and I bash from one enemy to the other. I keep the camera stationary and I point the left stick in the direction of the enemy I want to hit. It is pretty much the same as when fighting with the builder. You don't need to make part of a circle with the left stick in order to turn the car towards the right direction. The game will do this for you. 2) The second when you are freely driving. I consider the Bashmobile like a Remote Controlled car. I use the left control stick to go forward or backward and the right control stick to turn left and right. When you tilt the left control stick up, you tell the car to always drive in the direction the camera is facing. If you then turn the camera with the right control stick, the car will also turn in the direction the camera is facing. This way you can turn the car and still see where you are going. 31:00 Damn, you put a wooden window at blaze. Are you trying to burn down the town 🤣🚒 46:39 Yes, that is a Dragon Quest 3 reference. You would find Orichalcum in Damdara (I think) and you would bring it to a blacksmith in Kol, that would forge the Sword of Kings from it.

    The spectacular spa in that corner doesn't look bad. A bit unfortunate about the window, but that was easily fixed. And I love the Bashmobile. It is so easy to drive. Just consider it a RC car. Use the left stick to accelerate forward and the right stick to turn. If you only use the left stick, you have to remember that the Bashmobile controls exactly the same as when you walk. The difference is that when you turn in a different direction, with walking the turning is almost instantly. With the Bashmobile it is about 20 times slower. That is why it looks as the Bashmobile has such a large turn radius. 11:57 WHAT THE HECK is Glutimus doing? 😱 That poor tree. It took 3 days to grow.😲 20:45 Yes you could use cannons, but you probably would also leave a big hole in the bridge. That is how I initially found the scandalous swimsuit. It was hard getting around the hole. 29:13 You actually did get hit, because there were the red numbers and there was a stun animation. The bigger question is why didn't you get send flying backwards. Maybe it was the angle of the sword compared to your position, or did the boys form a barrier. 52:24 You cannot bash into the same enemy twice consecutively. You either bash into another enemy or you have to drive around first. When enemies are this close to one another your best bet is to bash from one enemy to another. You have more than enough time to do a 180 turn and still be invincible.

    Time to go back to the 80's and go 8-bit I guess. I just remembered something funny about those blue blocks. They are highly inconsistent. Their description says they are made from chalk (I think), however you build them from Ice and Power Crystals. 3:04 I guess sometimes you do say her name correct 😁 26:50 Oh wow, I never knew about that. I always thought those basalt blocks ran all the way down to bedrock. But you can actually dig into the dungeon is actually cool. 😲 I did know that you could go the dungeon backwards and skip all the mecha fights. Now I am wondering whether the chest is unlocked before you solve the puzzle as well. 🧐 Otherwise, you would still need to solve the puzzle. 43:47 "A boyband from the 90's with only four members" The only ones I can think of are Boyz II Men and 98 degrees. I had to Google that to be sure. I was more into the Girl Bands and Eurobeat duo's at the time. 48:12 You have an interesting idea. Trapping him in place is a fantastic idea. And using the Fortress Blocks are something the Gigantes can't destroy. However your construction has a major flaw. Your own cannons will destroy the blocks that are holding back the Gigantes. He will eventually reach you. Even if the shot itself doesn't hit the blocks, the area of effect of the explosion will.😱 This is why I never incorporate cannons in my walls to defend the town. A shot at Point Blank range will destroy the wall. 51:03 However as long as you are happy with the results it still worked 😋 It still seems the Bashmobile is the best way to deal with these guys. 1:00:30 The flowing dress in Dragon Quest Builders 2 is kinda pointless, because you can get equipment with the same effect as the flowing dress and better defense, before you went to the place with all the lava. 🤓 1:03:40 I thought you had a proper initial idea. I thought you were going to build a pincer that would hold the gigantes at the arm or shoulder points. And then you would send that cannon right through the middle, where the gap is and the explosion might not break any blocks. But then you filled up the gap. Eventually and unintentionally you still got to such a construction 😂 I think If you build a wall 2 high out of Fortress blocks and put the cannons some distance away that you can shoot over the wall and not hit it, that would have the same effect.

    Glutimus is kind of a creep. The way he fauns over her is rather stalkish behavior. He probably found the string underneath Barbella's pillow when he was sniffing it. The little creep. Or he is going through her stuff, which still makes him a little creep. 😋 7:53 You can never get the quest giver on the team. There is a separate set of dialogue for a resident to join your team. However the quest giver also has to have dialogue to remind you about the quest that he/she wants to have completed. These two sets of dialogue clash with one another and for the benefit of the game the reminder dialogue comes out on top. The developers probably could have programmed in something that you could still recruit him. However it probably is a mathematical nightmare, which would not benefit the game. 14:57 The spectacular spa blueprint is always in that general vicinity. It is always in a cave behind the Fortress gate on the fourth island. However which cave and where in the cave is random for each play-through. Thus if you remember it getting somewhere else, you are most likely correct. It probably was a different cave in that area and the cave most likely looked different that time to. 34:09 Can you use the Lyre of Ire? Are you mad??? You do remember that using the lyre out in the field would call monsters in Dragon Quest 1. Surely you aren't that desperate for a fight to call a swarm of monsters on yourself in this game. 🤣 34:19 Phew, you did remember 🤭 Yeah, that would be funny as heck though. 40:22 Depending on whether you want to leave the blue blocks behind, like I always do, than you would need 30 blue blocks in total. You need 15 for the mandatory place on the 4th island and 15 for the optional chapter challenge on the 3rd island.

    This castle town actually looks really cool. Better than mine was. Mine was way to minimal. I'm currently facepalming and wondering, why I didn't put more effort into it. 18:00 Interesting that the Gigantes gets sad that she couldn't destroy fortress blocks and you could. However none of the Gigantes can destroy fortress blocks. Making puny human stronger then all Gigantes. However I am getting hungry for pancakes now. 🤤 33:52 Unfortunately the Timbered Wall blocks are exclusive to Terra Incognita. It's kinda sad, because I was really hoping the chapter would have you plant 2 banners and you could rebuild Galenholm as well. The chapter is called "Kohl & Gallenholm" after all and just "Kohl". End for the Boss fight you would need to defend both towns so how. Alas it ain't is what I hoped for. But it is understandable, because in Dragon Quest 3 this was not a town, but a single house: Galen's home. 35:41 I never knew about those bronze temple tiles. I knew about the dungeon in Dragon Quest 1, however I never knew that they made a reference to it in this game. Then again I never bothered to look what was under the snow, because it came back so fast. Thank you for teaching me something I didn't know yet. 44:20 I think they were called Gargoyles. But I could be wrong. 46:20 That was Maxi. Glutimus is the one with the darker skin. Maxi and Burly both have lighter skin. Burly is significantly smaller than Glutimus, Maxi and the Builder. That are the primary means how you can separate the three. 1:04:25 Yes, you read volume III in Kohl, but this is Galenholm. A new town and thus a new volume. Also there are 6 volumes in total throughout the chapters. 1:17:00 Fun fact, the scandalous swimsuit is what your residents will wear when they are under the effect of the naughty night light. Now you can join them 🤭 The swimsuit was first in Dragon Quest 2, but was also used in Dragon Quest 3 and 11. Although there you also had bikini's that would actually give you defense. The best thing about them, was that they changed the character's sprite. Well the best thing for perverts I guess.

      Thank you. :) But I have to admit that I was slightly influenced by your build in this chapter. With my previous town build, I didn't like it and wanted to redo it in some way, but I didn't know what I wanted to do. So I took your minimal approach, put my own spin on it, and jammed as many rooms as possible. I couldn't fit an inn in this build, so my town folks had terrible HP and died quickly in the upcoming fights. (Spoilers) This town was the first time I felt confined in the given building area. I use those Fortress blocks against the other Gigantes in the area with interesting results, and that's all I will say for now. :D But I have to thank you for making me aware of the power of Fortress Blocks. They really did come in handy through the chapter. :) There's a funny story about how I found this. Well, I remember you saying something about restoring Galeholm in this chapter as one of my personal "challenges" that I do, so I wanted to test if I could. During this test, I wanted the town area to have no snow accumulation, so I had to make a floating floor high above Galeholm, covering the whole town. I discovered that one corner with the Bronze Tiles about halfway through while I was building the floating floor. I looked at the birds-eye view of the area and noticed that it was behind the northern building in Galeholm, and that's where the stairs went down the dungeon area to get the Silver Harp in DQ1. I was dedicated to making the town very precise to the original one, I tunneled under the heading over to the Green Teleportal to get water so the back area had a river like the original map had. There's a CRAP LOAD of minerals under the ground spanning from the Green Teleportal to Galeholm. So, if you ever need lots of minerals, mine here. After I realized that I couldn't get the proper tiles to fix up the buildings, I scrapped it and reloaded my previous save. I didn't make any recordings of this; I just wanted to see if I could do it or not. Yeah, it's Gargoyles. I wasn't sure what they were called during the recording. I just remember the first variation of them, Hawk Man. Wow, while I look at them side by side now, I can see that Burley is smaller than Maxi. I never caught that before you mentioned it. Talking about Burley, I don't know why I gravitated toward Burley instead of any other of the boys. Maybe it's his name; I like saying "Burley." :D I was more taken back that I discovered it this quickly. I thought I remembered reading this volume in another place from my past playthrough. I didn't remember being in Galeleo's Tower. Do the volumes change their locations along with the worlds with each playthrough, or was I just not paying attention in the past? I did put a Naughty Night Light in Cecille's room, but I didn't see her in the swimwear. Maybe I didn't trigger the effects somehow. I knew it was in DQ2. I remember seeing it once and only once. As for DQ3, I remember it well, but I forgot about the Magic Bikini, which is good armour in the late game. As for DQXI, yeah, I remember seeing Jade in that outfit and wasn't really impressed by it. She has so many more interesting outfits that were striking other than having her in silly swimwear.

      @@didiraspberry The books are always in the same place. Volume V will be on the first island in chapter four near the filter fountain. Volume VI will be in Tantegel Castle itself, next to the workstation. There are a number of things that are randomized each playthrough, such as mountains and the ground. However locations important to the story and chapter challenges, have little to no randomization. The small dungeons will always have the same layout. The same with the world at large. Everything is always in the same direct vicinity. I have noticed that the Naughty Night Light doesn't always work. Maybe it's because it isn't considered the main light source in the room. You could try and remove all other light sources. The first time I saw the Naughty Night Light work was in Chapter 1. I placed it in the Hammerhood Hothouse garden room. And Rolo was the first to go down to his skivvies. That is an image that is now permanently burned on my retina's.

    Ah poor Baird, you rather have a private room unused, than give him one 😂. During this chapter I build my town wall outside the town limits, because I wanted them gone for the boss fight. The boss and his minions completely focus their attacks on you. The boss himself may have an attack that can do damage to your town, but it is always focused on you. The boss's minions cannot destroy a single block and they also won't go into the town area as long as you are not in there. I might be wrong, but they don't go into town period. The only time your town is in danger, is when you are inside it. That is why I try to build my rooms as disconnected as possible and I want my town wall gone during the boss fight. During this fight I want to be on the Boss's turf as fast as possible with as little obstructions as possible. That means the wall has to go. Now during the chapter you the wall to be there, because those enemies will destroy your town if they get the chance to. And having the wall a little bit out of the town limits, kinda reduces the damage the monsters with a longer reach can inflict, such as Trolls and Giganteses. But not to far outside the town limits, because then monsters can spawn inside or on top of the wall. I just noticed. The Hela's Hammer Sign is actually a ridiculous, because you need an Armourer's Sign. That sign is made out of iron and dye. You infuse the Armourer's Sign with a Magic ingot to get the Hela's Hammer Sign. But the description says that the Hela's Hammer Sign is actually a wooden carving. That just doesn't make any sense at all. 26:10 That lava area is what the designers expected you to get the tracks from to fix the roller-coaster in the hot-spring. The one you got the Roller-Kohlster blueprint from. 34:36 The reason you couldn't hurt the metal slime is because they are immune to magic. Magic, and by extension magic weapons, have no effect on metal slimes. The Hela Hammer and Aurora Blade are magic weapons and cannot hurt them. You are better of equipping a iron broadsword. Heck even a cypress stick is better for facing metal slimes. 55:30 Yes, you were hurting him. You were just too far away to see his health bar or the damage points. 1:32:05 Interesting how Maxi and Cecile stayed up stairs for the fight. (Well, Cecile came in late) I don't think the AI is capable of finding a path down. One more reason, why I never build two stories high. The second floor messes with the AI's path finding way too much. But that is also something I noticed with the other fights.

  • @zaeranos
    @zaeranos 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In all honesty I was half expecting you to level one of those forts when you headed out on the first island. With the Hela's Hammer you can now collect those blocks. And Fortress Blocks are the best defensive blocks in the entire game, over all the chapters. There is no enemy (besides scripted) that can break through those blocks. Yeah, the problem with the Flamy Boys is that you want to kill them before the others return to the battlefield. The game has a small invincibility window when an enemy gets hit. This prevents that enemies get combo'ed to fast when surrounded by villagers. Any consecutive hits don't even register during that period. Your residents kept hitting the Flamy Boys and because they don't have magical weapons yet, they cannot harm the Flamy Boys. However the invincibility window was triggered every single time. Not to mention projectile weapons are hard to aim as well. This combination makes it difficult defeat these guys. It is one flaw in this chapter. If you could at least make a magical sword already, this would not be such a problem. 32:36 It's his pathing algorithm. It sees that he can jump up one block and one more block and that is a straight line to his target. The door is considered to be the long way around. The pathing doesn't consider the combination of blocks it gets confronted with. It is a similar AI as enemies. If you dropped the pressure plates and pushers one level and put wall blocks over it. The trap still functions, but the pathing doesn't see it as a viable path to get inside the base again.

    • @didiraspberry
      @didiraspberry 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did that between this part and the next one. I didn't know until this playthrough that the Fortress Blocks are OP as hell! I believe your playthrough introduced me to their power. Before that, I thought the blocks were variations of the castle block, including their durability. I didn't notice that once the Flamy Boys started their animation, they had I-frames that couldn't be damaged during that time. That's annoying. The battle AI for the boys isn't that great either during this fight. I can see it now; I just got frustrated with how it kept happening repeatedly. I don't use the pushers too often. I can see their use, but 9 times out of 10 times, they don't work the way I want to, so I don't use them. Maybe someday, I'll experiment with them more and find something that works for me. :/

  • @zaeranos

    One thing that is really great about this chapter is how both areas are the polar opposites. When you get to Galenholm you get a complete new set of enemies to fight. Kol has Trolls, Knights, Dancing Flames, Muddy Hands, Legerdemans, Scorpions and Hamerhoods, while Galenholm has Gigantes, Machines, Frost Burns, Drackyma, Hawkmen, Gargoyles, Powie Yowies and Drackies. Only slimes and scare hares are in both regions. And I am probably forgetting some. The grey ones are called Hunter Mechs and the blue ones are called Killing Machines. And yes they do a ton of damage. This is why you need the magic armour. 😋 It is also why I was wondering in the previous chapter why you put all your healing items in a chest, instead of the colossal coffer. You don't have access to them from the field when they are in a chest. The same goes for food. 7:09 You are near the top of the mountains. The Red Teleportal is actually high up. In addition the mountains look high, but that is because they are steep and difficult to climb. The current English localization for them is Hocus Chimera's. Kol still has the regular Chimera enemy. 16:30 I have to admit. Kudos with those cannons. When I saw you build it I was thinking: "Who are you trying to hit with those cannons that high up? I think you may misjudge where the enemy spawns." However I was proven wrong. Well done sir! Well done. 1:01:10 The reason why Mythrill didn't unlock anything, is because it is unlocked by the story. Also in Dragon Quest Builders 1 you had to find all the materials first before a recipe becomes available. Unless it is important for the story, then it becomes available when you get the key material. In this case, that material is locked behind story progress. 1:05:09 The top of the mountain had reached maximum build height. The game doesn't allow blocks to be placed above it. And the cannon is 2 blocks high. Thus you had to drop 2 blocks as not to exceed the game's limits. 1:16:46 You spoke Cecille's name correctly this time. 😅 Cecille and Baird are a real fantastic pair though. Oh, how oblivious Baird is, is just wonderful. And with Cecille completely ignoring him. You just want to watch him stumble through life.😇

    • @didiraspberry
      @didiraspberry 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, one area is really hot, and the other area is really cold. This doesn't make sense to me, seeing that both regions in the original Dragon Quest were in the northern part of the map. I guess with the land splitting up into islands, Kol got the hot foot while Galeholm got the frozen over. I know the names of them unless I'm having a brain fart day. :P I get mixed up on which one is which. I have never played Dragon Quest II too much, where they were originally from. I didn't think I started that high up the mountain. I remember the basic localization of the early Dragon Warrior games for the NES and how Chimaera were called Wyverns instead. Cosmic Chimaera were Starwyverns, and Hocus Chimaeras were Magiwyverns. I'm really glad now that the real names have been universally adopted across the versions. Thank you! :) This fight wrecked me in the past... every... single... time. So, this time, I wanted to wreck them instead. :D Also, it didn't help that I came to recuse Cecille alone in past playthroughs without the boys' help. Damn you, story progression! *Shakes fist* Ugh. Limitations. Baird is quite a character. Throughout the chapter, I talk to him a bit more than I usually would, seeing how he is still delusional towards Cecille and finds it "rather difficult" to be around the boys, let alone talk to them. He's somewhat forgettable, but not at the same time, if that makes any sense.

    With every Let's Play the battles against the Trolls and Gigantes are always rather amusing. Everyone (including myself) has problems with them and it is just amusing to watch. Less so to play. 😒 And even the strongest material you can make your wall out of at this moment doesn't stand a chance. The double barreled Bombard is too destructive. I never use the cannons along the walls to protect my town. It takes to long to reload. Most of the time the monsters are right at point blank range when I can fire again. Which means the explosion will hurt the monsters and it destroys the wall. The purple area probably served as a bunker, while new weapons were tested in the field. They could duck in case something would go boom and only have the top of their horns burnt. You can always see how deep bedrock is at the beginning of a chapter. Just look at where the water level is from the ground level of the town. From the water level it is always two blocks down when you will hit bedrock. Only Cantlin is high enough to build underneath. Isn't having a button with a single cannon a little bit pointless. The button is there to make two cannons fire at the same time, instead of one after another. Thus a single blast getting in more damage. However on a single canon you also have the prompt "use". Knights Aberant can destroy stone wall. That is why you have the barricades. Or by using the cannons you could mine for Obsidian underneath the mountains. However Obsidian is no match for Trolls and Gigantes. For those guys you need Fortress Blocks. 1:03:45 Huh? His name is what? Is his name Baird or Benard? 🤣 This is why I love watching LPs of games without voice acting. Everyone has their own pronunciation of names and words. I love it. 😁

      The Trolls and Gigantes have given me tons of trouble in the past, but during this playthrough, I've tried different "creative" methods to dispatch them with mixed results in some of the later fights. One option is to wait until you get the Bashmobile and take them out that way. It's slightly more manageable, but I didn't want to wait that long. Cannons, in general, are just not worth it to defend the base. I can see where the developers are going with them, but in reality, they make more of a mess of the land around them than anything. Hmm. I never thought about that, but it makes sense. That sucks. I like how you can make a lower part of the town in the first chapter. I wanted to make a basement for the castle in chapter 4 but couldn't. It just makes sense, seeing how, in Dragon Quest 1, you find the Sunstone in the castle's basement. Boo on no basements. I wanted to make a dungeon as well. :( Yep! It's Benard! :D I've already concluded long ago that I'm terrible at sounding out names, so I wing it in any game without the name being spoken out loud. :D

    There is a bit of randomization when it comes to generating the world. Even though most of the major aspects are always the same, such as where the mountains are, forts and other memorable landmarks and the places for sidequests. However the details can be randomized. I usually get around 6 stumps, but it is possible to only get 4. And sometimes a hill is missing, where you thought there is one. Although the place you pointed out, I have never seen an actual hill. Sometimes a 2 or 3 block incline, but that is it. 3:55 You do know you are talking about Glutimus. Whose single brain-cell is only attuned to bodybuilding or bathing. 39:00 That is why I didn't decide to show that we cannot hurt the dancing flames at this moment. Just let the dancing flames dance around town. They cannot destroy anything at all. And having them just roam instead of targeting me, makes the battle so much easier. 59:20 It was surprising that you went back to base in the morning, because a few meters away there was a single Knight guarding a chest with wood.

      One thing I noticed with repeat playthroughs is that caves and some items are in the same area where I remember them being but might have moved slightly down the mountain. One notable cave and item I can remember changing location is in Chapter 1. The cave where you have to finish burying the body and add the grave to it to get the Talaria Shoes. I had a hell of a time trying to find this cave during my second and third runs. I was shocked during this playthrough that I found it so quickly... then forgot that I found it, only to watch back my footage to remember where it is again. :P Yeah... but I thought I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and then I realized who I was talking to. I know that I can't hurt the flames at this time. I didn't want everyone to go after them, but I guess I got too close to them and set the boys' targeting sensors to go after them. It was a bit of a mess, but I still got through it. Yeah, I forgot about the treasure in those small fortresses, and one of them had wood. I eventually found out when I saw it; I just shook my head. :P Though if I did get the wood from the chest,then I wouldn't have had the great moment when I finally got wood the way I did.

    I enjoy this chapter. The boys are really funny. Between Burley and Glutimus they probably share a single brain cell. I just love these guys. It is also interesting that the Kol public baths function as the dressing room for this chapter. Which is a lot earlier than the ones you got in chapter 1 and 2. Although for the boys they have more cloths on with their rags, then after. XD When you want to catch food. If you go east from Kol instead of west, you will get a better catch rate. The west is more or less why I don't rely on fishing to get my food in this chapter. I just rush forward to get Burley first. He gets you the cactus stake recipe. I really hate those crumbly blocks as well. They are useless and so annoying. You cannot even use them to build a trap to trap monsters in. In Dragon Quest Builders 2, they are at least useful for building floating furniture in the air and water. But in DQB1 they just suck. Not to mention when one of the boys get stuck in them and you have to find him again. Because when you separate to far they will not come with you when using a Chimera Wing. I'm sorry to say this, but in every chaspter you need to get the blue teleportal and access to the second island before you can make a Colossal Coffer. Fun Fact: Glutimus is actually a very delicate cyborg and he has sensors throughout his entire body ;'p

      Yeah, one thing that I noticed this time when I was editing this is that the boys had more clothes on before changing than afterwards. I never tried other bodies of water besides the one I went to in the part. I always seem to go there each time I play this and get mixed results. The east side, eh? I'll give it a try. I know that Cactus Stake is one of the best in the chapter for food. I still try to fish beforehand, so the time crunch isn't that bad. Crumb blocks suck. Period. Manging items before getting the Coffer is just a pain. I guess I don't have to pick up everything along the way to cut down the load on my inventory during this time. But I can't help it! Oh, wow! You actually did that. You cleaned up the poison and gave Rimuldar a clean water lake. It is a bit to bad you didn't film the process, because I would have loved to study why breaking certain blocks makes the poison water return. Maybe I should go back and investigate. Maybe turn all the poison into water as well and see if their are poison generator blocks, just like water crystals. Or maybe it was just bits of poison water trapped underneath some other blocks. I don't think that pure water can be turned into anything else when it comes into contact with other blocks. This isn't DQB2 after all. DQB1 is rather weird when it comes to liquids. I know that pure water has no reaction with lava when it comes into contact. I think earth blocks are the only things that change when it comes into contact with liquids. Oh before, I forget. Thanks for the shout out. I really appreciate it. I got a lot of inspiration from the playthroughs of TH-camrs "Naka Teleeli", "NintendoCaprisun" and "BenXC". I learned a lot from them. Eidt: I also thought your second fight with the Condor would go bad, because the Ballista's weren't aligned with the highest block in the town. In my previous playthroughs that meant I had a hard time hitting the Condor. You however seem to have had no problem with that. Maybe I should investigate the Condor some more. Great build around town. I really liked the canal and the bridge.

      Yeah, it took some time to do, but it's something I wanted to do. It was one of those "personal" challenges I like doing in each chapter, or at least the first two. I'm in chapter 3, and I'm not sure what to do as one of my "challenges" other than making the unique spa, but that's already one of the game challenges. I have a save where I was just about done with the lake and had the separators still up. I could go back to that and trigger the swamp to return in one of the sections, fill it in again, and record it this time, at least as some B-roll. I also noticed that with the blocks, but I didn't want to take the chance that I hit one of those poison swamp releases. If that happened, I would have to switch blocks and not use earth blocks, seeing that they would turn into poisonous peat. I just used chalk at the bottom of the lake to save myself the hassle. You know your stuff when it comes to this game. More than myself. I like playing casually. I never got truly stuck in this game, but for the last video, the ways I go through the game aren't always... efficient. I have watched every one that you mentioned and their playthroughs. The funny thing is that I was watching NintendoCarpiSun's playthrough sometime late in 2022, which inspired me to try doing my own Let's Play of Dragon Quest Builders. I made sure that the battle was better this time. I tested it out a few times to make sure. I wanted a rematch against the Condor but was now armed with the knowledge. As I mentioned in the video, I could have heavily modified my town, but I want to challenge myself to find a way to beat it without changing too much of its layout. It took a few tries to locate the suitable placements of things to make it go more smoothly. I noticed that the Ballista can fire on a slight angle, so its placement doesn't have to be dead on the same height as the Condor. Thank you. I really liked the canal idea and how it came out. I was thinking about expanding to accommodate having a ship go through it. That might have to wait until another playthrough. I want to focus on Chapter 3 and what I can do there.

      @@didiraspberry If you want a self imposed challenge for chapter 3, you can always rebuild Galenholm. Even though the NPCs will not go there, you can rebuild that town that once existed as well. I always thought it was said that the chapter was called Kol & Galenholm, but you never rebuild Galenholm at all.

    When I first saw your building of RImuldar, I thought: "Oh wow, this going to go horribly wrong! He is going to have tough time dealing with the Hades Condor." However in the end it wasn't that bad. I think I was comparing it to the first time I played the chapter. I build a giant tower next to the flag with a roof to fight the hades condor. I had stairs for going up the 12 block high tower to my ballista's. I also had them pointing in all four directions. I had a tough time hitting the Condor, even though I didn't need to run around town to much. However I made the town wall out of brick and the tower was made of wood. Already during the first cycle the cronies destroyed the entire base of my tower, cutting me of from the top of the tower. Each time I repaired the path up, a new batch would come to wreck the stairs again. Even before I could make it up. I think you had the luck that your stairs were of to the side and not so much in the monster's path of destruction. The reason why the villagers didn't help during the battles before the boss, was because the AI couldn't comprehend the path downstairs to the battlefield. The AI also won't jump down and damage themselves. Having the stairs of to the side was to far out of the way. Thus the place they ended up was the most optimal position for the AI to fight the monsters. It also doesn't help that the game placed the villagers on the second floor after battle. The game has a predetermined horizontal position for the villagers to be. However vertical is determined by going down from above to the first filled in block that it meets. On top of that block is where the villagers are placed. It is one of the reasons why I never make a second floor in the game. In the DQB2 they rebuild the town after a battle. However I think that it is part of the charm of this game that they do not rebuild. It provides a bit of a "tower defense" type of gameplay. You either find a way to properly defend the town or you will be cleaning it up and rebuilding again. I think that is something that was lacking in the second game. I hope that if Square Enix ever decides to make a third game, they add a setting that you can choose whether the villagers rebuild the town after a scripted battle, or that you will have to do it yourself. It isn't the best chapter however I do think that it's strength lies in the fact that you are fighting diseases. The uncertainty of what ails the patients? Can you find a cure in time? And do we leave them behind or help them? It also shows the dangers for those charged with taking care of the patients. I think that is the beauty of this chapter.

      The game builds you up to build a tower or something high to take the Condor, but that's not the way. I do like your method of keeping the town low to the ground. For all my future playthroughs, I'm definitely going to go that way instead of making these two-floor fortresses, at least for chapter 2. I feel that you should be able to build the arena you're going to fight in instead of a predetermined one around your town. It would make the final battle in the chapter use more strategy of what you'll learn up to this point in the game or something along those lines. I personally like the boss battles in DQB2 and the whole "if your town gets destroyed, when the battle ends, everyone helps to build it up again," and the town people actually help in the boss battle as well. If they were going for more of a tower defence angle, they should have your townspeople defend within the town or have them man some defence, weapons, or something to help it. Of course, I won't complain too much, seeing it was the first of the series. Talking about a third DQB, I'm interested to see how much they can fit into the game, seeing that DQB2 was pretty damn packed with stuff to do. This chapter is good but could be better in the storytelling department. Have some time-sensitive bits where you only have so much time to save the people you find, or they'll die. Though, that might have been too dark for the game.

    An interesting video again. If memory serves me well, then my advice is to stick with the Cloak of Evasion instead of the chain mail. The cloak has the benefit of increased walking speed, but it also has more defense with its +20, compared to the chain mail's +16. The keys are something in this chapter. The "Key" thing is to remember where you need to use the keys. If memory serves, you need a total of 7 keys. Four keys for each of the treasure buildings on each island. Then you need one for Thalamus's vault. And the final two you need in the Ancient Palace, where you got the Farmer Sutra. The last one I have seen many players forget about, good thing there is not anything noteworthy in there. I am also wondering. You stripped almost everything around Yggdrasil, but you never went inside the tree, where Thalamus made a home for himself. You can find furniture in there including a bathtub. The Holy Hock is not that bad to grow as you might think. It just doesn't grow with one night. If you plant one seed and sleep two or three times over it, that 1 seed turns into 5 flowers. Thus the two seeds turn into 10, which is more than enough.

      This is the thing; I know that the Cloak of Evasion is overall better, but for some reason, I always get drawn into wearing the Chainmail. It's odd to think about it. Perhaps it's due to getting the materials for Chainmail after the Cloak, so something triggers me to think it's the better armour. Ah, I see what you did there with the key. :D I don't remember if I got all the locked doors. I know I missed the ones in the Ancient Palace, but I don't remember the treasures being that great, so I guess there was no loss. Really? I never knew that there was something inside of the tree itself. I figured it was just wood blocks all the way through. *Hurried to check it out* Well, damn! There is something inside the tree. I never knew that. I know that farming Holy Hock is relatively easy. I was adding that for some dramatic flair, seeing that the cure for Elle is so near but so far away.

    I have a question. Why do you keep your food and healing items in chests instead of the Colossal Coffer. You cannot get get to them from outside your base, when you actually need it. That is why the NPCs are making it. It is for you to use. Damn, you got that sapphire pretty fast. Most of the time I have to defeat countless Prestidigitators before I even get one sapphire. It is why I am always in the Training Togs. The Cloak of Evasion is to expensive to wear out. Fun fact: sapphires don't actually have to be blue. They can have all the colors of the rainbow, except for red. When it is red it is called a Ruby. The special attack from the Treefaces depletes your hunger meter by about 20%. They make you hungry. Thalamus' puzzle represents a clock, although it only has long hands and no short hand. The text on the sign is old english and it says the following "The time is now between morning (6am) and the noon (12am), or early before midnight (12pm). Change the time on the clock to show a time between noon (12am) and evening (6pm), or early before morning (6am)." Basically you to change the time from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock. That is what the puzzle is all about.

      I carry the building-related items with me instead of the items themselves. It frees up a bit more space, and I don't really think it's necessary for how I'm playing the game during this playthrough. If I were more efficient and optimizing my routes, I would carry more food and healing items with me. I would take the time to prep for my journeys ahead of time and play a lot differently. For this playthrough, I'm just casually going through, not really stressing about too many things. That's probably why I mess up on not bringing some key items that I need at times. :P I usually have a difficult time getting the sapphire as well. Damn drop rates. Grrr! I knew that the Treeface's attack affected your hunger somehow, but I didn't know the details. Thanks for clearing up that clock puzzle. I never understood it. I just placed blocks until I got the blue effect, and then I knew I was completing it correctly.

    For the Dragon Quest Builders 1 the maximum size of a room is 90 floor tiles within the walls. It is really about the available floor tiles. Thus if you make a 10x10 square and you put in 10 tiles of divider walls it is still considered a room. However as soon as you have 91 tiles it fails to register as a room. In Dragon Quest Builders 2 it has been increased to 150 as the maximum size for a room.

    I enjoyed your video again. You probably have already completed the chapter. But I was wondering if you knew that Chalk is pretty much the Obsidian of this chapter. It is the best material to build your wall from. The Brownies may not break the wood, but the wolves will slice through wood as if its earth. It won't stop them.
