Film's hidden superpower?
You never stop learning and one of the things I've been relearning is how much I drifted from my photography being a mainly emotional experience. With digital cameras, and the ability to almost always get a technically perfect picture, I noticed spending less time looking at the photo I want and more time making sure it's technically perfect. Just wondering for a friend, is this something unique to me or do most of us have this happen.
In this video I'm shooting Ilford Ilford FP4 at 125 ISO on the Hasselblad and Ilford HP5 Plus film on the Canon.
Always a good day when you shoot analog and this was a good day.

The perfect Camera? 60MP Digital, 10 seconds later film! Vintage Hasselblad H5x w film back.
มุมมอง 721หลายเดือนก่อน
For photographers who love film and digital was this the perfect camera? Medium Format, 60MP Digital, quick change to film! I've owned the HM 16-32 film back for years but never used it because the camera was used for my commercial photography. Now, having changed to a new system for the commercial work, I get to try this out and see how it works. We explorer Sunset Beach shooting some of the o...
Vintage FD lenses on the Blackmagic Cine 6K BLCC6K - Canon AE-1 test with Kodak Portra 400
มุมมอง 432 หลายเดือนก่อน
Having paid 60 dollars for an auction lot containing: Canon AE-1 FD lenses Canon 28, Canon 50, Canon 85 Vivitar zoom lenses 28-70, 75-210 Would any of this equipment actually work? Tested all the lenses on both the AE-1 and the Blackmagic Full Frame Cine camera. The advantage of these lenses on the Blackmagic FF video camera is the lenses react close to how they were designed so a 28mm actually...
Using FD lenses on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K BLCC6K
มุมมอง 902 หลายเดือนก่อน
Having "won" an auction lot containing a bunch of vintage Canon Equipment ( Canon AE-1 - 28mm FD lens - 50mm FD lens - 85mm FD lens and two vivatar zoom lenses: 28-70 and the 70-205) I was anxious to get out and test them out. I love using FD lenses on my blackmagic Pocket cameras. I also had the chance to shoot some stills with the AE-1 and some Kodak Portra 400. Unfortunately, work got in the...

Creative Block in Huntington Beach
มุมมอง 113 หลายเดือนก่อน
Do Expectations can kill you creativity? It’s easy to get distracted by things we can’t control. I’m guilty of it in this shoot. The weather I wanted never arrived and by the time I had some good weather I was to irritated to take advantage of it.
One Picture that defines Labor Day
มุมมอง 104 หลายเดือนก่อน
Taking a picture to represent the 4th of July or Memorial day is pretty straight forward. A flag, someone dressed in patriotic clothing, a parade, a soldier. But, is there a picture for Labor Day? That's what I'm on the lookout for today.
Balboa Island with Blackmagic FF pocket and vintage 28mm canon lens

I'm here to see if there's enough to shoot on this small island to do a full days still shoot. Yachts, expensive houses and quaint downtown area. Got to be a lot of things on this island that will inspire!
Santa Ana with Hasselblad H5X with Phase One CCD back using Vintage 250mm lens
มุมมอง 775 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just realized. The newest equipment used on this shoot is 10 years old. An amazing place! In a 9 or 10 block area the historic downtown area of Santa Ana is filled with historic buildings. Starting off with my Hasselblad H5X and a Vintage V series 250mm lens with 2X converter I wondered around town. So many amazing buildings to shoot. As it got darker I switched to the Canon 5D mark II and shot...
Santa Ana Walkabout - shot on Blackmagic pocket with vintage lenses
มุมมอง 2275 หลายเดือนก่อน
On the search for more Art Deco vintage buildings to photograph I’d given up on the town of Santa Ana. Sometimes you just need to keep driving, and driving. Eventually, I found the historic downtown area and some amazing buildings. This was a scouting trip for the still shoot I did a few days later. Shot with the Blackmagic Pocket Cine Full Frame and a 28mm Canon FD vintage lens. All handheld.

Happy Holidays 🎄⛄🎈
Thanks - and you too!
This is exactly why I chose to start shooting film this year. I was, and am, obsessed with getting a technically perfect photo but do not give it the thought it deserves when composing it or even choosing whether or not to shoot it. I just went on a hike for about 3 hours the other day and took over 250 pictures with my digital camera. In the end I kept maybe 20 of them. If I had been shooting film I probably would have only shot 12 and enjoyed the experience more so.
HA! Thanks for sharing - I have done the exact same thing! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Makes both of us. With film I tend to be conservative with my photography. Whereas with digital, I tend to be liberal with only so many keepers; the rest are deleted.
Lovely video with a thoughtful perspective, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching and the comment. I truly appreciate it!
love the hat......tell Kathie that next year this should be the family gift
Thanks
Perfectly captured with B&W film, can't beat the emotive atmosphere
Thanks! Yeah, something special about B&W film. Thanks for watching.
Ah Huntington Beach! I live so close and forget how nice it is to just go and take photos. Film photography has those imperfections that make it unique. It’s got a look digital can’t replicate. What an interesting lens and camera! Hope to try shooting on a hasselblad someday!
Hopefully, you get the chance to shoot a hasselblad. In some ways they are a weird camera. Especially, if you are using these older lenses on them. I have to admit I feel like I photograph at the beach to often. But, it's close and there's almost always something interesting going on. Thanks for the reply!
Congratulations on 666 views 😅
Nice video, greetings 🎉
Nice to hear from you! Thanks for the feedback. How's things going with you?
I'm great thanks, trying out new format: short tutorials for kids and parents, and ai enhanced music videos. Cheers 🍻 @@lucascichonvisuals
I had no idea they came with a film back
Thanks for the comment! The Hasselblad models with the x at the end were made for 3rd party digital backs or for their film back. I don’t know the original cost of the film back but right now they are going for over $1,000 on the used market. When I bought camera used it just happened to be part of the stuff that was bundled with the camera.
YOUR STORYTELLING STYLE IS REALLY COOL! AND I LOVE HOW MUCH PHOTOGRAPHY KNOWLEDGE AND SHOOTING TECHNIQUE AND THE OCCASIONAL INSIGHT INTO CULTURE OR PLACES YOU SHOOT YOU SHARE IN YOUR VIDEO. BIG PROPS FOR STARTING A CHANNEL AS WELL! ALL THE BEST
Thanks for the kind comment!
The 500CM will accept a digital back with the adapter plate.
Thanks! I know Leaf used to sell one but I've never seen one. Thing is, if I'm going to use technology I want the newer meters, autofocus, etc.. What I find so interesting about the H5x is I can do film and with an adapter (that I have) use the V series lenses. Something I'm planning to try in a few weeks.
There is a Fuji GFX native adapter for the Hasselblad H lenses (adapter made by Fuji); using all the electronics and the leaf shutter in the lenses. Fuji was de producer of the Hasselblad H cameras and lenses. ;-)
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I actually own that adapter. I don't use it all that much because of the Fujifilm sensor size. The Hasselblad H4D and the H5x with the PhaseOne is almost full MF size where the Fujifilm is a .8 crop.
I always forget how beautiful film images are, until I see them again.
Yes, there is something special about the film. Thanks for the comment.
at first i thought this was "reflection on water"
HA! Well, I guess it could have been. Or maybe Oil and Water. Thanks for the comment!
Hey bro glad to see your getting out. Hope you get time to put something up next week. If not we will see you after the holidays!
I'll see what I can do!
I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do. I do think I've seen some of the shots before. It's good miss your voice.
HA! Well, I'm not sure what I'm trying to do either so that makes two of us.
You definitely captured the vibes of Newport Beach! Visuals look great!
Thank!
just beautiful
Thanks for watching!
Wow, nice atmosphere 😊
It's so unusual for us to get this type of weather. But, the past few months have been fairly strange. A lot of cloudy days. Thanks for watching!
Awesome to see another OC native on TH-cam! I always forget how nice downtown Santa Ana is. Really...the only time I drive down there is when I get the call for jury duty haha It also looks like from your video that they finally finished the OC Street Car path. When I was there the entire street was blocked off which I guess was because they were laying down tracks at the time
Well, I’m just getting started on this. It’s interesting because although I’ve done video and still work for years and years this is the first time I’ve been in front of the camera. It’s been a real learning experience! Yes, they have the Street Car path and it will be interesting to see if it helps bring businesses! Thanks for the comment!
Labor day has no backing, because then it'd have power.
Isn't that the truth! Thanks for watching!
amazing picture and audio quality, it's really a pleasure to watch your videos on big TV :) cheers ✍(◔◡◔)
Thanks! That was a fun one to shoot. The weather was just perfect that day.
Zeiss😮 great video! Cheers 🎉
Thanks! 😀
HA! You'll have to wait until next week Wednesday.
I love these side trips. Seems like a mini vacation. Can I come along next time?
Of course!!
Yes, YES, go back and shoot photos in your style. Love it
Thanks
I did enjoy it! Thanks for that
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a really good day.
just checking if my subscription worked
It worked. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I really like the new addition of the bike, as it provides an unique perspective.
Thanks! Yes it really makes a huge difference.
Thank you for this uplifting video. I wanted to stand up and sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" multiple times! Samuel Francis Smith would have been very proud.
Cool! Nice to see new videos😊 cheers🎉
A lot of stop and starts. Learn and grow is all part of the process. and I am happy to be on this path with you
I am so looking forward to the new project. Can't wait to see it.
Hello! I'm watching your channel with pleasure, i really like this calming and kind "style". Sometimes i'm coming from tough working day home and relaxing while watching your amazing beach videos on TV screen. YT is great place to share feelings, experiences and emotions and of course, meet new people with similar hobby! (●'◡'●) greeting from Europe
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
thanks for upload, great story and very inspiring lecture :)
Look like paradise to me. Beautiful camera work too.
Many thanks!
Your B&W work is outstanding. That shot of the Pier and the 2 last ones are even better than outstanding.
WOW! Thanks for the kind words.
Great, another Episode😊 thanks for sharing your wisdom! 😊
More video like this please. LOVE it!
Hey, I would like to see some of your stereo photos
Wow,new episode! Thanks for sharing, excellent format and composition😊 cheers🎉
It's still hard to be on camera. HA Like anything it takes time I guess. Thanks for the kind comments!
Thank you for the love
LOVE the B&W, but that vintage color is really interesting and colorful, in a good way. I would like to see more.
More to come!
Thanks. I learned alot and just might have to try a long lens
Oh yes, coffee is King. Another great episode 😊 cheers🎉
Thanks. Can't wait to see more with your Helios! Best!
I would love to see more of your Black and white "street photography" Really good stuff
Did you say there were birds there? Love the birds. OMG the birds!! They are the best.
😅 great soundtrack 😊
Great video😊 fotography is more then just a set of lenses... cheers 😊
Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. Got really sick over the holidays. Funny, as much as we need the equipment it really isn't about the equipment at all. HA!
Owwwww, I just got goosebumps. Beautiful.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure about the entire goosebumps thing but yeah, SOCAL is a great place to live.
