Welcome to Rika's Piano Room! 🎶
I originally created this virtual room to share my piano music with my family and friends near and far during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. I eventually decided to share my piano pieces with the world. I learned how to play the piano when I was small and took piano lessons until my early teen years. I went many years without playing the piano in my adulthood. I'm not professionally trained. The piano is simply my hobby and nothing beyond that, but I hope my piano music will bring you peace, joy, calmness, and lots of smiles! 🎼

I composed this very short "Hummingbirds" music by envisioning exquisite hummingbirds I saw in Texas. Hummingbirds suddenly appeared by the Esperanza tree and sucked nectar from yellow flowers. They flew at lightning speed between them, enjoyed as many flowers as possible, and then disappeared into the sky quickly. I felt thankful for the rain when I was recording this piano piece. The area I live in has not had rain for months this Summer, and the drought contingency plan is in place at the moment. Fernando, if you haven’t seen “Princess Mononoke” yet, you should definitely see it. 🙂 It’s a beautiful film with a touching story, gorgeous animation, nuanced characters, and timely message about seeing the humanity in people from many perspectives and walks of life amidst the fog of strife and conflict and finding peace as a result. It is my 5th favorite Ghibli film, with “Castle In The Sky” being my #1 favorite.

Hello, I fell in love with this piece a short while ago and decided to try playing it. I fight every day to try and speed up the tempo even though I always like to play slowly and with emotion. Now that I watched your performance, I realized that emotion is much more important than speed in this piece, and you helped me stop fighting speed.
