Installing the Chrome Trim - Time to Shine! | E24 635 CSI - Restoration Part 2
Welcome to the second episide of my E24 restoration!
In this episode we are going to install all the missing (chrome trim) add on parts. I want to trailer the car to my workshop which has no space for the car to be stored over a long peroid. And since this is Germany, we can expect the 6 series to seee some rain. That means our goal is to make it rainproof!
Since I want to improve my content feel free to give me some criticism via private message on Instagram:

Welcome to my first ever TH-cam Video! This is the first episode of my red E24 Restoration Series. Our first goal is to get the engine running so we can bring this beautiful 635 CSI back on the road! After that we will restore this car as good as we can! Since I want to improve my content feel free to give me some criticism via private message on Instagram: IG: Sunday.Motor.Works ...
Nice job on the video, will be watching as they come out ! I’m an owner of an 1985 E24 Euro 5 speed so great to see yours ! Good luck with getting it back on the road
Wunderbar!!! I have 1987 E24 635csi in America. Fuck Yes!!!
Funny to see this, just like you I have an e24 and a spitfire.
Moin, your e24 looks great! Love it.
Please share where you get your parts from! I'm getting one of these and she needs a lot of love. Any help would be great!
Nice video. Definitely it will help me with my 635CSI restoration :D BTW: the driver door seal - is it a brand new bought at BMW or it is an old one with good condition? I heard the brand new available at BMW does not fit p&p and requires some modification but in fact I did not found any reliable source of information if this is a true and how to deal with it.
Its great having your own garage...Will you sell or keep 635?
My first intention was to sell it but we got friends now, so it will stay at least for a while 👍🏼
Hey good luck...with project,i like your methodolgy,sense of humour is good too😀😀 i own a 86 alfa spider,,,,planning of buying a 635csi in next 6 months
Thank you very much! Definitely a wise decision. They won't get any cheaper!
Hi, how much did you pay for the car if it's not a secret? I hope to see the third part sooner than in 5 months :) Thanks and keep up the great work!
Hello 👋🏼 I don't really want to make the price of the car public. The price seemed pretty good when I bought the car. But as you saw in the videos I already spend quite some time on it and there's still a lot of work to do, so I am not so sure anymore if this was a super deal. Anyway we all love to work on cars so this care gives us all a lot of entertainment, which is at the end what we want from these cars! :) E24 EP #3 is already recorded. To shorten we waiting time I will upload a shorter video about a car you have not seen here yet!
Grusse aus Neu Seeland , Schoene endergebnisse . Habe ich der ganz gleich probleme mit dem trim komponenten bei meine 87 Shadowline in Lachsilber . Koenen sie etwas emphelen als poliern schaden verursachen . ( anodized dunkel grau alu }
Hallo 👋🏼 Leider habe ich keine Erfahrungen mit den dunklen Leisten. Ich würde definitiv von stark abrasivem Polituren abraten. Vielleicht hilft auch bereits eine Versiegelung?
Hello, thanks for your videos. I'm an e24 635 csi owner looking for how to remove and replace the windows alu trims....very helpful information. Greetings from Chile.
I am happy that I could help you. I haven't found any videos about the e24 alu trim on TH-cam, so my goal was to explain it in detail as akind of tutorial 👍🏼
@@SundayMotorWorks Any DIY info in these cars are very important due to the few working those days. If you need any info or help on "how to" let me know and maybe I can help in the restoration. Greetings.

Wow! The car looks fantastic now. Is it Henna Red? Just a bit of information. I had an E30, 1987, so had chrome bumpers. The jointing pieces lost their shine, so I bought 2 genuine new ones from BMW. I polished the bumpers maybe 3 times using Solvol Autosol metal polish, which we all used on everything, and the new jointing pieces polished straight through to the brass underneath! The electroplating must have been really thin. I had to buy 2 more, and they were expensive even back then, and only waxed them after that.
It should be Henna red but I had no chance to verify it so far! Thanks for the advice. Maybe Autosol is a little bit too agressive on electroplated parts. Did you use a protective wax after the first time you've polished the bumper?
@@SundayMotorWorks I can't remember. I had the car from 1990 to 1996, but I do remember that the bumper jointing pieces were very poor quality for a genuine BMW part. I think the real point is, don't use any metal polish (they are all abrasives after all) if you don't need to. Clean and protect is the way.
Finally!! 😍

Just yesterday I watched the first episode, and today there's already a new one) I understand that editing videos takes a lot of time, but don't disappear for so long! Very good and high-quality content! Hello from Ukraine!
Thank you so much for your kinds word! Thankfully I have now 2 full episodes already recorded and I will focus more on editing for the next months!
Great!
Perfect.
I had a new one in the same colour in the UK when they first came out- It was an incredible machine - I sold it to a guy in Rotherham after putting 50,000 miles on it - he ran it for a year then I bought it back from him and this time sold it to a guy in Australia this car became a racing car and won the Bathurst 500 race - 👍
@@markslowen1411 Great Story of your car and cool that you could track it's history!
Noooo, it was such a beautiful original colour, why did they change it ?? 😳😳😳
@@triverbike1368 I also can't understand. Usually I am not a big fan of paint jobs diverted from the original paint. But the advantages and condition of the seals and external body was to good to say no! :)
Waiting for part 2
It's out!
Wheres the 2 part

Keep the original wheels 🙏🏻👍🏻
I think I will go with some bigger rims that will fit the time of the build. Maybe I already have a set who knows 😋🤫
Looking forward to the next episode! Great content!

And this is my quickest response on a comment! Thank you very much! The actual progress ist quite far. I am just a little behind und the video editing. The second episode is almost ready tho so you won't habe to wait to long 🤝🏼
What and where are you getting the repair manual your using?
It's a mix of E28 repair manuals like "Jetzt helfe ich mir selbst" and documets from different forums. To understand how things work the BMW spare parts cataloge always helps!

Love it, I just got a 1987 E24 L6 2 weeks ago so I will come along with you on this project. Mine has been off the road since 2017
Congratulations on your e24! I will guarantee you that you won't regret it :) Actually I am quite far on the project now, recorded everything but I need to find some time to cut the video material. That part is extremely time consuming. See you on the next one!
@@SundayMotorWorks great to hear! My senson broke off and Im picking away at it.
Turns out my issue was the main relay and one crankshaft sensor so now on to coolant hoses. Question, can you get repair panels there of the left front wheel arch?
I have learned a lot thank you
Hi again SMW , I ran the engine without the rocker cover ( AFM /LMM plugged in but not in airflow ) to find major oil leak from the camshaft oil spray bar banjo bolt being loose . I tightened it and reset the valve clearances at the valve stem side and double checked them . Ticking gone ..... Wunderbar Hugo
Hello Hugo, I am really happy to hear that you found your issue. As I said in the video these Banjo bold can absolutely ruin you day. I would recommend the check them every Oil change / valve clearance adjustment! Have a great weekend!
Thanks for that info . I will run the engine with the feeler guage between the valve and rocker to see if get rid of the tick . It’s only one cylinder and the tick is half engine speed . Difficult to isolate with rocker cover on ! Could be piston noise ( slap ) ? Vielen Dank Aufwieder Horen Hugo

Excellent purchase and diagnostics . I have a big coupe 635csi Shadow line 1987 model here in Neu Seeland { NZ } that I have what sounds like a valve clearance problem ( ticking noise ) . The cylinder head has been rebuilt ( 330,000 km ) after Gasket failure , Engine runs sweet with no oil consumption but after a recheck of valve clearance and reset again a fraction tighter I still have this tick ( Just like a tappet ) that starts to appear as the engine temperature rises from cold . Have you any ideas that may assist with this problem . Auf Wiederhoren Hugo Monteith
Hello Hugo, It's really hard to give you a diagnoses without actually hearing the car. Overall what can be said is that these engines do tick. You can reduce the valve clearance tighter and the ticking will be less, BUT the risk of cam wear is significantly higher then. I would recommend to go with OE clearances. However this dies not explain your ticking voice. I have seen calves which had damaged contact surfaces. Maybe doe to the wrong cleances over a long time. The contact surface between valve and rocker arm was extremely uneven and bits have broken out. If you adjust the clearance on such a valve I can imagine that once the engine runs the clearance is out of spec after some time eventually. So maybe check your valve surfaces.
