Welcome to Kodys Backwoods Basics. Here you will find relatable content involving fishing, hunting, and anything related to the outdoors. My goal is to reach the audience that considers themselves average, new to the sport, or just a weekend warrior. Not all of us have thousands of dollars in gear for both hunting and fishing. What we do have is the love and passion for either sport. So tag along and follow me as I share my love for these sports and I hope you can either relate or learn from my videos!
Are these the BEST 2 BEGINNER KAYAKS? Old town or Bonafide paddle kayaks!
This is just a quick little video I wanted to put together for anglers who are thinking of getting into kayak fishing. I would not qualify these as budget kayaks but both of these entry paddle kayaks give you plenty of room and comfortability to get on the water!

@@Kodysbackwoodsbasics 22+" on Nikko craw, there is something to be said about a silt cloud on a clear, low water level with slow current. It's my only conclusion, since for the previous hour I had no luck yet kept fishing the same spot?
Cool video man

Always fun fishing w/ya 🔥
One minute in i got motion sick. Camera man needs to back up a bit. Anyway, good vid.

what part of the lake do you fish at?

Dude you slammed them! Great video. I’ve been wanting to make the trip up there. Hopefully while it’s still fall or next spring. Loving the channel man!
@@GillRaker79 thank you I appreciate it
What area do u fish mostly? I’m getting back to tourneys this winter gonna be fishing lake Anna series in Virginia to knock so ole rust off my brain to start making correct decisions again but I am gonna start filming for my own channel and curious if you’d ever want to link up and get some fishing I live on Allegheny river in New Kensington about 20 min north of Pittsburgh
@yinzoutdoorz2413 I'm about 1 hour away from Pittsburgh towards ebensburg area. I stay around that way more but I venture up towards oil city way here and there
Nice musky!!! Looked like a Tiger
@@MikeB-68 it was a tiger
Best boat ever made. Why on earth did they stop producing these.
No way you could have had a more embarrassing fay 1 than I did unless you were fishing near Danville. Went blind into fishing that stretch ( dumb move) the clarity was terrible, the current was super strong, and the jet boats/jet skis were ripping all around me the 1st day. Decided to hit the junitata on day 2 and had a way better day but couldn't get nothing of size in the yak. You live and learn. I'll never fish another big tournament like that without a good amount of pre fishing done where Im going to fish.
@RobertDanner-p5p we were down below you, and it was not a good stretch. I definitely made a bad decision the first day. Like you said, though, you ljve and learn. I was at least able to do way better day 2. I'm working on that video now!
Thanks for the update! I'm curious, is there a way you could have known that the area was a common jetboat path?
@jcoleman3307 the only way I would have known was maybe if a local had told me. I was not familiar enough with this area to assume that it would be that way. Practicing during the week I never once saw a boat
Texas rig is my favorite with a senco Weightless
What did you do with the old plastic pieces you took out I have a Coleman Crawdad also but my plastic parts are in need of some TLC and if I can just buy yours off of you then I can get by with the ones that you don't use anymore
@@victormontgomery7047 I no longer have them
The Bass Pro Shops Swerve glidebait is quickly becoming a fav of mine...$20 for a big glide with the action it has is a great deal...colors are excellent as well.....this bait is under the radar, which is fine with me 😂
@@andybales7318 that's awesome!! As long as it works for you and you're catching fish
Nice bro
@@AnthonyPlows thank you
Crushed it
Personally I prefer a Texas rig with a bit of weight. Any reason why you do it weightless?
@jamesnevins1832 it allows me to keep it up in the water column and just twitch it above the grass like a fluke. Also, letting it sink without a weight gives the bait a whole different action as it slowly falls
What makes you fish a Texas rig with a with a baitcaster, and a wacky with spinning if they're both weightless?
@richwebb2582 If I'm using a baitcaster, it's typically going to be around heavier cover. When I use a baitcaster on a weightless senko, I'm also keeping it up in the water column instead of letting it sink. I feel as if I have more control on a medium action baitcaster when working it fast over grass like a fluke. Then with the medium heavy I have a tungsten weight on and Im actually flipping it into the the cover. So heavier line and thicker vegetation/brush to get tbe fish out of. As far as using a spinning rod with a wacky rig, it's just more of a finesse approach, I guess you could say. Lighter line and I'm keeping the bait on the outside of the cover. I'm also letting it sink and can just open the bell on a spinning rod and let line out to let it slowly sink. Hope some of that helps!
Kody I live up here at Glendale lake and would like to get together maybe on kayak and have good time and learn some stuff
Hey Kody I’m a local …and gotta boat and have yet to catch a fish from this lake …if ya would take me out and show me
Shit, my real question is have you been out to canisius recently? How's the weed situation along with the cottonwood?
No, I wish I was there. I live in PA, and we were there on vacation that year. I'm going to try to get up there once this year
I'm going to be honest with you. I was about ready to start talking shit but he's fishing well using the right stuff. Can't dog a dude that knows how to fucking do it right
I fish off the bridge with shiners and fat heads and I caught a 4 pound smallie

Way to get the lady out on the boat with you. Great day of fishing out there 🎉
Can't believe those small bass hitting that glidebait. I would have been swimming for that lure. Would have made good video if you got it.
I bought a magnet and went back the next day and got it
What reel is that on the glide bait?
Shimano Tranx
Nice to see some local bass fishing
Sure is
L O L !
How would you compare it to like a bass raider or pond prowler?
I'm not too familiar with either of those but I would highly recommend a crawdad to anyone. Just keep it original
I primarily fish the quemahoning, water levels and water clarity have made fishin tough so far this year.
The levels are good right now and the fishing is heating up
Excellent video, what month were you there? If you get back this way you gotta hit Cayuga and Keuka
I hit Keuka years ago, and it was fun. We were there in August, but since it was a family vacation we stayed on that lake
This should work fine. Looking for one to use in Ozello, FL
Thank you for sharing! 🐟🎣
Hey Jeb nice job Young man beautiful small mouth nice largemouth s to. Thanks for the video and God bless you and your family.
sub good info
Would this rod be good for panfish? Since it’s fast action and is more towards a medium light rod?
Yes I would think so. I just started using the medium light for trout fishing. In my opinion it's to light for bass fishing but it's awesome for using a spinner on the streams
@@Kodysbackwoodsbasics What you think about like crappie etc? And yes maybe trout.
@@Brrr559 I use it for crappie as well when I go out
You’re definitely right about the 6’ 8” spinning rod, its a really good rod for lighter jerkbaits for bass and trout, luckily you dont need a crazy hookset/backbone with treble-hook jerkbaits,, just lean into it…
I swear that young handsome boy has never heard of a comb in his life. I don't think I've ever seen him without bedhead. I'd take care of him.

I bought a 2000 Lowe 170 with a 70hp Johnson in 2011 from a friend. It had the Evinrude branded Minn Kota TM like yours, until I upgraded it to a 24v Maxxum (cheap from another friend upgrading to 36v.) It served me very well, lots of fun. Started developing some leaks in 2020 and donated it to Wounded Warrior affiliate to work with. 'Hope yours is still running well.
