I'm Nick, a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. I create videos every month where I talk about LA, my creative process, and my music journey.
I have several projects:
- I release original pop and electronic music as "Nicholas Roberts."
- I create instrumental and meditation music as "Summertime Kids."
- I offer vocal sample packs, toplines, and a cappella vocals as "Vocal Source" (@vocalsource).
- I also manage LA Music, a free creative directory for musicians. You can find it at losangelesmusic.io/

Is it time to SLOW down?

More and more, I'm hearing from friends and other creatives that they're burnt out. And that they're taking a step back or quitting completely. Is it time for us to slow down?

Good for you Brother! I use Trader Joe’s products as well and have been very pleased with them. They are Great Quality and a Good Bargain! I especially like their Supplements; same thing! Peace! ✌🏼 Abel

Hey by any chance do you know how do we need to connect our laptop to the wire that’s set in pirate. It’s not a usb connection is it ?
Facebook is just a fascist tool
I used to post my music too. It is alot of work for so little reward, as far as translating to sales after spending thousands. I left all social media accept youtube. No regrets.
Social media is that annoying friend who’s a bad influence
I just recently made the same decision to quit social media. As a musician I was struggling with that decision because I kept feeling like I need it in order to share my music when it’s out. Regardless I decided to quit and I’m giving myself a year without to focus in on my art and share it only here on TH-cam as I don’t consider YT is a social media app. Glad to see another musician went / going through this too :)
Great video man - appreciate you approaching this from both angles
'promosm' ❤️
I have zero listeners with or without social media 🎉😂
For myself, the biggest cons of deleting social media have been not knowing how to market my artwork without it and not knowing how to find out about local shows/concerts. Would love to hear your suggestions!
Good advice for writing in general, a script story ect
bro you look like dr. strange
Bendycat Cookiebatch? Love him!
true
thank you!
I love you carry on ❤
I love you carry on ❤
This was very interesting -- love when we can see the sausage making since people tend to really guard this info. We made exactly $0, as we always do -- but you're an *actual* musician so we want to live in a world where you make more than we do 😁 Hope your 2024 numbers continue to grow 🎉
Thanks so much! I think we're all actual musicians :P - As they say, in the "music business," business is always the bigger word. Wishing you success too! Thanks for watching.
Totally get about the dissolving thing -- not weird at all 👏
I wish it didn’t! I want it to last longer
I thought this was going to be about you as a artist with you speaking to how you market now, monthly streams, etc but cool to hear about you and your friends 😂🤣
How did quitting social media affect your sales and streams?
Hard to tell this year! On the one hand, obviously, dropping off social media affected how many people were finding my music. But on the other, I feel like I've made much deeper personal connections with people I'm meeting at shows these days. Not just a quick TikTok follow. And I'm happier with my musical output because I've been able to spend more time with it. So it's a trade off, for sure. But also, the SAG and writers' strike this year impacted my streams the most. Lots of people used to discover my songs from TV shows, and that almost completely went away. Spotify says I got about 1 million streams this year and about 1.2 million last year. For now, I'm enjoying playing live and building community with real people. Money stuff will sort itself out.
Well said.
Thank you. Much love.
The majors have hijacked all the 'social media' & music streaming platforms these days now so getting out now and somehow going 'indie' is the way forward if you want to scrape a living as a musician these days, good luck dude
I believe this! Indie is the future. Cheers and good luck to you too.
Goodluck on your career bro, keep creating, take care of yourself
Thanks for watching! Same to you. Hope you're successful too
An extra one for the comments - Feeling stuck on lyrics or melodies? Use a capo to pitch your song up and down on a guitar. Listen to how your voice reaches for different notes and cadences when singing higher or lower. It can help you hear the song in a new way. If you're making music in a DAW, pitch it up one or down one semitone for the same effect. I do both when I'm unsure of how the vibe of a song should change.
