    @aalejardin 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the video. This year I started tossing garden debris throughout the season into a side bed rather than hauling it to the compost bins. I am in Zone 7a NY so colder over the winter which may mean my materials break down more slowly than yours, but I will see how things look in the spring. The virtue of your method is likely that the materials stay relatively moist, which hastens decomposition. The materials in my wire bins also seem to be breaking down much more slowly and tend to be dry. Apparently one is supposed to water a compost bin, but who has time for that :)?

    • @easygrowinggarden
      @easygrowinggarden 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Living in a wet climate does has it benefits! Try covering your wire bin with plastic for some added heat and moisture retention. The painters plastic have usually held up for me.

It was the kitchen scraps compost by a mile... It's the best stuff, make as much as you can.

    • @easygrowinggarden
      @easygrowinggarden 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mentally, it is important for me to keep my gardening space clean and organized so I made it just as important. I try to clean up right after before moving on to the next thing. Sometimes easier said than done and when that happens! Just like I set aside times to seed start, plant or harvest...I will set aside time to weed, clean and put away things. Anyone can do this! Wagon made things so much easier for me. Took the strain of carrying heavy things off and helped make less trips. I've had this Gorilla one for many years (6+?), although it has some cracks and I've had to replace the tires it was worth it!

    Very nice! I do the same with my garden debris except I add/bury the debris in all my beds and do a lot of composting in place. Love it! It keeps my soil so healthy. Next time, try using a tarp instead of plastic. Tarps work wonderfully for jobs like that. I will be stealing this idea. Such a great way to compost. I’d love something like this to throw debris on throughout the gardening season. Great job!

      Yes, there will be volunteers! If it's one here and there, I'll grow it out but if there is a lot in a specific area I'll just rake my hand over it and that will remove them. This is a cold compost method so any seeds you put in, including weed seeds are all still viable. It's all easy to remove especially if you use the compost in a concentrated area so don't let that stop you from trying this method!

    Hi there. All is well! I have learned from a number of TH-camrs that adding worms to the compost helps to break down the large pieces because the worms eat on the chunky pieces. Also, when the worms die, their dead bodies add more nutrition to the soil. Please try! Blessings!

    • @PCLpropertymanagement

      No need to add worms they come naturally by the fact you have a raised bed on soil Given the right conditions they will be thriving in there within a few weeks naturally

      Thanks for the tip...worms do amazing things for the garden! The worms find this compost with ease and definitely help with the breakdown but once everything has pretty much broken down and there is much of a "food source" left, the worms leave for better areas.

      I have a hard time remembering which are the beneficial worms. 1 bed currently is filled with a dark tan/orangish/ amber slightly scaly suckers. I think the shiny ones that get super active when touched are jumpers and NOT good..idk. any insight please😇

      @@HealthyHabitsGrow Common types sold for vermicomposting are Red Wigglers and European Night Crawlers so these are going to be your beneficial worms. Try looking these up so see if they match the ones you have. Unless you have a difficult time growing in the area that have the Jumping Worms, I wouldn't worry too much about them. If there is a infestation then I would look into reducing the population.

    First time watching your channel. My parents used to do this when we lived in upstate New York. I live in Florida now which is totally different. Try using a large tarp underneath all your garden debris and after forking it into the bed you can move it easier without the plastic breaking.. Then you can slide it towards your bed and roll it into it. It’s easier.

      I had no idea the plastic would be so brittle given it was only out there for a few weeks! I will definitely be trying the tarp next year, in fact I already have one that I use for similar jobs.
