Hello Bo; Good mini documentary on the history of the ABA. Some fine points & not commonly well known facts concerning the teams & players of the era. Nice to have the cards & get a general overview of the ABA's history throughout the years. The teams history, statistics & which players lasted in the league's history. Take care, Tina
@@tinaferrazzoli8006 I never saw an ABA game. We had no team here and they had no national contract. But I read about it in the sporting news. My dad got it. Plus I had a red white and blue ball. All kids did.
ABA huh. I don't like their music but I like the two chicks. I had a guy say that to me one time. He wasn't a Bball fan. LOL
@@BobbyGass5 hahaha! They were no Caroenters.
I do remember DJ from when he played in Boston. Everyone knew Spencer Haywood and Jack Sikma. Nice row of cards Bo. A lot of basketball history there~ Rob/Boston
@@Paneeks1960 Rob, I collect cards because of the stories. They don’t have to be valuable. I just like what they represent.
Hello Bo; Remember the Seattle SuperSonics pre Oklahoma, with starters like Bob Rule, Lenny Wilkens, Dick Snyder, & Spencer Haywood. Unfortunate about the NBA's decision to make an example of the team. What could have been we will never know. Good to see these B -ball videos.Take care, Tina
@@tinaferrazzoli8006 Duck, Joe Hassett, Lee Winfield, Bud Stallworth, Lucius Allen, Pete Cross, Dennis Awtrey, etc. Grsat era. I remember them all. My earliest sports memories are of the SuperSonics. Long before the Mariners or Seahawks. I was around before the pilots. But I am too young to remember them. My memory starts in 1974.
I been a Boston Celtic fan for over 60 years Bo. Christ I even seen Bob Cousy play. TV of course. LOL.. John Havlicek was my fav player until Larry Bird showed up in 79. First game I remember the rookie Bird on the floor for loose balls with Big Red Dave Cowens. Even when we got a NBA franchise here in Toronto I did not switch my allegiance. I might be a homer but I don't bail on my teams. I'm still a Cleveland Brown fan since the 50s so that says it all. LOL... I forgot DJ was with the Sonics. He hit a lot more shots in Boston than he ever did in Seattle...
@@BobbyGass5 when Seattle first came into the nfl it was easier to keep rooting for Oakland as Seattle was in the nfc. But we switched in year 2 and ended up in the afc west with Oakland. Baseball wise it was similar. No interleague play then so Philly and Seattle didn’t play. But the Sonics? They were there from the moment I can remember watching sports. Hondo was a great player. I remember both titles they won in the 70s.
You really do know your Celtics Bobby. Curious. Did you ever see them play at the old Garden? I will dig up some of my Championship cards sometime that coach Bill Fitch gave to me. <> Bird was amazing. As was Cousy. Cousy could really shoot~ Rob/Boston
@@Paneeks1960 Morning Rob. I never been to a game Rob but I been watching them on TV since about 1959-60 so yeah I seen them play in the old Garden. Funny how I always loved the Boston Celtics and the Boston Patriots but never liked the Bruins.... The fans are animals. Smile.
That was pretty good!
@@fragarach44 thank you very much.
I always love seeing that old Stax label.
@@dixielandfarm it’s a classic. I’ve been trying to score them as I find them. The documentary was fascinating.
Hello Bo; Remember the team when they came into the league. Featuring players like Bob McAdoo & Bob Kauffman. Always liked the name, unfortunate that the team could not find a niche in Buffalo. Nice oral history concerning the teams existence & their eventual move to San Diego. Good 🏀B-Ball video. Take care, Tina
@@tinaferrazzoli8006 I liked them too. I liked the SD version of the Clippers as well. Why does LA have two and Seattle 0? Thanks a million Steve Balmer. Way to run out on the city.
Same reason why I listen to 60s music in the 80s... but I DID buy vinyl because I would dub my albums onto cassette which sounded better. Was Secret of My Success what you were thinking? Indigos is a good album. Night Train - also very good.
@@dixielandfarm it was secret to my success. We just bought cassettes. Cheaper. Easier to tote.
Being a Maple Leaf fan I always hated the Habs until Dicky Duff went there. Then Frank Mahovalich went there too. I could have added stories to pretty near every player you showed Bo. I lived and breathed Hockey for a lot of years. I played with some guys that made the NHL and some that should have but they discovered girls and alcohol. The Habs greatest defenceman Doug Harvey died in a boxcar in a train yard broke, destitute and unloved by the Habs franchise. Doug Harvey was Bobby Orr before Bobby Orr was Bobby Orr... Rocket Richard when he retired had to go around to little fishing get togethers selling his brand of fishing line. I actually owned a spool of it once upon a time. The Habs as a franchise wasn't very good to their players Bo.
@@BobbyGass5 I think a lot of franchises then weren’t good to their players. I did know you played with many of these guys. What a sad end for Harvey. I didn’t know that. Eventually I’ll get around to doing the Leafs too. But I think I’m going to do the ABA’s Memphis franchise next.
Great cards and stories. There is definitely something cool about raw cards.
@@jd66cards I agree. If you’re just collecting? Perfect way to acquire on the cheaper end. I wish I had your eye. You find great cards super cheap but they end up grading well.
As I was looking at the Denny McLain card. I was trying to picture him as someone who would have done the things he did was very tough. Really nice story of Tony Kubek. At first I thought that it was Tony Conigliaro. That is quite a nice collectable. Jeez. Bo Belinski sounded like a colorful character too. But he could probably play the part of small time gangster. Denny could not. {smile} Interesting stuff and really nice cards. Have a great weekend Boster~ Rob/Boston
@@Paneeks1960 hi Rob. Tony C. I should have shown one of his cards. That’s a true what might have been story. He was on his way to the HOF. I think next one I’ll show cards from Les Canadiens. I’ve shown most of my cool Bruins. Though I know Montreal is a big Boston rival.
I remember Bo Belinski. A party animal huh and pool hustler you say. You mentioned Paul Newman in the movie The Hustler. You know that trick shot at the start of the movie where Newman and the other salesman are in the bar shooting pool and Newman is drunk. He makes an impossible shot and the salesman calls him lucky. The drunk Newman bets he can make the shot again and offers up all his money to prove it. His salesman buddy declines and leaves the bar. The bartender decides to take the drunks money and bets he can't make the shot again. Newman tells him to set up the balls the way they were when he made the shot so the bartender does. The object ball is frozen against the rail with the que ball frozen against it. Newman banks the ball into the corner picks up the money and leaves. You remember that shot Bo? I've made that shot tons of times, the most 3 times in a row. Yep, I played pool. I actually played Hurricane Higgins a game of snooker when he was barnstorming pool halls on a tour here in North America with Steve Davis both world champion snooker players at one time or another in their careers. I never seen anybody put as much stuff on a ball as Higgins did. He beat me of course. As kids we ruined all our baseball and hockey cards by playing with them. A nickel a pack with the worst goddamn gum you ever chewed as a kid. LOL I remember pretty much all those guys you showed. Those were the days when Men were Men..... Great video Bo, great stories....
@@BobbyGass5 Bobby, I swear your story is so amazing. I know people have encouraged you to write a book. They’re not wrong. Do I know that scene? Of course, it’s my favorite movie of all time. My Dad used to hustle pool back in the day. He and my uncle. Small time stuff. A way to earn a few extra bucks. I learned to shoot too. I was pretty good. Though I never played for money. But I haven’t held a stick in 30 years. Men were men indeed. I know time marches on and things change. But it doesn’t mean I have to like it. Thanks for sharing, Bobby. You’re a classy gentleman.
@@earheadsix4119 Yeah I gave hustling a shot too like your Dad and Uncle Bo. Too tough a go, people were leery. Toronto had a lot of pool halls with a lot of gambling going on but a stranger walking in and trying to get into a game for money was a definite red flag event. LOL... The book thingy? I had one guy from California that wanted to write it but when I told him I'd have to have last edit on it to protect some that are still living and their families he declined. Bo writing a book is not an easy task. I used to be an amateur writer and have a half finished novel of over a million words so I know what it entails. Short stories were my forte'. I've family that are published writers and they've read some of my stuff and said I should get myself published it's good. I can't be bothered too much hassle. I'm quite happy just being myself and enjoying life the way I want too. Besides, I'm RETIRED lol......
fun fun fun Bo......loved it! So I had to look up Belinisky. Well Wikipedia says he was romantically involved with Ann-Margret, Connie Stevens, Tina Louise. Damn. That is an amazing list. Remember that Denny Mclain card well. That whole series. What a guy! Interesting about Piersall. Did not know. What is interesting, FEAR STRIKES OUT was made 57'. About mental illness. PSYCHO was 1960, post. I believe we have a TWINS minor team here in Hartford CT
@@FlipSideCT I know Fear Strikes Out came out before Psycho. I was just trying to say who the actor was before I could think of his name. My favorite movie of his is Star in the Dust with Henry Fonda anyhow. Bobo Belinsky could certainly get around.

@@majorkelly4642 as for their output with EB? Top shelf. I think they had stronger consistency later without him.
Hey Bo; War's Spill the Wine, like the Hockey cards garnishing the single. A song that has stood the test of time.
@@tinaferrazzoli8006 eb’s highlight with war.
Hey Bo; The first & best by the Watchband in our opinion. Had it received decent promotion the LP would have done better. Good Tune!
Hey Bo; Alberts tune that he made his own, pinched by Cream for their Wheels of Fire LP. The best Stax LP cover ever!

Hey Bo; The second LP with the four man line up. An LP to have, enjoyed the first one better. Doing Codeine a well covered tune of era.
@@tinaferrazzoli8006 I have the first album too. But their version of codeine is my favorite.
Hey Bo; The Standells title song from the exploitation movie of the same name. An LP with its own cheesy promotion right on the cover!

The 1967 album that brought all the Hippie's and College kids to the Blues... Great album.
@@BobbyGass5 one of the best. Interesting that it’s on Stax.
@@earheadsix4119 Interesting? Not really Bo. He knocked around the country under other labels making singles that never caught on so when he moved to Memphis he signed with Stax to make a bunch of 45s and they turned those into a comp album.
Nice card of Hammerin' Hank Aaron my favourite ball player of all time along and with a pennant of my fav ball team the Milwaukee Braves. I own only one bobblehead Bo and it's of Grapes better known as Don Cherry... LOL
@@BobbyGass5 I miss Don Cherry on Hockey Night in Canada. I get CBC here and watch every Saturday night. My Dad and his Dad took a bus from Snohomish, WA to LA in 1963 and caught a 3 game set between the Braves and Dodgers. I have both teams pennants but a leak in my garage caused bad damage to the LA pennant. I still have it but don’t display it. They saw said players plus Spahn, Koufax and Drysdsle pitch.

@earheadsix4119 no worries. First song is Far Side of Crazy and there is a video on here.
That would be excellent if the Nordiques were back in play. Love the Jersey! The NHL should definitely bring in the WHA stats like MLB did with Negro League stats. Go Avs!
@@kenscardboard I agree on both counts. 100%. I think the stats should count. I’d like to see the Whalers come back too.
Loving the Mario Lemieux rookie below right. One of my top ten favorite hockey players of all time. What a room you have there Bo. Love to see the Bruins represented too. Orr was the best defenseman that I ever saw play the game~ Rob/Boston
@@Paneeks1960 Espo is a Blackhawk on the card. But also seen are the Orr and Milt Schmidt. I always liked Derek Sanderson. I think he personified cool. Giles Gilbert too. Were you a Shakey Walton fan? He became a bigger star in the WHA.
@@earheadsix4119 I was certainly a Mike Walton fan Bo. I do remember when he went to play in the WHA. He was a great hockey player. I remember him playing on the power play with Orr a few times. Faceoffs were super important to him and the team depended on him to get it back to Orr whenever he could. <> I used to sit with Woody Dumart. {I think I told you this before}. @@Paneeks1960 thanks Rob. I find with records I’m doing less impulse buying. More things that are getting multiple plays. If it is just sitting? It needs to go. Now hockey cards? Purely impulse. lol.
