I re-named this S.H.I.T ..Severe Hormonal Incapacitating Turmoil…simply because it occurs also when there is no menstruation ….puberty, pregnancy, during breastfeeding months/years, menopause. Suffered since 13yrs old in 1982… overdose at 15… classed as depressed ….antidepressants in late teens …the pill…. Quit them at 19…struggled on two weeks hell mentally then one week cramps, migraines, IBS, so one good week a month. Struggled raising 3 sons to different Dads, no relationship lasting. After 20yrs of this met my now hubby, who was later diagnosed with Asperger’s ..until then we thought all our troubles were the severe hormones alone..but Asperger’s has similar melt downs and uncontrollable rages etc non stop negative thoughts ..chasing the other around to argue, fault finding etc etc ..pretty much our faith in God somehow kept us together but a few splits too and barely a couple now really. To cut it short in 2012 whilst on a bipolar group ..as I was misdiagnosed, someone who ran a PMDD group suggested I check it out, I knew then it was that. Eventually got a diagnosis ..after a long struggle, and also was told by a crisis team member that she wore a magnet which helped reduce menopause symptoms …I forgot..but bumped into a woman a few wks later who I got chatting to..and she suggested this magnet …a ladycare magnet…so I thought that was God reminding me via her…and I got one the next day. I told folk on the PMDD group that if it worked for me in any way, then I’d buy anyone one who couldn’t afford one or didn’t wanna waste £22 on one, and after a few days, when I was on what should have been my suffering weeks, I wasn’t suffering that much..I had suicidal thoughts but not intensely enough to send me to go attempt, I had anger but not to the rage extent, I cried but not the uncontrollable sobbing as before , I was still sad, hated life etc but the overwhelming intensity with no let up of negative thoughts wasn’t there, I had some gaps of let ups to breath a little, and I could distract the negative thoughts ..change the subject…which I couldn’t before. My mission was to buy as many magnets for as many sufferers as possible with 10% of our income we put aside to help others. I listed them all over the world for two yrs until the uk government banned the general public from posting strong magnets abroad! In 2014. So since then I just inform people when I can and hand them out to whoever I meet who sufferers with this or knows someone who does. Most of the female neighbours around me have one and I bump into females on a regular basis when I’m able to get out, who I give a magnet to, and we keep ordering them. Trouble is the greedy company put them up to £50 each!!!!! My hubby emailed them and they reduced to £45 ..still ridiculous though, but what can we do about greed! I don’t care, I know God supplies it all anyhow and will continue to do this until I can’t. Hubby was diagnosed in 2015 with Asperger’s and got on disability with it, and I got on disability with this as we can’t commit to anything and I hibernate months sometimes now aged 55 and still enduring it, and my poor sweet girl has endured it two yrs now. She wears a magnet and no suicide attempts so far, just thoughts. We hibernate and distract via online games or you tube etc MAGNET…DISTRACTION…HIBERNATION help us most ..plus hubby doesn’t have major melt downs since he wore a magnet in 2020 and he can keep us ticking over when I’m unable. I had three whole months of thermal me last Nov until Feb this yr and thought the severe hormones were over ..I re-named S.H.I.T ..Severe Hormonal Incapacitating Turmoil …as no menstruation in puberty, pregnancy, breastfeeding times, and menopause (can’t remember if I’ve already said this 🤔) so it describes it better than PMDD. Anyhow by the end of Feb I got the old familiar thought of wanting to die …and was devastated 💔 I’m still unwell now and haven’t had any good days since but have managed to go on walks or sit on a bench with my mum, or sons and daughter if she’s able..rare…and hubby and one sons partner. So I’m not the real me still and hate life and hate waking up every day and wish my girl and I could be taken from this struggling life and envy anyone who dies, but still better off than before I wore the magnet. That was total loss of all control times when unwell. I am more patient with the magnet. It tends to make it inward where as without it, the S.H.I,T is more outward ..explosive. I just cry on my own and keep hibernated. Asperger’s can’t show comfort or speak it in my hubby anyhow, so when we’re quite distant, I wouldn’t even class us as a couple anymore …but he ticks things over and manages to feed our youngest two still at home and do the washing etc when I can’t. When I met him I had struggled to raise three sons alone, but had managed a home for 20yrs. He was depressed in his room at his parents. Now he runs the home and raises our two children alone, and I hibernate depressed in my room the majority of the time. Roles reversed. He has a purpose, I don’t. I have hated the majority of my life and am heartbroken 💔 that my only girl endures this too 💔 I can only describe S.H.I.T as equal to the exhausting all encompassing grief you have when you find out your child has died …my eldest son died by suicide aged 23 💔 and you wouldn’t expect me to go do the weekly shop after finding out that kind of news …but you’re expected to do that with S.H.I.T yet feeling the same exact intense grief! God actually gave me His Peace Beyond All Understanding 🌈✝️🕊️over my sons death (it was due to a relationship split with the mother of his two babies) but I have no such peace over S.H.I.T yet my faith in Him never falters …I know it will be over one day and have an eternity in total peace and joy with God forever aka ❤️ Love x x x and I’ll see my boy again forever x x x I just wish Christ would return asap so that eternal life can begin! So much sadness for all who suffer in this life 💔

I inform everyone that I know. Who is or will be in close proximity to me know that I suffer with PMDD. It’s such a horrible disorder. I feel like only one week out the month I feel like myself. I’ve noticed since I’m exercising regularly it helps my mood a lot. I thank God that I have such a great support system. It’s so easy to damage relationships unintentionally.

I had my surgery last Monday... I'm nervous for the weeks to come ... I cried almost all day around Thursday - Saturday ... didn't track cycle super close lately so idk I think it's the drastic dip that effects me more than the hormones themselves idk Feel a little better today... I am so sick of the ups n downs and so are my children family and friends.. Pretty sure I have a hernia from picking up my 9 month old and caring for my other children but I really had no choice :/ which really sucks ..I did my best to have coverage but I have 4 kids so yea ... Just trying to follow instructions the best I can give circumstances Post op appt next week... Wish me luck Thank you for sharing this video... I understand you so much . . I feel the same way about the time wasted etc and the damage I have done to my children that will affect them the rest of their lives from having three diff moms... Crying hysterical depressed n in bed ..,... Rage filled witch .... And then normal nice elated living stable... They haven't even had a good routine cus it changed .. pretty sure this is going to give me relief ... I hope so

Thanks for such a lovely comment, the word is definitely getting out there. I first started documenting my journey in 2017 because I kept searching online for info and someone who was talking about this but there was nothing and so little info or awareness, but now there is a whole online community of people with pmdd which is fantastic that they have one another's support. The medical community has also come a long way, I have presented at Royal College Nursing and Royal College of Psychiatry conferences and been part of developing resources to support ongoing education and learning. I am on Twitter @PeriodsPower and you would like to connect to talk about perhaps doing some education for your colleagues at work / NHS Trust. Finally good luck with the next stage in your own journey, I am so glad you got the diagnosis you needed to start to heal x

Still cyclical? I bet it's the LH. Even without ovaries your brain raises LH extremely high because your brain is still trying to tell your body to ovulate. That's what worries me and keeps me from getting my ovaries removed.

Hi Emily, Just recently come across all your videos, one in particular that has possibly given me the missing piece/answer to my Pmdd journey, journey sounds to nice so il say journey slash suffering :( I’m in the Uk and most possibly heading towards having a total hysterectomy myself, I just wondered is there a way to contact you directly for questions, advice etc? Is this a possibility? I’m under a specialist consultant but the lack of care, help and advice has been non existent to be completely honest, it would be nice, also reassuring to engage with someone who has lived and breathed this experience first hand Hope your well :) x

I’m so pleased you finally got your diagnosis and the treatment that worked for you. I have spent many years suffering with PMDD with no diagnosis, I saw an article on it about 3 years ago and felt like I was reading about myself! I approached my GP who referred me to gynaecology and after trying various contraceptive pills to try and balance my hormones I eventually went on to GNRH agonists with add back HRT which made a huge difference. After 18 months it is no longer working for me and I’m having the laparoscopic total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oopherectomy next week. I’m apprehensive because of the changes that may happen to my body but I know it’s for the best. Thank you for sharing your story, it has helped me to see that I am making the right choice and it will be a relief to be able to move on with my life at 45 years old

I feel extremely aggressive full of Rage(thats not me), Anti-Social(I dont want to talk to nobody not even my family), Isolation, Crying Spells, Suicidal, Self Harm, Binging on Food or P.I.C.A(Chalk or Sandlike Substances) Obsessive thoughts of Death & other Bad things, Extremely Fatigued, Easily Confused, Memory Problems and so forth. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy! I don't recognize the person I am on PMDD, sort of like a stranger takes over my body. Its like temporary Bi-polar disorder. So glad people are talking about this because for a long time I felt all a lone and some Doctors aren't knowledgeable about PMDD so they brush it off like its nothing. Thank You for this!

It feels so good to see someone say they deal with the EXACT symptoms you do as well. My husband always assured me this feeling will pass. It does and it’s like a cloud has moved or, a blanket has been pulled off. Wishing you the best! Thanks for sharing.

Have any of you had complications with post-partum hysterectomies? I have PMDD and am cautious of ever having kids for the likened possibility of post-partum depression. So I was thinking if I do find I want a child, have a post-partum hysterectomy. Mostly so I can show up for my child 100%. Anyone have experience with that procedure? Thanks in advance

Emily, You have kept me going through my pmdd and hysterectomy… you’ve no idea of the impact you’ve had… how can I DM you?!

Hi 🙂 Ok 2 questions that i would like to ask you are 1. Did you have migrene more often before the surgery than after the surgery? 2. You said your moods are better now. How do the symptoms affect your mood now when you still get these symptoms that you were talking about? I guess before the surgery the moods got influenced more by the symptoms. How is it now? Do the symptoms have a smaller affect on your moods? Thank you and be well

Glad you're being better. At the moment i am searching for a pmdd specialist in germany... But until now... No success. No gyn here seems to have a profession about pmdd.
