Leave everything intact before loosening the end caps. More rigid and makes it easier . Don’t use a hammer cause if you miss and hit the piston rod you’re screwed. Lefty loosey: Turning a fastener to the left loosens it Righty tighty: Turning a fastener to the right tightens

Tip, You can just unbolt one side , say the starboard and then the ram will slide out enough to do the port side. I as well lived on the edge with hanmering out a bracket. did not go , so i opted out for the one bracket seal gland replacement

It’s a nice reel. What I don’t like is that it only takes 3 full turns to screw the handle on and the screw on the handle is too thin.That’s why I got rid of it when got it new.

Just a bit of info: You don't need the specialty tool. You can use a 1/2" [6sided] Ratchet-Alan. This is info from a Merc engine mechanic near me, and I also did it. Worked fine. Edit: He also told me he has broken those tools several times. And he has yet to break an alan or bolt. :-)
