Two Things Every Truck Needs
Yeah, yeah-- you can fidget with getting the tire pressure stem in the right position. Move the truck forward, see if it reaches. Not quite enough? Do it again... all while cars whiz by you on the interstate. Just get a cigarette lighter extension cord and make it easy on yourself.

Update: Tarp Clip Fail With My Emergency Survival Shelter?

Update: Up until a few months ago I'd never even heard of tarp clips. But I have heard a lot of people complaining about the grommets ripping out of their mylar emergency survival blanket. So I figured I'd test it and see how well the tarp clips worked. Definitely warrants further testing. Have you played around with these? Good results? Bad results?

Yup. Frankly, for practical use - after decades of camping and lots of power outages thanks to my rural co-op electrical supplier - for cooking and reading, nothing beats an LED headlamp. It's simply the best way to focus a lot of light right where you need it. Haha - and this is coming from somebody who LOVES her oil lamps.
Painfully to watch

When you lift it up, can it get stuck on the stove?

I just bought this online and in doing research of setup, i came across your video. my quesiton is does it "lock" or soemthing when set up? i feel like if no lock, i feel like it would be susceptible to colapsing if too much rolling(you know you get wild kids ) or even an adult sitting on it, leans forward and rocks the opposite legs off the ground to grab something and poof collapse! thoughts?
Now made in communist china
I always camp out in my backyard first in my tents

Thanks for the review. Good advice 👍.
Kerosene lanterns are quite usable, and this video does not show them accurately. If you look at the video at the 4:15 mark you can see the lantern is putting out perfectly usable light. But as soon as he moves the lantern into the frame the camera adjusts the light balance to compensate for the bright flame and it looks like the room goes dark. Any parts of the video where the lantern is in the frame will not accurately show the light levels. My wife and I enjoy kerosene lanterns as a primary light source in the evenings. We use electric light for specific jobs, like washing dishes, but generally speaking the bright electric light is completely unnecessary for basics. We're perfectly able to even read a book by the light from a kerosene lamp. I would also like to recommend a product called "Seal All." It is a fuel proof adhesive that is very useful for sealing seams and pinholes in kerosene lantern tanks. Rinse the fount with acetone, squirt about a third of a tube of Seal All into the fount, add maybe half to one ounce of acetone to thin the Seal All, rotate the lantern until the acetone mixes with the Seal All and the mixture coats the inside thoroughly. The mixture is thick enough that it will not seep through the pinholes/cracks/seams. Then let it dry in a well ventilated place for about 8 hours or so. I generally let a lantern sit in the sun, or just let it dry overnight. The next day it will be leakproof. Clean up any spillage with acetone before it dries. I've used this method for the past 10 years on many leaky antique lanterns. I've never had an issue. It's fast, easy to clean up, and works 100% of the time.
Kirkman sells reflector shades for lanterns - for sure Dietz, probably their own brand, and I think now Feuerhand, too. They help a bit. I have a hook set high in the kitchen for my Dietz D-Lites with the Kirkman simple galvanized shade. Focuses the light downward - which makes a good bit of difference. Can cook by the light, anyway. Added - I use the Dietz D-Lites or Blizzards because they have a 7/8 wick. Also Air Pilot and Jupiter are 7/8 size wick. Don't even bother with the others unless you don't care about useable light.
Thanks for checking these out
Does the LED drawn in bugs? Just finished a weekend using a Dietz and Embury with no bugs.
Still have mine since it was issued, still use it today for backpacking and it works perfectly fine unless you are born soft lol
I am born soft.
I've got an ORC tent, same one issued to us , use it for hiking on the Appalachian trail now , its amazing, love how its completely dark with the flap closed , which was done for soldiers to sleep when they had down time say at noon in full sun . I'm 6 foot 2 and sleep in it just fine , its 97 inches long ,40 wide 32 high and weighs in at 6.5 lbs as far as storage pockets 😂those are only on civi tents ,storage in the ORC is called your pack , these aren't designed for living in it past rack time lol and its generally frowned on to have your gear all over the place in your tent so when you got to roll out you can go . I never heard an adult in my entire life though say that its too heavy to pack 😂Jesus man you'd last about 5 seconds in my club no offense, by the way if the orc is too short use the top holes to secure the poles ,theres 2 on each corner exactly to make it taller
You do realize these were built for combat troops, not for people that wanted to go glamping. It's meant to be a shelter in adverse weather. Or, for someone who just needs a place to sleep while camping
You're comparing boiling water time... but that was a lot more water on the stove! Thanks for the video 👌
YES !( only if you use smockless oils)
What a great review. Thank you.
I was thinking this was for work/laptop more than a camping or hiking backpack.
It blows my mind that so few Americans seem to have an electric kettle
Electric kettle doesn’t work when the grid is down.
@@hardcorecampinggear How often is the grid down per week for the average American?
@@iainamurrayWhy does it have to be per week? It’s for emergency preparedness and camping. How often does your house burn down yet you still buy fire insurance right?
@@hardcorecampinggear I’m not talking about preparedness or camping. You mentioned that your wife was using a stove top kettle and how few AirBnB have a way of heating water and I observed (not disparagingly) that seemingly very few Americans have/use electric kettles, which I find unusual given it’s a daily essential in a UK kitchen. In fact, our national grid keeps an eye on things like advert breaks during televised public events so they can ramp up production ready for the surge in need as people go and put the kettle on during the break.
@@iainamurray Most American homes use a stovetop kettle, whether they have an electric stove top or a gas stove top. My wife has a dedicated plugin electric kettle because it heats water faster than a kettle on the stovetop. The device in the video is for emergency use or camping. When Hurricane Ian hit in Florida we were without power for 5 days. Some in Northport were without power for 3-4 weeks.
Thats a daypack where i come from. I take enough for a day for me and myself. And possibly an overnight. And thats a big ass jug. 40 oz.
Probably know by now how to open it up but you gotta do it upside down from the way you were doing it so legs out that’s how you do it
standard? 32 oz Nalgene, buddy--that's "standard"; 40 oz? You're a camel with hydration issues and you're using this daypack for more than a day's outing-- dangerous, mi amigo.
Pros - great for combat. Cons - not designed for civilian IDIOTS!
I'm 26 with lots of low back and hip pain don't feel old saying that haha
Got mine and went in the yard and set it up, no real problems. This video did clear some things up so next time hopefully faster & better.
Phew if I only knew I had to put up a how to set up for the ORC on my channel😂 takes me 2 minutes and I'm ready to hit the rack
I always wonder why in modern times people dont think about attaching the kelly kettle on the outside of the backpack? Most backpacks have points for lashing things on the outside so the kettle doesn't have to go "in" the pack, this is something people have done for as long as people have been carrying things on their backs. I have about 15 different collapsible wood burners and except for my firbox 5" or bushbox LF i like the kelly kettle better than all of them. Boil water and start cooking on top while the water boils, hobo stove attachment allows for a great cooking option once water is hot, full on meals are easily accomplished with the bare minimum of fuel being used. The KK also works well with a trangia spirit burner if a person wants, the chimney pulls the flame straight up like with wood. Length of sticks can be a factor like you pointed out, not so much at the beginning but after the fire is started shorter is better, long ones at the beginning of the fire burn up quick. I think i will head out now for a tea by the river
I would not fault the bag for not fitting more after you put ALL that stuff in there. You basically put a tent in there.
5:14 I can see why your wife does all of the cooking
What kind of tent is that
I think the real question is what were YOU thinking. One of many reviews I've read that reveal that the buyer didn't know enough about the match-up between their needs and what the product offered. The more you explained about the bag, the more I liked it, and the clearer it was that it didn't meet your needs at all. Thanks for the thorough presentation, it was very informative, and given that I'm not planning to carry anywhere near as much gear in my application, I'm comfortable it would suit me just fine.
I'm guessing the 32oz nalgene bottles 99% of people hike with fit perfect in that pouch
For outdoors I love my Coleman gas lantern . Battery powered LED lights never last long at at all be for they dim and the batteries are dead.
Yes, Coleman lanterns are great. A bit putzy, but tons of light.
Any one has tips how to not make the 3 panels separate as i am sleepin on it? I put it direclty on my smooth bamboo tiles floorin. It keeps sliding also always mid sleep
The whole purposes of these is to help in troubled times, off grid etc. Tge whole concept and build, is great idea.. good tool to have .
thats the pathfinder bottles fault not the bag , lmao, its not a military pack
FYI, your link to your website no longer works.
Is the vomit smell a feature or a bug?
After all it is a low profile keep out of sight military shelter. For soldiers toget there head down. Out of the elements. The wind and rain. Better than a bivy bag
i managed to run one of these off a alcohol stove horrible experience
Great video, you are helping me narrow down my choices. We have a Nemo Aurora Highrise tent. t has a 90" width so we are go to go for the Teton xxl. Do you know if the pivot arm makes this cot easier to put together? Also one thing I did notice as you stretched out on the cot. Was the fact that it swayed back and forth. The motion was from head to foot and back again. The reason I ask is I have lower back issues which cause me to toss and turn at night. Will that be an issue?
I'd like to see a new review of the new version currently out.
It's a travel backpack not a camping one. It's called continental, I assumed, as in you are being a tourist in Europe.
I've always thought it was a 25 lbs tank as well but it's only 15 I just looked it up
I have a extreme cold weather sleeping bag type 2 and its big asf and i have yet to test it
I had one of those. Big green one?
@@hardcorecampinggear yeah, kinda like an olive color
@@hardcorecampinggear although more darker idk
Thanks for the video, here in Canada I went with the KK trekker which is their smallest offering for the solo outdoorsman. The deciding factors for me were stainless steel (I couldn't find a SS ghillie kettle) and the cost for what I got, I went with the full trekker package that included a tiny pot with lid/pan and a pot gripper, tiny grill about a hamburger patty size, the hobo stove attachment, the dual purpose pot stand that doubles as a fire pan holder keeping it lifted off the ground if your not using it on top of the kettle to utilize the flames and a coffee cup with silicone lip guard. Everything with the exception of the pot stand nests together for storage, I'll probably never use the cooking grate for its intended purpose it'll get repurposed. The hobo attachment they have (it can be seen in the one picture you showed) is actually a pretty good idea, you pop the kettle off and place it on top of your fire base and it sits raised up almost two inches higher than the fire bowl and has fingers going out that act as a flat surface that will hold a pan or pot no problem while still allowing air to be pulled through and the ability to keep feeding wood in while you cook. The kettle has a green silicone stopper with a whistle incorporated into it which illuminates the danger of people forgetting to pull the cork out. The pot and lid can be useful for cooking to a degree but I'll likely use them as a holder for dehydrated soup mix I make with a ranger band holding them together. I haven't owned a ghillie, the KK is my first of this type of system I'd have to agree with you, they're both good systems
Sound reasoning. I bought the full kit when I got my KK. I think it's the same as yours, just with a bigger kettle. I hadn't thought about the Stainless Steel difference when I ordered the Ghille Kettle. In retrospect, I probably should have gone with that.
I enjoyed your content. But anyone that begs for likes and subscribes… nah.
I enjoy your liberal interpretation of the word "beg".
@@hardcorecampinggear It’s the underlying motive. And you’re welcome.
