Stacked defense?!?! Did you watch their games?!?! USC's defense was TRASH that season. Yes, they had some soon to be rising stars at linebacker, but they were all young and learning the job. Texas scoring 41 on them is no shocker. Their defense nearly cost them 3 games. ASU, Notre Dame, and Fresno State. They were lucky Dwayne Jerrett was tackled on the 4'th down play. If Notre Dame lets him score which they should've done, it would've been over a minute and 1:20 left with Notre Dame having all 3 timeouts, and Notre Dame would've been the team that scored with 3 seconds left. Even Matt Leinart said in an interview with Julian Edleman. "Good thing they hawked Dwayne Jerrett, because they probably would've went down and scored on us"

I knew after the Arizoba game this team was special. They absolutely crushed Arizona and I believe the coach was fired a week or two later.

LSU was sick that year. They got up on FL early, but slept with the rest of the game and got beat. Interestingly, Chris Leake and FL would be National Champions themselves a few years later.
