I’m Elaine and I’m an oil painter, graphite+charcoal drawer, and lover of traditional artwork :)
How to ACTUALLY Improve Your Drawings
Today we’re talking about value and contrast in art, and how I was able to master both of those concepts to draw realistically.
This is my very first official art lesson, I hope this can be helpful to any artists who are in the process of mastering charcoal and/or graphite drawings!
p.s all animations in this video were hand drawn by me in Procreate :,)
materials in using in this video:
charcoal pencil: General's Charcoal Pencil - Black, 2B
graphite pencil: Graphgear 500
eraser: Tombow MonoZero Eraser Round
paper: Strathmore Smooth Bristol Paper
iPad 13 + Procreate for animations and supplements :)
TIMESTAMPS:

Art Promo II

The art promo that 2019 me dreamt of (sort of). A gimbal would’ve made this a lot better but finished it in a rush. This is me painting a gorgeous gorgeous girl, oil on paper.
Thank you Elaine 🩵.
No prob I hope it was helpful!!

Yess thank you so much!! 🥹
Omg! I was just on the hunt for other artubers here and found you! Your drawing skills are just as good as your editing skills that's crazy! I'm following you now, hope to see more in the future ☺
Ahh thank you so much!! 🤍 That means a lot to me. I also love finding fellow artubers, your channel is great!!
Next time instead of an altoids tin, try to use a credit card angled at 45º :) btw your content its gooooood, and you are super talented!
I’ll definitely try that! A credit card does seem a lot more gentle than the tin haha. Thank you so much for the tip and support, it means a lot! 💛
A very beautiful tutorial 👍👍👍
Thank you!! I hope it helped :))
Thx for the video
No prob!
Underrated! 🙌🏻
Aw thanks haha I’m glad you enjoyed!! 🫶🏻
woah!
ARTIST QUEEN POSTED AGAIN 🦟🕺🦟‼️‼️‼️‼️
Loved the video ! Very well explained and the editing is perfect !! Made me want to pick up a pencil again :)
Thank you so much for the kind words!! You absolutely should get back into drawing! It’s not always easy but it’s so so so rewarding 🥹
How many times did i say “value scale” 😵💫

Your work is amazing! Love how you’re transparent throughout the process of making your work as well lol. God bless you 🙏🏽
Aw thank you so much!! I try to be as open as possible with all the small pitfalls throughout the process, it’s definitely a journey haha :) God bless and thanks for checking out my work!
you kinda made me start to lear how to draw fr. Thanks!! All your work is just 🤌🤌
You're pretty good at this drawing lark.
It's brilliant. Don't be too hard on yourself.
Aw thank you!!

YESSSS thank you!!! 🥹❤️🔥
absolutely adore this
thank u!! 💕
Fantastic drawing! And yes, great point about crediting photographers properly. It’s a whole skill set that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Thank you so much!!
This made my day❤
Thanks TheToe69 ☺️🤝
THIS IS SO GOODDD!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
THE TRANSFORMATION
I had to hold me breath for a little while there 😅
Why did i say “Henry the fat ass” 😭 And I don’t know the guy’s name
this is so reminiscent of old techniques, it's beautiful! I'd love to learn to paint like this. old/"outdated" styles of art bring me so much comfort. nice job, dude!
Ahh thank you so much!! Baroque art style is one of my favorites, it feels so warm and rich. I love it very much 😌🤝
Beautiful ❤❤ First
Thank uuu!
You're too hard on yourself. 99% of people on the planet couldn't paint that portrait a quarter as good as that.
Only 433 likes ur art deserves 1M likes
Oh my gosh thank you!!
HOLA!!! This is Ofc. Wells from EPPD. Your father & I worked together in K-9. GREAT STUFF!!! I enjoyed the video & will be following you. KEEP PRESSING ON!!!
This absolutely made my day!! And my dad’s! Thank you so much for the support, that means so much to me 🥹💪🏼
Nice forehead cam, and that bugger looked like a Picasso. Great work, you should visit the many museums in my country.
Better than anything I ever painted.
Subscribed btw 👍.
Thank so you much!!
@laneydreams You are welcome. I'm serious though, it's very inspirational to visit the museums here in the Netherlands 🇳🇱. I visited Het Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam with school trips a few times and privately as well. Went to the house he was born in 1606 in the city of Leiden. But we have many more masters and museums and their houses. I recommend het Rijksmuseum and het Mauritshuis, don't forget to go to the van Gogh museum as well. Anyway,...great looking painting 👍.
*paints a masterpiece* “It’s okay.” 🙄😂artists…
good work !
Thank you!!
I honestly feel like colour picking on the ipad probably messed you up more, I've tried it and the colours were very inaccurate. The struggle is real trying to get accurate colours on a device.
Yess I totally agree!! I would have been better off without the iPad, I just need to train my brain to understand colors haha
Nice painting
Thank you so much!!!
Rembrandt copied other painters his study of art. He used pre-camera techniques to paint his famous work, so cheating is nothing new. This piece allowed you to show the world you’re a really excellent artist and it worked.
That’s very interesting! I’m gonna have to look into how the old masters achieved their level of excellence and learn. Thank you so much!!
As a non artist i firstly thought it was water thinkenned up 😅😅😅
It's so pretty 😍
Thank you!!
PSA to new artist, this is not a good way to apply varnish. It can make the painting bleed and it is bad for it long term. Get a brush, lightly dip it in varnish then apply coat. Don’t dump it all over the painting
That’s valid! This is my first time varnishing so I did it the way I’ve seen other artist pour it. It did indeed bleed when I did this, thanks for the tip!
@ it wasn’t supposed to be an attack towards you, plenty of artists do dump it and but I think it’s more for dramatic effect. This is an amazing painting by the way.❤️❤️
@@toast-i5dnoooo I didn’t take it that way! 😌 I always appreciate constructive criticism and I’m still learning a bunch about oil painting. Thank you for the encouragement!
PLS EXPLAIN HOW DOD THE BLUE TURN BLACKKK
colour theory
+the paint is/looks wetter
Yess the varnish I’m using is high gloss and makes the colors darker/more vibrant, and the finish consistent!
How is this not viral?!?!? ❤
looks like something that could got on the cover of a penguin black classics
Ooo that’s such a compliment, thank you!!
❤
OIL PAINTING QUEEN
Remarkable! More videos please!
Coming up 🫡
I also love his art style when he got older because for me it’s more comforting and warm
yess I agree!! He’s one of my all time favorites!
