Welcome to my channel!
I'm a young collector and restorer. I started collecting in 2012 at the age of 14.
My area of collecting is mostly pre-war radios, especially those made between 1934 and 1938. I am also very fond of canadian radios, Marconis in particular.
I hope you enjoy the content I add on this channel.
Thanks for tuning in!

Something a little different from what I usually collect but still cool as hell in my opinion. I love the blue display.
Shop Painting Time-Lapse
มุมมอง 1197 ปีที่แล้ว
Watch my shop go from boring to not-quite-as-boring in under three minutes! I wanted to try the time-lapse mode on iOS and this seemed like the perfect excuse. I was used some leftover paint from another project. I'm happy with the results as it only took a couple hours and about zero dollars. At least the shop will be a little healthier.
1937 Marconi 117 | Bench Testing
มุมมอง 3099 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is my 1937 Marconi model 117, a radio I wanted desperately and finally managed to find in July 2015 with the precious help of a friend. This is a video of it playing back in August, the chassis is mostly recapped (and resistors tested) and I am in the process of cleaning it up. It needs it badly.
1938 Marconi 139 DIAL
มุมมอง 2109 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a brief demonstration of the illumination on the dial of the 1938 Marconi 139. I bought this radio recently and while I do not plan on restoring it soon, I could not wait to see the dial illumination. The rectifier tube was pulled before this test so that only the filaments and dial lamps would light up, in order to protect the radio from failures along the high voltage paths.
1937 Midwest 14-37A
มุมมอง 5889 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my Midwest 14-37A 14 tube chassis which I bought in Kutztown in May 2015. I have been working on it lately, substituting the missing field coil speaker with a permanent magnet unit. I am almost done recapping it and I'm working out some quirks. This is one strong player, and it sounds so good! I still don't know what I'm going to use for a cabinet, since it is missing its original. I wi...

This needs some adjustment and one new belt, but I thought you guys could enjoy this. These are fascinating pieces of 1930s american engineering history. The chassis there is from my 1938 Zenith 9S262.

Here's a little final video of the 40-180's restoration. The cabinet remains untouched, I did only the electronics. My customer picked the radio up a few minutes after I shot this video, and it is now serving its purpose in its home. I changed the cracked rubber wiring, all the paper capacitors, the electrolytic capacitors, the bad resistors, cleaned contacts and tube sockets, added an iPod inp...

1938 radios play 2015 news
มุมมอง 2419 ปีที่แล้ว
I love listening to the news on my radios before going to school. I think that's what makes them sound the best, and that's what they were made for : informing people, like an open door to the modern world. I am broadcasting the FM stations I receive on my iPod with my AMT3000 AM transmitter. The radios playing are a 1938 Zenith 9S263 and a 1938 Marconi 138.
Playing an iPod through the 1941 Stromberg-Carlson 935-M
มุมมอง 2559 ปีที่แล้ว
It has been a while since I have worked on this radio but I thought I would post this video, shot earlier this year. The iPod is connected to the radio with the original phono input, a mono RCA jack. I made this little box that converts the iPod's stereo output to mono signal and offers minimal protection for the iPod from the radio. Thank you for watching,
My Kit-Cat Clock

Just thought I'd share a short video of my Kit-Cat clock, a nice battery powered unit made by California Clocks. It is a reproduction of the original AC powered units that first came out in the 1930s.
1936 Marconi 85 Antique Radio | Upcoming Restoration?

Another Marconi adventure! I cannot have enough of these. This is my second unit of this particular model. Tons of crumbled rubber wires, bad caps, suspicious replacement resistors, cadmium oxyde an more. Sounds promising.

Beautiful radio!
It looks and sounds very good.
I got a marconi model 339 left out in the rain for many years it's still works with some struggle, the capacitors need to be changed
Awesome radio!
masterpiece. I fell in love with it!!!
Very nice video, than you for posting it.
Yes, a great song for this video and demo on the radio ! What a great radio.
Wow. I have one. Have not tried it yet..at all. Besides a light bulb online, any other advice? Btw what was that searching about? And the dial changing?!?
MIDWEST
Beautiful radio!
Hello
Parece pertenecer a alguien de el juego de Xbox360 "Bioshock"
I have a Canadian Marconi Model 84 from the 1936/7 model years. Quite a beauty.
Beautiful!
Awesome!
Never seen a dial like that. Very impressive.
Looks really nice.
I really need to get to fixing the 9S262 sitting on the other end of this room...where it has sat for over 20 years waiting for me to get to it. I think I'm inspired to get it going. Thanks!
Very nice!
Where is the restoration video on this model ?
Whoever gave this a thumbs down should seek counseling.
These were discontinued in 1994, 26 years ago!
It's interesting that they were in production for that many years as they were first introduced in the 1930's.
@@alvenhchanne They were only replaced when Franz found they could make them cheaper with electronic parts and sell them for more. You cant even get parts from them any more, so they basically force you to buy new
Do you know what year this model was released? I was just given one like this with the light on top.
@@Chris________ The model design hasnt really changed, the only real change came when they went electronic, so sometime between 1930 and 1994 is about as close as it gets to dating them.
I can hardly believe that this vintage beauty is still fully functional. That's crazy.
Cause they made stuff to last
Been restored!
@@SuperWoodyboy awesome!
Very cool old early ‘70’s vintage Sony! I love the brushed aluminum trim and the compact size. I’m going to buy one on eBay I think and wanted to see if someone had done a demo and/or review? Thankfully I found your post here on TH-cam! I wish it had more bass as well, but I expected as much from this era. I’m also going to add a Bluetooth capabilities, and bring it up 2020. Thanks very much for sharing!
The art of radio!
I'm only 47 years old, but I've always loved these old-fashioned devices, especially these old console radios. My late grandmother used to tell me that I'm an old soul because I prefer devices from her youth rather than my own time.
Hi Felix, Do you still have this radio? contact me on akedenyer@gmail.com please. I need one for parts. I am restoring a Westinghouse 165.
This was used by observers to send messages to the gunners using the 'A' set which had a range of up to 15 miles. It was also used to communicate from forward positions to base, often many miles behind.. The 'B' set only had a range of 1000 yards and was used for vehicle to vehicle comms
That did it ! I "need" one...😀
If you consider the 1980s models to be (NOT)
Had one like this at home. No TV but could you ever use your imagination by listening to the likes of "The Shadow" and "The Lone Ranger"
Some of those old radio shows were absolutely terrifying, because you could not see the monster.
I'll subscribe to you if you tell me the name of this song.
Very beautiful radio, do you have the schematic of this radio? I have the deluxe version, and I would like to give it a new life, it is quite preserved, but it does not tune anything.
haha ... nice music
la radio zeni es la misma RCA
they are neat radios
Motorized tuning? How cool.
If you really did start shooting this video before 6AM I give you credit :) Nice little unit.
Just purchased one of these restored. Wonderful console. Do you recommend I have backups of all the tubes?
Wanna sell it?
Yes, get tube backups just in case one fails, and tube replacements are cheap
no ampico here !
I happen to have one off these and it is in a shop hopefully being repaired., It stopped working a few years back. I thought it was a 12s-265 and had a schematic for that, totally different. I just found one for the 9s-263 online and ordered it.for the shop. .
That warmed your shop up very nicely!
Nice work. That would have been the first thing I would have done as well...........PAINT THAT WALL. Nothing like giving it less a prison cell look instead a work zone where a person does his thing.
What kind of light bulb does it need? Please tell me the voltage and diameter.
I bought the exact same radio few years ago, and I never knew it had a light bulb until I saw your video.
Do you know where I can find a schematic for this radio? I am just starting to restore one that I found in a thrift store in Vancouver.
+Terence Lowe Are you sure it's this exact model? I have good scans of the schematic I can send to you if you give me your email. :-)
The 60/120/180 Hz hum makes me feel warm. I grew up in the tube age in a very cold place, and I remember coming inside after playing or doing chores on the farm and turning on the big radio to help warm up the room. I can't recall the brand or the model of that radio, but I do remember that it had a record cutter in the top which my mother sometimes used to record her music and voice. Tape recorders were available when I was a child, but they were hideously expensive; little did we know that, someday, we would be able to record the equivalent of millions of 78 rpm records and/or many thousands of 7" reel-to-reel tapes on what is, essentially, a piece of sand smaller than a fingernail. Progress? I suppose, but I still like hearing just the tiniest bit of A.C. hum in the background.
Sounds Great. What model number is your amp? I have the same amp...I'm trying to find more information about it.
+Jamie Hunter I've tried to find it without success. :/
Looks like the AF-501 or AF-502. Schematic available on radio museum.org. I just brought home one today from a thrift store.
I'm looking for one of these - no luck so far. Any suggestions?
Very Nice! I'm about to start on my first restoration project, a 42-280 that will also get new capacitors, wiring, and will have the speaker sent out for rebuilding. Would you mind sharing what method you used for adding the iPod input?
It's coming along nicely. The speaker looks to be in great shape too, BTW - what size is it? Best, Don
+RestoreOldRadios Thanks Don! this is a 12" speaker. I work mostly on consoles, as you've probably observed. :-)
+Félix-Antoine Gravel Wish I had room for a few consoles myself. Keep up the great job preserving them. Best, Don
