Porsche 991.2 six month review, using as a daily driver.
Best daily supercar?? Long term 911 Turbo S Review
I've owned this Porsche 911 991.2 Turbo S now for six month and in that time I've driven 6,000km (3,700 miles) and here is my honest review, the good the bad and the ugly. UPDATE is was 7,000km, my bad.
Spoiler, there isn't much 'ugly', this has turned out to be an amazing all round car, but I will talk about my favourite things I've found with the car using it every day, and the things that frustrate me somewhat.
UPDATE: Thanks to viewers I've now found where the setting is to auto lock the car and it works perfectly. Also a top tip was given on fixing the cup holder from swinging by simply closing the centre flap after extending the cup holders, also works well. I'd love to know how to change the 30 minute stay away after locking on the USB power / CarPlay system though so if anyone has done that through perhaps programming the car let me know!
Here is what I talk about:
2:20 Interior physical buttons, is this Peek Porsche?
2:53 Comparing this with the 992 GT3 Touring - why have more than 1 Porsche?
5:20 Last 3 months touring the South Island of New Zealand, Tekapo, Pukaki, Oamaru
7:07 More on the physical buttons, the tactile nature and the UI / UX , and that petrol cap! 👍
8:58 Carbon ceramic brakes 👍
9:40 4WD cars 👍
10:03 Visibility and reversing camera 👍
10:29 Turn key vs the very latest Porsche push button start 👍
11:07 Flappy paddels. 👎
12:00 Rain sensors in VW cars 👍
12:20 Maximum AC 👍
12:44 Auto headlight dipping 👍
13:38 Cup holders 👍
14:39 Road noise 👎
15:40 Creaky noise in back from sway bars or suspension 👎
16:15 VW navigation, use CarPlay instead 👎
16:37 Bose sound system 👎
17:40 Door locks 👍 (updated I've found out how to make this work now!)
18:30 Sports suspension and tracking cars 🏎️
19:03 Entertainment system no forward and backward track on wheel. 👎
19:48 Temperature setting in car 👍 (update I've found how to make this work now!)
20:15 Entertainment system takes 30 minutes to shut off car WIFI. 👎

      What’s frustrating you about it being a daily ? For me it’s probably just the huge fuel consumption 😂 I do have an electric mini I sometimes use for fun (although my daughter usually uses it). This was one thing I did like about the Audi Etron GT - free energy (power is free at night on my plan so it cost nothing to run).

    Has a 991.1 S Manual, now 2023 gt4 Manual. Cupholder, just get a small 12inch square towel and drape it over the swing arm that will also prevent condensation and spills from landing on you auto button on the climate control i just a microfiber one to look ok lol also be super careful with the passenger one its easy to clip with your knee getting in the car so always retract it when a passenger was using it and tell them to be careful with it. Auto door lock is a setting just read the manual. Sport suspension is super harsh in all porsches I never use mine either likely not even on track although haven't been on track with either cars. Climate control should follow the key fob again read the manual but it may be hit the key button on the door to learn your key but yea read the manual, I've never had this problem except in a Macan loaner that did some weird stuff but I didn't care enough to mess with it much and I didn't read the manual, lol

      Good call - I have Michelin Pilot sports on all my other cars and love them. Porsche put 4 new factory approved tires on when I got the car not because the old ones were worn (they had only done 8000km) but because they were 4 y old and to give a factory warranty the tyres need to be less than 4y old. I won’t take long to wear them down tho :) I’m wanting to put some miles on this car and enjoy it !

    Your right this is peak Porsche, I had the 991.2 Turbo S, GT silver, traded in for 992 turbo s without test driving because I assumed latest is greatest, and I can tell you 991.2 is peak. 992 is larger in a horrible way, you lose confidence compared to 991.2 in placing the car. The digital dash feels soo unnecessary and completely loses the tactility and quality of prior generations, way more plastics and completely unnecessary gadgets to compensate, like retractable door handles 😂 are you kidding me, the most unnecessary additions of weight and complexity

    • @9and3
      @9and3 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great to have this confirmed - I’ve only driven a 992 C4S and a GT3 Touring but when I get back into my 991.2 I just love the feel of everything in the cabin, takes me back to classic porsche just enough to remind me of the heritage and history with the simple tried and tested layout. Oh and I got to the bottom of the creaking noise - was the back seats rubbing and not correctly adjusted - nothing major so I’m happy again :) This car always puts a smile on my face when I get inside , I find myself just sitting in it in the garage sometimes for no reason at all!

    • @shaunonig1979
      @shaunonig1979 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@9and3 I think this 991.2, particularly Touring and Turbo S will become really collectable in the future as the last great porsches, we're also seeing now carmakers not focusing on speed but leaning towards user experience as an average EV can now blow the doors of top sportscars, and exotic cars will go back to tactility (see the new Bugatti) but it will be hard with current regs

    I have owned a 2014 991.1 Turbo S since new and also see the 991 as the peak 911 generation. Essentially, the best combination of performance and tactile-ness / analog driver’s instrumentation and controls. I did switch out the multi-function steering wheel for an alcantara sport wheel + steering column stalk to simplify it all further. Agree with you 100% on the overall assessment of the car and the 991 generation. I own a few other 911 models of the 991 gen and love each one. Specifically regarding the Turbo S, I, like you, have very few minor complaints, and the car has proven bulletproof over 55,000 miles driven. I am not a fan of the direction Porsche is taking with the 992’s - menu driven touch screens, elimination of analog instruments, cheaper feeling compromised interiors, etc. Not a favorable trade-off for a bit more power. The 991 gen Turbo S already drives like the wind, and I would never consider trading it.

    Great video. I was looking at ordering a new one but you have to have bought 10 Taycans in order to get the privilege of handing them $300,000 to purchase one. The alternative is to buy a recent year model that was bought buy a speculator that abused it for 6 to 12 months and then flipped it back to the dealer that sells the used car with several hundred miles on it for $30-50k over msrp. So, maybe you have the right approach- go find a well treated, 1 owner, low mile specimen that’s a few years old. Good luck with your health and best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery!

I also appreciate the smaller/lighter exterior compared to the 992. This is the first time in my young life that I’m not chasing the newer model. I ordered mine w/o sunroof too. You seem to have a very similar taste in cars to me. You have an amazing collection. Tom Hartley agrees with you regarding the 488 vs 911 Turbo S. With what you’re putting out it can’t be that long before your videos get big numbers. My £40,000-£65,000 budget has an R8 and a 911 at the top of the list so I’ll check your videos on those. Iistwning to interviews with Carl Hartley, he said the 911 Turbo was boring, it does the same thing every time your drive it, Ferrari on the other hand is an experience, has more passion and you feel engaged. The 911’s a great car but it doesn’t surprise you, you don’t need any real skill, the car does it all for you. Odd I think headlights are stunning on my 991.2 turbo s. Much brighter on the road than the lazer matrix lights on my previous Audi rs7 c8. When I’m out in mine which I’ve only had 3 weeks I get people pulling up alongside filming or thumbs up. Maybe in Uk people more into 911s

      We have a lot of 911's in NZ to be fair, they are pretty common, and I guess liked - you just dont attract anywhere near the attention you do in say an R8 or a Ferrari. The matrix lights in the e-tron GT were pretty spectacular, today driving into my garage in the dark the 911 actually failed to dip at oncoming cars several times which I never found in the Audi. Its still pretty dam good, I'm nit picking on small details here!

    Regarding the suspension, the active “brains” can be upgraded easily via DSC controller that plugs straight it. Makes big difference to compliance, especially with good geo. Will be noticeable on less than perfect road surfaces, especially when using sport settings which opens up a different aspect of the car.

    • @9and3

      wow thats really good to know. Is this an aftermarket software / hardware solution? where do you get it from?

    • @TobyD
      @TobyD 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For some reason my previous reply didn’t save. Maybe because I added link. Company is called DSC Sport. They make plug-and-play devices for many Porsche models and other makes. Very popular. I’ve put these in multiple of my cars same time as having geo done properly by someone that knows what they are doing, to make sure everything is pointing in right direction for your driving style, now with better compliance too. This will give optimum suspension for this very powerful car. Match this with good tyres for your needs (eg Michelin vs Pirelli). Surprising how many people drive with old or mismatched tyres (also looking at date stamps).

      My 2018 991.2 remembers the temp. It's done that since I bought it new. I have gone through two sets of pilot sport 4s and I think the road noise is fine for such a wide tire. Mine also does the ert ert noise when it adjusts the suspension. The dealer called that normal. Interestingly, I only notice it when it's stationary and I'm getting in or out, not when I'm driving. I agree on the brakes, they are fantastic. It has more understeer than I would like, but the stability control does a really good job when you need it. The four-wheel steering is great for low speed turning radius, but it can be frustrating trying to back it up and it is steering the rear wheels. Don't completely fill the windshield washer reservoir. It will puke on the lower front fender and door with spirited driving if you do. I have asked the dealership if there's any updates on the firmware for the Porsche and they claim there's been none.

      It’s a bit annoying that the driver needs to actively press two buttons every time they want to save one of the many car settings to the key. When I got mine I couldn’t work out why so many things reset every time I got back into the car. Other cars have auto saved whenever a setting was changed. Porsche obviously decided it should be physical action. It’s the same on other Porsche models like my previous 997. Drove me mad until I realised! Now I’m used to it, so it’s fine. regarding auto locking - at least on the .1 there is a setting in the circular dash screen for various auto-lock settings. I have mine set to lock when I start the car so you may want to poke around in there. If you cant find it just respond and I'll go look at mine and figure out how I did it. same with setting the temperature when you start it.. you have to save it to your key profile (again on the .1 it's on the drivers door panel and the button has a 'key' icon on it). When you save it, it will store your seat position, mirrors, dash display setting and temperature settings. You can also have it auto-save however you left everything each time you turn the car off, that's another related setting in the dash circular display.
