Night in the Woods is one of very few rare games that I love so much without knowing a ton of reasons why apart from writing and design, which come easier than the things you explained so well and so emotionally resonant. i relate a lot to mae. im around her age now living at home with my parents after the better part of 3 years of living independently, and its an odd feeling to be back out in the country, around my parents every day again. but things just didnt work out, and im just gonna have to use this chance to start again

Dr hill is an awful doctor

So, here is my theory after having watched the video read the comments: Aunt Grace and Fran's mom were both Dr. Oswald's experiment subjects (and not the only ones - for whatever reason he was obsessed with twins and has been conjucting experiments on them throught his whole career). While Grace basically worshiped Dr. Oswald and was ready to do whatever terrible things he asked her (I suppose it was not that difficult for her, because in the final chapter we can have a glimpse at her real self which is manipulative psychopath who can pretend to be a nice person when she needs it but actually has zero empathy for people. Thus, she did not care much neither about her sister nor about her niece Fran who liked her a lot. You kinda can see these traits in the coinjoined twins, by the way, hm… ), her sister just wanted to live her life with her husband and daughter like most of the people do and forget about the whole experiment they went through when they were young. Probably the only reason while Dr. Oswald let one of the twins go live her life is that he wanted to conjuct an experiment on his subject's child. And the sister really bore a child so they just needed to waits till she was old enough. Maybe the other sister tried to convience Fran's mom to give Fran to Oswald on her own will but she refused but I really doubt it. If my sis was a double-faced psycho who is devoted to a sick doctor who used to unethically experiment on both of us years ago and probably had money and some influence showed any sight that that doc is interested in my daughter I would definately sold the house asap and moved as far as possible from that place for the sake of the family's safety. So, Aunt Grace probably just pretended that she actually liked the little girl and that is why Fran's mom did not mind them spending some time together from time to time. Plus, it was needed for Aunt Grace to get Fran's trust. On the day of the tragedy Grace visited Fran and her family one more time. It is not clear why but i suppose she sedated Fran's mom and dad (and maybe gave Fran some too but less to prevent her from getting in their way) so they were feeble and could not fight back when she returned to finish them. Moreover, I am sure that Grace was not the only one who took part in the murder - Dr. Oswald was there as well, he was the figure that scared Fran in the window. Probably he took a peek in the window to check on and slightly sedated and anxious Fran mistook him for a monster in the dark. Of course Oswald being a physco he was probably did not want the corpses of Fran's parents go to waste and that is why they did not just kill them but carefully sliced them - maybe he was hoping to see something there? Obviously he could not do it himself so Grace was the one who did this. Obviously slicing people is not fast so despite of Fran's telling her side of the story in the beggining of the game and making it sound like everything happened fast, it should have taken the murderes a while, so between Fran seeing a figure in the window and going to her parents' room to check on them some time passed. Probably the girl was sedated but not enough and she felt asleep after seeing the figure and woke up later on. In the final chapter we see the evil Fran with a knife near the bodies but in reality I am sure it was Aunt Grace she saw (it was just easier for Fran to at first forget she saw anyone in the room and than replace Aunt Grace with the Evil Fran and take all the blame than to accept that her aunt so brutaly killed her parents). She tried to run away, however, she was still sudated so she did not manage ro run away far and Grace and Oswald found her and brought her to the hospital. Oswald paid money so Fran was claimed to be dead because he never wanted her to leave the madhouse. Another doctor ( I do not remember his name) was probably just a guy doing his job. He seemed like a bad person in the begining or the game, however, it is clear to me that the fluffy creature in the plants realm was him and he was kind to Fran. Maybe Oswald or Grace told him that Fran was a manipulative liar and he had to be streng with her and did not believe any single thing she said, which he did because he trusted them. But even so Oswald was unhappy with Fran having witnessed Grace and maybe him as well so he secretly from the normal doc changed the original medicine with the experimental one to make Fran's mind a complete mess so noone could ever find out the truth among her hallucinations and fantasies. Fran tried to escape once but was taken back and put into vegetative state by a high dose of a different drug (that is why that world does not look like anything we have seen before and nothing bad happens at first). But she could not be in that state forever so they lowered the amount of medicine and in the fantasy world Fran could move again. However, soon after the scary things return as well. Maybe it was just her trauma or maybe Oswald gave her that experimental drug again fearing Fran could get better and tell someone the truth. And he kinda was right because the normal doctor seemed to understan that Fran is not the evil child Oswald or Grace portraited but a traumatized but innocent child and things she shared during their sessions when she saw him as the fluffy monster made him suspect that something is sinister is going in the hospital and despite of Fran's madness she was the only one who told him the truth even though her mind twisted it and he decided to investigate. I do not think that Fran could escape twice and she and doc could meet near her house by accident, so I suppose that the doc secretly took Fran with him out of the hospital and the imaginary friend was him as well. She saw him as a friend trying to bring her back home but after a while she fainted and the illusion was gone. Then they drived to the graveyard but at the time Oswald noticed that the doc and Fran were absent. He, Grace and maybe some other loyal workers went after them and found them. Fran was heavily sedated, the doc became a test subject. In the end Fran attacked Grace, got shot by Oswald who did not mind her death any more considering that because of her he had to make one of his workers a test subject and he had been close to getting caught a few times. Fran dies. The doc's fate is unkonwn but probably died. Maybe he died even before Fran considering him sitting on the electric chair and the blood flowing out of his eyesockets in the end of the game. Sorry for typos and mistakes, i am not a native English speaker and too tired to double-check and to fix what i have written

i will always say that play the game and focusing on Gregg or Bea in one run and going to the other in a second one is the best way to experience this game both of their stories are beautiful in how we deal with growing up and breaking away nostalgia that holds us in a place where we can’t see what’s ahead I even think Gregg’s story while sillier is still profound in how his relationship w Angus is shaping him; he’s realizing how his behaviors have to change in a developing world be a better boyfriend, be a better person, be a better Gregg Bea is seeing how maturing should have room for your true self; that you can have that with another person going through it, that Mae and Bea can live their lives together to have a better life and friendship one based in reality and finding it funny to exist in it can you tell i love this game AGH

No way. I literally JUST rewatched this game playthrough...

There is NO way Fran killed her parents, they were in the same room, there is no way two fully grown adults could not stop an 11 years old girl, in the scene she is stabbing her father it means her mother died first probably, even if one of them was incapacitated the father could easily tackle Fran with ease, and the factor that they were sliced up with surgical laser precision (even if Fran was imagining it) is so impossible to be performed by a kid, also Fran did it with a kitchen knife, if anyone can cut through bone especially the femur with an average kitchen knife, it's a huge performance, but for an 11 years old girl to do all of that, that would take loooong hours, and by that someone would notice, after all she was found in the forest by her aunt and Oswald the same night. Fran killing her parents is physically and logically impossible.
