Rocinante vs Zmeya (Space Battle) — The Expanse Season 5 Episode 7
The Rocinante, in pursuit of the Zmeya carrying the last remaining sample of the protomolecule, fends off a barrage of missiles and lands a critical railgun hit. This is probably the most PDC action we've seen in the entire series so far!

Ending scene of 5x04. Marco claims responsibility for his bombardment of Earth, as the rest of the system watches. Full speech: "My name is Marco Inaros. I am the commander of the Free Navy. We are the military arm and voice of the outer planets, and we are the ones responsible for striking our oppressors on Earth and Mars. This attack was retribution for generations of atrocities committed by ...

I'm uploading this clip because the only other uploads of this clip I've found have either had choppy frames or mono sound. And seeing as this is a very pivotal scene in the series that people will no doubt want to rewatch (in all its glory), I thought I'd just upload it myself. There's no such thing as "range" in space when dealing with kinetic ballistics. Those gatling guns could have opened up as soon as they were reasonably confident they could have put them in the path of those missiles
“It’s the hippocampus”
I think its time to re-watch The Expanse
0:50 that's a good trick
It’s actually terrifying how many people see him as a hero! He’s not a hero! He’s a narcissistic meglomaniac with dilutions of grandeur! Every achievement is his alone and every failure belongs to someone else! He claims to be a voice for belters but will just a quickly kill/abandon them the moment it suits his needs! He stole supplies all over the belt and hid them for his own use, he stripped ceres station and set bombs on the docks, he shows absolutely no remorse or sadness for the deaths of even his own free navy fighters even when his actions directly led to it! He’s a monster through and through
So thrilled to see the "Canterbury" (family surname) in the very first episode! I called my wife, "Hey babe! Get in here, there's a ship named..." BOOM. GD it. :D
are all men around her so small, or is she so tall?
How convenient
The general public does not understand the destruction possible with "relativistic speeds"
Even having watch this already, it still feels so hard and tense, every second all ending with the final hit. This is peak sci fi.
I forgot just how terrible this Nancy actor was
I find this scene, as epic as it is, hard to believe. Modern day Air Force One is capable of withstanding a thermonuclear nuclear blast of multiple megatons but UN One (created a few hundred years in the future) Can’t withstand a meteor striking what looks to be a 1,000 or more miles away? I don’t believe it. Yes you can make the argument that “it’s a tv show.” but my counter to that is the fact that The Expanse has been commended and prided itself on being accurate to real life physics as much as possible throughout every season.
Her voice is not easy to follow
i love her raspy voice
I loved that show, and Avasarala was my number one only Amos came close to her as in performance and character
Normalize not putting spoilers in the fucking title, yeah?
That first woman sounds like she has spent forty-five years drinking the cheapest Bulgarian homebrew and smoking Gauloises with every meal.
FREE PALESTINE!
That powerful scene right there, cemented the Canadian artist Keon Alexander as one of the greatest actors alive in my book. The way he played that scene was masterful. It's best Enjoyed With Headphones or earbuds because then you really can feel the depth the score adds to the scene. Together with the post production sound mixing and scoring with those edited cuts between the seasons principle characters while he's reading it... Goosebumps! I could just watch that single moment of that season anytime I want to feel inspired or emotionally energized. It all worked. The right actor, the right dialogue, the right editing and sound mixing. It all worked. I just absolutely love this scene. Marco Inaros was a man of the people, not afraid to die for his people, or kill for his people. Damn near killed earth with that rock attack. Since it would be increasingly hard to show onscreen the billions killed in the novel, the writers killed off millions instead, including some surprising deaths like new UN President Nancy Gau on UN One. That one still haunts me. Special thanks to Radio Free Slow Zone TH-cam Channel for also posting the transcript of his speech. Dope!
If they hadn’t ignored her, there might still have been a little time
this type of attack is exactly why the idea of aliens landing on earth to invade it as absurd, if they can travel interstellar distances, they can stop at the Kuiper belt, push on a few dozen comets and wait for the impact and we would be powerless to stop or survive it. but that isn't so fun for science fiction to write.
Aww, its a movie scene, and here I was getting my hopes up!
I just realized that the blue torpedo doesn't go dark, you can see it flip and burn away from the battle and see the same thing happen on the roci's sensors.
PDC's was the thickest plot armor the expanse could offer
So sad this show got canceled :(
Season 5 is a little hit and miss, but this episode is possibly the best hour of television of that whole year.
The absolutely stupidest thing (and don't get me wrong, I love The Expanse) is finger activation. It's mind-numbingly stupid. It would never be like this, because at high Gs, you ain't moving much. It would be voice/eye HUD stuff (and we even have this today, so you know it would be even better in this case). And since you are probably going to have difficulties voicing at high Gs, eye activation would most likely be the goto.
One thing I find interesting is how UN One still seems to be a high-subsonic aircraft flying at altitudes that we would fly airliners today. This is despite that this would be an era where hypersonic near space/suborbital flights might be common, especially when fusion reactors are so ubiquitous that anybody with a high enough income can actually own a personal rocket that can go straight to the moon. From the design of the airframe, UN One might not actually be an aircraft that can go beyond the speed of sound that quickly and might have to gradually accelerate as they climb. This also gives the opportunity for the occupants to walk around and do work especially in the middle of a crisis where millions have just been wiped out. And even if they ramp up the engines with afterburners, the shockwave from a meteorite strike travels way faster than the speed of sound and they were extremely close to ground zero. They did simply did not have enough time to flee. Still an intense scene and it showed Nancy Gao going out as a hero, thrusting Avasarala back into a position of power.
I envy people who will watch this show for the first time.
Ah yes, the classic "lets suprise attack a superpower in such a way its impossible to ignore, but does not cripple their ability to fight."
Such an awesome show. A true testament to SciFi.
Bad writing. That was painful to watch.
You are so wrong it’s funnt
When someone important tells you to Sxxx the f up and semi panicking, you probably need to give it a thought or two on how urgent on the scale it is.
I miss this show. So much left there
BRING BACK ALEX!
Greatest Sci-fi series EVER.
"Evasive manoeuvres" - does a barrel roll.
Keon Alexander really brought it with his performance of Marco Inaros. He understood the assignment!
"why would inaros throw a rock into the middle of the indian ocean?" Oh. Thats why
That was an amazing show.
This battle looks stupid (missiles didnt try to accelerate into Rocinante) untill you find out about one blue missile
well as you allude the entire battle wasn't supposed to let the zmeya win. it was so that the protomolecule could get to marco.
"mr president, the second rock has hit the earth"
Actually, just seeing the thermal pulse from that asteroid strike would have blinded them all. Still, excellent series that did its best to adhere to real physics.
Hollywood: Pay attention. This is how you write powerful women.
I mean what are the odds your flying over the spot that gets hit by a rock.
I just realized the actress sounded alot like Ada Wong in the RE 2023 remaster, and did a quick google search. Definitely her.
Amazon could have saved a lot of embarrassment and saved a billion dollars by not canceling the expanse to make Rings of Power
whats the name of that soundtrack please???
I love the music. It's somehow conveys the utter sadness and complete inevitability of what happened
3:45 notice the moon the background. Such an eerie sight.
