2024 CHITNA FISHWHEEL
I took a little road trip out to a fish wheel operation on the Copper River.
Caught alot of sockeye salmon, bug bites, and will most likely smell like fish for a week, plus.
Did you know the premise of an automatic fish catcher wheel thing is like 10,000 years old? Amazing!
Big thanks to my hunting buddy for the invite, and to The Fallen Outdoors AK Team, for all they do. If you would like to know more about this stellar team, click the link below for information.

Sometimes I can't believe what a wonderful place Alaska is to live in. The scenery is stunning, and the harvests are always good.
Cheers,

2024 ADV BIKE ROAD TRIP
มุมมอง 153หลายเดือนก่อน
Needed a break from a bad case of the norms. Bought a 2023 Suzuki VStrom 800 DE, last winter, and had the dealership in Grand Junction hold it for me until I was ready to make the road trip in July. An equally awesome opportunity to see some family that I had been estranged from for 30 years. Tears were shed on both the road trip, and the family reunion. My route took me from GJ, up into Wyomin...

Had to take a break from the hustle and bustle of wiring a CNC machine, for a little bit. Here we explore a vintage Rockwell drill press, and get it ship-shape for some occasional drilling. Also, a blerb about the air compressor, and some shots of the folding chop saw bench.

Getting some wiring done on parts that have arrived from Centroid. Two steps forward, three steps back. It is slow going, mainly because I have never done this before, and I don't want to mess up expensive parts. This video is more of a "what's sidetrack up to now" deal. Not an actual tutorial on installing and wiring up a retrofit kit. I am not a professional, and I will take no responsibility...

I fix the busted power-feed unit on my "new to me" Bridgeport mill. There were issues with the parts supplied with the kit, so some adaptering was needed. I chose to go with an import, because the price could not be beat, and at the recommendation of others. Hopefully it works out. Thanks for watching.

Out with the old, and in with the new to me! The CNC portion of this old mill is busted. I am exploring options for a retrofit kit, to bring it back to current standards. There is alot of work ahead inside the cabinet, to make it back into a robot. For now, it works as a manual machine, except for the automatic oiler. Bonus footage of a little part I made for my old car.

Steptoe Shaper Table Feed Rehab

So, there I was, puttering about the shop, cutting some parts for the old G&E shaper, when I noticed that the feed mechanism on the Steptoe was wobbling badly when rotating. Howdy Folks! Bunch of shaper action in this installment of Sidetrack Metalworks TH-cam. This is brilliant and reminds me of a conversation, between two engineers, I overheard back in the early 90's. They were talking about a drip waste oil heater that employed a water drip aswell. The trick was getting the oil and water drip ratios just right. As I remember it, there was a sloped metal plate that had been previously heated (perhaps electrically) that the drips went onto. They spoke of it as a suppressed technology. They were both very capable and experienced engineers. Thanks for reminding me!

I know this is pretty old video but is some good stuff. I'll add a little more info i've been able to track down in case someone is looking (like I was). There is already a torch start pin available on the board on the J10 header right behind where you were working - J10-8 is for Start and J10-5 & J10-6 are common so shorting those 2 should give you torch start. There's also some additional stuff available - on pins J10-1 and J10-3 appears to be an OK-TO-MOVE signal and then I believe you can get raw tip volts from the board by measuring across the lugs Work 1 and Electrode.
