    No shooting teacher is able to position the camera in such a way as to film the impact. It must be mounted in such a way that we only see the precious person of the shooter simulating a shot without knowing if he hit the target or not

    I realize this video is 8 years old. My comment is for people purchasing the M2 in 2023. You no longer get the case or 5 choke tubes. Mine came with a paper box and 3 choke tubes. The shotgun has been redesigned for 2023. Still a great shotgun but the stock is redesigned and the follower is different. Other than that, pretty much the same shotgun. Still a great buy. I purchased a set of Carlson's extended choke tubes for mine that pattern very nicely.

  • @olegig5166
    @olegig5166 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your correct, when buying an expense shotgun you should get everything you need. The Benellis are truly well made shotguns; however they are lacking in a couple areas which in my opinion should be noted to inform the first time buyer. 1. Benelli does not offer the few shims needed for neutral cast. They generally come with cast off for right handers and can be changed to cast on for lefties. If your left handed and your kids are right handed, someone's out of luck. Go buy a Stoeger. 2. Because of Benelli's effort to mitigate recoil, generally the stock cannot be shortened. So if your under 5'10" your limited to the youth models.

    • @michaelpayne6131
      @michaelpayne6131 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are valid observations. Since I am right handed, I never noticed the lack of neutral cast shim. The LOP is adjusted by replacing the snap on gel pad (which is the case with most shotgun models). However, my LOP is slightly shorter than the short pad would allow and the short pad was more abusive on my small frame daughter. I ended up cutting the stock and installed a nice thick, grind to fit kick-ezz pad. I was a bit intimidated by the job at first, but it wasn't difficult at all and a fun Sat project, during a snow storm. I took my time and did a nice professional job. Turned out looking very nice too.

      @@michaelpayne6131 wish you had made a video of the process of shortening the LOP, I would very much enjoy. You must have done a great job since you are happy with it. Nothing like making a son, daughter, or grandkid happy. I'm very interested in how the new pad is attached to the stock.

    Just bought my first Benelli, a M2. Dropped around $1,400 on it. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to spend another $300+ to make it run like my $900 940 Mossberg or trade it for another 940 and more cleaning fluid.

      @user-no9qb6lj7c ปีที่แล้ว

      Does it not run ?

    • @olegig5166
      @olegig5166 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-no9qb6lj7c yes, it runs, in fact after one drops another $200-$300 installing all the needed aftermarket improvements, it finally runs like a $1,400 gun should out of the box. I'm a lefty, my grandkids are all righties, Benelli does not offer the few shims needed for neutral cast. My recommendation to any gas gun user who might want to experience an inertia gun would be go Stoeger, at least after your middle trigger hand finger is black and blue you'll have half the dollar regrets.

    • @michaelpayne6131
      @michaelpayne6131 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@olegig5166 Glad you got it sorted out. No auto loading scattergun is perfect. They all have to deal with a massive variation in ammunition, shooter induced variables, purposes and conditions. While Benellis are wonderfully designed and manufactured, they are no exception. The benefits of inertia are long lasting, lighter weight, balance and easier to keep clean. The trade off is that inertia guns have narrower operating parameters and sharper recoil, in a world of ever increasing expectations. My M2 has had a couple of small quirks to deal with over the years, but they pale in comparison to the horror stories I witnessed from other brands. My 1100, Gold Hunter and 940 all had to be kept meticulously clean to function. All three were heavy and imbalanced. The Rem and Browning would both stop functioning after 100rds and my 940 was less reliable than a maserati in rain. My Versamax was super cool with the twin piston set up, and so violent, it shot itself apart in less than 1000rds and the heat treating on high wear parts was so bad, I was replacing trigger components in less than 2000rds. Most of us have "a buddy who" story. 940 guys always have a buddy with a reliable gat. Well I have a buddy with an old M1 S90 with over 70k rounds through it. At this point, the only other autoloader brand I will consider spending my money on is Beretta.

    • @olegig5166
      @olegig5166 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelpayne6131 you are spot on correct. The modern shotgun is truly one of the most complicated firearms available. We ask them to do everything from A to Z with all kinds of loads. I have owned a 12 & 20 ga Browning 2000's for 40 yrs., no problem with either; however they have only been used for upland game hunting. If goose or sandhills were on the agenda several old long barrel pumps were used for the heavier loads and different choked barrels. Today 3 gunners will put more pressure on an auto shotgun in a month than we did in 10 yrs. And I'm not surprised that dedicated trap/skeet shooters lean toward the simple but strong break over guns. Yet today we take one mechanism with an IC choke and shoot light loads then change chokes and ask that same mechanism to operate under extreme pressures from 3 or 3 1/2" loads. It's like tuning the family car for drag racing and expect it to last forever. My main complaint today is not the quality of various shotguns, but the honesty in their reviews. It's like Jerry Mic........ praising the 940 and telling about using all the paper towels he could find in the hotel to clean it every night between events. I do appreciate your honesty.

    • @michaelpayne6131
      @michaelpayne6131 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@olegig5166 Yep, and... most of the brands have experienced gradual evolution and performance improvements. Mossberg has gradually improved the 940 reliability. They are much better now than when I had mine. Benelli drastically improved their guns with the release of the Ethos and SBE3. Beretta had problems with the first gen 1301's and now they are considered amongst the best performing shotguns on the market. If the 940 blows your hair back, it fits you well and you hit stuff with it, then you will have a better shooting experience and that's the name of the game.

I'll make this simple; Stogeter, Bennelli and Franchi is owned by Berretta. They all use the Inetria drive bolt, w/gas piston. The all use the Bennelli Twist action the bolt. Many Stoeger's models used to use Berretta barrels. stoeger has a barrel extension that has helps to secure the barrel and helps to prevent wear from usage. I have two stoegers; M3k Freedom w/ the 10R mag & and the Stoeger P3000. I have every intentions that my daughter shoulders the M3020

    I enjoyed your video and I respect your experience as a competitor and hunter. I grew up shooting shotguns A LOT and still shoot them now. As an enthusiast, I’m curious as to your statement about the cross-bolt safety location being “where Americans like it.” Are those of us who shoot Mossbergs, Browning BPSs, Stevens M67s etc… Are we less American for having a top tang safety? 😆 I’d also like to know if a rotary bolt has ever been proven to outlast a reciprocating bolt. That would be an awesome test. For what it’s worth, I like Benelli and Beretta shotguns just as well and I’m pretty sure the dollar / value for the Stoeger is on point. They seem to be gaining popularity.

    • @michaelpayne6131
      @michaelpayne6131 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most pump and auto loading shotgunners like the safety to be behind the trigger, so that your grip doesn't need to be adjusted when disengaging the safety before a shot. The Super Nova safety is in front of the trigger for which I have heard many complaints over the years, due to the long reach. Cheers!
