Where are you. Been very quiet!
Which oil pan on you using on the big block?
Sorry mate I could not tell you that, its the one that came with the engine and I also dont know alot about chevys, still learning
Hey mate, i once asked a painter to do a quick spray job on my first car. He sprayed the car in an old tin shed with my dodgy compressor. All he did was wet the floor of the shed with a garden hose and kinked the air hose in his hand to control pressure? It was one of the best spray jobs i had seen anywhere 🤷♂️ So i dont know but anything is possible.
yeah I get it mate, I have done spray jobs in my garage before and always did the same thing, hosed off the floor etc, and the jobs came out great. This booth was the first time using it, and Im not sure I would use it again. For a start its not sucking the air out, its blowing air in
Hi Tom. Just wondering what is happening with the 57 coupe? Has been a minute since you’ve played with that and I thought you were making good progress. Understand you’ve been working on the Ford coupe and GT so just wondering is it simply a matter of time or is there something holding you up on the 57?
Hey Paul, simply time and money mate, plus I had to step in a start driving mobile cranes again full time. I hope I can get things moving again soon, appreciate your interest though!
Another suggestion for an awesome XA paint colour, Rothman's Blue or Deep Ivy. Keep up the great work!
Thanks mate !
Isnt the panhard bar supposed to be behind the diff?
They are called "link bars" in case you didn't still know.
Is there a technical reason that the astra p/s pump is not mounted in the boot? Your coupe build is blowing my mind!
Thanks Jason, The main reason I put it at the front was I decided it was much easier to run wiring than to run Hydraulic lines that long distance , plus I was told that pump would be more efficient the closer it was to the steering rack ( but not sure how true that would be
Wires with tracers ?
I wish, couldnt find any at the time
I’ve never used one, but I would if I couldn’t afford anything better - and I can’t 😂.
Why don't you just make a bracket to lift the oil filter higher up on the chassis rail. Won't hang too low and also a better routing to the adapter.
If you want a show class finish pay a paint shop dollars! to each his trade, looks OK in the video! don't worry be happy😁
Yeah thats right, cheers mate !
Drop tank for the coupe mate👌
Yeah I agree mate cheers!
G’day again Tom, I’m looking at doing a XA after the XE I’m into now, and my favourite colour on the XA GT was Yellow Fire with the black, personally love the colour, anyway I’m sure you will sort it mate, good luck. 😊
Thanks Kim! appreciate you watching , I like the bright colors also
Look pretty good. I was thinking the same wheather its worth the investment in the booth? 13:25
Hey Geoff, maybe let me use it a few more times to offer real feedback
Put the exhaust up between the boot and the rear window like Ruffian cars in the USA did with the Galaxy and then run a full width functional diffuser out the back.
Nice effort on paint but I have yet to see anyone use the blow up booth with any success.
Nice to have some content but mate just pick one an get it done, one by one. Sure parts and fabrication can swallow up time but just one at a time would be the way; but that's just me. My colour choice for the XA 'Blaze Blue'
@@clubsportr08 Cheers mate !
Great job 😊.
@@ricardoviolanti5780 thanks !
I have done a cruise control retrofit on a De Mazda 2, which is basically a ford Feista rebadged. Lots of the bits have FoMoCo on them. In doing this I had to replace the brake pedal switch from a 2 wire to a 4 wire unit. What I discovered when doing this is that the switches have a mechanism that auto calibrates them to their position when you install them into the bracket. The 4 wire switch has one NO contact and one NC contact. So it measures when the brake pedal is both pressed and not pressed. If you were to alter the height of the pedal some how and have not removed and re inserted the pedal switches, then they won’t auto calibrate and won’t register either pressed or unpressed correctly.
@@ryanlove5332 thanks mate I will look into that
The ones used on the Mazda were just a 1/8 turn to release them from the mountings. So it’s a quick twist by hand to release them, and then re install. That should recalibrate the switches to the pedal positions.
2nd colour Green its appropriate ,not the last green Please no
The dust could of be inside the actual booth structure
thanks Danial, could be right
G’day mate, I am one who suggested the “Inflatable Pain Booth” having seen same on a yank Vidio. But noticed there was a blue blower duct at 4:21/13:25 on the far side of the tent you did not put a lower on? Did you need more air movement to stop trash, just sayin!😂😢😅
Yeah there is a vent there, but i only had 2 blowers , one to hold the booth up and one for airflow. I chose to use the one putting airflow into the booth at the top, the one at the bottom could be used i guess if you had a 3rd blower, but it would just be blowing along the bottom of one side of the booth. What I need is to put an extraction fan up the front where the filter windows are i think
@@phatridesgarage3760G’day again Tom, If you are interested the two TH-cams that I was referring to way back were by “Samcrac” I Bought an INFLATABLE Paint Spray Booth from China! Samcrac • 3.8M views • 5 years ago, He did two vidios Painting Porsche 911 Bumpers in the Inflatable Paint Booth WITHOUT a Compressor! Cheers from another Mustang Coyote 5.0 owner and a V6 Capri.😃🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘
Cheers Brian I think I saw those videos also
Booth doesn't seem like a bad idea, but every booth i have ever seen, even the home made ones, sucks air out instead of blowing it in. Wouldn't be surprised if that duct was blowing crap in your paint, even though it has a filter. If you could figure out a way to reverse the airflow it might work better as long as it doesn't pull the walls in too much.
I will get an extraction fan setup for the outlet next time, and also be more careful on prep and tac rag etc
Turned out ok, but like others saying, spray suit, tack rag, and try not to go in and out to many times, as you keep bringing rubbish in with ya, apart from that, gotta start somewhere, enjoyed 🍻🍻🇦🇺🇳🇿🤝🇳🇿🇳🇿👌👍🦘🦘🏔🌨
@@MetalMania3DTV-TAS-AUS thanks KC
Hi Tom the coupe coming up nicely keep up with the good work with the fuel tank talk to Bain Racing at Penrith he specialises with Falcon tanks they do a top job on their work
Ok thanks alot mate !
With all your electrics / loom mods, maybe you need to talk about CAN comms and correct termination with your friendly auto electrician? Best of luck with it.
Hi Tom, love the content, keep up the good work mate. Just throwing a thought out there, perhaps do a only production of the phase 4 tribute Calypso Green - white interior, Bathurst globes with aquajet redwalls, possibly add a Golde sunroof 👌
Hi Ben, yeah sounds nice !
Looks like it turned out fine a little cut and buff and it'll be great thumbs up👍👍
@@leonardgilbreath9004 cheers mate !
I think for your first go Tom it has turned out pretty good It may have been sucking stuff in from the air pump did that have a filter on the intake I spray in my shed a few times a year and always get little bits in the paint and between clear or solid colour The visibility get diminished real quick you do need a strong suck out system Howard astil has a very good video showing how he built his filter system and before I do my next paint job I will be building something similar Also I find I have been using Protec for about 20 years now and it’s now ppg I’m using and with mixing I aways put a splash more thinners , not quite 10% and I find it always goes on real nice and lays down real nice with minimal orange peal but you do have oto be careful of runs And the paint is a three part system wet on wet usually primer base and clear well that’s how I do it But I still think it turns out pretty good 👍👍
Thanks David, yeah the booth has a filter on the inlet as well and the outlet. I think i will get an extraction fan setup for the outlet next time, and also be more careful on prep and tac rag etc
great trial run , wax a grease wipe on wipe off with clean lint free rags , good though blow , then wax a grease 2 X more, ,, new filters always need some time running to get the loose fibers out 2 Hr.s then ready for use , Good outcome for first time ,👍👍
Thanks alot Shane !
Did you tack rag the car before paint. I also use a filter in the spray pot and maybe you needed to filter the incoming air to the booth. I have wondered myself how good these inflatable booths are and with some tweeking it could be fine the the odd job. Love ya work and ya vids.
didnt tac rag it no, will do it next time, cheers mate
That was a good practice run for the future . You are always going have to cut and buff . Have look at how home built by Jeff made his filters for his home made booth . His first booth was a gazebo then built a room for the second edition.
Thanks mate !
The crap could be over spray that was hanging around in the booth that falls back onto the car. I sprayed my bonnet in a closed shed and it felt like sand paper afterwards. good job thou. Keep up the good work.
Great point Adrian
2 vids in 1 week. Awesome. Cut & Buff no problem. I painted my sister's XB Fairmont Hardtop in a $200 Bunnings Gazebo.
Thanks Rhett!

Calypso green would be my choice Tom Pity about the rent would be great if you can find a cheaper place
Yeah love that color too mate, Cheers David
Even the best booths have crap in them, cut it back and buff it’ll be fine
yeah should be Sam
Looks like half a chance, weigh up the cost, if it needs cutting and buffing maybe the booth put you back a couple of grand?
Yeah about 2k Jim, thats fine better than having paint going everywhere in the workshop
Don't be too hard on yourself mate, the main thing is you got in and done it yourself, did you use a tack cloth, did you tack off your masked up area's with air?
Na no tack cloth ) just wiped down and blown off, but it was only really the bonnet that got the major crap in it the rest was same as you would normally expect, so maybe it blew some stuff up from around the cowl
Well done Tom i presume you will paint the fords in it too, so money well spent and its portable
Yeah thanks Russell still better than nothing i reackon
U would be amazed how much crap comes off ur clothes….buy a cheap throwaway spray suit for $25
yeah i didnt think of that
@@phatridesgarage3760 and if y buy a good quality suit you will get a few uses from it I usually get about ten paint jobs before the zips bust
will try one next time
Absolutely correct Thommo, agree 💯 per cent 👌👍🦘🇦🇺🍻
even high end paint booths you still get some rubbish in the paint no system is perfect we spray in the shed and when we sand it and buff most of the rubbish is gone
Thanks mate, I thought that may be the case but wasnt sure
Maybe have done the old wet the floor down to trap the dust that’s not made it to filter
I love the coupe just wondering what paint you used? Thinking of painting my car same colour
Thanks mate, the Color is called Tropic Gold, and I think PPG was the paint used
One of the greens for a colour
Have you put a diagnostic tool on it and just clear all faults and then try to start it. I have seen that happen on Matt Armstrong’s vehicle it would not crank they put a diagnostic on it cleared all the faults, reset everything and then it crank.
Will try that thanks mate , just need to decide on the right scanner
I prefer the metallic colours but all great just keep it a original XAGT colour … wild violet or cosmic blue gets my vote, can’t wait for these paint vids
Thanks mate !
Purple gives that tuff aggressive look being a deeper colour
I agree
I’d be checking the pins on those bulkhead Deutsche plugs. If the pins aren’t locked in right they can push back and not engage properly. Hope it’s something simple like that 👍
hey mate , yeah it was doing the same thing before i even made those bulkhead joints, so it isnt that , but appreciate the suggestion
Hey Tom good to see you back I have a suggestion for you why not get your self a scanning tool and scan your coupe for faults low or no voltage over a long period of time will confuse sensors into telling the computers the wrong information causing a myriad of faults stopping the car from firing up may be worth a try
Thanks alot for that mate, could you recommend any particular type of scanner for that car?
Kawasaki Green 💚 sweet episode nice to see a video Tom, enjoy your weekend 🍻🍻🇦🇺🇦🇺🇳🇿🤝🇳🇿🇳🇿🦘🦘🌨🌨🏔🏔
