Three Rail Conversion of Hornby Railways R. 374 Battle of Britain Class Loco
A brief video to show how I went about adding tender pickups to the Hornby Railways light pacific loco 'Spitfire', which dates from the early 1980s, so that it will run on Hornby Dublo 3 rail track.

Steventon Causeway Level Crossing 03 August 2022

This is my first attempt at a level crossing video. Not specially good, but I was inspired to have a go by other TH-camrs. The videos made by Faberoony90 are particularly good so check out his channel. Also check out Pendon Museum's channel as the models they make are truly awesome. There's not a lot of variation in motive power as the passenger trains are all Class 800s.

Two to Three Rail Conversions

This video shows some Triang Transcontinental models running on Hornby Dublo three rail track. There are also some Wrenn and Hornby Dublo two rail locos and some later two rail models produced during the Hornby Railways period. I also show how I have done the conversions. I haven't so far been able to find out if any of the 'Castle' class locos were ever painted in the experimental blue livery,...

More Overhead Catenary on Hornby Dublo Layout
มุมมอง 2.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I've mended the pantograph on my Triang Steeple Cab loco. It will pull half a dozen wagons OK. The catenary wire is 1.2mm piano wire which was quite difficult to fit the masts as it's very tough and springy. It looks better for real than it does in the video. The Steeple Cab loco never sold very well, I have a feeling that Rovex wanted a cheap loco to encourage more people to buy overhead caten...
Running a Triang EM2 on Hornby Dublo layout

This video is just to show a Triang EM2 'Electra' using Triang overhead catenary on my vintage Hornby Dublo three rail layout. I have fitted power bogies at both ends as the body moulding allows this. It should now be possible to run two trains at the same time on one track, using the same principle as Trix Twin.

Vintage Hornby Dublo Layout

Here are a few views of my vintage Hornby Dublo Layout. The layout is built on a standard board size, 8ft x 4ft, with an extra 7in on the short side, making the total size 8ft x 4ft 7in. I changed the layout during filming to remove the reversing loop and install the turntable, which isn't very realisitic in operation!

I got out some old three rail Hornby Dublo and thought it would be nice to make a vintage layout. This is just some track laid on the floor to try things out after a good clean and a drop of oil. The track as laid out is the outer oval of a layout published in a Hornby Dublo track plan booklet and I wanted to check that it will fit on a full size sheet of plywood 8ft x 4ft.
Castle Class

This video shows an old Hornby Dublo GWR Castle Class locomotive. I repainted it and renumbered it to 5011 Tintagel Castle many years ago when my layout had an 'Arthurian' theme to it. Tune: Draper - Üttingen manuscript, 1754. This tune was mentioned to me by the director of music at our local church and is one of the Vicar's favourites. It's used at our patronal festival and makes an alternative to St. Catherine's Court, which is the more usual tune, I've also uploaded a video of this here: th-cam.com/video/3HBfjur0lyo/w-d-xo.html

These shots on my layout mostly feature my mate's 7 2 HST set in First Great Western Dynamic Lines livery. There are also some shots of a rake of Bachmann maroon coaches that I've fitted lights to, hauled as a heritage train by a Hornby Class 67. The sequence ends with a few 'night time' shots.

A few short video clips of the Bachmann Midland Pullman repainted in the Western Region blue and grey livery very nicely by a modelling mate of mine. It's a bit of a compromise as it's just the original six vehicle set rather than the eight vehicle set with a second class section.

Hi had good morning love the way you have converted you two rail locos to run on the hornby dublo three rail track I would like to covert a hornby dublo two rail R1 to three rail like the one on your layout could I see the bottom of your R l I have the hornby dublo three rail Skids pick ups already Many thanks Colin.

Hi Colin, what I did with the R1 was to replace the base plate with one that I made from copper clad board which I attached to the chassis making sure that the screws didn't contact the metal of the new base plate. I then soldered some strips of phosphor bronze to it and connected it to one side of the motor. If you look at the underside of the Triang double ended diesel in the video, you need to make a skate something like that. It might be possible to use an original Hornby Dublo skate if you can work out how to attach it to the chassis while keeping it electrically insulated, but there's no factory provision for that as the R1 was only ever designed as a two rail model. For best results you need to make a pick up, or try the conductive paint option, to electrically connect the insulated wheels to the track. Good luck!

Very interesting. I’m wondering whether it would be possible to take the wire from the two rail pick up and run it to one of the poles of a double pole single throw switch. The other pole of the switch would be wired to the centre rail pick up. In theory this should enable me to switch my locos from 2 to 3 rail running so I can run them on both my layouts. Does it feasible to you?

Hi Gerard, glad you like the layout. I've got one example (but not all the variants) of every Hornby Dublo three rail loco, apart from the AL1 overhead catenary electric loco. The R1 was only made for two rail operation, but I did convert one to three rail and it runs OK. I probably just wasn't running the diesel shunter when I made the video.

I wanted to know why don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so they extend the new abandoned underground stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into six cars per units and also having three Accessible Toilets on that six cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXC, Gardner 6LXB and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers? A Stock Train and also having 8 DisaAccessiblelets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it bigger and extend it to bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Train tunnel into a High-Speed train? The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Train line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 37 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project that is OK for London Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden Easily. Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly line and also build a brand-new underground train station so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street and also make another brand new tunnel train station in Chingford and could they extend the DLR? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Six carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and they can order Every 17 Octagon and Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique minor no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 117MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 117MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 16 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 16 Tonnes for all of the 117MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are Told!! And please do something about these very important Professional ideas Please Prime Minister of England, Prime Minister of Sweden, Prime Minister of Germany, Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.

It seems to run OK and it has good hauling power as you can see from the number of Hornby Dublo tank wagons it's pulling and they're quite heavy. • @skin150263

@@RailwayWorld In the case of the steeple cab loco and the EM2, I just connected the pickups together and bypassed the track/catenary switch so these locos only operate from the overhead catenary. The 9F, dating from Triang Hornby days, has a couple of tender pickups similar to the Hornby Dublo Castle and 8F, with the pickups on the driving wheels connected together. The Blue Pullman, double ended Transcontinental diesel and the DMUs have the existing pickups connected together, and I glued a small piece of copper clad board to the Paxolin panel underneath the motor bogies and then soldered a skate made from 6mm wide springy phosphor bronze strip. The only thing was that I wanted to make sure I didn't do anything that can't be undone, so that I can return them to the original two rail operation if required. I also have a Class 47 and Class 29 that date from Hornby Railways days. I have made a skate for these, the Class 47 has pick ups for both rails on the dummy bogie end and so was fairly easy, but the Class 29 needed a wheel swap in order to make it connect to both of the running rails.
