That is the problem with ivory ferrules. They crack from age. Ivory tusks while still on the elephant also crack from the same reason.
@BarnyDaddy You are correct that ivory will crack. However, the material that Cuetec uses for the Cynergy shafts is not ivory. It is a synthetic material. The reason that these ferrules crack is because the synthetic material that they use is much softer than other synthetic materials used to make ferrules nowadays. It is very rare for cue manufacturers to use real ivory for ferrules these days. Thanks for commenting.

@@jeboks777 I speed these videos up to make them shorter. It was me breathing, but at my normal pace. Thanks for commenting.
What does a ferrule do? Why can't you glue the leather tip directly to the wood?
@garyc5802 The ferrule is in place to protect the shaft from being damaged when striking the cue ball with every stroke. The phenolic resin material that the balls are made of is harder than wood. Without a ferrule, a traditional wooden shaft would be damaged quickly. Carbon fiber shafts such as this one are made of as a hollow tube that is filled with a special foam. Gluing a tip directly to it would cause the tip to be pushed into the shaft rather quickly. Thank you for commenting.

Can you fix a cuetec with a carbon fiber wrapped shaft and cracked Ferrell?
@Crawpupps I have never heard of a carbon shaft being warped. I would suggest that you reach out to Cuetec with that issue. The Cynergy shafts should have a lifetime straightness guarantee. Feel free to send me an email at maplestreetbilliards@gmail.com about any repairs that you might want done.
Do you hollow the vault plate to keep the weight down?
@@brianmurphy5280 Yes, I hollow it out in order to help keep the deflection down. From what I am hearing, I may need to keep it whole the next time I replace one of these. Thanks for commenting.
I'm puzzled a bit. Both of my Cynergy shafts have a very soft ferrule. Not uncommon on most low deflection shafts. My earliest Predator had a soft ferrule. All of them held up to breaking with no problem. Any alloy plastics will have stringing chip. It's not brittle at all. And he said it cracked twice? Near the CF nun the less. I'd like to have seen it and see if my fingernails would catch. I've installed all the common available materials. Only material I've seen to shave like that or similarly were Juma,Meucci, and delrin. I think I'll check their patent for info. I don't think a CF shaft would need different ferrule material just because it's CF. And a softer ferrule is what the big names are putting on it seems. The shaft can't be that old shoulda tried warranty I would think. But would take a while to get back. You got it done so all is good. I'd like to hear the hit.
@MrADVANCEDTEK I was able to feel the crack with my fingernail. There was also a visible shift in the material above and below the crack. The hit did not sound any different to me while trying it out after the repair. My customer has also not mentioned any difference in the sound or the hit. Thanks for commenting.
@@MapleStreetBilliards Then it's a solid repair. My Prather Pioneer shaft has a Aegis ll on it. Reason I mention this is over the years I've owned it 10+ I've taken down from 13.25mm to just under 11mm over that time. I break fairly hard with it and now for the last year the ferrule has multiple cracks. I've played Ivory like that and waiting for it to pop off lol. My theory is that at less than 2mm the Aegis ll is too brittle. That's why it cracked. This makes sense cause I've never seen a plastic alloy or phenolic linen ferrule on a snooker cue. If you make shafts like I do you might not know this yet. Ten years on a personal shaft. I've talked to a few cue builders here and they knew right away with a few good stories. Figured I'd pass it on. With so many new materials out now I have to keep a detailed log from now on. Well if you're interested I'll send you a picture. Right now I'm replacing a Kamui clear that separated from the clear bottom. First time seeing that.
@MrADVANCEDTEK I appreciate the insight. Thank you very much.
Hi Question about Outsville Tips.. I ordered a K-Tech soft from pool dawgs website and it looked treated like the one in your video. Then I go and order a K-Tech medium directly from Outsville website but it was a brown color that looked exactly like a Triangle tip. Do you know the if this is correct or was I given the wrong K-Tech product , and what should they actually look like?
@DiaWithMaliyah Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the Ki-Tech tips personally. After looking around online, it appears as if they come in both colors. I would suggest reaching out to Outsville and seeing what they can tell you. I am sorry that this is not much help. Thanks for commenting, and good luck.
Very clean work sir. May I ask what size of drill bit you used to make the hole for the tenon of the ferrule? What diameter was the hole of the tenon?
@@rendevera3134Thank you very much. I used a 19/64 drill bit to make the hole. Thanks for commenting.
Is the techno dud a soft or medium tip?
@ErikGarcia-wt1su They are actually available in soft, medium, or hard on Outsville's website. Thanks for commenting.
In Denmark they use "Seconds Glue", works in a few seconds, but i use a thicker glue, i don't thrust the thin stuff, but it works faster, seconds, the thicker one is like at least an hour.
@@allancnc I agree with you. I am not a fan of fast set glues for tips. I don't even like using accelerator for the glue. In my experience, the accelerator will weaken the bond. Thanks for commenting.

Nice work ! Like your technique.
@djdommes9302 Thank you very much.
Unfortunately you weakened the ferrule with the internal tennon being hollowed. No need for hollowing it and if you do hollow it it needs to be filled with a dense foam to avoid any weird sound. Using sand paper to get it to size is not an accurate method. Notice you didn’t index the shaft in your lathe, turning the shaft I 100% guarantee you it was not DP, 5,000-8,000 off from being DP that means your ferrule was not round, but maybe to the eye but in the lathe you can see it wobbling 5,000-8,000. From a video it turned out ok and customer most likely wouldn’t know the difference but side by side with quality work and you would 100% see the difference especially if I take measurements no way that ferrule is a consistent size. You need to index your shafts and not work on them until you can index them within 1,000th of DP. I’m sorry if this may offend you but it’s the truth. Hope this helps improve your method.
@jorose95 Thanks for the advice. It is much appreciated.
hi where can i purchase the lathe and tooling like that ??? also is the lathe suitable to do 1 piece full length cues , butt and joint work ???
@taz3256 I bought most of everything that I use from Amazon. The lathe will allow you to change a tip on a full-length cue, but you have to have a way to steady the butt end. This lathe is not suitable for the butt of a cue. You can work on the joint end of a shaft, though.
What are you brushing on the tip before polishing?
@@MegaAirsoft2000 It is the Caiden Brand Liquid Shine burnishing liquid. I purchased some of it to try out a while ago. Thanks for commenting.
@@MapleStreetBilliardsthanks for sharing. Would you recommend using it?
@MegaAirsoft2000 I am pretty happy with it at the moment. I can't say that it is any better than the Tiger burnishing liquid, which is my favorite, but I can say yes, I would recommend trying it.
That razor blade technique is nerve racking for me how can I learn thru practice?
@rudys20022002 Here is the best way to practice with the razor blade or the entire tip installation process, for that matter. Use an 8" - 10" length of wooden dowel that is close in diameter to a cue shaft. A 1/2" dowel would be very close in size to a 13mm shaft. Install a ferrule on each end of the dowel. Now you have a "cue" that you can practice on, and you never have to worry about messing it up. I would suggest that you buy single layer tips like Le Pros, Elk Masters, or Triangle tips. They are cheap and great learn on. Also, make sure you are using quality razor blades. I also suggest taking your time and really fine-tuning your process before you ever put an actual shaft into your chuck. I hope this helps, and I wish you good luck. Thanks for commenting.
Awesome work as always. Looks good
Why not simply `part the tip off` and then drill and bore for the new tip.
@dinosauralan.9486 Carbon fiber shafts are hollow tubes that are filled with foam. Putting a tip on without any support behind it would eventually drive the tip into the shaft. The carbon fiber shafts don't necessarily need something as large as a typical ferrule on a wooden shaft, but they still need something to fill the end of the shaft and a hard flat surface to glue the tip to. Thanks for commenting.
Seems like you look really had to take your time with those finer grits. I do my own tips by hand. They med and hard tips come out good but those duds get really pilly when I try to burnish.
@KeithKelso-e7z I am not sure why that would happen for you. Perhaps you need more speed when burnishing. Thanks for commenting.

I just ordered a couple things from your ebay store. What tips do you recommend for practicing when learning how to install?
@davidkeller9224 Yes, sir. I just shipped those out yesterday. Thank you for your business! I would suggest buying some Le Pro tips or Elk Masters. Any one-piece leather tip will do, but I would recommend getting quality ones like those. They aren't expensive compared to most quality layered tips. You can practice on that, and you never have to worry about messing up an actual cue.

@@davidkeller9224 I am using an OXA quick change tool post from Shars. Here is the link to the one I bought on Ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/334120461883?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=EQxb9pehRie&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=DYNm-5LmQfK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Never considered how this was done but the lathe makes sense. Great craftmanship to shape the new tip!

Interesting, whats the deal with the acrylic sheet under the chuck? Just there to catch chips? or?
@@alextatkin1026 Yes, it is just a chip guard. Thanks for commenting.
Neat, good idea, I need to do that to my mini lathe
I would love to know what tool post you have and where you got the green shaft collet. I use a mid size cuesmith lathe but I really like your set up
@johnvega3791 The tool post is an OXA quick change tool post from Shars. I bought it on eBay. The collet is one of a set that I have designed and 3d printed. I actually sell them on eBay. Here is a link to my eBay store, www.ebay.com/usr/maplestreetbilliards Thanks for commenting.

What lathe is this?
@YoungSqueege It is a Vevor mini lathe. Here is a link to it on Amazon. VEVOR Mini Metal Lathe, 7"x14" Benchtop Metal Lathe, 550W Variable Speed 2250RPM Metal Lathe, with 3-jaw Chuck CNC Mini Lathe Machine, Precision Mini Lathe w/Tool Box Digital Display for Metal Turning a.co/d/eVX44VS
@@MapleStreetBilliards thanks! that’s what I thought. Did you have to do anything to be able to pass the shaft through that gear box or does it come like that stock?
@YoungSqueege It is set up with the through hole when you get it. If you want to run a shaft through it, you will need a steady rest at the other end of the shaft.
Where do you buy this center tip tool for pressing the cue tip ?

Scientific designed tips and carbon fiber shafts. All hype. If the old timers can play with le pro tips with wood shafts don't spend the extra money on fancy over hyped products. And don't buy gloves unless your Michele Jackson or Liberace
What happend to the carbon surface? Did someone tried to sand it with 80grit?😅
@@tkreiner1902 Your guess is as good as mine. Lol
@@MapleStreetBilliardsmy first edition McDermott Defy came like that, all scuffed up. I asked why, they said it was part of the process? They had sent me their new version no questions asked, that shaft was so sticky
@new2POOL208 There have been a few of these companies that were trying to put some sort of finish coating on their carbon fiber shafts when they first started making them. I am not sure why they did it. Maybe they were still trying to figure out the best way to finish them and get them to be as smooth as possible. I can tell you that the Cuetec Propel is still like that. There is some sort of finish on it rather than just smooth carbon fiber. Thanks for commenting!
Should never use the toolpost to trim the side of the tip down to size. It should be done with a sharp razor blade. The tool post tool will pull the layers apart.
I must respectfully disagree. Heat is the main cause of the layers delaminating. This can be caused by a couple of factors. First, cutting the tip too slow. If the cutting tool stays in one place for too long, then the tip will start to overheat, which is when the layers can start to pull apart. The second reason is using a dull cutting tool. A dull cutting tool will more or less rip the tip rather than cut it. This will also generate a large amount of heat and can cause delamination. I do like to use the razor after I have removed the majority for the excess tip. In my opinion, it is the best way to cut the tip to the same diameter as the shaft or ferrule. Thanks for commenting.
welke vloeistof gebruik je met het oorstokje , en welk nut heeft dit. top video
@luclambrechts3001 I use Tiger Liquid Burnisher on the qtip. I use it to seal up the sides of the tip. The liquid and heat cause the tip to seal itself and make the sides nice and shiny. Thanks for commenting.
