Forest Hill House | Dewson Architects | Toronto Custom Home Architecture
Welcome to Forest Hill House-a space where history and innovation meet in aesthetic sophistication. With deep appreciation for Toronto's architectural heritage, we embraced the challenge of restoring this century-old home while seamlessly blending in a contemporary addition. The original façade was preserved and thoughtfully enhanced with insulation and triple-glazed windows, creating an energy efficient envelope.
The new extension introduces a fresh and modern feel. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interior with natural light, while expansive overhangs provide shelter from the elements. The Green roof further elevate the design, reflecting the client’s vision of a west coast-inspired retreat. The result is a home where old and new intertwine, honouring the neighbourhood's history and the homeowner's personal story.

I suppose that the owners know the likelihood of ice jams.

Ice jams happen on flowing rivers when the path of the water is obstructed by ice. Only wave action on G Bay. Were you concerned about the docks? Winter is always fun around floating docks.

@@gregburns6636 Docks go strange places when the ice breaks up. My dock-very substantial- apparently was beamed up by Martians. We looked and looked and advertised.

Very impressive design - love the sustainable focus. Was just reading about these roof designs the other day - nice to see an example in action. Curious if there is additional cooling through reverse operation of the heat pumps or unnecessary? Great video.

The missing middle is missing for a reason. Every duplex needs 4 cars which means the front lawn is now a parking lot. Isn't it way more efficient to have all the renters in apartment buildings with underground garages for all the vehicles.

I wouldn't want to buy a detached home and then have it lose value as the house next to it is turned into a quadplex, would you like to lose 10's of thousands of dollars, I think not. And although some young people today overly romanticize the idea of living in flats above shops, there is in fact a reason we stopped doing that, in fact there are several reasons, 1) Mice, 2) Cockroaches, 3) Flies, 4) Raccoons, 5) Bad smells, 6) Unsanitary conditions at the back of all the businesses. So much easier to house people in one building and then have another nearby building be full of large box stores where we can find everything we need for an affordable price. Maybe the missing middle is actually a good thing, an efficient thing. I give it to you to consider.
