My first memory of the Scottish Rite Temple was about 62 or 63 years ago. My dad, a Master Mason, took me and my mom to a Christmas show they were putting on. I was only 4 or 5 at the time, but I do remember being in the theater/auditorium. I remember a magician performing, and found out much later he was a Mason named Overstreet. I ended up going to Ball High with one of his sons. After the show, we all went into the ball room for refreshments, and they passed out toys to the kids. I got a stamped metal stagecoach with horses that moved up and down when you ran it across the floor. It was a pretty special day for me to remember it all these years later. I attended several Rainbow Girl installations in the Egyptian room, and receptions for the new officers up in the ball room, where we mostly looked at each other from across the room instead of dancing. Years later, I received my Master Mason degree in the theater/auditorium, and attended meetings several times in the Egyptian room. I am glad to see that someone is taking care of the place, because I am not the only one with great memories of that building.

Back around '68 or '69, a few of my buddies took me out to the various forts you showed, but we didn't know the names for them. They were, in order from west to east, what we called the 1st fort, the 2nd fort and "Fort Point." Mostly it was an excuse for us to go out with our BB guns and stomp around in the "wild." We were all about 12 or 13 years old, and spent full days out in "the flats." BB gun "wars", catching rabbits, catching rattle snakes. Endless adventures! Great times! We would enter the flats from the driveway between apartments just east of Barracuda Ave. at the Ferry rd., and walk all day in the flats. We would most times end up at the end of the Seawall getting soft drinks and snacks at "Brown's" concession stand, then head back through the flats because, what fun is walking on the seawall? The last time I was out there was about 7 or so years ago, to scatter one of the guy's ashes where we had so much fun all those years ago.

@@galvestonunscripted A lot of ethnic Jews were also German nationals. Most German immigrants were Protestant, but the Port of Galveston also brought German Catholics and German Jews. Sometimes the minorities are the ones who impact the community in the most surprising ways. Galveston today would be a very different experience if only Anglo-Saxon Protestants would have been the influence. As one of the multi cultural cities in the 19th century it seems like the topic of German immigration was very homogenized. I would love to see a video about all sides of the history of Galveston from all of the people from the world who stayed and contributed to the island we love. In such a small space we have communities of Sikhs, Muslims, Romani, Baptist, Jews, Catholics, and gun toting Texans, yet they live peacefully on a sand bar. The best times I've ever had was in Galveston, where the tropical breezes and relaxed environment was conducive to meet new people and make new friends. Galveston is something special and it takes an international population to realize that it is a microcosm that needs to protected.

Charles Barkley *didn't* send me here it was just randomly in my recommends. Kinda baffles me that people asked this question. I'm originally from San Antonio and went to Port Aransas A LOT as a child. Normal gulf waters are brown/gray, and soon enough in school I learned it's cuz of the rivers dropping all that sediment. North of Galveston Island is Galveston Bay, which rivers empty into. Pete's sake lol. Yes it's technically "dirty" water cuz there's a bunch of literal dirt! ...and seaweed. Very itchy seaweed. Don't go in the waters at Corpus unless you're prepared to dodge all the jellyfish lol.
