    That bit where you explain your run in Florida and how Eggleston has this incredible ability to represent human emotions in photographs might have finally helped me figure out what it is that I love about Eggleston. The fact that he is often photographing non-human subjects makes that ability of his even more incredible. That’s truly what I aspire to do with my work. P.S. I think I’ve come back to this video 5-6 times in the past year.

    this is awesome. as time goes on it seems less and less likely but i really think theres a market for genuine videos, with a disregard for all the seo and algoritm tactics. this is honestly what i strive to do with my channel. just something that isnt performative, while im not confident calling it art, just genuine expressions of creativity. while it might take time to get the ball rolling, i think when people get a taste of something genuine they'll stay. im glad i found this video, as ive been gearing up to start releasing things ive really been thinking about this topic and the current landscape . my recommendation would be, dont disregard things like tags, thumbnails titles etc. play the game in that sense, but keep the content genuine. i think thats the key to both success and personal satisfaction

    Thanks. In France and in Spain, we have the same that you explain for USA. About point #9 (identification), the police only can require your identification if they suspect any delictive activity, but only them can judge if they can can suspect it, so... better to identify if they require so. About point #10: requiring to delete a photo from your camera is an "evidence destruction" and any policeman (or anyone) who requires this can be in a trouble cause its an offense.

    I'm a Saul Leiter admirer and have no idea what took TH-cam so long to present this video to me. You are obviously as enthralled with his work as I am. Anyone who has ever tried to create images in his style (as I have), will understand even more how great the man was. I'd love to know more about his approach; did he sit at the same hazy window for hours, waiting for the right elements to come together to create a superb photo? His style has inspired so many photographers today. Hats off to Mr Leiter, "Sir"

  • @mikem5107
    @mikem5107 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Eggleston is an enigma to me. I can't explain why his photos are good or why I like them, but I do. I often wonder what percentage of his photos did he deem worth publishing and how many ended up in a folder somewhere. Was it 1 in 10, 1 in 100, 1 in 1000? I just wonder if he got "lucky" with finding something that happened to work, or if he new he had a banger right when he saw the seen and shot the photo. The photos he took in that video of him of that falling down house were not particularly good in my mind, but the ones you showed in the slide show were so, so good. Another thought: do we like his photos more now because they are so clearly of a different era than we are in now? Are we just feeling nostalgic for a different, simpler time? Did people view his photos the same way back then as they do now? I wonder...

    I'm not sure I understand your point about thinking that the photographer developed his Kodachrome film. I have never heard of anyone doing that. Kodachrome was developed by Kodak: it was exposed and sent to Kodak - all paid for when the film was first purchased. Kodak Ektachrome could, however, be processed by the photographer, so could be pushed or pulled during processing.
