FOV Induced PVD versus non induced PVD core vitrectomy - day 4 of recovery
มุมมอง 1.9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is day 4 of the recovery after vitrectomy surgery for floaters. I am also sharing few thoughts on the argument to choose an induced Post Vitreous Detachment or not. This is a significant aspect of the vitrectomy. it is possible to leave some vitreous inside the eye, but is it a good idea or not? this is very difficult to tell and you need to take an informed decisions for yourself with the...

Anyone deal with tons of gas bubbles? They move around anywhere you look and cover the surface with what looks like hundreds or thousand even of small some clear some black bubbles? Ive been to the eye doctor so many times now and they say my eyes are healthy. I really don't know what to do it is ruining my life.
You may describe floaters... glass bubbles would join into one. Whatbsort of eye doctot did you see? You need to see a retina specialist.
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 Ive been to several good doctors in NH and a retina specialist a few months ago. I have another appointment with a different retina specialist now. Everything in my eye looks healthy just tons of tiny bubbles and some string floaters. The regular floaters don't bother me at all its the bubbles that are the problem.
Did you have a gas bubble put in your eye? Dud you have any floater residue in the beginning? Had m vitrectomy last Friday.
Yes..small gas bubble. It went away in 3 days. No residue floaters...how do you feel?
Not your fault Sir, just wanted to mention too many commercials!
Thank you for sharing. I am hoping my surgery goes well and I have no problem.
How are you doing now that it has been 3 years since your surgery? I am getting mine on 9/11/24.
Mayve you never have cataracts ❤
Wow amazing ❤
I’m 80 and have had Cataract and Vitrectomy this year (2024). I had a “wrinkled Retina” in my right eye, which I’ve had for a period of time which caused the vision in that eye to be a little distorted. I didn’t really notice it until I looked a one of the line graphs up close. The lines are a little wavy in the center of the chart. So, I had both Cataracts done, and the Vitrectomy surgery the following month. Like the man says, do your research! Find the good doctors, and you’ll be fine.
❤
I am currently 24 years old. I have been suffering from floaters since I was 19. Would there be any problems with me having surgery?
I do not know as I am not a doctor.
Hello, how are you, I have watched your videos, and I would really like to know how you are now.
I am ok. No change. One operated eye without floaters, the other one still has. But they do not bother me
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 That's great, I'm very happy to know that and I hope it continues to improve, thank you for answering. I'm watching a lot of videos where people are having surgery.
I am meeting a doctor Monday to discuss this surgery. So glad to see your eye isn't blood shot and you are happy with your results. I tried the YAG laser however with a multifocal cataract lens it's just not possible to get a good enough view into the eye to get the mess cleaned up to par.
Good luck
Did u have diabetes when u did the victrectomy
No
Nice of you to post this. I will have FOV next week!

@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 @vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 I just finished my right eye FOV the day before yesterday and I think this FOV is almost perfect. All the black, gray lines, clumps, butterflies, fog, they all disappeared, yes, incredible. Only a small transparent line was left in the left corner , which was can not see in most of the time. and It only cost me 400 USD after commercial insurance and health care, much lower than my expectations. I made an appointment with my doctor to FOV the other eye half a month later. I feel like my life is almost coming back.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. May I ask how long did it take before you could go back to work, and driving? Thanks again.
2-3 days...as i was working from home
Which states in Australia perform Vitrectomy surgery??
I am in NSW...probably there are doctors anywhere able to perfom virectomy
I am also with Vitrectomy, Where did you have your surgery and how much would it cost please let me know, any other place country does Vitrectomy surgery. thank you 14:07 😊
Australia...cannot remember the cost...say $3000
I had the vitreous removed from my right eye and had saline to replace it. Floaters are all gone.....BUT....that gave me a quick cataract. My vision turned real dark a few months after that surgery. I then had to have the cataract removed where my cataract surgeon didn't do a very good job. I think he replaced my lens with one that didn't match the left eye. When I look at an object with my left eye that is 10 feet away...the same object with my right eye that had the cataract is 5 feet away. I complained to my doctor and he said I would get used to it. Well, guess what? 5 years later and it's still the same and I can't see right. He said he can't replace the lens. Eye strain 24/7 now.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 Just last week a huge floater developed in my left eye that is VERY bothersome. Looking for a doctor to get laser surgery to remove the floater. Hard to find.
Hi, what about the elevated eye pressure which you said you had when you did surgery. How is it now?
I have elevated pressure in both eyes..one operated and one not. I will monitor it...
I had a vitrectomy due to recurring bleeding in my eye after a retinal tear. The tear could immediately be fixed with a laser treatment. However in the months following, a blood vessel next to the repaired retinal tear would rupture again and again, usually after exertion. The blood slowly cleared after the first two ruptures but no longer cleared larger blood accumulation after subsequent ruptures. So similar occlusion like in the case of floaters really disturbed my vision. The Vitrectomy cleared this up and during the operation they could laser the leaky vessel so that bleeding would not recur. However in conjunction with the vitrectomy surgery I elected to also have my natural lens replaced with a high quality Zeiss lens to avoid a second operation later for later cataract surgery. As I had already required age related reading glasses the new lens actually improved my vision in medium and far ranges, and it improved at closer range as well. So in many cases if you already need glasses and cataracts is in your future I opted to include lens replacement at the same time as lens replacement would improve my vision even before cataracts developed. As I will likely later need cataract surgery in the other eye in the future a near sighted lens replacement in this eye can then free me from needing reading or driving glasses in the future. so I wouldn’t say that having cataract surgery reduces your current vision it can actually improve it quite substantially with proper high-quality lens selection. I’ve spoken to many people many who have had lens replacements which significantly improved their vision such that many no longer required glasses thereafter.
So u don't have any floaters now?
@@SeraSan- no floaters, just other 2 other unwelcome surprises. Mainly due to the retina becoming wrinkled (macular pucker) which resulted in horizontal and vertical lines looking wavy. Only solution is a second vitrectomy where they peel the retinal membrane off to relieve the the tension that caused the puckering. Can’t really say that the macular pucker was caused by the vitrectomy surgery but it may have accelerated the issue.
Gee man, get to the story.
Thank you
I'll have it in a couple of weeks for an injury, and have the fluid full of blood and can't see because of this. Technically, why vitrectomy will have, as a side effect, a good healthy cataract to do not be good anymore, after some time?
I’m ver glad this went well for you. Are you in the US? If so, is there a particular Doctor you recommend?
I have been using low dose atropine for my floaters…it’s been ok, but not a cure.
I disagree about optometrists; good ones care and have good knowledge about eye health in general. I agree with you about laser vitreolysis, as with you, after three sessions, it did not work at all for me. Worse, the dummy wound up putting a hole in my natural lens. A PVD (Posterior Vitreous Detachment) several years ago left me with severe floaters. As I watch your video, I am also one day past vitrectomy and lens replacement. It’s a bit painful and a major pain in the keister, getting around on one eye, but I’m hopeful that it will be worth it! Although I can barely see through the eye now, I can tell that the sky is much bluer!😊 I would not recommend vitrectomy without lens replacement.
Hello! I wish you a speedy recovery! How are your eyes now?
Fantastic video packed with excellent info. Thank you!
Thank you very much for the update! Could you elaborate on the 'eye stroke' incident that you had? It happened at random? Did you continue to see any visual disturbances for a while or just 1 or 2 times? Did the doctor find evidence of that in your eye? I ask because I had something very similar with no final conclusion as to the cause. However, an minor eye stroke was suspected as a possibility. So I'm interested to hear a bit more about that as well.
Eye stroke is just like a stroke..blood cloth interrupting supply of blood to tissue. Instead of brain , it happens on the retina. This is not retinal damage...but a blood content issue...fat, sugar, cholesterol..etc it happened during holidays when i consumed a larger amount of unheatlhy foods...the problem went away with not more incodents so far..but need to be carefull moving forward.
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 @vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 Thank you for your response! Was there something found on your retinal exam that the doctor found to determine that it was an eye stroke? I assume you had an OCT scan. So your symptoms did not last very long?
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 this is caused by insulin insensivty (high blood sugar). Healthy fats and exercise actually *prevent* this problem.
How come you don't have your head down? Thanks
No need...that is after retinal detachment surgery..not my case

I appreciate your videos. I have suffered with floaters for 30 years. I'm now 69. Just had cataract surgery with no problems. You're right about doctors and others telling you, just ignore them. Mine have become clouds that float by and block my vision. You give me courage to take the next step.
just do it! After cataract surgery with a pvd you are an excellent candidate. I had surgery in both eyes and it was amazing!
How old were u when u had surgery? @clareparfitt8908
@@SeraSan- 58
I just had cataract surgery and it went very well no problems but soon after I had capsulotomy so I had YAG surgery on both eyes for floaters now I’ve found out that the floaters are viscous floaters which have to be removed thru Vitrectomy surgery to remove the viscous floaters.
Did you have any problems with retina before the surgery? Thank you 🙏
No
Hello! I’m 27, I already developed cataract and 2 months ago I also got floaters:( I’m really scared and don’t know what to do :(
Sorry to hear that. You need to see an ophtalmologist/ retina specialist. Both issues can be treated...but you need to see why this hapened to you at this age
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 thank you 🙏
Did you have to stay face down for any length of time?
No. That is needed when there is a retinal detachment, to ensure that retina eill stay in place for some time. Not my case....
Pretty remarkable your doing well. What are the stitches for. I am to have this operation and there was no mention of stitches?
The doctor chose to stich the holes for ensuring no leaks. His choice, not mine. He took one stick out after few days, and another one disolved over time. Perhaps the needles moved a bit and the holes got larger during surgery...but i do not really know
How much % your non operated eye floaters cover your vision? I'm thinking to have victrectomy in one eye so maybe i could be able to adapt other eye floaters
I cannot estimate percentage....in reality it is very small.... this is not about coverage, but nuisance. One eye operated the other not, but still with floaters seem to work for me. My brain compensates and they do not bother me any more.
How many floaters did you have?
Again...so many..i could not count
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 Floaters will come after surgery
That is a false statement...depends on the surgery and other factors....
Thanks. I am only fourteen and I started having multiple floaters randomly in my left eye. Do you know any way (besides vitrectomy) that can lower or help the floaters temporarily?
Not really
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 Thanks for the response. I think I will try my hardest to ignore them to see if my brain can hide them, but people have said it’s pretty hard. I also have been wearing sunglasses to hide the effects while on vacation and I am glad I did. It helped so much, without them, it would be torture for me.
Hello how many foaters did you have in your right eye?
Cannot count...
7:08 I am having a vitrectomy on 3/19/24 and I have so many floaters I also feel it has reduced the quality of my life. I am OK with the cataract. I hope I have the luck you have but if I don’t, I’m still OK with that. Your videos have been very inspirational. Thank you for doing them.

Thanks for uploading your update video - im going to be having a vitrectomy in the summer and watching videos like yours has been helpful to understand the process and your experience.

Had this done 5 weeks ago My next day vision was like yours little blurry That was because of the dilation of the eye from the surgery After 4 days it was as good as normal I only needed 2 drops, not the pressure drops Good job
did you have sleep face down or anything else in particular?

No. I am not in US
@@vitrectomyforfloaters-pati5963 oh ok, i must have missed that in a couple of your videos, I'm only 44 and have been dealing with eyefloaters for over 4years and about 3 years ago i started to get a bunch, i have about 5 that are clumped together in a mass that floats around then i have a grey shadow that moves quickly across my vision and i have some really vibrant bright floaters and some not so easy to see floaters, I've been highly considering the yag treatment mainly cause from everything I've read you're guaranteed to get cataracts after the vitroctomy and everyone that has looked at my eye said there's absolutely nothing else wrong with it besides the floaters, plus it's my primary eye and i can't read or focus very well with my other so I've kinda got alot going on in my eye for my age, I'm about 20yrs ahead of schedule with all these floaters, the floater dr says he doesn't charge if he's unable to give some degree of relief after using the yag, thanks for sharing your story though it was an interesting listen
I would advise against that. I saw him and it was a complete waste of money and very disappointing. Vitrectomy is the only real cure.
