Hey there, I'm Jon and you've stumbled upon my TH-cam Channel 316 RACING. 316 RACING Channel is about my 2018 Shelby GT350 also known as "BIG Nasty" and the fun we have cutting up and tracking and racing this beast at various events and tracks around the country. Our home track, where we do all of our practicing, is Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. I was a member at AMP since the beginning of 2018 but have since joined DCRA (Driving Club of Road Atlanta) and have been having a blast ever since. Come along for the ride and watch myself, and BIG Nasty get pushed to our limits...

My personal best @ Rd ATL but how much time did I leave on the table?
Had another club day @ Rd ATL and was able to put down my personal best lap time of 1:33.70 but left some time on the table big time. So frustrating but we'll get there. Thanks for tuning in and have a blessed day!!

Another shake down of the car at Rd Atlanta. Still have some dialing in to do but getting closer!

Had a member day this past Thursday at Road Atlanta. Total focus was on gaining traction and relearning how to transfer the added weight to the car from the supercharger. My braking points have changed big time, working on taking out some understeer, and relearning how to modulate and feather the throttle coming out of turns. I'm still not convinced that supercharging the car will improve my la...
Finally got the car back after 5 months! Testing out new MCS coil overs @ Rd Atl with Barry Trivette
มุมมอง 4968 หลายเดือนก่อน
The car is finally home! Big Nasty has been gone for 5 months getting all sorts of work done. The car has been gutted and a full roll cage installed along with a fire suppression system, kill switch, and new MCS coil overs just to name a few. Lap times are definitely suffering but all that will change once the car is dialed in. The goal this year is to pull off a sub 1:30 so stay tuned! Thanks ...

First trip to my home track, Rd ATL with BIG Nasty 2.0 and her new 800 hp. I took it easy and didn't push the car whatsoever and was still able to do a 1:34. I definitely think the car has a sub 1:30 but the driver, not so much. At least for right now... But hopefully I'll get there one day.

I recently boosted my 2018 Shelby GT350 with a 3.0 liter Gen 5 Whipple supercharger. BIG Nasty 2.0 is officially a born! I'm having to relearn how to drive the car one track day at a time. I've never experienced this amount of horsepower, it's a total game-changer. I went from 519 to the tires to 834 to the tires and switched to e85. Hoping to improve lap times once I learn how to handle this b...

Now, putting down 775 hp to the tires on 93 pump gas and 834 hp to the tires on e85 corn. She is a handful and gonna take a lot of getting use to. In the process of relearning how to drive the car. A couple of viewers were kind enough to study some laps of mine at Road Atlanta and made some suggestions on how I could improve my lap times. I had been stuck in the 34's since November of last year trying like crazy to break into the 33's/32's and just hadn't been able to do it until now. All you Stang haters, here's another one for ya. Can a GT350 track down a lighter & faster C8 @ RA?

Ok all you Stang haters, and there are plenty of you, here's another GT350 vs Corvette video for you. The C8 Corvette comes with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission with a 0-60 mph of sub 3 seconds coming in at 2.7-2.9 seconds. It's top track speed is 194 mph. This mid-engine beast of a car is a work of art and a very badass track car. Can I hang with it? Battle starts on lap 2! I met the drive...

What Camera setup did you use?
I use the Garmin Catalyst system. It works pretty good. There is a new one out called the Cambox I'd like to try. It's gotten good reviews so far.
I was there that day... My first thought was he (Red Truck) is not low enough to the ground to see me...
I thought the exact same thing. His vision had to be an issue for him. I think you're right good sir!!
Is this open passing or point by? Running like that with another GT350 must have been fun! You were definitely much quicker in overall lap pace though. Great driving between both of you though.
Thanks buddy and Happy New Year to you! It was just point by. That's my buddy in the white gt350. We were just cutting up out there and having fun. Can't wait for winter to pass so we can get back out there...
@316racingchannel9 Fuckin around with a friend on track is as good as it gets! Keep kicking ass my dude, maybe I'll see you out there sometime.
Thanks brother!! Be safe out there my friend!!
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Have you changed the spring rates for the dampers? What kind of negative camber can you get/use?
I run a 700 spring rate in the rear and 900 in the front. I did have issues putting the power down to the ground, so I went from 1100 in the rear all the way to 700 to soften it up. I run -3.0 camber in the front and -1.8 in the rear. All great questions, buddy! This setup works best for me and the way the car sits now.
Can you share what mods you have done with your car?

@@316racingchannel9 Nice!
No one hates mustangs, we just hate them when they show up to the street meet. It's dangerous lmao
What is he 'X'ing with tape? The parking sensors? Never seen that.
That session is what Chin Track Days calls "Happy Hour". All drivers are allowed on the track at the same time for the last hour of the day. The X's on the back windshield indicate a beginner or novice driver. 👍🏻
You can take it a little deeper into T10 (shoot for the flag stand with the blue roof) and trail the brakes to the apex. It'll help you keep parallel with the left side curb, open up the radius of 10a and help to get a little earlier throttle. Also, you can get off the brakes earlier for T3 if you're willing to use more curbing. You can get off the brakes earlier in T6 if you're willing to use more balls.
Thanks!! Greatly appreciate you taking the time to study the vid. Doing Rd Atl this weekend. Will put your advice to work! Thanks again!
@@316racingchannel9 Nice job!
The C8 guy might be a super cool guy with his helmet off, but he was pretty agro with it on.
Looks like a Volvo P1800 was faster than both!
Can't wait until I see some footage of a customer C8 ZR1 value-hypercar.
No doubt buddy. I'm anxious to see one of those on track. Total beast!!! American made too! Love it!!
Thanks for your reply, I had the same issue with the slider. Discovery parts knows there stuff! I went with the sparco low hard mounts. Made a big difference. You could pick up another second or two hard mounting the seat. Good luck!!
@tommagruder9692 love it!! Thanks Tom!!
Nice Job!! Is your seat moving like it seems in the video or is that a camera issue?
Thank you, Tom! And yes, it is a seat issue. Actually, it's the Sparco seat slider. I'm actually on my 2nd one, and I was hoping something was wrong with the 1st one, but the 2nd one is doing the same thing as well. I bought it from Discovery Parts and they are talking to Sparco about it. Don't use the Sparco seat slider. Discovery Parts seems to think that Sparco started using a lighter/softer gauge of steel to save money because they've never had this problem in the past. Ron @ Discovery Parts made a video underneath my seat this past Saturday of what was happening and sent it off to Sparco. I should hear something back in the next week or so. My alternatives are to try a different manufacturer or have my guys mount it directly to the car and do away with the slider. Id much rather have the capability of sliding the seat back though. Just makes it easier getting in and out. Sorry for the long winded response buddy...
Looks like fun$$$
So glad my track days are on 2 wheels, videos like this don't make HPDE culture look great.
Driver learned just cause his truck got a viper motor doesn't make it an actual viper lol
Epic battle...in The Special Olympics.
Wouldn't be a Ford if you didn't have to pull over and pop the hood. Lol, i'm joking, nice 4-cylinder though..
You trying to keep up with the vette improved your lap times.
I know right! Funny how that works. I was trying like crazy to keep up.
@316racingchannel9 yes it is. I was chasing a GT3 RS recently, and he was faster, but I had my fastest laps ever at barber motorsports park.
@derfpoloderf oh nice man! I love Barber. Gorgeous track. I usually do it every year but I won't make it this year. I'll definitely have to hit it next year. What do you drive?
Just curious, what are your oil temps like on track?
Anywhere between 260 and 280. I use Amsoil and change it out after just 4 days on track. Try not to let it break down hardly then change it. Great question! 👊🏻
@@316racingchannel9 Okay thank you for this, we have very similar vehicles and Road Atlanta is also my home track, so just looking to compare what you're seeing. Also, curious if you've ever experienced fuel starvation symptoms (turn 5)?
@404-Frontiers I have and at turn 5 as well but only when the car was on e85. Are you on e85? I'm back on 93 for the time being but I did address the fuel starvation when I was on e85. It was happening bad at VIR and Rd ATL. I ordered a Hydramat system from Holley and put it in the gas tank and it fixed the issue big time. Never had it happen again. Highly recommended it but know this going in, you will have to change it out once a year. So once you start it will become a yearly consumable. Check it out on Holley's website or just Google Hydramat. Hope this helps buddy...
@@316racingchannel9 yes I'm also on e85... I was previously looking into radium surge tank based on conversations with vorshlag but will give this a shot first if it worked for you... thank you!
@@316racingchannel9Yes I'm on e85... I was previously looking at a Radium solution but I will definitely take a closer look at hydramat. Thank you!
The fact that you called it a 4x4...
“PORSCHE…there is no substitute”
Lol... got that right! Unbelievable car!
You did a great job navigating that track. Good lines & handling. In the words of superspeeder Rob you can make a dump truck do a 9 second quarter mile if the throw enough $ at it. Good track driving is a balance between speed, control & driving the lines
@jerrydavis6638 Thanks Jerry! Appreciate that very much sir!! Have a blessed day my friend!
That's not a track vehicle. Unsafe. High CG. That truck should not have been allowed to participate. Drag strip, sure. Road course... heck no. Unsafe.
That pickup truck should not have been allowed on the track.
💯%
What's up with the lack of point by!!!??? The white FP 350 look-alike held you up.
I know, man... he refused to give me the point by, and when he finally did, it was in one of the toughest turns at Mid-Ohio. He was an instructor to boot. They never should have let him on the track. He ended up blowing up his engine. Just a bad move all the way around... love your car btw...
Congrats on the new PB!
Thank you sir!!
Never caught that new edge tho
Why do they call this track mid-Ohio when it is very clearly top-tier-Ohio?
I don't know man. That is so true! Lol
What the fuck 😂
Nice driving! You did well on this lap. You're moving for sure. I compared this to your other 1:33 lap. Two places you could have picked up time for sure was on the two straights. Between 5-6 you lifted and in your other video you didn't. Also, on the back straight you stayed in the power all the way until the red Motul sign. You hit 153mph there. I think with your new setup you'd be doing 165mph. haha. So I know that can be intimidating. I think you could easily run 1:31's but it's just getting used to that new suspension and controlling that power. Car sounds awesome.
Thanks Jeremy! I appreciate it my friend!!
Easy for someone to say "stay in it" on the back but it always feels light coming through 9 right?? That car is a beast now brother. Nice job.
That's right! Thanks Chris and hope all is well buddy!
@316racingchannel9 Been a wild couple months but ran a new Shelby at Charlotte this weekend and went well.
@concretevol I was wondering cause you did have a red one didn't you? I like the white a lot! What year did you get?
Awesome job !!! That is a great lap time in the heat ! I'm thinking 32s easily this fall. 90 in turn 1 above 50 in 7 then 160 braking into 10a that will get you in the 32s most deffently.
I hope so buddy!
Nice job man! I should be back out there in October!
Let me know when you're coming!
Sound is incredible. Nice job. Glad your back.
Thanks Brian! Hope all is well buddy!!
Hope you really think about what all that flashy safety gear you have on was made and sold for. Shouldve been black flagged for all the safety issues going on here :P
JON, Great Video!!! Great Lap!!! I Love passing Porsche's!! Car is a 1:30 lap!!! You can do it!!
Thanks big guy!! I'm gonna try. Car definitely has a 1:30 in it, driver on the other hand...
Will you be my Mike Honcho"?? Haha... Awesome job !!! My friend.. you'll be seeing 32s this fall with no problem . Big Nasty's a get'en it down the back straight now Great to see you back lots of hard work .
Thanks Rick! Can't wait to see you out there buddy.
glad to see your back in the saddle. nice 133.89. shake and bake. why 7 laps?
Thanks Ghost!! It is sooooo hot out there buddy, 7 Laps is about all I could handle each session.
Even better than shake n bake is El Diablo and The Magic Man! Nice sticker though!
Lol love it!!
Straight line cars should either know when to MOVE OVER or stay off the damn track. Damn ego drivers
so a fool with something to prove in a great track car can pass an old man enjoying his first time out on the track in his new c8. Great
Is the seat bottom mounted? Would your setup accommodate a side mount setup? You would get some better car feel if the seat was moving around less imo.
Appreciate the comment, buddy. I don't even notice it. The halos are gonna flex some as I generate some amount of G's and because of the design with them sticking out like they do. It's a carbon fiber seat.
@@316racingchannel9 true. I had Corbeau’s at one point that were bottom mounted and mine did the same thing. I changed the mount and went to a Sparco and noticed a difference in the car feel. The Sparco didn’t move at all with the side mount.
Hey Jeremy, where did your comment go on the video I posted yesterday? You had some good points I wanted to use buddy. It disappeared for some reason. Thanks man.
@@316racingchannel9 thought I was a little critical so I deleted it. Essentially, stay in the throttle on the straights. You want one braking point with no coasting if possible. Your lap was close in time to your old best, but when you had less power. Study your old videos for comparison. When are you getting on throttle? How fast were you going at entry and exit? Are you tracking out enough? What was I doing different in the old lap time vs what I am doing now? Etc. If you compare them enough things will start to jump out at you.
@JeremyGSU2011 Love it! Thanks Jeremy! I didn't think that at all. I took it as constructive criticism. I will be the first to admit that I don't know it all and that there is ALWAYS room for improvement. I consider myself still a rookie at all this. The moment you think you know it all and that you have it mastered, bad things will happen. I appreciate you taking the time to analyze everything buddy. That's how I look at it. Thanks again brother!!
Damn those porches dropped you
That’s not a pro driver in the Vette. You can see the mistakes. No fluidity.

Thanks buddy! I run American Racing Headers and exhaust. It's a full American Racing set up.
@@316racingchannel9 Great! It sounds perfect! How do you cancel the modes for the valves so you don’t get any messages?
No messages showed up at all. However, you do lose quiet mode. The valves permanently stay open and in loud mode. Which we like anyway right? Lol! 🤣
