I Designed and Made a Crochet Blanket from Tapestry Wool! | Beginner Friendly
My new website: www.eleanorbirchellhughes.co.uk/
Link to the crochet blanket kit: www.eleanorbirchellhughes.co.uk/product-page/crochet-blanket-kit
Hello my lovelies, Happy New Year! In this video I'll show you the whole process of how to crochet a granny hexagon and make it into a blanket. I demonstrate magic ring, slip stitch, chain, single crochet, double crochet, and triple crochet, also how to add in colours and finish off your work. If your a beginner I highly recommend working a test hexagon first in just one colour so that you can get to grips with your hook and stitch names.
For two hexagons you will need approximately 30 metres of yarn (I used three different colours of tapestry yarn), a 4.5mm crochet hook for Aran weight yarn (worsted weight for US), and a large eye needle.
To make hexagon:
Make a magic ring, chain 4, triple crochet 1, chain 2, triple crochet 2, chain 2, repeat triple crochet 2 chain 2 until you have six pairs of legs.
Into first set of legs single crochet, into space slip stitch to move yarn, double crochet 5 to make petal, slip stitch to make petal, single crochet into next pair, repeat until you have six petals.
Into first single crochet chain 6, pick up petal point single crochet, chain 3, double crochet into valley between petals, chain 3, pick up petal point, chain 3, repeat until all the support chains are in place, to end chain 3 from last petal point and slip stitch into chain of 6 that you began with into third chain from the bottom.
Chain 3, double crochet 4 into space, chain 3 for first corner, double crochet 4 into next space, move hook and double crochet 4 into next space, chain 3 for 2nd corner, repeat until you reach starting chain.
Skip chain and insert hook into next stitch, slip stitch 1, single crochet into each stitch until back at skipped chain, for the corners single crochet into corner space 3 times.
To finish please see video because I don't actually think I can describe it!
I really really hope you have a go at crochet it is so much fun and so accessible to nearly everyone!
My big announcement is that I am launching my website! It's a sort of capsule website at the moment, but in time it will grow. There is a gallery of past and present work and if there is a TH-cam video you'll be able to click on a link to take straight to the related video. Also there is a little shop where you can buy vintage sewing ephemera, specialist equipment, patterns, and kits, the first of which is a crochet kit to make this blanket. In time I'll be adding more kits, and eventually my own work will also be for sale. There is an enquiry link so you can contact me for business enquiries, such as special orders and commissions, or even sponsorships.
Thank you as always for your continuing support, and hey if your new hello and welcome to my channel! Actually quite a few of you must be new because since I made this video I've gone from 10k to 10,200 subscribers! Thank you,
Eleanor 💚

Unboxing a Vintage Singer Sewing Machine, but Which One?
มุมมอง 3.2K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hello my lovelies, I'm sorry it's been a while, if you watch to the end of the video you'll find out why. Some years ago I realised that for some of my future ideas and projects, I would need a much tougher sewing machine than my plastic Singer franchise machine. After much research and watching of TH-cam videos I found the 201k machine, it sounded ideal, electric, vintage, metal body and there...
A Hint of Spring? Four Patch Quilt with Appliqué Pre-loved Hand Embroidery, A Flower Strewn Quilt

Hello lovely people, I hope you are all keeping well and getting through winter as best you can. I find January and February really tough months, so I thought why not think of spring and flowers and pretty things. I started planning this quilt over a year ago, I even filmed some of it. While doing a test piece I found that I really didn't like the first iteration of my design idea - test pieces...
Make a Practical and Pretty Crossover Strap Apron *Beginner Friendly*

Hi everyone, happy new year! I've got plans to do some messy stuff on fabric and I'm fed up of wearing old scruffy clothes, so how about making a practical and pretty apron? I've gone for a slightly high waisted apron with a full long gathered skirt and crossover straps and without fastening's or hardwear. It was not my intention to look like I was after a part in "The sound of music" but here ...

Hi everyone, this is my third December video, there were going to be four but I've been really poorly. In this video, I show how to make an oven mitt that looks so neat and pretty. At some point, I'll send a link to the website so you can buy enough for one mitt...

Anyway in this video I experimented with stiffening crochet with PVA and water and made some super cute bunting for wintertime. I also had a go at making little dishes/baskets using the same method. The little doily bowl looks so nice as a way to pretty up some soap as a gift and is so easy to do....

Question when you’re pulling the last knot between the layers of the quilt, that knot is maybe a half inch from the last stitch leaving a space of loose thread to maybe back up and make that last 23 stitches loose? I hope my question makes sense. Thank you please explain.❤

The further along you get on your project, the better your camera angles are thank you I think I spoke too soon. Sorry.😔 thank you for mentioning the size of needle brand and the side of thread and brand. Very helpful….. question. I’m familiar with the hang from the ceiling stretch out the whole quilt frame. Besides space why would you not prefer this style and stretching your quilt out… question: when you first did the first stitch pulling the knob through, I don’t understand did you pull it all the way through where we had to start over?. Please explain…. Thank you. I’m so interested in your next videos.❤

I grew up thinking all quilts were made from two layers of fabric with wool laid between because that's what we made in school on the borders60+ years ago aged about 7. They don't teach kids really usefull things any more it seems. Patchwork was an alien thing I learned about when learning about history. Eventually I came accross strange USA practices of purchasing New cloth ! in order to make quilts rather than cutting up old clothes. My Nain was lazy and used old blankets as wadding rather than gathering wool from hedges but at school we were told to bring in our own harvest to make our pot cloths as gifts for our Mamau

The quilt being so lovely is the main reason I watched the video. I don't know how to be an exhibition judge, but to me part of the "quilting" is the way the top is put together. Some quilts don't need a lot of stitching through all three layers to be complete. So in short, I disagree with the judge who remarked about the quilting, and the one who said color isn't applicable. Also you have a lovely storytelling voice that draws the listener in to the story about Aunt Edie.
