78 FJ40 Un-Conventional Walkabout #fj40
มุมมอง 1.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
A walkabout and description of my daily driver 1978 FJ40LV-KCJA Toyota Land Cruiser. I put this truck together in 2003 out of 4 basket case cruisers, using a 1978 chassis and a 67 Arizona body, then in 2017 I changed the frame added all 1978 body parts and did a complete restoration. I love this truck, it just keeps going with minimal maintenance. @JosesGaraje

Had to figure out how to move this FJ40 frame out of the shop, stored since last winter, the frame weighs more than me and was packed in between the 77 FJ40 and the shops center post, had to be careful while moving not to damage the 2F engine. @JosesGaraje

UGH! just bought 4 LOL!
Bummer, I bought two myself, now they are in the electronics trash box. I subsequently bought a GoPro Hero 10 and love it.
So basicly it's a piece of shit.
In my opinion yes
Liked the technical part of your video, but I cannot watch a video where the house and curtilage looks like Hiroshima after Little Boy exploded. Clean you place up dude. You still get a thumbs up for content.
Thanks
where did you get the propane kit from?
When I bought the inverter generator from Champion it went to their shipping department and before drop shipping an option was listed for dual fuel for an added cost, which I purchased. Oddly enough if you talk with Champion customer service they will say the unit is not dual fuel. The shipping dept Ph# is 1-843-637-2867 they might provide you with a dual fuel kit for this unit.
Thank you this video saved me from wasting $
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped!
Nice 😊
Thanks 😊
Like the setup, plain and simple.
It's not bad but I would like automatic switching if it wasn't so dang expensive. The other issue that keeps me from getting adequate rest during the nights that it's running is that it's attached to my porch and if there was a catastrophic failure, like a fire my home would go up.
Nice. Thanks!
A couple of items that I forgot to mention in the description are: Nu Lifestyle Marketing which has the same address as Breathe Green in CA is not BBB accredited and has 4 complaints filed, Platform Life Style which charged me a membership fee, located at 3559 Centinela Ave in Pacoima, CA when looking at this address with Spokeo Maps it shows an apartment complex.
This video is spot on! I wish I had seen this video before I purchased this crap. 😮
Yes, I bought two of these POS and then purchased a GoPro Hero 10. The difference in video quality is astounding. My channel has surely benefited. If you will help me with a sub.
@JosesGaraje I bought 4 of those POS. 🤦🏼 Just subbed.....🥃🍻
@@RedDevil5081 Thanks! I bought them from (proxtremecam.com) and have a follow up video in the process to high light their suspicious activity. Watch your bank account for monthly charges of $24.99 from Platform Lifestyle, Pacoima, CA
The follow up video will be posted on TH-cam @ 5PM today. Enjoy
Holy cow, this video tears at my heart. I had a 1981 FJ40 in the High Desert of California when I was stationed at George AFB in the USAF (in my twenties). I drove that sucker off-road all over the Mojave Desert and never had a problem. Then, I was reassigned to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. So, I drove it up there. Twelve days on the road, up the "AlCan Highway." Lived there for three years and again, never had an issue with all the snow and such. Drove six miles up a dirt road to my house in the mountains of Eagle River. I've never seen a more beautiful place. Then, I drove back to the east coast of the USA (Rhode Island) to live for thirty five years. It finally rusted out completely. I still miss that thing. I've since had all kinds of vehicles -- sports cars, power trucks, etc. But I think that old, desert tan FJ-40 is my favorite.
I've had many vehicles myself and currently own a 2019 Rav 4 but I rarely drive it and drive the Cruiser instead. I was stationed in Newport, RI for 3/6 years in the USN.
@@JosesGaraje Ah, Newport. So beautiful. I'm landlocked in a mountain town in AZ now. I miss the ocean. So now I drive to Puerto Penasco, Mexico for my seafood fix.
I'm landlocked too but on a lake; I don't miss the ocean all that much, there are many perks for living in the woods. I found the coast is too populated for my taste.
Greetings from western Maine, that's a beauty!
Thanks. I really enjoy this truck and can't wait to get the 40-45 conversion ramped up.
Looks like fun! You're doing great, especially since you have to do that by yourself. Keep up the good work!
Yes, my kingdom for a tractor with a bucket and backhoe!

Thats a good price on that utility cart trailer! Put that segment on a seperate video or short! 28:32-28:44. Do a review on it!
Yes, reviews get more views and watch time. The utility trailer has had a fair number of changes because it has broken down so much.
You deserve more subs, your channel is neat! A driving video of your area would be cool! I have a really good windshield mount that I use. A resident where I work watches videos of people driving around in cities and towns and country sides. I think one day he was watching a video of Maine! it had like 150k views!
I'll check it out!
I love chocolate labs!
Yum!
I think his has a 60 fps refresh rate setting.
The pxels of the right side are grainy and the refresh rate is low, the one on the left looks great! My brother's GoPro is pretty good he uses for his channel Gr8 Finds.
I did the water pump on my '03 chevy, it wasnt too hard once I found out from TH-cam, that the way to get the fan blade bolt off is to use an oversized adjustable wrench and swiftly hit it with a rubber mallet clockwise since its a backwards thread. I also did the fuel pump which is on the top of the tank. The easiest way is to lift the bed giving you access to the pump.
I work in assisted living as a care nurse, God Bless you and your dad and mom! Greetings from Athens, TN
Thank you for this honest review! 🌟📸
Your welcome, honesty is something we all could use more of right now.
Thank you for the info. I'm looking at getting a GoPro and was researching alternatives and I found the CER review that boasted greatly about this camera. Looking at the website to order the camera it made me question the legitimacy of their product. The website was really cheesy and unprofessional. Then I found your video that confirmed my suspicions. Thank you for letting us know. Sorry you ended up with a cheap POS!
Yes, I was taken in by the seemingly legitimate website reviewers. But now I have a GoPro Hero 10 and have thrown the pro extreme cams in the junk box. Glad I could help you out! Check out my most recent video of a side by side comparison of the GoPro and pro extreme cam footage.
Thank you!
When it comes to action cams the only one that I personally will line up against a gopro is the Insta360. The older DJI and Sony cams were good around the era of GoPro 7, but they haven't improved along with the latest generations of GoPro in my opinion.
I just Googled the Insta360 besides the price it was kind of confusing with all the models available which one would fit what I film for content, anyway we'll keep shooting with the GoPro for now since I'm 4,972 subscribers shy of monetization...hahaha.😂
I just tried this camera today recording on an ATV, the results were terrible. The video was wavy, the colors were off as well as the definition of the trail and woods I was in; and the video was washed out because of the light changing in the foliage. What a piece of junk. You can't play a video from a file in the cam but have to upload it to a computer then play it with a video program, takes added time for editing. Piece of shit.
Never got to go fishing this summer. My brand new Tohatsu 5 HP 4 stroke with less than 20 hours on it would not stay running past idle. Hard starting, would idle but cough, jitter and quit at about 1/4 throttle. Changed the fuel bulb...didn't help could it be the carburetor with such little running time?
Thanks for posting
You bet
Interesting enough I have found out that when Toyota split off from Toyoda, the later stayed in business and provided parts for Toyota vehicles.
So far I like these Hankook ATs, the ride is good, not much noise and the FJ40 Land Cruiser sticks to the road on corners. The Wildpeaks seem a little pricey but I saw some good prices for the Rubitecs. The Hankooks have a limited 60,000 mile warranty on the tread so it will hopefully be awhile before I need new tires.
I got Faulken at off road tires for my Zr2 and they perform well!
Maybe soak it with PB blaster for a week and then it might let go. I had that problem with a bolt I was trying to remove when I was trying to lift the bed on my Chevy S-10 to replace the fuel pump. After soaking it with PB blaster the bolt broke loose.
I've never tried PB Blaster but I know @nononsenseknowhow advertises it all the time. The pitman arm is on a tapered splined sector shaft with the nut torque of 130 ft. lbs. Its been on the power steering gearbox for 40 years. I think it needs to be pressed off with heat. Thanks for your suggestion!
its crazy to me how a guy cant boil water but he can do this. amazing work man
Thanks man, if you go to my channel @josesgaraje community page you can find more about the cruiser's first build in 2003
I haven’t used that particular series of Hankook tires, but we ran them at work for a while and I wasn’t displeased. Here lately I’ve been mostly running Falken on my personal and work trucks and couldn’t be happier with them except maybe the price!
Ya. I found good reviews, and liked the 60,000 mile tread warranty and the price, We'll see
Wow! And here in East Tennessee, we have tornado watches for tonight!
Maybe title the video “Fj40 2f engine start after sitting almost 20 years Fj45 project”
We'll try it, seems like many people like dormant engine starts. We've gotten over 500 views since last month, not too bad. Thanks.
Sounds like a fun project. I look forward to seeing it come together.
Mmmm! lol!
Looking forward to seeing the progress!
I've decided that to have a real good frame I need to remove the inner frame rails so I can sand blast and paint the inside of the outer rail. Lots of follow-up vids for this one.
Great job! Beau brought me here from your comment! You have a good soothing voice!
Oh thank you!
On my FJ40/45 project truck I'll be using semi-floating rear axles not full floating axles that were used for FJ45s ( because that's what I have in stock and I've never had problems with semi-floating axles). I will however install disc brakes on the rear for good brakeage and to eliminate the possibility of losing a wheel and axle shaft due to rear differential damage.
Since publishing this video I have found many channels on TH-cam that deal with the upgrades that can be made on your Harbor Freight sandblasting canister, Increased size and replacement of valves as well as a different nozzle, to name a few.
Since making this video I have read the controversy regarding an increase of horsepower using a snorkel. Many believe it's just a sales pitch. Installing headers will give a small increase in horsepower as well as a super charger (big bucks). I was wondering, since the cowling I'm using (1977) has the vent for a carburetor cooling fan, if I connected the carb cooling fan to the carb air breather would the increase of CFM give the engine a boost? I have yet to find what the carb cooing fan CFM output is, but it's a thought.
