In this video, I thought it would be fun to see if we could beat a couple of 5.0 players if they were only using trainer paddles.

Kevin, you could vastly improve your game by getting your paddle up and out in front in ready position after every shot. You tend to hold it low down by your side which causes you to miss many defensive shots, and hit shots too high because you are going from low to high with your paddle and hitting up on the ball.
Also, drill your backhand shots. You miss easy backhand shots because your backhand is far weaker than your forehand, or you try to hit them as a forehand when you should be using your backhand.
Yeah, that is definitely something I forget to do. Whenever I am lazy I tend to drop my paddle.
Gosh, the 3.5's should not be hitting the net as often as they are, heck they have a full paddle! They've tried no lobs (harder to hit hard with the tiny paddle) or much else in their arsenal. You sure these two are 3.5's? Sorry, I can't even watch to the end, the mistakes are rookie mistakes and numerous!
Thanks for watching as far as you could!
3.0 is far more accurate. Limited shots in the arsenal like you said, and everything going over the net was far too high. People tend to self-rank much higher than reality.
Well we are both between 3.0 and 3.5 DUPR currently, so you are correct in that regard, we would be competing in 3.0 bracket. Though my Dupr has been as high as 3.75. Lobs against these two 6’+ 20 something’s would have been a sight to see. I think we might have been ducking for cover after those ;). I was impressed with how well those two handled the trainers. At one point we actually decided to drive them since our drops were too easy for them to attack. We figured maybe countering with a trainer or resetting would be more difficult. But that didn’t turn out to be the case. Looking back at these games, I felt like we lost them more than the score showed. I was surprised that we actually managed to stay somewhat close…
You asked for comments so... 1. 3rd shot drop! : Both 3.5 players are trying to drive through 2 players standing forward. driving from the base line works if the opponents are too lazy to move forward. If they are at the kithchen; Lob or drop. Faster younger taller men can usually smash a lob back. 3rd shot drop is a much higher percentage shot and it was not part of the 3.5 game shown today. 2. Dink better! : This 3.5 team was trying to speed up to early while the dinks were still very low. Be patient. Wait until the bounce is higher or they hit into the net. Recognize when they are out of position to split the middle. 3. Avoid dinking wide! This is when you give away the ATP. ATPs are demoralizing and take you out of the next 2 points mentally. 4. Service return: Return deep and slow to give yourself time to charge the kitchen. If your returns are strong, low and fast, you wont have enough time to get to the kitchen. A strong fast return should only be used if you have enough time to get into proper foward position. A higher slower return is more advantageous because THEY have to wait for it to bounce before returning it. Make them wait longer! 5. Cleaner flatter swings! : Avoid an under-hand swing. Try to swing you paddle flatter. under-hand swings have excellent left and right control but little height control. Height control is more important. A flat hit from the left or right has less directional control but is more precise with height control. Height control is more important then directional control. I can go on, but if you can fix these basic items you can beat the guys with the little paddles. Kenny.
Thanks Kenny! I’ll take this into consideration next time. These are some really helpful tips
Get that boy Cade mic upped
For sure, thought 1 mic on each side would be able to pick everything up, gonna have to mic everyone up next time
@ definitely love these type of vids too
“Yeah, just hit him!” That’s always a good strat. Man those guys are good. Might need to give them wooden planks next time and rematch them.
Whats better than this with spin n forgiveness?
I haven't tried anything with better spin, but this is not a forgiving paddle
IS HE SERIOUSLY USING A KNIFE TO REMOVE THOSE STAPLES!!??😮😮 ONE SLIP and you are getting 30 stiches and done playing until December!!!
What was the stock swingweight?
Paddle is ugly af and you know it. I realize you're getting paid for this and they want you to pretend you love the graphics so kudos to you for being able to say with a straight face that you think it looks good when we both know it looks like a $20 amazon Nupoopoo paddle.
i've never heard/seen this and they website doesn't say anything about it. What is the purpose and use of this ?
It adds weight to the handle which lowers the balance point making the paddle feel faster in the hands and hopefully increasing swing speed. It also adds mass to the paddle in turn increasing power a little bit.
Gen2 is cool, I enjoyed the Neonic Flare and Monarch Control but I've been using the Paddletek Bantem TKO-CX and before that the Vatic Prism Flash. Sometimes I feel like Gen 1.5 is underrated. That being said I am excited for new tech in pickleball particularly w the Ronbus Ripple!
Yeah, paddletek does some voodoo magic to make their paddles hit super hard while being gen 1.
@@kevknows.pickleball It's gotta be the core and the fiberglass. Bantam TKO-CX also has built-in perimeter weighting. voodoo magic core lol.
@@kevknows.pickleballEngage Pursuit Pro paddles are amazing too.
Thank you for the video, my paddle’s cap was loose and I used the electrical tape to reinforce the fit, it’s perfect now!
The paddle I got core crushed/delaminated after 2 weeks of play. During that time, it continued to get hotter and hotter until it was uncontrollable. This is a well documented problem from many players online. Joola will only replace one paddle and will not honor a return on the replacement. Their other Gen 3 paddles were banned shortly after they sold them and now the Mod Tech paddle only lasts a few weeks. I would not recommend this paddle or Joola as a company.
I did not know that you can only replace the paddle one time. That is very interesting. Definitely hard to recommend a paddle that is constantly changing.
Don’t believe this, this is a bot that’s copy-pasted the exact same comment in every Mod TA-15 video. Reporting for spam.
@@kabob21 Not a bot. Just someone trying to help other picklers from spending a lot of money on a paddle that won't last.
@@austinbarnes3764 I haven’t had any issues with mine in a month. Vast majority of owners don’t. Joola backs it with a 1-year warranty that many reviewers have said they’ve been good about honoring. Your one experience isn’t the norm that supports going on a campaign to trash the paddle in every video about it on YT.
Agreed. There is a related problem that is more insidious . The crush is not a yes/no thing; it's how much. Yours got hotter and hotter and became uncontrollable and you stopped using it, but some get hot and plateau. Players, including this reviewer call that the 'break-in'. There is no such thing. It is brok-en but the failure just hasn't progressed further. With Gen2 Perseus, the sound changes, so you can identify the d-bags that continue to use hot/crushed paddles. The Mods and Gen3's thunk already. Only the owner can tell, if they care. Yes, Joola customer service sucks.
The Elongated Gearbox Pro Power Pickleball Paddle is the best pickleball paddle on the market
Thanks for this!
Does every pb reviewer really have to wear a melin hat. You really just a mini Chris.
What can I say, he was right, these are the best hats
Similar background look also haha
Maybe we should try new things in order to break out? Idk I just feel like you should put your own spin on things. It’s like copying someone’s paper and barely changing it.
@@Zack32796 Hey if you got any suggestions im all ears
@@goldenchildtheater I mean I only know of 2 other reviewers who have a paddle wall, not much you can decorate a wall with thats pickleball related

What a thorough and detailed review! The images are top-notch quality. Thanks for sharing your expertise and opinion!
I love my Hyper Beat Two! Noticed a difference in my game from the first time used it. Have more power and control with the Beatnik Paddle. Excited to try more products from the brand!
This is just a great review. The content is super thorough and the recording quality is top notch!!
Thank you! That means a lot
Top!🔥
What about a staple remover?
That could work, I just didn't have one, would definitely be safer haha
You touched on it briefly but would Love to hear more about head-to-head comparison with Gearbox Ultimate. The mod ahouldn't feel as head heavy and play slightly more forgiving with a full edge gaurd. Am I missing anything else besides durability and QC issues?
Personally, the Gearbox Ultimate is super head heavy. Also being edgeless it lacks stability and adding perimeter weighting makes it even more head heavy. I think with weight at 4 and 8 it got up to 129 swing weight. I personally played without weight and it was just very hard to control. If you can get past the durability and qc issues, i much prefer the MOD
John mentioned the top spin with him was 2600 rpm
You do know that the “titanium “ is really PET or polyethylene threads…
shame, man didn't do enough research before doing this review.
Good Stuff! I can't wait to try out this paddle.
Awesome review, thanks Kevin!
Used this paddle for the first time today. This thing is awesome out of the box plenty of power, control, and spin. It’s got it all.
Great review, and yes, this is a 4.0+ paddle. I demoed over 10 paddles and this was by far the closest to the feeling I get when playing tennis. The dynamic playability is off the charts compared to other paddles. Mine is leaded up to 8.7 oz and feels perfect with a yonex super grap overgrip. Cheers! 😊

What is your total weight after you modifications?
How's the control after your modification. ?
Great info, I think technology like this might help the game grow in some areas where noise is a concern, looking forward to how it develops
That's what its all about, growing the sport!
Great review. Subscribed!
I have the hush paddle and the feel is fabulous. The reduced noise also good.
Yeah, I think its a great paddle!
I just ordered mine. What do you love or hate about it? What modifications did you make?
Would like to know more about your experience with it
Do you know if diadem will provide replacement E-tpu foam when it wears out? Thank you
I think that would be under normal wear and tear so they would not replace it. :(
Okay thanks. Do you know where replacement sheets of etpu can be purchased? It appears that the thickness on the paddle is about 4 mm.
Great review!! I’ve been wanting this paddle for so long
Thank you!
Bruhhh PB is a shyt show. All these people saying you can use illegal paddles in Rec play but I can't just play with my friends because theres open play. Then y'all always set me up with the bad people to even out these teams but aim for the weaker player so that not only do i not play, I'd lose and winner stay.
Yeah, that can definitely get annoying during open play when you just want to play with friends
$142 Labor Day sale
Now that is a good deal for this paddle
Joola customer’s beware. I returned my Gen 3 paddle over 2 months ago and still have not received a refund. Joolas customer service won’t respond to my emails or phone calls. BUYER beware!!! I won’t buy are recommended Joola to anyone.
Thats really strange, I had no problem returning all my Gen3 paddles
@danjones5443, did you ever get your refund from Joola yet?
Helpful. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I've been using the MOD for about two weeks now. I agree that I tend to hit more out balls with this paddle, but I appreciate the extra power it provides overall. I previously had the Tyson Gen 3, and I feel like this paddle offers a similar level of power 😊
There are so many paddles out there, you want to find one that matches your power and control at the moment and if you need more power move up a notch! The ones I like at the moment are Apollo and J2K
I completely agree, too much power is not always a good thing. Also love the J2K but honestly my favorite from HPC is the J3K pro.
So what did the swingweight end up at after you added the slyce cap?
It moved from 123 to 124, but with the lower balance point, it doesn't feel slow.
So it sucks! Great I'll stick w my Volair mach 1! Love it.
Wouldn't say it sucks, but a very different paddle from the Mach 1 haha
Agreed about the handle being to thick after you over grip it. I have played with mine about 30 hours of hard hitting and it has no quality control issues. That being said I agree with you that you lose more points then you gain from the power. I will go back to an all court paddle also.
What is your all court paddle of choice?
Agreed with thinner handle. Very nice video information. Thank you for your detail honest opinion.
Thanks for watching!
thank you for the review. Did you happen to know if the 14mm will be more reliable (core crushing) and better control (since it is thinner, it will have less trampoline effect)?
I don't know if the 14mm is any more reliable. But i think the 14mm control will probably have a little more pop. I don't think the trampoline effect comes into much effect until you swing harder for shots such as overheads and drives. But generally 14mm paddles are a little harder to control in my opinion.
For this padel, 14mm has much more control
14 much easier to play with. Less of everything. Handle also smaller and less square shape. Can’t think of anyone I know that’s played with both that’s enjoyed the 16 over the 14.
While still being a rocket
@@alexandercochran806 have you played with an AB Gen 3? If so, would you say the MOD 14 or 16 plays more similarly to the AB? Is it easier to reset with the MOD 14 or 16? Thanks!
Spot on! I’ve been using the MOD for a week and totally agree with everything you said. Will be interesting to see how it compares when the 3S is released. Thank you Kevin!
From what I have heard, the 3s is a toned down version of the MOD. Would make that a very interesting paddle if that is true.
How does it compare with the Gearbox Pro Power?
I think a fully broken in PPE is more powerful, but I can't stand that paddle. Its sweet spot is tiny and such a punishing paddle. I much prefer the Mod.
