Halo Emma, i have heard alot about alipay as the major method of payment in china. If i have a teenager coming with me to china, will i be able to set up an alipay account under their name and mobile phone number in advance within my country before leaving - while connecting it with my other credit/debit card under my name (as a parent) which i havent linked to my own alipay account? Tq beforehand.. #hoping to get an answer of help 🙏
Are those food apps in english? i dont understand chinese xixi
Great information thank you! Very excited to visit China
Thanks for the great informations 👍👌
Hi Emma, thank you for your videos, they are very informative. Further to the question from @ilredellest6040, if we are using cash, is it possible to pay for Restaurant orders (using QR Code) and DiDi with cash or is that only available with a linked card in the respective apps? Some countries we have travelled to accept cash in these services, that's why the question in relation to China.
This is super helpful, thank you!!
It ill be my second time in chengdu snd third time in 🇨🇳 love it. I know a few phrases to speak but heavily relies on baidu. But it’s fun exploriand talking with people. I’ve travelled to smaller cities and very province areas.
您的视频对外国人很有帮助。谢谢您。
Very useful indeed. Thank you!
Why don't you Tell the Chinese do n don't overseas
thank you !!!!!!! I can't wait to explore China with your tips
That's wonderful to hear! I hope my tips will help you make the most of your adventure.
Ive just started planning for my first trip to China next year. Your videos are most helpful! And you are right - very few Chinese people are making them. Thank you so much and keep making more!
Enjoy your journey, and I'll keep making more videos to assist you and other travelers. Safe travels and happy planning!
Hello. I travel to Kunming and Dali in two weeks from my home in Cambodia. I am Australian and have found your video very helpful. Thank you.
Hello there! It's great to hear that you found the video helpful for your upcoming trip to Kunming and Dali. Those are both beautiful places with rich culture and stunning scenery. I hope you have a fantastic time exploring them!
Thank you very. much for the update info. Looking forward for the 10 Don'ts ! we are planning to visit Yunnan in Dec. My kids don't know how to speak Chinese, so this would be very useful...
Simple and Usefull - Thank you Emma. I wish you a lot of success with your channel ;o)
Thank you!if you have any more questions or need advice, I'm here to help! ;)
I’ve noticed you can’t send money on WeChat u less you have a Chinese bank account.
How do you use Google Translate while in mainland China?
Sometimes in the subway, connection to wechat weak and must use cash.
Very true. Thanks Emma. Would be nice if you could give specific examples of your personal experience in achieving such advance level of fluency in English without studying or working in an English speaking country. Perhaps you have attended international schools in China or have close friends who are native English speakers?
Thank you for your thoughtful question! I actually attended a regular public school in China, but I made an effort to seize every opportunity to practice. One key factor in my journey was comprehensible input - constantly surrounding myself with materials that were just slightly above my current level. This way, I was learning naturally without needing to live or study in an English-speaking country. Happy to share more if you’re interested!
@@Emma_Xi yes practise practise and practise. To be honest your English is so fluent and precise that it’s way better than any of the non native English speaking Chinese blogger on TH-cam. Well done!
Hello, Emma, thanks for advices. I have a question related to Wechat: to sign up, it requested to somebody scan my wechat qr code. How can be do that if i don't know anybody with Wechat? Xié xie
Hi! Thanks for your question! For overseas users, WeChat might require additional security verification during registration. Sometimes, this involves having another WeChat user scan your QR code to assist with the process. If that's difficult, you can also verify via phone/SMS. The steps include selecting your country, entering your phone number, receiving a verification code, setting a password, and completing security verification. Some people also ask WeChat support for assistance, but it might take a little time.Let me know if you need more help!
@@Emma_Xi Thank you for your answer. I made the sign up with email and authentiification via sms, but still is required to a Wechat user to scan my QR code.
thanks for all the info. Skipping China in favor of Japan, Korea and t h a t island. Just too much hassle in China.
Ich empfehle ein Daten Roaming zu kaufen. Wi fi ist zwar in vielen Geschäften umsonst, aber du benötigst eine Festland Telefonnummer.
Hi, just discovered your channel; very helpful information! Please keep uploading :-) Also if I may ask would you perhaps consider making video's with language tips for learning Cantonese? Still trying to find good resources for that (especially for those unfamiliar with the different tones). Thank you again for your valuable content!
Thank you for your support!
Dear Emma, Greetings from India ! I am planning to visit China and got valuable information about updates thru your videos ! I express hereby my heartfelt thanks for you. With all good wishes ! 🙏
Your support also means a lot to me. Thank U soooo much❤
Nice video. I like your artwork.
Thank U😁
Thank you for sharing. Im travelling to China in few weeks. What VPN app do you recommend I install on my phone before I arrive? I hear some VPNs don't work there
Some of my friends may use ExpressVPN😁
Great content. Thanks for sharing. Can I please ask which VPN app works best in China? I would like to be able to navigate using Google and Google Maps
Some of my friends use ExpressVPN. You may have a try:)
For a short trip, get an eSIM if your phone can use them. They have VPN built in and designed for using all your fav apps
Xièxiè nǐ jiějiě
Xièxiè you as well :P
good thx. The issue with wechat pay and alipay not always working for foreigners is , I think , the linked bank card which is always Visa or Mastercard, whereas the chinese bankcards use Unionpay. So some vendors do not have Visa or Mastercard authorisation. Maybe you could explore this in more depth and make a video because it's all very confusing
emma i need your help
I can't find baidu translate, only baidu maps.
Is complete authorization necessary on wechat, because of that limit? And why they cancel the 7-day metro ticket? This system is a bit confusing, it's really stressful for tourists, thinking about whether we have enough on the metro card and how much we need to top up.
Only can link to WeChat if you have local china SIM card?
Actually, you don't need a local China SIM card to link to WeChat. Any phone number that can receive SMS messages will work.
Thank you for the helpful ideas and tips. Yep, I've subscribed and am eagerly awaiting your next video. We'll be visiting CN soon in 6 months. We are eagerly looking forward to this adventure
Thank you so much for subscribing and for your enthusiasm! I'll be working on more travel tips and insights to make your adventure even more exciting. Safe travels and enjoy the journey! 🌏
Express VPN didn't work for me at all when I was in SH/Xi'an in 2024 - - - -There are better options, but they will refund your money :)
Hey, I’m from Germany and I wanted to ask how do I get visa because I want to stay in china like 2 weeks vacation.
Hey there! It's great to hear that you're planning a trip to China. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to apply for a Chinese visa: Determine the Visa Type: For a 2-week vacation, you'll likely need a tourist visa, which is typically a "L" visa. Find the Chinese Embassy or Consulate: Locate the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate in Germany where you can submit your application. Prepare the Required Documents: A valid passport, A completed visa application form, which you can download from the embassy's website A passport-sized photo Proof of your travel itinerary Submit Your Application: Visit the embassy or consulate with your application and documents. Wait for Approval: Processing times can vary, so it's a good idea to apply well in advance of your trip. Last but not least, it's always a good idea to check the latest information on the official website of the Chinese embassy or consulate in Germany. Have a fantastic trip, and I look forward to sharing more travel tips with you!
I am really enjoying these travel tips. I would love for the series of videos to continue!
Thanks for your support! I'm thrilled you're enjoying the travel tips. More China travel advice is coming your way soon. Stay tuned! 🇨🇳🎥
I am coming to China for a week. Your video is useful. Although you explained how important it is to use online payments, is it still possible to stay for a week depending solely on cash?
Hi there! Thank you for your message. Yes, you can definitely use cash in most places. Many businesses are accommodating to foreign visitors, and accepting cash is still a legal requirement in China, even though mobile payments like Alipay and WeChat are more common. Wishing you a great trip to China!
@Emma_Xi thank you. One thing more, my phone does not support esim. Can I get the sim card on arrival at beijing Capital Airport?
Sure, you can get the sim card on arrival at the Airport:)
hello, thank you for the information, it was very useful, I want to travel to China in September, since the visa has been removed with my country, but I have only 2 questions , that are making me think about coming there the first is the use of cash , I don't know if it is possible to use it in restaurants, metro, taxis and markets or is impossible to survive only in cash ? and most importantly, I read a lot and watched a lot of videos about moving through cities, because the maps are only in Chinese and it seems impossible? I don't know if there is an option in English? thank you and have a nice day !
Hi there! Thank you for your message, and I'm so glad you found the video useful! 😊 Regarding your questions: Yes, you can definitely use cash in most places like restaurants, metro, taxis, and markets. Many businesses are accommodating to foreign visitors, and accepting cash is still a legal requirement in China, even though mobile payments like Alipay and WeChat are more common. For maps, you can try using Apple Maps. Some friends have recommended it as a good option in China. Wishing you a great trip to China! Let me know if you have more questions! 😊
@@Emma_Xi ok thanks for the answers ,i think i will find an iphone just for traveling in china..thanks again and have a nice day

Great video! Thank you so much. I’m travelling to Shanghai for one month in September and I find it really helpful! 🩷 Do you have any tips for vegetarian food in China?
Thank you so much for your kind words! 🩷 I’m glad you found the video helpful. Wishing you an amazing trip to Shanghai in September! For vegetarian food, I recommend using the app Dianping to find great restaurants. You can set the location to Shanghai and search for vegetarian options. Use a translation app to help with the language barrier. Also, in tomorrow’s video, I'll cover how to find popular restaurants and navigate transportation in China. Stay tuned! 😊
I think people who want to travel to China need to learn using Baidu map. I usually use the English veison of Baidu map in an app called Immersive when I travel to China. Trust me, it is really useful.
Good job Emma🎉
