Hi there, and a warm welcome to my channel! I'm a classical marimbist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. On this channel I will mainly be uploading videos of solo/chamber music for marimba, often of my own arrangements/transscriptions. I plan on uploading some educational videos as well in the future to share some tips/tricks - however, I haven't quite gotten the necessary setup (and time) yet. Feel free to leave a comment or two or otherwise get in touch, and don't remember to subscribe for future videos and to help the channel grow :)
La Campanella - Solo marimba version!
Danish marimbist Anders Elten presents his new solo marimba arrangement of F. Liszt's concert etude for piano "La Campanella" - the third etude in the "Grandes Études de Paganini" series (S. 141).
The thematic material of the etude derives from N. Paganini's 2nd violin concerto - Liszt ingeniously combines the simple material with numerous virtuoso piano techniques designed to dazzle the audience. The piece ebbs and flows with contrasting A/B sections - playful, yet somehow restrained, "A" sections give way to joyful "B" sections that charge ever forward, gradually building momentum.
The technical challenges of the etude are amplified manifold on the marimba, but I tried to stay as faithful as possible to the "layout" of the original etude, preserving as many voices and techniques as possible. I had to transpose the entire etude in order to better preserve high/low contrast. The result is devilishly difficult, showcasing a wide variety of usual and unusual marimba techniques such as double octave skips, superfast triples, three/four note one-hand arpeggios, one-handed three-voice polyphony, octave + fifth intervals and "extreme wingspan" passages. I'll probably eventually tweak the arrangement slightly and then re-record it - however for now, please enjoy my first attempt at bringing "La Campanella" to life on solo marimba!
If you want to give this arrangement a go, it is now published by Edition Svitzer! Please find it through the following link: www.editionsvitzer.com/catalog/wksjxa9tus/c-23/p-2714

ARGUMENTA by Philippe Manoury - performed by Reumert/Elten percussion duo
มุมมอง 2.2Kปีที่แล้ว
ARGUMENTA (2021) is a brand new work for percussion duo by the French composer Philippe Manoury. Written for, and dedicated to, Anders Elten and Mathias Reumert, the work is scored for two marimbas, two vibraphones, two octaves of crotales and two sets of maracas and claves. Philippe Manoury describes the work as follows: "The title "Argumenta" is quite abstract but implicitly evokes a kind of ...
Paganini Caprice no 24 on marimba
มุมมอง 54K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Danish marimbist Anders Elten performs Johan Bridger's arrangement of the famous 24th caprice by N. Paganini. I recently found this old (2017) video hiding on my Google Drive - the project was never completely finished, and unfortunately the resolution is a bit on the poor side. However, I thought it might be worth the upload anyway. I hope you enjoy! Video by Karólína Thorarensen Audio by Tors...

Danish marimbist Anders Elten performs the opening movement - Toccata - of Johann Sebastian Bach's sixth partita for keyboard instrument, in a new adaption for marimba solo. About the music: The toccata from Bach's sixth keyboard partita owes much to the well-developed North German toccata-style (Buxtehude, Böhm etc), in which sections of virtuosic - and at times almost improvisational - charac...
Magnificent
Where can I find the sheet music
Great performance!!Where can I get the sheet music for this arrangement?
I'm afraid Johan didn't publish it yet! But you could try contacting him directly.
Your playing is as good as Glenn Gould’s Bach. Bravo!
I'm not sure about that! But thanks a lot - I'm happy you enjoyed it :)
Do you normally play with two different grips or was it just for this piece?
Hi! It really depends - for this arrangement it made sense to do it because of the large intervals in the left hand and the fast independent passages in the right hand. It simply became easier this way. My "default" choice for most pieces would usually be matching grips :)
Are you going to upload any new videos any time soon or in the future?
Hi, thank you for your interest! Your question has the perfect timing, because precisely yesterday I finished a recording of the entire C minor partita for harpsichord by Bach. I will upload it when the material is in my hands. Also in the spring I will start uploading some educational videos with tips and tricks. Stay tuned :)
@@anderseltenmarimba Thanks! u have a new subscriber
4:44 bro did the monster mash 😂 amazing
Is there a benefit for the beginning right hand stuff to be on c instead of d flat? Like missing less notes? Or is it just because you don’t have the very top d flat/c sharp? Also amazing playing!
Thanks a lot! Yes, unfortunately the marimba range is limited - transposing from the original G# minor to F minor allowed me to put many crucial notes at the highest note of the marimba and the lowest dominant note (C) on the lowest note of the marimba. That way the piece could better keep some of its original shapes and extremes. Would certainly have been nice with a high Db, though :)
Would you happen to have the sheet music? I have a competition coming up in a few months and would love to learn this piece.
Wow! Your timing was impeccable :) I danced in my chair the whole way through. Amazing work, thank you so much for sharing.
Haha, I am happy to hear that! You're welcome :)
Incredible!
Just out of curiosity, why do you use two different grips?
Hi, for this arrangement it is just comfortable, as you need quite some big intervals in left hand (octave + fifth) and the right hand is somewhat easier to play with cross grips :)
Wow!!!!
na
amazing! unreal!
I LOVE these arrangements for marimba! The performers are true musicians of the highest caliber. To master the art of translating such moving emotional and psychological depth of expression so gracefully. Verve and impossible aplomb with daring power! PWG
My oh my. This is just sublime. Your love for Bach comes through completely. Really enjoyed it!
MAGISTRAL
Awesome! This reminds me of this version: Genesis 1:27, So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Благодарю вас за эти радостные минуты! Чётко и прозрачно, трогает душу!
"Stevens in the left, traditional in the right because I can do whatever the fuck I want"
Haha - there's some kind of method behind the madness, though.
Genial!!! Bellísima sonoridad!!!
And very gentle at the same time!!!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it =)
Очевидно это 40часов каждый день! Гойда!
Stellare, incredibile, geniale, il talento e la bravura fatti persona. Sono rimasto affascinato e sbalordito a un tempo.
Grazie mille!
Stunning.
Do you use the different grip in your right hand vs left hand in order to get the larger intervals on the right more consistently?
Yes that's indeed one reason! Huge intervals in the left hand (octave + fifth) are nice with Stevens grip, and the flexible wrist positions of traditional grip makes the one-handed chromatic passages much easier :)
masterpiece
Can you play the piano as well as the marimba?
I only learned piano for a brief period of time, so unfortunately not!
Bravo!
Thank you!
Thank you very much for your work. It means a lot for the marimba community. You're off the charts. Keep it up !
Thanks for your kind comment!
absolut großartig.....
Vielen dank! :)
Just superb!
Amazing Job!!!!!
Thanks!
Those octaves :)
i never in my life thought la campanella of all pieces would be possible to play on the marimba yet here we are today this is incredible and you have insane talent i applaud you and all your effort :)
Haha I didn't think it would fly either. It's also only barely possible - at least for me. I'm sure other people could pull it off more easily :) Thanks for your kind comment!
Just superb. Genius in arrangements and playing. God bless you.
Tried for decades to master this on the piano. So difficult. Never made,it.
whoever arranged this is a genius
incredible
Bravo!👏👏👏👏👏🎶 Amazing performance!
Thank you very much!
Magnificent.
QUELLE PURETÉ CE SON ! ET QUELLE AISANCE ! MERCI ANDERS !
Awesome!
Haha thanks man!
Wow absolutely amazing 👏 I like that you used two differnt grips to hold the mallets. I have never seen that. Bravo!
Impossible. I’m watching something completely impossible being done. Still impossible.
Way better than that other girl's.
I could be wrong, but is he using stevens in the left and cross in the right?
Yes!
Is there sheet music for this?
Try contacting Johan Bridger directly!
Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks!
👏👏👏❤ The part at 4:43, haha love it
