Commencal Meta Power SX Review // Just buy it

My thoughts after a winter riding the Commencal Meta SX Power for the winter in Colorado's front range. Why Ebikes? (0:00) Geo (1:40) Kit (3:22) Climbing (5:35) Descending/Comparison (6:17) Power SX or Wild? (10:04) Battery (12:03)

2023 Commencal TEMPO Review // Party Tank
great video! thanks. Aside of the rear tire, do you think that the configuration in the Race version (with Lyrik 160mm + Ultimate Coil Shock) can add a little more enduro feeling to the bike or the limiting is the geo?
Nice review! Love my Meta TR Bosch for Texas Hill Country. It’s just about perfect for the trails we have.
How would you compare this to the Tempo you previously ridden?
@@justinbrown6845 great question. It feels smoother faster and longer. They named it Jibb but the TEMPO is the more playful of the two while the Jibb feels like the more stable all rounder.
Curious if you ever rode a Meta SX V4 and how it compares to this. I'm looking at the V4 as it's on discount now.
Im just about to decide if go Commencal Meta V5 or SX vs Norco Sight A1 2024.. so hard to decide, im getting bald already :) :D
@@Antoan_J I’d say the V5 will be the most playful and versatile of that bunch. Then the sight feeling bigger and the SX feeling the biggest.
Any plans to test it in the LT or mixed wheel configuration?
@@Josh-om9wv to be honest I’m liking this bike so much I’m afraid to change a thing. But I’m sure I’ll at least give LT a go in a while here.
Great video! I just found it after watching your Meta Power SX review, which is timely because I am trying to decide between the two bikes. I have a question. Where I live, there are a lot of steep, rocky jeep roads in places like Mt. Princeton and Antero. Can you please offer an opinion on which bike might climb and descend better in that type of terrain? I'm an old guy that used to ride/hike-a-bike on that kind of stuff but now I'm looking for assistance. Thanks!
@@RobWebb-c5i honestly I’d probably go for the SX with sustained descents. They both climb super well but behave differently downhill. The TR is happier in flatter terrain and the SX likes a good pitch. Hope this helps!
Great video but it's pronounced CommonSaul
@@blakemoser1682 lol my bad
Ohh.. is there a full review coming of the new Altitude? 😊
@@MTBMac you bet.
@@MTBJonnie Awesome! Looking forward to it!
This was a factor in choose the nomad over the altitude (based on some of the early reviews). I feel like I made the right call 😬
@@NB-ski I mean it’s not something you can do trailside but also took me just a few minutes.
A little bit of blue loctite and you'll never have to worry about it again.
Been riding my noMAD for a month and friggin love it. Do you ride yours in the high or low setting? Been riding in the low but thinking I may try the high. Thoughts?
@@toHelluRide low. Never felt the need to adjust but it had more to do with the ride dynamics than geo. The geo shift is minimal but low is better tuning for coil.
What kind of range are you seeing, i know it is subjective to the rider and such but curious as to what you are experiencing?
@@kevinescott8468 I can ride about 15-18 miles in steep steep terrain in turbo mode pedaling hard and using lots of juice for about 3 hours before I need to bail. But by then and riding that way I’m kinda gassed.
Thanks, another question. Did you have any observations regarding the aluminum frame versus a carbon…..I am trying to narrow down between the YT Decoy and the Commencal Meta Power SX and was wondering if you hade the chance to look at the YT. Enjoy your videos 😊
@@kevinescott8468 hey thanks! You know I haven’t been on the decoy but I can say I personally just love a metal bike. The ONLY note is when you try to grab it by the top tube, around the shock area, the metal is a little hollowed out to make space for the shock and it’s can be painful to lift the bike from there.
@@MTBJonnie thanks for the input!!
Great content keep it up! What is your take on the Jibb vs the meta V5 as an all around do everything bike?
Also how do they both compare to the more expensive ofeerings like the hightower or the ripmo?
@@petrosbass7357 great questions. I think the ripmo and Hightower are better all rounders. But I don’t like all rounders if that makes sense. All rounder also depends on where the rider lives and how they ride. For me, as an aggressive trailduro guy in Colorado I really appreciate just how solid and simple the jibb is. It rides so smooth and predictable and becomes fun and lovely when you learn where the weight needs to be. But I’ll also always have a much bigger bike with a 38 fork in the stable. As a daily driver though I’d prefer the jibb over all bikes mentioned personally.
No chill and way too much coffee.. yeah that’s definitely me!
Ordered the V1 with the sale Raaw has going on. Kinda liked the numbers on that a bit more since it keeps it more nimble and slacker on the V2. Want it to feel like a true trail bike but still capable on the downhills and it seems like the v1 will still be solid! Can’t wait to build up the bike.
thank you for the vids..looking forward for more review! keep pedaling! stay safe!
Dang, was looking for a playful park bike but seems like this ain’t it 😢
I currently do not have a rack. I am considering the 1up and the Rocky.Mounts Guardrail. It will be going off road when camping etc. If you did not have any rack to start with which would you get?
@@teresad7174 I’ve had both and would probably get the 1up if starting over with no racks.
Very nice rock slab decline❤😊 happy trails, my friend. I have a Santa Cruz tall boy as well and I love it.
Currently my dream bike, any pre-review insights for me pretty please?
@@Tequila628 smooth. Quiet. Very quiet. Sturdy. Man’s best friend.
Ordered the V1, can’t wait to build it up! Took advantage of that discount.
@@JeepinIvan_MTB considering the same atm. What shock did you choose? Ohlins looks sweet
@@Tequila628 I went with the fox float X. I think that’s the best shock if you want the bike to be playful. If you go coil it’ll be more supple and feel more planted but the bike is a trail bike. I want it to feel like a trail bike and feel lively!
Are you planning to test the Madonna too? Would love to see Madonna vs Meta sx comparison.
@@LukaszKubica you know my buddy just built a large Madonna. I’ll try to get some laps in on it.
OMG, what a physical track. You should use Olivia Newton Johns song "Let´s get physical" for the downhill part! ;-)
@@AndreasHafenscher lol yeah dude not an easy place to keep pace.
If you like testing your limits you should probably try out something like the canyon strive or the yeti sb 160. These bikes are so trimmed for speed.
That looks sketchy
NOOO WAAAY!!!!! You can't imagine my levels of stoke!
Any comparisons to the Bronson?
Unfortunately I never rode the latest Bronson so can’t speak to that.
Is the bike as creeky as people have been saying it is online?
I did not have that experience. Maybe they installed the washer kit before giving it to me.
How stiff is the actual bike? I’m thinking of getting one. Cheers
I’d say like 8.5-9 out of a 1-10 scale. It’s stiff. Def one that requires a lot of rider input on the downhill to keep things calm. But if you have the energy and skill for it, it’s very very fast.
I'am on a canyon spectral with 160mm and i want somthing bigger like 170mm I really like the v5 sx but apparently it's a really slow bike uphill do you thniks it will be a good idea?(i am faster than my friend uphill rn) and how is it possible that your size xl bike is lighter than the weight given by commencal for a size s on their weebsite? thanks in advance it s really going to help me🙌
I think the spectral is a much better climber but handles chunky downhill terrain with way less composure than this v5 sx. This bike is on the more sluggish side for climbing even amongst enduro bikes. But it’s insanely capable on the descents if you have the terrain to match. Honestly I didn’t find the limits of this bike. It wanted more than I did.
@@MTBJonnie okay so this bike is to big for my level.. so the normal v5 will be a good idea? It has the same travel(160mm)but the commencal is more capable in downhill i think
@@MTBJonnie but my friend are slower uphill so with the sx it ll close the gap or I'm going to be far back? Thank you for answering my questions, it’s nice to help me
@@helori7731 if they’re already slower than you they will probably still be slower than you on the climb. It’s not going to cost you that much.
@@MTBJonnie thanks i'm going to take it so But I'm betwin size M and L (I'am 1m80 5'9 for your language I think ) if I want to improve maneuverability I can take the M
When I call Commencal they pronounce it differently than you.
How are you feeling about this bike now? Would love to see a king term review
This is the build I’m looking at just because it comes with a thicker fork compared to the 34 the other models come with
Isn't that bike kinda heavy?
What about chain ⛓️💥 locks for the wheels? Those are easy to steal in minutes. Gotta lock them up especially with expensive carbon wheels
All it takes is riding one once then you're sold
Is it downhill capable like the meta sx?
No the SX is a completely different beast. But you lose a lot of playfulness with the SX
Nice and smooth on the Narwhal
Lol 850 is less than a kuat sherpa in Canada
850 CAD though? Y’all got that funny money.

Really looking forward to see the final review!!
The Nomad frame with coil is about the weight of the Commencal with no shock...so has nothing to do with the frame...just difference in builds. Nomad is pretty much a different ballpark and better bike.
Nice Raptor.
Initial impressions?
Base settings just feels like it tracks really well. I didn’t have really any beef with the grip2 but this does feel on another level of composed.
How much do you attribute the new bushings in the lowers vs the damper?
@@NB-ski to me it seems to have more to do with how oil is flowing.
the meta is awesome
Hi thank you for the review, im buying it ! , im 6,2 too, should I go for L or XL ? What would you do ? Thank you again
Such a tough call. I think if fun is jumping around and maneuverability, go L. If fun means going as fast as you possibly can in a relatively straight line, XL.
@@MTBJonnie Thank you for your review, I bought L and I love the bike
@@felipehenriquez6334 congrats! Hard to go wrong sizing down on an ebike to be honest.
Sick riding! I recently moved to Colorado and would love to know what trails these are…is this white ranch?
Welcome! Yup that’s white ranch.
Another nice review! Thanks! You seem to always pick the coolest bikes for reviews 🙂. How would you compare the rallon to the meta v5? Which one is a better climber and for long days in the saddle? which one is better for steep and rocky tech? Not thinking of racing just pure fun factor
Hey thanks. Honestly they both climb really really well with a slight nod to the v5 only because it fits me better. I think for long days I’d opt for the v5 for that same reason but that’s just because of the geo for me. For steep and rocky tech they both have a very active style but the rallon is slightly more composed at speed and in rough stuff.
Flex/wobble test still and while driving vs 1up and guide rail please
Great review trying to decide between this and a Turbo Levo Carbon Comp, any advice?
Personally I’d opt for the Bosch motor in the Commencal. The Levo will be a more plush ride though if that’s what you’re after.
Worth noting I just received my GuideRail 2 inch receiver rack last week and it does have a little ball/wedge that comes out as the hitch bolt gets tightened. Maybe there is a first version that didn’t get that?
