    Lightkey is great for bands that play on click with Ableton live, and have their own on stage light rig with them. You basically can program you whole own lightshow without the need of a stagelight tech during live performances.

    In case this is useful to anyone... I've been using MyDMX5 for the best part of a year now (in it's Daslight form - identical software and hardware)... The Superscenes are a game changer... Our use case is for a tribute band with a repeatable show, though the track (song) order and setlist do change depending on the event... We have to have our show self contained and able to run from the stage, without an LD. Here's how we do it: Our drummer uses a Roland SPD-SX which plays backing tracks (audio through the PA) and is also linked to the dedicated Daslight laptop via midi... the laptop is touch screen and within reach side of stage in case emergency manual intervention is required. Each song has a separate superscene associated with it... all superscenes are in a single bank to ensure that they get "released" cleanly when the next one commences. Our showfile currently has 30 separate banks will are pulled from to build the superscences. The audio backing track is duplicated within the superscene for reference only (when programming etc). For songs which don't require a backing track, we use a dummy one to trigger the scene. We assign a different midi trigger for each song which means that we can move the running order around without having to make any changes to the superscene order. Each song of the two hour show has it's own mood and lighting pallette... this allows us to synch our lights perfectly to the song transitions and in some cases, for specific beats... this all really adds to the overall show. At present, we're using a single universe (nearly full) for our own rig, with the ability to pull in an in-house universe for additional lighting as and when... we use this feature when we're playing a small venue which has some FoH spots/wash available. I'm looking forward to your tutorials David and of course Jingles... I'm sure there's plenty of features I haven't yet explored the full potential of yet. Onwards and upwards!

    These lights look amazing! I appreciate the fact "You get what you pay for" I agree the price point is ridiculous! at $1,199.39 AUD per unit is way TOO MUCH, when I have purchased a similar product for only $250 (inc shipping to AU) per unit Saving $949.39, I think I will go the cheaper unit. Thank you for all you do in this space. Great review. Cheers from Western Australia

    I'm surprised there isn't more action here! I found this video as I'm currently thinking of something similar but instead of a fixed/proprietary fixture I'd like something made to move simple payloads. For example, a lightweight backdrop frame which holds a few LED effect tubes, etc. Thinking interesting ways a band lighting rig can change throughout a show (either or between or actually during a song). Not finding a lot but thinking perhaps these types of units could be modified. I suppose weight capacity would be the problem, as one of their light fixtures is likely VERY light in weight, and there's lots to think about with careful/proper rigging...

    • @LearnstageLightingGear
      @LearnstageLightingGear วันที่ผ่านมา

      The biggest thing with any DMX winch product like this is that it must ALWAYS hold weight. If it goes slack, the cable gets all messed up on the drum and you have to respool it. They can do a couple pounds per winch

    We've got a ton of the very early versions of these in our rental inventory. Repair is super easy, the hold up well. And for the price point there's no fixture that even touches these in terms of quality, customer service, and features. You can't also find a fixture with all these features that is smaller and lighter. The only thing we've had issues with is if they take a hard hit the pan mechanism will bend and thow the fixture off track. That said the aluminum is soft enough that a gentle push in the right direction will easily fix it in most cases.

    How do you feel about this unit vs the ADJ Starbar Wash RGBW Par LED you reviewed in another video? Looking for starter lights for my band to bring to small/medium shows. I'm also looking at the Chauvet DJ bars.

      They're both really good. I like the ADJ/Elim models a little better than the Chauvet ones. I had put them side-by-side at one point, and the Mini Par bar was brighter by a little.

      Yes, exactly - as long as you have a POE switch it will provide power, or else you can plug them in to power. They get their DMX data over a network from any console that can send it.

    • @LearnstageLightingGear

      It's going to somewhat depend on the controller more than anything else. Once you set the DMX address according to where your controller patches it, then the rest of the control is all on the controller side.

    Hi David. Does Elation own Obsidian or just distribute the brand?

    • @LearnstageLightingGear
      @LearnstageLightingGear หลายเดือนก่อน

      They own it, but it's a bit odd of a structure, because in some international markets, the Martin dealers sell Obsidian but not Elation, due to the fact that the console was formerly owned by Martin. So they do appear semi-separate at times, but it is an Elation product.

      Yes, we don't do that because prices change over time, whereas we want the video to be relevant forever. Check out prices at aboveavl.com

    How are skin tones for film with the white? And is there cto or can you speak to the quality of the white and warmer white looks?

    • @LearnstageLightingGear
      @LearnstageLightingGear 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very nice, you can put it in a mode with a virtual CTO, but overall it hits really good color quality scores because it's an RGBMA source, not a typical white source with filtering. Reach out to us at gear@learnstagelighting.com for a quote!

    Thanks bro. We got 3 MX40Pro here and all of us are confused because we are so used to using NovaLCT for the VX Series and i read the manuel many times, but im so confused because i'm so used to SmartLCT and NovaLCT lmao. So thanks for the Video!

    Dartz - 50w LED engine - would you say this is more punchy than a Clay Paky Sharpy 189w lamp? 😂

      Not having seen them side-by-side, it's hard to say, but I would say they're in the same ballpark

    Wow! This is great and much needed info! These look alot like the adj evs3 and have all of the features at a lower price point! I may deal with u guys simply because yawll are really educating and adding value to the people! Thanks!

      Thanks! Yes, it's actually a slightly nicer product with a better warranty! The downside is that DVS often is slightly backordered, whereas the EVS3 is pretty much always in stock! Just reach out and we can quote both and compare them for you at gear@learnstagelighting.com
