Great question, Buttresses enhance the structural strength of walls, particularly when additional support is needed against lateral forces such as wind or soil pressure. They are a cost-effective method for improving the structural integrity of ICCF walls without complex block modifications. When placed 10 - 12’ on center Buttresses are also an inexpensive way to strengthen basements or pools.

@ Thank you! I’m contemplating using these on 8’ to 10’ foot tall basement walls that will be back filled to the top of the walls. Are there any written documents to download about buttress use that I could download from your website? I’ve looked through your available information and didn’t see any buttress use information.

This ICCF bare block is not meant for a skim coat as a finish (on interior or exterior). Plaster? Yes, 5/8” thicker greater. Drywall mud? Questionable. This doesn’t behave like plaster. Drywall panels adhered to bare block with notch troweled general purpose drywall mud as an adhesive is an excellent, super strong surface. The gray block ICCF industry has been using in the US, the above techniques since the early seventies with great success. Stucco can be used on interior walls too. A hard troweled or burnished surface to simulate a smooth plaster is another finish method that can be used with stucco. I support his request, I do agree that specific "how to" videos on finishing interior and exterior would be great source of help for the DIYers and storm ideas for the builders as myself.

We go with a stack bond because the block itself is not structural. The block is just a form that provides many other benefits. The strength comes with the steel reinforced concrete. You can use a running bond if you'd like but it is not necessary. We also believe that making the construction process as easy as possible is very important. Starting each row with the same size block and running it all the way down gives you one cut at the end of each wall. Thank you for your interest

@theperfectblockiccf I have to respectfully disagree. Even if poured solid the block work is susceptible to sheer force,think of your walls as a sail, that's the whole idea of a running bond. Best of luck.
