I used to ride my bike to heg park as a kid.
Cedarburg is one of my favorite places to walk at night. Love to see the footage of it. You must live in Wisconsin I imagine? Or fell in love during a trip?
Yes, I’m a native of WI.
Wisconsin was wonderful until it was invaded by people on its south and west border. The intruders claim us natives would not survive without their presence and trading. I think we would figure out a way to make it.
this is seriously something that you could get streaming services to buy. it's very well made. how many people are on this team?
Wow thanks so much! It’s just one.
Insane production. props to you for traveling around and gathering all this footage.
Thank you for this. As a born and raised there. (Now living in Oklahoma.) I miss this place a lot. Majority of my Family lives in Wausau. Born in Port Edward's. This series makes me feel good to be part of this great state. ❤
Hey man Would you be able to provide me some links for the music you used? I really enjoyed its like fantastical feel.
it’s all from soundstripe, I’ve really enjoyed the music available there.
THANKS FOR THIS SERIES ON MY HOME STATE WISCONSIN 👍
Lots of shots of where I live in cedarburg! Awesome job!
I really appreciate this series being put on You Tube and being made. There is so much I did not know about my home state. We had so many firsts in this state and were very innovative. I am amazed at all the things I never knew about the state I grew up in and live in.
wisconsin is easily the best state. The Fox Valley is paradise, i would do anything to go back in time and see what it was like before cities
Is this the page admins real voice?
Yes
@@placesofthepast bro admino love your voice
Still a very American city layout. Squares on squares. Nice historical buildings though.
It does look a bit like a North German port city...if you squint your eyes.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, now i live in Bavaria Germany.. i miss my city 👍 🧀 🦌
Ill be damned if this isnt the best state in the union. I now live on Chicago for school but whenever someone asks me where home is it will always be Wisconsin. I bring my Chicago friends to Milwaukee and Wisconsin and they always say its better. Its funny many lf my friends here are wisconsinites somehow u can just tell when meeting them
Grignon is French. It is pronounced Gree-No. Not Grig-Non
MN has more lakes if you use Wisconsin's definition of a lake
Fascinating design and so beautiful inside.
Great content, thank you!
Empire of France was established by Emporer Napoleon. Before that it was a Kingdom
Yes. This script is using a lower case ‘e’
I heard on Fox News that Wisconsin has a higher percentage of Hitler sympathizers than any other state.
As a descendant of the first settlers of Madison, WI, it would be interesting to hear the history behind our state’s Capital!
I would love to see one of these videos done from the view point of the native people, not by some white bloke. LOL
They are welcome to go ahead and do it. I’d definitely watch the presentation
I enjoyed the series. Thanks! But have you ever been to the Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls area? There's a lot of logging history and historic architecture there. I was bummed that there wasn't even a passing mention during talk of logging (I believe in Part 2).
Thank you, and yes, that would have been good! There were many specific places I didn’t mention, but I didn’t want it to degenerate into a list of places associated with each movement. Part of it also was time constraints for getting around and filming. I would have loved to include some shots of Leinenkugel’s!
"Very few Indians supported the uprising" According to the Narrative of Spoon Decorah, a Ho-Chunk man who lived through these historical events, almost no one (less than a handful) supported the "uprising", and in fact, the Ho-Chunk did not view it as an uprising at all. They viewed it as Red Bird randomly attempting to murder an innocent pioneer family, and were just as horrified as Americans were. The tribe turned him over to the Americans so that justice could be done. Spoon Decorah's own words on the subject: "During what the whites call the Winnebago War, at Prairie du Chien [in 1827], I was living with my people on Little Green Lake. There was among us no general hatred of the whites. Red Bird had some private revenge to satisfy, and murdered the white family at the prairie of his own accord. We were all very sorry. We had no sympathy with him. We felt that he was a bad Indian. He tried to get the rest of his tribe into trouble. I have heard of some white people who enjoy getting their neighbors into any trouble they have themselves got into. There was no feeling among the rest of the tribe, over Red Bird's conduct, except that of anger. We willingly gave him up to the whites."
It's kinda weird that you skipped over the Father of Wisconsin, but mentioned one of hia descendents offhand.
Like your Channel lot as someone who is fascinated with Green Bay and Wisconsin history. You missed one building with De Pere the Union Hotel which was built soon after the Civil War and hosted a few Presidents.
No mention of Eau Claire with logging:(
Philadelphia got a huge number of German immigrants There is still a neighborhood, Germantown, where many settled.
As a local Michigander…. I dislike the entire east. Overrun my citidiots. At least the west has space + the unbeatable views
Very cool. It blows my mind as to how they made such amazing buildings back in time. I’ve been in a lot of Wisconsin towns but it’s awesome seeing some of the landscapes from yours views and actually knowing what some of the buildings are about b
What a superb history of Wisconsin (parts 1-3). The pictures and narration provided a comprehensive view of the state. It should be a model for other state histories. ❤
WISCO❤
Very cool learning about the places in Wisconsin and its historic sites we go past and have no idea about.
Been here my whole life and still learning new things. Very informative video.
Irish railroad descendant here!
Carroll was the first college in Wisconsin. 1846. They’re the Pioneers for godsake.
Correct, first but not necessarily the oldest, as they shut down and then rebooted according to my reading, giving it fewer birthdays than Beloit. A bit of a philosophical question.
Can you do a video on the "Toledo War" and it's effects on Wisconsin?
I love all the old sayings you mention in these videos. I’m gonna have to tell my kids about the giant blue ox
Way to put great visuals to text we’ve heard a lot over the years if you’ve lived in Wisconsin your whole life
History for dummies.
Thank you for a great series. I learned a ton! Also made me appreciate the architecture that is around us everyday.
Another fact about Wisconsin is that the Kissel automobile was made in Hartford Wisconsin. An FYI thing is that the earth is divided into four hemispheres. The Northeast, the Northwest, the Southeast, and the Southwest Hemispheres. The center of these hemispheres are located on the 45-degree and the 90-degree latitude and longitude lines in each area. The center of the Northwest Hemisphere is located in Wisconsin, west of Wausau near a small community of Poniatowski. It is the only one you can literally stand on. It is in the middle of a farmers field and is accessible by a grave walkway. Two of the other centers are located in an ocean and the other is on a mountain top somewhere in Tibet or Mongolia. I wish they'd credited the music in each of these as it is fantastic! Well done series.
What a great series, I've called Wisconsin home my entire life less 4 years, and I would love to be able to stay when I retire
The Indians NEVER SOLD land! They were removed.
According to my research, they were manipulated and strong-armed, but they did agree to treaties where they handed over lands, and receive a payment in return.
You forgot Lake Superior on our north border.
I didn’t forget, it wasn’t an exhaustive list of borders.
My understanding about the Peshtigo fire was that it was one of the driest times ever. Massive drought in the area. You also had the great Chicago fire the same day. Most of Northeast Wisconsins forest have been replanted with millions of pine trees.
As a cheese person I appreciate this video👍
II am so so impressed with the series. First of all, it was beautiful in the way it was shot and the places captured. Second, it was extremely well narrated hitting a level I've never seen before on TH-cam. Wisconsin has a lot of places that are difficult to pronounce. The narrator pulled it off flawlessly. And last but not least, it was extremely well researched. It had all the notes of Wisconsin's history that I personally knew and far more. Congratulations! I'll be recommending this to all my Wisconsin friends and family.
