Can you do STS 109 launch from the shuttle cockpit with the audio?
They need a Space Shuttle in Microsoft FS 2024
NASA...Tower...You were not cleared for take-off...
The great complimentary video to the one you posted yesterday about riding into space with video from the SRBs. Now we can come back down to Earth. Perfect symmetry.
That happy laughter after touchdown made me smile 🙂
Best shuttle HUD video yet!
Why cut short? Was cool to see and hear SRB tumble down.
Love the Space Shuttle
When they started using the RocketCams on the Shuttle stack, we got some pretty amazing videos of what it was like to ride a rocket into space. Many years before this, I obtained a video from a RocketCam attached to a Pegasus rocket, which was one of the greatest launch videos I ever saw. Like the X-15, the Pegasus was launched from a B-52, then headed up into space. Watching that process unfold in real time, as if you were sitting on the rocket riding it into space, was just amazing. I used to use this video when I ran a large traveling space exhibition called Space Expo. We had a 6,000 sq ft exhibition space filled with huge models from NASA, and even a section from the original Mission Control. We had a lot of interactive events, such as doing a Shuttle Tile demonstration using a blow torch. But my favorite thing would be when I gathered people together to go watch this Pegasus video. I asked them "How would you like to take a ride into space?" Then we would go to the video wall and run this footage. The reactions were priceless, and I never got tired of it. Seeing people light up like that, and get excited about the prospects of spaceflight, was one of the most rewarding jobs I ever accomplished. Nowadays I travel the world talking about my book on the X-15 and get to see those lights go on again.
Once the orbiter was aligned to the mount points on the external tank, did the crane move the orbiter onto them? How was it locked on?
I remember Crippen and Young 1981 April the maiden voyage of Columbia before the test mission of Enterprise 1977
DID THE ATC SAY REMAIN OFF THE RUNWAY ? ? ?
It would nice to have some for STS 103 the Christmas flight
Hmm, good point, I’ll see what I have
Can you do STS 109 launch Replays
On the list, thanks for the request!
This thing flew over my house in Edmonton Alberta. Made me drop my burger,
Ha! I’m sure it did
Can you do STS 109 launch Replays

Sure can, I’ll add that to the request list, thanks
I have about 10 DVDs of this mission I recorded off DirectTV - are you all set?
Would love to compare footage to see if there gaps in my collection, would that work?
@ let me convert them over I think I have most of that mission
Filling the shuttle coverage gaps on YT per usual. This was only a few months before I started watching the shuttle. You and LM5 are the best.
Thanks! Lots more great video on the way
That was the only Spaceship we had. The rest is a capsule on the roof of a rocket 😂😂
Someone please help me out here. If one were to touch any one of the protective tiles upon landing here would they really hot or really cold?
Neither, I believe they would be warm to the touch but not hot as most of the reentry heat had been dissipated at that point
Every NTSC video now feels like the start of a Backrooms video to me.
I was there at Edwards. Watched this live.
Must of been an awesome sight!
Ominously STS 27, Atlantis, did not look nearly as good
Why "ominously"? Atlantis was just fine when it flew STS-27, no matter the difference in weathering on the vehicle. Atlantis went through the rest of the program just fine as well, and flew the final mission, STS-135. It is now on permanent display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center.
Sts-27 had some severe tile damage from the SRB Sep, it wasn’t pretty
@@Shuttlesource Yes, many missions had tile damage from the SRBs and ET foam, which went ignored until the loss of Columbia. It was as if they had learned nothing after the loss of Challenger. (Don't even get me started on Linda Ham!) In this case it just seemed like a weird comment as if Atlantis was doomed.
I saw this in Tucson in 1986 ? It was whatever shuttle was flying at the time, maybe Challenger ?
Columbia, Atlantis or Discovery if it was 1986 given the Challenger accident that Jan. Regardless, nice to see it in person!
@Shuttlesource I can't remember they opened up the Airforce base because it was coming in to be refuled on its way back to Florida .
Getting up close and personal with a Space Shuttle was always a thrilling experience. Never did do a walk around while out on the lakebed, but did have several experiences when it was in the Orbiter Processing Facility and in the Vehicle Assemble Building. A couple of the best ones were at the location in Palmdale where the orbiters were constructed. I first saw the Enterprise about 2 weeks prior to rollout. The day I was there they were just painting on the orbiter's name, which was very cool to see. I was there many times during the construction of Endeavour, literally watching her take shape, then was there to climb aboard Columbia during her refurbishment for the glass cockpit upgrade, not long before she left for Florida for the last time.
How incredible it must have been to see Enterprise in its early days-there was nothing quite like being up close and personal with the orbiters.
@@Shuttlesource It was definitely cool to see the Enterprise prior to it being seen by the general public at the rollout. I was still in the Air Force at the time, and had come back home to California on leave. I was able to finagle my way in to see Enterprise that day, and actually got a private briefing from the CEO of Rockwell. Not sure why they pulled out the red carpet for me that day, but it was one day I'll never forget. The other two such days with regard to the Space Shuttle would have to be that day aboard Columbia, then also when our company was working on Atlantis, and I was down in the engine bay (sans SSME) wiring up our equipment.
Col. Rick Husband was a great guy and Laurel clarke great lady❤❤
Cool wills willie McCool was knownsts to the Nasa family😢
Sad fot the 2nd time in space history and 17 years after Challenger, Columbia tragedy became to me Nasa finally retired the space shuttle era age
I remember seeing these beasts come into and out of Davis Monthan AFB a few times. One day I was out a few miles from the base and it took off right over us. I just kept thinking how does this thing stay airborne because it was flying at a crawl. I miss those days so much. As a kid my dad and I watched every launch and I've got a lot of the shuttle patches. Great memories
Great memories for sure!
Just about the entire planet puts their differences aside when it comes to these catastrophes
I was 2 when this happened i remember everything. This was m urder
If I remember, during these relocation flights I think they were 2 crew members, pilots in the Shuttle....
The fact that NASA took hours to say the crew were dead just about sums them up
$200 B WASTE of hard earned taxpayer $$ Defund nasa
Cool that they had the Space Camp kids asking questions.
These videos are absolutely terrific. Thank you !
Glad you like them!
Will you do STS 118 full launch countdown
Absolutely!
What a awesome video!
Glad you liked it!
You really pulled out all the stops for the STS-26 footage. Many thanks for this treasure trove of archive films from that mission.
Thanks Michelle, much appreciated
That is so cool 👍

When I was a kid I saw this and I could not believe it was real. It amazed me greatly, a space ship over a plane, WHAT THE F***.
Thank You for share all STS-26 videos!!! Thank You bringing to us Space Shuttle enthusiasts these beatiful articles!!!
Glad you like them!
Love this and the ATC!
1:59:22 Last communication with the Shuttle
SUGGESTION: MORE NASA MERCHANDISE!!!!
IT IS TIME TO DREAM BIG AGAIN.
STS 61C was the 24th mission of the space shuttle program and the seventh flight of the space shuttle Columbia. It launched from the Kennedy space Centre on January 12, 1986 and landed on January 18. It was the last shuttle mission before the Challenger accident Days later after 61C landing
Always great to see the actual news coverage from the time of these flights. That is often lost, and we only have the official NASA films to see the mission. Those are certainly important, but seeing how things are covered by the media is also very important, and also gives an immediacy to what was happening.
