Big Cedar Race Loop | Mountain Biking Big Cedar Wilderness Trails, Full Trail
Big Cedar is one of the best mountain bike trail systems in DFW. Boasting roots, rocks, and some actual elevation, it is guaranteed to get your heart rate pumping and push your skills to the max. A portion of the trail system exists on the upper section of the “mountain” while the other portion is lower. The upper section regularly dries out and opens before the lower section. Due to this you’ll often see a caution sign on the trail status, this indicates that only the upper section is open. Up top you’ll find Dragonfly, Crooked Tree, Man Bites Dog, I Can, SXSW and parts of Ranger.

    Let me start by saying that I haven't ridden any of these Frisco NW Community Trails. The Wolverine Trail is classified as a blue trail according to Trailforks but it looks more beginner-ish than the rest. Am I wrong?

    • @danielrides
      @danielrides หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct! This is an example of trail builders rating a trail against itself, instead of other trails. So while the entire trail is a beginner system, they felt the wolverine loop is the toughest one there and they gave it a blue rating. 🤷🏻‍♂

    I didn't start riding singletrack until this past July. It's interesting to see some of the old configuration of this trail. Kind of excited to see what the new system will be but at the same time bummed that it's about to be closed for a year +. I finally rode that wooden roller today.

    I went there back in 2003 a few times and it was scary as hell, but fun to ride, hardly any trail maintenance and lots of stolen and dumped things. Sketchy area as well. Very impressed with the cleanup, enjoyed riding with ya. I loved the hilly terrain and that climb to the top of the ridge and 20 ft straight down thru the little creek. Awesome.

Finally started riding again in June after a 14 year hiatus and only been dabbling in singletrack since the end of July after believing I'd never be in any physical condition to tackle singletrack trails. Only ridden Denton, Frisco NW and KJ cuz they're fairly root and elevation friendly. Finally rode (or more appropriately, survived) AH for the first time this morning. There were a couple spots on some of the rooty climbs I had to put a foot down and step over. Not going to lie: I was spent after finishing. But I'll give it another go next week.

      @@Bushwhacker909once we get onto yellow, there are a couple of alternative line options. We took the creek drop, was it possibly opposite that area? The other thing I’ve noticed is sometimes on TH-cam it doesn’t look like anything, and in person it looks beefy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      I rode blue & red today and know exactly where you’re talking about, at around 18:04 in the video. In older videos it’s a smoother ascent but I’m guessing weather and erosion have exposed those roots more. I’ve yet to clear it myself in three tries. I think with the perspective in the video it looks more subtle and he lost no time at all crossing it lol.

    Lots of videos out there with chest mounted cameras 🎥 with poor angles down anytime the riders change position- but you seem to have it dialed in. How? What’s your setup? I was thinking just mounting my GoPro on the front handle bars. 🤷

      I’m on the first gen Wahoo ELEMNT. I use my Apple Watch far more. Nowadays the computer is useful for the channel to give a better sense of speed.

    Nice ride! Arbor Hills is getting more gnarly every year 🤪. You made all the drops look easy. Kudos.

      Thanks! It was a lot more intimidating a few years back. Nowadays it’s just a grind on the climbs.

    I am going to try 7 tonight. When I rode it before I got lost and I think I missed some of the trail. And I wrecked.

    Your riding has definitely improved. Keep learning and don't let the negativity slow you down. I would say watch a few jumping videos for help for your casing. Will really make the trails safer for you.

    How much easier does it make it going up hill with the ebike?

    Gateway is a tough ride! It make you think it’s an easy ride, then the climbs! Can’t wait for them to expand it!

      Even to this day the east side humbles me! I love the plans for the dh hub, DFW needs an OZ Castle of its own.
