Homelite XL-104 Number 2
มุมมอง 2814 วันที่ผ่านมา
Another XL-104 that some IDIOT converted to points ignition and did a (expletive) bad job doing so. After serial number 2850889 the solid state ignitions used a different set of parts. Just hoping I can find the correct flywheel

Homelite XL-104, Another Ignition Rant
มุมมอง 1721 วันที่ผ่านมา
If this repair was done at a shop the mechanic literally stole 200 plus dollars from the saw owner. If the owner of the saw did this himself he was mentally challenged with more money than sense. He honestly could have bought another saw cheaper. I am so tired of incompetence. The flywheel, back plate, module, condenser, coil, and switch box were removed and replaced from this saw and a XL-103 ...

Oologahans Homelite Collection 67 saws

This is the whole collection. After I repair three saws, I will be actively searching out a decal maker for Canadian and less common Homelite saws not available from the one Homelite decal maker. One manual oiler, the Super XL67 and one manual oiler that will be converted to an auto oiler the XL-901 all the rest are auto oilers with manual override.

Another XL-104 that a saw shop mechanic converted to a points ignition for absolutely no reason other than to prove they could
Homelite XL-104 Number 2 and a Rant
มุมมอง 159หลายเดือนก่อน
I was hoping this XL-104 had the solid state ignition under it, but its not looking good. Many worthless saw mechanics strip these solid state ignition in favor of points or the laziest and most worthless just slap a chip in it. A large number of mechanics are just plain ignorant hacks that return a piece of equipment in worse condition than when they got it
Tillotson HS67A rebuild for XL-904
มุมมอง 19หลายเดือนก่อน
The XL-904 manual shows that the HS56A was in the XL-904, but as many of you know Homelite often replaced carbs during a production run, sometimes even from a different manufacturer. This XL-904 had the HS67A which was also in the Terry built XL-902 from the same era

Homelite VI-955 Air Box Replacement
มุมมอง 222 หลายเดือนก่อน
My old air box was missing the metal iD tag and I don't generally buy any saws without ID tags. If everyone did that stolen saws would be real hard to sell. The VI air box is a pain in the butt to replace and I found I had a broken muffler tab, bummer. I have several saws in the que to get straighten out or restored. this will be at least 6 months worth of work.

    Al, I know quite a number of people that would do the same thing. Lots of people do not like transistorized/electronic ignition and would rather have points. Points ignition usually will fire at a lower crank speed and is much easier to troubleshoot. I like them either way. That 904 I sent to you someone converted to points. Dean told me the electronic ignition in them wasnt good to begin with, so it was a plus to have points. I wasnt around back when these were new. Just my $0.02

      I get what your saying, but if some people didn't care for solid state ignition, why would they buy one? This was a very low production saw and I would say Homelite built very few solid state ignition saws during this era. XL-104, XL-850, and XL-870 being the only models with solid state or capacitor discharge, which is a little different. The advantage to these saws was that they were more dust and moisture resistant.

    I have the same machine but 2 wd . On my engine one cyl has zero compression in . What is special about the crank ? I havent removed my engine yet. Is the shaft tapered or straight ? mine is a 14 hp I found a good deal on a 16 hp with a tapered shaft I think tapered is for generators , pressure washers and special equipment . Does this vanguard 14 hp have a straight shaft or tapered ? do you know if its a 1'' ? Im trying to figure out if the 14 hp is tappers before someone else buys the 16 hp with a tapered shaft incase i can use it. The shroud is missing on mine so the serial # is gone , Can you pleas explain the crank situation whats unusual about it ? Thank you .

    • @oologahgardentractorandcha3055
      @oologahgardentractorandcha3055 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The shaft is tapered, nothing really special about the engines its just that it is no longer made. Generally on these engines when you lose one cylinder its due to the valves getting out of adjustment

    • @oologahgardentractorandcha3055
      @oologahgardentractorandcha3055 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to get the spec number off the engine ID tag and find the Briggs crankshaft reference chart in order to see if the taper is the right Sze comparing it to the spec number on the 16hp. Frankly it's easier to rebuild the engine than to remove the gear reduction box off the engine and find out the taper on the 16hp is wrong, or needs to be machined

    I have owned those saws for years and learned from your video that they were one year production saws. No wonder I hadnt seen others around here. There are tons of 925s around but very few 90X series saws. I never noticed that there was a choke shaft bushing missing on the 901. I am glad you have a good bar cover for the 904. Judging by the bang up job you do on your other saws, you will have these fixed up as good as new. I really like the idea of building a 901AO saw. I think you are spot on about the 901 carnage. It sure looked odd having such a nice cylinder and a trashed piston. That 904 is a good runner, im sure you will enjoy it. Keep up the good videos

      Thank you, you made it possible, BTW, did you know that ALL Super XL-925's were made in Canada? Between 1966 and 1978 Homelite made many many changes in model numbers and only slight changes in the saws, it was a marketing ploy to sell newer model saws. the funny thing is some of the real old slow rpm saws like the Super Wiz were made up into the the mid 1980's. The Super XL Automatic was made for 31 years with very few changes like paint color and ignition systems.
