My First Christmas Village
มุมมอง 63K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I bought 4 buildings and a few bits, secondhand, from a friend....so this year I thought I'd try to build a small Christmas village display for the living room. It has a railway but I've decided to scratch build a Christmas train to better suite the scale as the Hornby is a bit too small. That will be in the next video. I hope you enjoy this...and Merry Christmas to all. Tom
Blue Stuff...Emergency Track Casting for Dead Rail

Flowering Grass (to scale) for your Garden Railway
มุมมอง 2.5K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Another great discovery for ground cover in scale for the garden railway. 'Lime Moss' is a low growing plant with light green foliage that spreads to a carpet of (scale) grass. It's evergreen so it's good all year round with masses of tiny white flowers during the spring and summer. It prefers partial or dappled shade but survives well in full sun as long as it doesn't dry out.

Blue Stuff and Milliput...How I Make Copies

A short video explaining how I make replicas of parts using 'Blue Stuff' as a mold and 'Milliput' or 'Green Stuff' two part resin as a modelling medium. I also use my homemade sculptmold as a carrier for the 'wrap' mold. As I'm improving techniques with these products, I'll be making a more detailed guide soon. You didn’t show how to colour the sponge
@guywilliamson4074 it's in part 2
How to you add the green after you've used the drill? Just paint and let dry?
@@hyperchord hi there. There's a part 2 to this video where I show the colouring. All the best...Tom
@@tomjenssen7486 Found it thank you!
I like your mountain tunnels, very nice.
Never needed to cover the blue stuff with any mold.
It's just a precaution to make sure the cast doesn't warp or move slightly. When I make parts that need an accurate fit, I do this.
Put in water, then use a blender, take out the paper squeeze dry the dry it out in a oven.
Great to see you posting videos again. Wasn't sure of your status over the years. Hope to see more, best wishes Mike
Hello Mike, it's great to hear from you., my friend. I hope you're well. Yes, life sometimes drags us away for a time. I hope to be making more vids soon. I'll definitely catch up with your channel, too. All the best.....Tom
Tom how do you stop the static build up when cutting up the sponge ? I'm like a magnet to it 😅 many thanks
@nidge2822 haha yes, I know how that feels. Just mist spray some water on the shredded bits and that should settle it down
@@tomjenssen7486 thanks Tom it worked a treat ,just mixed the sponge with your paint mix now letting it dry ,and I got a hand mixer of ebay so once sponge bit are dry I will try it out .thanks for your help mate much appreciated 👍
Im amazed how realistic all this is ,i cant wait to give it a go tom thank you 😊
@nidge2822 there will be some trial and error but it's very enjoyable to make your own scenics plus there will be a cost saving the more you use it.
I'm going to the range tomorrow to see if I can buythis polly fibre wadding and some paints 😅
I'm amazed by your methods of making this foliage, I must try this the only thing I Have not got is a manual grinder or electric one ,I best see if I can find one on ebay lol
@nidge2822 yes, that was the real breakthrough. Electric grinders can get you so far but these old hand winders get the really fine stuff. All the best and good luck, my friend...Tom
@@tomjenssen7486 thank you Tom 😊

great job , wear you find the locos please
Hi there, I used to get them from a German ebay shop. I'm not sure if they a still available
Just found this .....very helpful. Have you a vidio on how you use the paint to color the foam?

Please show how you color the foam.
Hello, thanks for watching. The coloring is in part 2. All the best, Tom
What a great idea. I bought the blue Paddington set made in Vietnam and a separate Express with extra track. I removed the motor from the Paddington train and swapped over the bodyshell from the Express. I found an adhesive printed coach set on eBay which I am changing the carriages, however the couplings aren't compatible with the other sets so a bodge was needed.
what RC you use
Thank you for this tutorial I did it last night worked great

Hello Tom I’m sure I’ve commented on this before if I haven’t brilliant. Hope you’re still out there and well. Regards Fred 👌😎☕️
The cheapest way to get your foam material is to get hold of an old chair seat, lounge chair or foam mattress and you don't need to outlay any money for raw materials. The age of the material makes tearing it up easier. I colour it with the same paints shown in the video but I have a dedicated cheap coffee grinder to do my mixing in. I don't use water. I add the paint straight from the tube to the foam in the coffee grinder and it is evenly distributed over all the foam. Drying time is minimal and if any clumping occurs, it can be fixed by another quick whiz when dry. If while drying the batch is lightly pressed together in a tray, it is easy to break it into whatever size clumps you might want to use. I usually add about 5 drops of bright yellow to 1 of ultra marine blue and because of the somewhat random measuring of the paint, there are slight variations in colour of batches. I mix them together and thereby get slight colour variations throughout the whole lot. When sieving the last remains I give it a firm rub over the sieve and usually manage to get a considerable amount extra of the fine flock.
Use a beard trimmer!
the price of that is disgusting. thanks for this video
You're very welcome, I hope it helps. All the best, Tom
What trees are you using? Looks like a dwarf of some kind

How Do you paint your base materials after the grinding of the sponges I was lost
Love the idea. I just prefer spraypaint (clear or any other colour instead of hairspray. The scatter seem to stick better with spraypaint than on hairspray. Hairspray tend to loose its tack after a while.
