Hello everybody!
My name is Sandra Tranquilli. I am a wildlife conservation biologist, zoologist, and ethologist, and the founder of Little Wildlife Explorers. This is an educational initiative with the main focus to learn more about life sciences, animal behavior and conservation, and in general the importance of nature in our daily lives. I am happy to share with you footage from my wildlife cameras about animals living in the Bavarian forests. In particular, I am very excited to show you their behavior during night and day when no humans are around ;-D

What robins use to build their nest

A couple of robins are building their nest nearby and they are collecting moss from the log. Robins, as also many other bird species, use moss for two main reasons: 1) to make soft and warm the internal 'cup' part of the nest where the eggs are laid and where the chicks will stay while growing, 2) to 'camouflage' the nest, so that predators can not detect it in the forest when this is built in ...

A jay stopped at our observing tree log for a rest and puffs up its feathers. Birds often to this to trap air between feathers as a way to keep warmer. Feathers provide a remarkable insulation against the cold, this is often seen during winter. #wildlife #wildbirds #forest
What happens when a fox visits the nest of a wren? (leave audio on)

The wren is one of the smallest birds in Europe. It builds its nests in cavities or on tree barks and it is extremely camouflaged. In this footage, there is a nest under the log roots, the fox can smell it but not see it. In the meantime, the wren is mobbing the fox making an alarm call, thus capturing the attention of other animals, and trying to distract it by flying from one side to another....

Gute Beobachtung. Er ruht sich wahrscheinlich aus. Das Foto wurde an einem sehr heißen Tag aufgenommen und es war wahrscheinlich zu heiß, um im nahegelegenen Haus zu bleiben. Er sieht vielleicht nicht gut aus, da sich sein Fell für den Sommer verändert - viele Bereiche ohne langes, graues Fell. Er hat eine Infektion in der Nähe eines Auges (der große Pickel neben seinem rechten Auge), was bei Wildtieren häufig vorkommt 😉😃🦊🦊🦊

Badgers are only active at night. However, in summer (due to the short nights) you can also admire them in daylight. Greetings and continued success.
