Hello! If you're reading this chance's are you have been in involved in the world of motorcycles for a long time like myself.
My name is Kevin and back in my old racing days my nick name was KJ, hence the TH-cam channel name.
My home is Australia and my motorcycle passion started at the age of 14 and now in my sixties it's stronger than ever.
When I started we didn't have track days, we just joined a motorcycle club and went racing.
Motocross, Dirt Track, Enduro and Road Racing....mostly club level or state stuff and I enjoyed every moment.
I started my youTube channel back in 2011 but I've deleted those old videos because those riding videos were a little too illegal in my home state 😂
This reborn channel is all about sharing the knowledge I continue to gather and I hope to build a fantastic community where we enjoy the riding, the discussion and modification of our bikes....see you there!

The Suzuki Hayabusa is a great all round performance motorcycle and I think with a few mods can be more comfortable for us older riders that are young at heart. With the added benefit of better braking and cornering it's a win win.

In this Part3 video of my GSX1300R the busa gets the measurement treatment of the new Woodcraft Clip Ons. I'm now more confident this handlebar mod will improve both comfort and handling of the busa. If you suffer from a sore neck or sore hands on long rides this may help you too.
Suzuki Hayabusa Gen1 with Woodcraft 75mm Rise, Side Mount Clipons. Unboxing and trial fit. Part2
มุมมอง 4793 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Suzuki GSX1300R problem with the stock handle bar set-up is clearance of the fairings and instrument unit/dash on full Left lock when proper modern radial master cylinder brakes are fitted. The mod I'm doing in this video could be the solution I'm looking for too provide steering clearance for the Brembo Radial Master Cylinder and better rider ergonomics.

Rebound dampening is the key to a smooth ride. After setting the suspension sage of your bike with you sitting on the bike, go to the manufacturers recommendations for Rebound. Silver gen1 Busa for country riding and track days. Black gen1 busa, lowered for the drags and riding around (but engine in pieces because of the 2nd gear problem. @@cecilwilson5442 I would go down to the drags on the Wednesday nights. For an about 3 years in a row. The silver busa, the black busa and the gsxr k6. It was really good for learning about engine tuning and clutches. But track days are more enjoyable for me, tests my skills much more. But more easier to crash doing the track days…. That’s why I had so much trouble with overheating brakes on the busa doing track days. But once again, it’s learning by having a go. Everyone is there just to enjoy the experience. On the roads here, if caught, it’s heavy penalties. Thanks so much for your comments, I appreciate your thoughts.
Yes that's right with the camera,,but the bike test is a three part now, with different power modes , and you really have to want to ride as it's a long process 😭😔😭,, to get a bike over 48 bhp,,car test if you can afford insurance get what you want,,,😢☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland nice bike meet
@@cecilwilson5442 I watch the guys from 44Teeth on TH-cam and on their monthly? episodes of “The News” they talk about the state of the motorcycle industry over there and mentioned the costs and insurance costs. It’s a real problem. As I’m a Baby Boomer I think we all got into bikes but today, the kids of 17yrs aren’t interested in riding. 17 is basically the age for a license here, I think. Not 100 percent sure.

So glad you could confirm this for me.....When refitting the back wheel with the new tyres I noticed that the axle nut was on the right hand side and my silver busa is on the left. And I thought, which way is better or doesn't it matter so I carried on, feed the axle in from the left, adjusted the chain and tightened everything up and noticed that it didn't have a variation of tension in the chain slack- it stayed the same as I had adjusted it...So thanks mate for confirming this, I appreciate the info! I'll swap the busa axle around too ☺
Nice TLR ! I just finished mine after 7 years building it! I need new tires also!
Your TLR must be absolutely awesome....congratulations on your hard work!
I always wanted a Yellow or a Blue/White version of this beast. I always knew these were kinda meh compared to the other Litre bikes of the same period but I just LOVE that 1000cc high compression 90* V Twin roar. Keep up the good work and nursing that beautiful relic. 😎👍
Same here! I always had tunnel vision of the inline fours but the TLR sounded better!
Keep an eye out on the gas pump gasket. It's known to leak gas right on top the engine.
Yes, it leaked already! Before our winter break here I took the TLR for a country run, (the owner rode his new bike and I rode the TLR) and by the time we got back the o-ring was leaking. Luckily he is a motor mechanic so a new one was fitted properly and it's good so far....
Nice old bike KJ. I really liked the ride on the Firestorm and in particular a friends VTR SP2 The vtwin would make a great track engine, (still prefer the Busa engine😜)
I know you're right! But maybe with some changes the TLR could be fun on the road and some track days. Yesterday I took it out the back roads and it blurred my vision on the bumps which I know on my silver gen1 busa would not have been a problem... but the TLR is lighter and a lot shorter so it's obviously more agile. Doesn't head shake over the bumps so that's a good thing..... 😂
Gday great video , can you tell me if the front brake pads rattle over rough ground I have an 02 Suzuki bandit 1200 with the same brakes that rattle
On the back of each caliper is the stainless steel pad cover bolted into position by two allen bolts. The job of this stainless cover is to put pressure on the top edge of the pads to try and stop the pads from see-sawing on the one pin in the middle of the pad. When the pad rocks back and forth the pad touches the claiper at each end. That's what you hear, each end of the steel backing plate of the pad hitting the caliper housing at each end. That's what I've found on my busa.
Thanks for the reply so this noise is normal?
@@oldpop2042 It's a symptom of a relatively long pad with a pivot in the middle, not a great design I reckon. Try and get the stainless steel cover to put more pressure on the pad or like I've done, change the calipers to something else. I hope that helps.
Thanks mate👍
Pls research chain slack for the tlr. It's crucial for setting rear suspension on this bike. Too tight and it binds making the shock feel hard but it's the chain at the end of its length messing up the travel of the swing arm.
Thanks mate for that info. I'll be very careful with that chain adjustment. Good to know.
I have an 03 SV1000N . . . and it's a TOTAL SHIT SHOW OF SCIENCE AND BLACK MAGIC just to adjust the drive chain w/o getting it too tight or too loose by the time you tighten your big axle nut to final torque. 🤦♂️😞
@@GIGABACHI What side is your axle nut? Right hand side or left hand side next to the sprocket? I just noticed this TLR the axle nut was on the right. My busa is on the left and the final adjustment moves on the busa. But the TLR with the axle nut on the right gave me no problems. Another guy told me in the comments and he was spot on.
Great vid Kev, the TLR is coming aloing nicely! With the old decals, try warming them up with a heat gun on low, just to soften the vinyl and they may just be ok, give it a try, it's worked for me in the past. Keep posting mate, really enjoy your laid back way of talking and explaining things I lived in Perth from '83 to '86 and being a young 25 year old Kiwi bloke absolutely loved the place. It's great see the vids on the roads you film... brings back good memories!
Perth has grown a lot but the back roads are still the same. Thanks for the tip about the decals. I stuck the right hand tank decal on first dry after struggling to peel the backing tapes off. The left hand decal I used the wet method in case I didn't get the postion right and it went well. Then the big "R" decals on the fairings was a complete disaster. I just couldn't peel the backings' off without the decal peeling apart....The Rim stickers went really well with soapy water and the the hair dryer to remove the water and any air bubbles but I must admit I didn't think about preheating the old decals before peeling... thanks.
Those rotary dampers aren't very good on normal roads, my tl1000s over worked itrear tyre because the rotary damper wasn't uniform in action.....I bought my bike new in 1997, actually really liked it.
I also hear the TLS would overheat the damper more easily than the TLR because it's tucked further in on the bike. Sounds like we need to buy a fancy new aftermarket rear shock that works! 🙂
Coming along nicely!
Thank you. It's certainly a lot safer now. But yesterday on a fast back country road the rear suspension was giving me blurred vision because of the rough ride. Got to fix this.
I fitted a Bitubo rear shock to mine, works a treat
@@paulwatts3362 thanks, I don’t know much about Bitubo. I’ll have to check them out and see what is available in Australia. More great info!
不可思议❤
Thank you, I'll keep working on it.
I believe I watched a guy get rid of all the over engineered rear suspension chunks. Put in an all new mono shock. Lookin at a blue & white '02 next door in Cali right now... I'll be hangin out here with ya for a bit if you don't mind. Cheers from AZ🌞🏜
I'm interested in the Hyperpro Suspension offering for the TLR.....one day in the future hopefully.
Beautiful bikes! Will have one in stable some day 👍🏻
@@seano89 Thanks mate. Right now I’m reinstalling the wheels with new tyres and the forks with new seals. I hope you can find a good one!
Drooled over them as a young teen and the S model and the VTR's. good luck with the build buddy
I'm putting decals on the petrol tank right now...nerve wracking! Thanks ☺
They do have a beautiful bark to them. I really wouldn't mind another 1000cc v-twin from Japan for modern times. I miss the late 90's early 00's and was blessed to have experienced it compared to the direction Japanese engineering has taken us. I still have an 07 bandit but I'll never let go of BMW until I can get a H2 in my garage.

I’m about to buy my first TL after 20 years of wanting one. I’ll be watching your build as I build mine. Thanks for the video
@@Jus600RR So glad you found one! The TLR I bought has had a bit of a hard life so I don’t think I could restore it to original condition but rather just improve what I can. But hey, just the noise is worth it! Good luck with yours :-)
Did you ever have trouble with your ecu my mind stopped working bike won’t start only runs when it’s bypassed
@@shelleywhite9855 hi, I have not had any or heard of any problems with the stock Suzuki ecu. I would suggest you take your bike to a good motorcycle mechanic. Best wishes…
the ecu was known to have a bad fuel pump resistor and when it went, it would crank but would not register and thats the cause...ive got one..u need to find a donar to test it out
@@moystonadv3651 I wouldn’t be surprised if the TLR ecu is a basic unit like the very first gen1 busa’s. Because Suzuki changed those for the 2002 ( roughly ) year model and up.
@@KJmotoplus hey very rarely go, but if they do, its the fuel pump resistor
@@moystonadv3651 thank you. More valuable info. 🙏
I looked hard for a TL1000R back in the day but could never get one past the Minister for War, I certainly couldn’t afford an SP1. I settled for a VTRF TWICE, disappointed. Now riding a GSX1250FA and happy with the Bandit.
A friend of mine has a collection of bikes and he tells me the Bandit has a good strong torque curve. A really good country road bike. Yes, the SP1 or 2 are out of my price range too.
@@KJmotoplus yeah, max torque on the Bandit is at 3750 so no need to wring its neck. The previous owner of mine had the ECU flashed and added a full Yoshi system so the figures are fruitier than stock. I must be getting old cause it’s fast enough.
@@tombeespoke9384 My friend replaced the rear shock of his Bandit with an Ohlins. He said it made for a more comfortable and controlled ride on our weekend two day trips.
@@KJmotoplus thanks, will look into pricing for the shock. Am planning on lots of trips so Givi will be getting a heap of my money too.
Have a K6GSXR and an SV 1000 both have Ohlins and forged aluminium wheels,, exhaust system you got is excellent,,but a full Sato racing on the GSXR,, excellent video ☘️☘️☘️☘️😅 from northern Ireland
I’m so jealous! It would be a dream come true if I could get new wheels and suspension….. maybe if I keep making good videos I’ll get there. Thanks mate for your info and for watching. From Kevin in Perth.
Had one myself, these things are rocket ships and wheelie machines! And being low, handle rather well round the bends!
Seems like their following is growing 22 years later! Suzuki could easily make an updated version with the V-Strom 1050 engine. Yes, aren’t they short, the long tail piece contradicts the short wheelbase. I’m glad you have fond memories…
Should be good, quite liked the TLR, they put out much the same power as the vtr1000sp1 and were pretty comfortable 👍🏻
Was the VTR1000SP1 more expensive than the TLR? I think so, I don't see many around here. The TLR has a really nice engine and gearbox feels just like the busa. The bike is nice and light compared to the busa as well but I can't comment on the handling yet because of the worn out tyres. Yes, seating position is fine but I need to sort out the suspension...thank you.
@@KJmotoplus do these have the much vaunted rotary damper in the rear suspension many an owner used to change the TLS ones for a linear type
@karlvanboxel561 yes mate, mine still has the original Suzuki rotary damper setup. I’ve seen some of the aftermarket shocks available. Beautiful things for sure. I read the reason why the original wasn’t very successful was the damper only has a small quantity of shock oil and it overheats. I’ll have to look into that for sure….
Interesting 👍🏻👌🏻
I'm running similar suspension setup, gold valves/ springs f & r. I'm running Gen2 shock, as it's 10mm longer. Metzeler Racetec K3's are awesome. th-cam.com/video/IAJmIFFwXR0/w-d-xo.html

Great setup you have there Kev! I went for the ABM top yoke kit on my Busa, I'm running a radial mount Nissin GSXR master cyl, here's my bike so you can see the difference . . . I'm old enough to have raised bars too lol th-cam.com/users/shortsCjwqHxW2bGs?si=XYgvhgYh0s9hAP0T

Thank you, we try.
You are a natural mechanic/engineer/technician.
Thanks mate. All I need now is money and time 😂
Nice one Kev, thanks for taking the time and effort to creating these vids, I enjoy all things Hayabusa..( I have a Gen 1 ‘99 model) and I also have changed the OEM bars to after top yoke with Renthal bars. So much easier to ride, for an old Kiwi it’s a big help! Keep posting vids and technical info, and post up some track riding too! You ride well mate.
Thanks mate for the encouragement! As you know, making the videos takes a lot of time and so many technical issues but I think I may have reached that turning point where the videos are getting easier to make. I find I never stop buying gear. Or changing settings. Wind noise/audio has been the most difficult thing, I delete so much footage because I hate it. Yes, I considered the Renthal type of bar conversion but kind of chickened out and went for a in-between set up. I'm glad your top yoke mod was a success! As for the track days, yes but when I sort out new better brake pads and better tyres for that sort of use. I've reached the limit of what I was using before.....Oh! And look after that '99, they are worth a bit of money for sure.
I always found the bars took the edge off of comfort and control (when using it as a sport bike). Your mods look like they'll be a great improvement. How much have you reduced the overall weight of your silver Busa ? Your videos keep making me want another Busa !
Yes, I agree. The standard bars are good for getting your chin on the tank at the drags or high speed runs but a bit more leverage in the corners and slightly more of an upright seating position is what I'm after. I did weigh the silver busa many years ago but I would be guessing now of what the weight was so I will redo that and make a video of it. Good idea, thank you.
i recommend this great bit of kit. I have one myself. abbastandsaus.com/
I just want say a big thank you to my subscribers for all the support and I appreciate your kind words.
Interesting 🎉👍🏻
Very! :)
How many of those aluminium subframes did really snap? I heard its was in some case a combination with 4-1 full exhaust, passanger, bad welds on a few frames and overload. Stock exhaust takes some of the weight. Great videos!
The original aluminum alloy ones do snap at the casting where it bolts to the top mount bolt of the main frame. Two up or one big guy and lots of luggage will do it. The design is lacking diagonal bracing or a double mount design at the top mount (double shear) or the casting replaced with billet aluminium alloy welded into the alloy tube instead of the weaker cast alloy. There is a mod to fix this problem though. It's a plate bent to attach to the top bolt and running down to the passenger foot peg mount bolt holes. I don't know how many but to this day they are still breaking. There was a recall for them to be replaced with an exact copy in steel but it's ridiculously heavy.
@KJmotoplus From what read somewhere there wasn't a recall. Suzuki first offered a steel subframe for the 99/00 bikes and then changed the subframe to steel on all bikes from 2001. I had the 2001 model with steel subframe. (Got stolen). Bought my 2003 model in 2007, still have it.
@KJmotoplus I've seen that support bracket your talking about. Not that hard to make by yourself, but there was a kit available too.
@@H-M-78 I haven't heard of a kit, that's interesting. I've bought 3 aluminum subframes from the wrecker that had been removed /replaced by the steel subframes with no damage. It would be nice if we could buy a aluminum subframe that was made for all the original mounts but of better design and materials, 🤔
@KJmotoplus I also have an undamaged aluminium one I bought to do some weight saving. It just had some corrosion so I send it away for powder coating. But it's been on the shelf for a while now, not sure what to do. It's nice to have a passanger without thinking about the frame will snap 🤣 Adding support brackets will also add weight: ) Together with litium battery its a great and pretty cheap weight saving, but my litium battery gave up so now I have led battery again....unfortunately
Love the setup for those woodcraft clip-on risers. My condolences for your loss, man.
Thanks very much for your kind words Jaysen. I lost my father 2 months ago and sadly my mum has not very long to go as well, (any time now). Thanks mate.
Can't wait to get started on my 02 Busa project. Picked it up from a guy that let it sit for 6 years. Gotta do the tank clean first. Then it's battery, plugs, oil, filter and diagnose time!
@@joshuaanothereraseddad Don’t forget the injectors. Should be a fun project!
I own an original 2000 PC2 mapped for the Muzzy ful TI exhaust. The change is pretty dramatic .over 4 grand the power is increased markedly and the tire raises easy in 2nd gear. That’s the best way to describe it other than savage , loud, mean and do not twist to hard or you may regret it.
Great tutorial Kev. 😎👍
