Numismatic Notes with Benjamin
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 31 ธ.ค. 2019
Benjamin is a numismatic researcher, a master gardener, and a school librarian. He loves what he does, and would enjoy helping you with the story of your coins and banknotes. With his videos, Benjamin hopes to inspire and educate using the interesting medium of world banknotes and coins.
God Save the Queen
I whistled this anthem.
Two years ago, expecting...and still caught by surprise. This was the one person I had always hoped to meet. I liked her from my childhood. She had been Queen for 20 years by the time I arrived in the world. I always thought I would at least see her in person someday. I knew she was as close as a letter. I bought beautiful stationary. Impressive older stamps, that I thought she might like for her collection. And even as a boy who was left handed, I spent a lot of time making sure that I had decent handwriting.
What I did not have was courage. She might have liked a post from a little boy in Oklahoma who grew up in very rural places.
Treasure those important to you. Let them know.

A Crusty Banknote Theme
มุมมอง 126วันที่ผ่านมา
MMMM...seafood. And the thought of drawn butter...I could just die...of happiness. Crustaceans are on of my favorite foods to enjoy. Whether its lobster...or the spiney little old bitty lobsters that cruise ships try to pass off as Maine lobsters on cruise ships...or the delicious crabs that you can get with brown gravy in New York City's Chinatown. Or even shrimp by the bucket. The world just ...
The Four Pillars of Modern China
มุมมอง 88วันที่ผ่านมา
This lovely note honors the four heroes of modern China. Zhu De, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, and Mao Zedong are honored on the 100 Yuan. Mountain vistas from the cradle of the Chinese Revolution are detailed on the back of this note. #worldbanknotes #banknotes #china
Noah's Ark
มุมมอง 82วันที่ผ่านมา
40 Days and 40 nights...smelly groups of animals...and the nose blind family who saved them... Lots of animals appear on this Banknote. It is a lovely biblical themed note as well. You can find Mount Ararat, a reliquary, a monastery, doves, camels, eagles, horses, cows, bears, lions, and leopards, (Oh my!), as well as goats, dogs, wolves, cranes, storks, geese, owls, rabbits, and chickens...and...

Zebras are fascinating beasts. Close relatives of the horse, they are endemic to Africa. Here is a small group of notes that depict zebras as the vignette, the watermark, the heraldry, or even lathe work. Can you add to the list? #worldbanknotes #banknotes #zebra
US 500 Dollar Bill Follow Up...
มุมมอง 114หลายเดือนก่อน
Recently a small group of 1000 and 500 dollar bills came in over the counter of the coin shop I go to. I posted them. I received feedback. Good and bad. When I followed up with the bad, and was given no other reason that these notes were fake, and told to look again, that they were a numismatist with 47 years of experience. Well, the notes have been graded. They were all authentic and are now g...
New Japanese 1000 Yen
มุมมอง 800หลายเดือนก่อน
On July 3, 2024, the nation of Japan issued a new series of banknotes. Japanese banknotes have some of the best security, engraving, and visual beauty seen on any modern note. This new family is no exception. Under the Great Wave off Kanagawa, an artwork by Katsushika Hokusai appears as the main theme of this Banknote. #worldbanknotes #banknotes #hokusai
Harry Potter and the Fantastic Banknote Collection
มุมมอง 200หลายเดือนก่อน
I laughed and cried with Harry. I was not even interested until the 3rd book was released, and not really hooked until I saw the first movie. I was completely taken with the skill of the writer. And I have to say...the keening emotion I felt within the first 10 seconds of the Deathly Hallows movie still reduces me to watery eyes when I linger on the memory... I have often thought of Harry Potte...
US Thousand Dollar Bill Follow up...

About a month ago I was able to take a peek at a small horde of 1,000 Dollar Bills of the US and 500 Dollar Bills of the US. All were sent off to be graded. The 1,000s are back! All were real, and several are also conditional rarities! Enjoy! #uscurrency #worldbanknotes #banknotes
Sri Lanka 1979 Banknote Family

In 1979, Sri Lanka released one of the most beautiful sets, or families, of banknotes that have ever been released. Based on the art work of Laki Senanayake, these gorgeous notes were extremely well designed and thought out. More than 35 flora and fauna are identified by scientific names, each side of the note has all flora and fauna harking from the same elevation and biome. There is even cele...

The Zodiac Notes of Macau
มุมมอง 1543 หลายเดือนก่อน
Beginning with a dragon themed note issued in 2012, Macau issued a series of banknotes from the Bank of China and from the National Bank Ultramarino with the twelve animals of the Asian zodiac. Issued in red for good luck, this is a splendid series of notes that is relatively easy to put together. In addition to the dragon, other animal themes include: rabbit, tiger, ox, rat, pig, dog, chicken,...
A world of shells...
มุมมอง 1994 หลายเดือนก่อน
A very very shelly group of notes. All the notes in this themed grouping have something to do with shells. Shells are the name of currencies, security features, statuary, and more! I can't promise that all the conches and oysters will not make you hungry. But I promise you can have your fill. Add some shell notes to your collection today! #banknotes #worldbanknotes #banknotescollection

New sub from your video with @PolarCurrency. Your resume is more than impressive! Those 1000 notes were great, on my want list.
Thanks for subscribing. I hope you will enjoy the videos.
Very interesting theme!
So much fun! Loved the "Theme"
This one was fun!
Awesome note!
This an absolute monster of a beautiful note.
I really love the colour gradient on this note.
It is awesome to see.
Heard of your channel from @PolarCurrency. I am on the path of trying to collect banknotes from every country as well. Looking forward to binging your content!
I started out trying for a banknote from every country. Enjoy the process!
Wow. Awesome. ❤
Hello, dear Benjamin, I really enjoy watching your beautiful videos. I live in Iran and I have been collecting banknotes for several years, but unfortunately, most of the banknotes that I see in your videos do not exist in my country so that I can add them to my collection. Now, thank you for making these videos and introducing us to other banknotes⚘⚘⚘
Greetings! How sad these banknotes are not available...yet! Things can always change...Do you have a theme or a specific country you enjoy collecting? May I ask where you live in Iran? I hope that someday I can visit Persepolis...please be safe. I am glad you enjoy my videos.
Greetings, dear Benjamin, yes, unfortunately, many of these beautiful banknotes do not reach the hands of us collectors inside Iran. I really enjoy seeing pictures of banknotes, such as those of small countries in the Caribbean, such as Bermuda and Barbados, and I hope that one day I will be able to answer your question. I live in the outskirts of Tehran, the capital of Iran, in a small town called Hassan Abad. You mentioned the very beautiful and ancient place of Persepolis. Yes, I visited there. Walking in Persepolis really takes a person deep into history. I hope that one day I will welcome you in this beautiful country. Be my own history@@NumismaticNoteswithBenjamin
is the post office safe to use? you may be able to swap through the mail.
@davidwordsworth5584 unfortunately in terms of the US, I am not sure post is possible. Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, North Korea, Cuba...I think are nations we have no postal arrangements with...
I hope things can change. Meanwhile...I wonder what nations have relationships thru the post offices with Iran?
Grigore Antipa (Romanian pronunciation: [ɡriˈɡore anˈtipa]; 27 November 1867 in Botoșani - 9 March 1944 in Bucharest[1]) was a Romanian naturalist, zoologist, ichthyologist, ecologist, oceanologist, Darwinist biologist who studied the fauna of the Danube Delta and the Black Sea. Between 1892 and 1944 he was the director of the Bucharest Natural History Museum, which now bears his name. He is also considered to be the first person to modernize the diorama by emphasizing the three-dimensional aspect and first to use dioramas in a museum setting. He is the scientist who reorganized the Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History in the new building that today bears his name, designed by the architect Grigore Cerchez, built in 1906 and inaugurated by Carol I of Romania in 1908.[2] He was elected as member of the Romanian Academy in 1910 and was also a member of several foreign academies. Grigore Antipa founded a school of hydrobiology and ichthyology in Romania.
@@MrUltrasilvanus thank you for sharing so much more information than I ever could have!
A crusty video from a crusty numismatist! Just kidding - love the topic and it made me hungry. LOL.."You can eat anything with the right sauce" - TRUTH!
So true!
When you're saying Lau, are you meaning Laos?
@shawnangie1 yes.
Nice!
Thanks!
There are two issues of this note a 1980 and 1990. This series of notes is beautiful from the 1 jioa all the way to the 100 yuan. They no longer make a 2 yuan note so this is the last series that has one. Yi Bai is pinyin for 100 hundred. This was one of the first set of world currency I ever had. My sister in-law got it for me.
@@davidwordsworth5584 it's a great note.
Any insights on the men on this note?
@@NumismaticNoteswithBenjamin Zhu De was the real military leader of the CCP. He was the one that made the military from the local population and they helped the locals instead of stealing every thing they could like the KMT army did. Mao was the political leader. Zhu was purged but not killed by Mao. Apparently Zhu was supported by Chou. Zhu was critical of Mao's biggest mistake the great famine in the 1960's. Mao was a little thin skinned with criticism like many political leaders. Zhu was also leader of Chinese forces in the Korean war. He was a military man through and through. Lui Shoaqi was almost Mao's successor but again was critical of Mao's early policies that caused the great famine. He worked with Chou to make economic reforms that helped the people. All four of these men close in age and worked together and they were the pillars of communist China.
American banknotes should’ve made their way in here, the 5 and the 50 are the only ones with suits and ties
Since I live in the USA, and I collect world banknotes, it took me a bit, oddly enough, to consider that US banknotes could be included. Thanks for including them in the comments on the video. I hope more folks would include any notes not included in the videos.
Just heard a story today that kids who grow up in homes with a lot of humor tend to be healthier. Dad jokes rock even though my kids would roll their eyes and disagree.

Zambia 50 Kwacha has a Fish Eagle not a vulture. Congo 5000 Fr. are Guinea fowl.
I did notice the guinea fowl. We called them guineas on the farm back in the day. I was actually clueless about the fish eagle. Thanks for educating me. Do you happen to be able to identify any of the zebras?
@@NumismaticNoteswithBenjamin on Rwanda notes it would be the Plains Zebra (which used to be called Burchellii) . The same for Congo but only in one National park near Zambia. Same goes for Rwanda, very little space for zebras in the wild. The easiest place to see them is in Kenya and Tanzania. The Malawi Maluzi note is quite striking and one of my favourites (my Malawi collection is complete with all signatures, dates, colour trials and specimens plus replacements.). The Plains zebras in Malawi and Zambia as well. The Botswana and South Africa would feature the Chapman's zebra, which is reflected on the Botswana coat of arms........one distinction is it has stripes extending down past the 'knees' as compared to Plains zebra that fades to white. So Thomas De La Rue got that right on their design/engraving of the coat of arms.
@kamuzu love this! I'm impressed with color trials! The closest thing I have to those aren't really color trials...but all the different colors Yugoslavia would use to print the same design everytime their currency changed...
From where do you buy the plastic covers for your notes?
Greetings. I get my holders from a local coin shop, who gets them from a supply company called Uline. I believe they may be comparable to what is available online in the European market...
Fantastic group video! Zebras! I think I have to get that 1978 100 from Rwanda - great note, very distinctive. And love the Dad jokes!
Did you happen to see the new Japanese 1000 yen video I did?
You will absolutely love the quality of the watermark...
@@NumismaticNoteswithBenjamin Yes I got it about 3 weeks ago
The 1978 Rwanda note really is beautiful.
Is there a non-African note with a zebra? I only have the South African note. The Rwanda notes are good.
Antigua & Barbuda has a foil banknote from the early 80s with a ZEBRA butterfly...
@@NumismaticNoteswithBenjamin I don't accept it. That is like saying there is a Mexican monarch on their banknotes and we know there is no King of Mexico.
Great video on Zebras. I like the 1978 Rwanda note best. I also like the zebra watermark, that was news to me.
🇲🇻👍
Loving the Santa beard mate! I've come across many deeply arrogant dealer/collectors and numismatic shows. I find some of them to be anti-social and others outright hostile. I found a few good guys who are really passionate and pleasant and only seek them out at shows.
Those are the true treasures in the hobby.
Beautiful note and great research!
Glad you liked it!
They are the real deal! Don't know what it is but I like the $500 better than the $1000 and I think you pointed out the Guilloche printing along the border - pretty unique for U.S. Currency (nothing compared to many world notes). Thanks for sharing.
I have always appreciated lathe work, or guilloch work. Don't seem to be so good with the spelling.
Japanese artist Hokusai's Daughter, Katsushika Oi, was also an influential artists. Her masterpiece, Display room in Yoshiwara at Night.
@@clementihammock7572 I had read about her!
Nowadays, many kids don't get to hands-on real dollar notes due to far too many Cashless E-payment methods, IC cards, and Credit Cards. I wonder wallet will one day replaced by smartphone??? 🙃
I hope not!
I also have problems with UV light flashlights, i guess they don't shine all types of UV light?
Thank you for sharing. Very nice note great colors.
I think this Japanese artwork was the first use of Prussian Blue pigment in Japan.
It's a beautiful new banknote. I got one last week maybe from the same source as you as my serial number is AA390850JS, 19 behind yours. The 5000 ¥ and 10000 ¥ are a must now. Thanks for the great review.
Looks like a great banknote. I will have to get one. I just ordered the 10,000 yen note last week.
Eventually I will get that one also.
Where did you order it?

Much appreciated
Extremely beautiful set of notes. This is the first time I have seen them. Another Benjamin inspired set of notes for me to look for. They have many themes on them that you have already done.
Awesome to see the notes graded out - I was pretty sure they would. Very nice overall grades and way to stand up for Benjamin - I was impressed before I heard your resume.
Thank you.

So, I didn't have popcorn for this, but substitute with some cranberry trail mix. Great show. I so hope to hear one's own truth behind his comments. Who knew drama happened here? Lol. You've always been informative, and sometimes I have to watch a few times because some things are just above my learning capabilities, but I do learn something new from you--always.
Thank you friend. This video was shot several times so I could chill a bit. This guy threw his weight around, and had no idea I was a similar "big boy" in numismatics. Bullies should grow up someday.
