It's not for everyone: FIFINE K688 XLR/USB microphone
So, I got my first product sent to me for review! And while I really wanted to just gush and say amazing things, there were just some things that had me pretty conflicted.

YOUR ANDROID PHONE IS A WEBCAM! DROIDCAM OBS!
Sadly, it only works on WiFi connection and not in direct USB-C connection. I would have loved this to work on direct USB-C connection. So I could plug in my tablet directly into my computer via USB-C and have it work. Sadly, that does not happen, which is stupid because if one actually had a Stream Deck, one would have needed to plug in the Stream Deck directly into the computer via USB-C port in order for it to work. So why can't we do the same for this? 🤷♀
It works on iPhone, and the Elgato team has said the feature is planned for Android. My guess is that it has to do with USB Debugging and software compatibility. Because with a regular stream deck it's just Stream Deck to Windows. With Stream Deck Mobile, it goes stream deck app, through the operating system, through the USB connection, and then finally interface with the stream deck software on Windows and then execute the command. So there are a few extra layers of complexity. But trust me when I say, I am pushing for USB connectivity!
@@thesalta72 Thanks for the info 🥰 I would actually purchase the Stream Deck XL, if it was priced at $149.99 and the one with the knobs for $99. I am not going to pay $250 for it, though.
@TwstedTV I actually have both, and I would say that the XL is definitely worth it for me at that price. But it carries the majority of my work. And the Plus carries the majority of just my general existence in my office controlling the lights and volume amongst other things. I get a lot of use out of them, but it depends on how much value you put on things like that, and how much budget you have for it.
Am8 or k658 which has the better sound quality? If i told you to choose one for me which one will you suggest me?
Both are USB mics, and if you have the budget to purchase the K658, I would say that you should save a little extra and get a refurbished Elgato Wave 3. And I say that because I haven't tested either the Am8 or the K658, so I can't confidently recommend them. But I can recommend the Wave 3, as I've used it a for a long time! Here's an affiliate link: amzn.to/4jy6ALk
Yes, immediate question is how to set up audio with/through the DroidCam versus separate audio source.
There is a little mic icon on the phone screen to toggle the mic.
thanks..i have a qustions did get 60fps ? as a wbcam ?
Loved the video, help me setup split screen easily. However every time my computer restarts, I have to click split screen again, pick which one, then on the other split screen. How can I make it so I do not have to do this every time my computer restarts.
@@MarkB33313 unfortunately you have to do that every time.
@@thesalta72 Thanks for the fast reply! That is insane you have to. You would think if they offer split screen they would be able to make it save to your last settings. Any word or have you heard if they are going to fix this? Also I read somewhere that they are working on that you can connect through USB instead of same wifi network? I guess the apple version does this? I live in the country and have 3 different internets lol, so I am changing it always, so I have to do tablet and computer. Thanks again for the video, I had got the 15 button version and although great and $160 CND on sale, I only had some things programmed but I found myself having to go 2 or 3 levels deep a lot and was a pain!!! I seen the video and returned the stream deck back to Amazon the next day after setting this up. 128 buttons on one screen is freaking amazing! :) Thanks again!
@MarkB33313 USB connection is supported in the Apple Version, but not the Android version yet. Trust me, I'm keeping an eye on that as well xD And from what I understand, the reason it has you launch split screen separately is because of how Android handles apps. I'm not sure that there is much that Elgato can do on that front. But it would be nice to have a setting for "Default Stream Deck". That way it just opens up automatically. I know that I for one like to be able to choose which stream deck I'm using depending on if I'm using it on Phone vs Tablet depending on which stream deck I'm using. But having a presets option could be awesome!
@@thesalta72 Makes sense about the Android part, never thought of that. Well lets hope they can come up with some sort of solution. At least I can stop trying 20 things to make it open the same as last time. It was driving me nuts lol. Thanks again!
Nice vid! Thanks for reviewing the mic, Sam! Looking forward to watching more awesome content on your channel :)
Thanks, Iris! I am curious to try out more dedicated devices. The main issue like I said in the video was that it just felt like it was trying to do too much and the value wasn't really there.
Muddy mics arent for me I will go with the am8 if i was buying today
Totally agree. This mic would be fine for a beginner who hasn't developed the ear for it yet. I really like my Wave DX.
Odd, that muddy sound over USB C is the exact same problem found in the Fduce SL40. I personally like combo mics as the portable/backup option. As someone that brings setup overseas and around, I'd take the combo mic over my DIY phantom power only mic since it can connect to the phone or the laptop over USB skipping the audio interface. If and only if my diy mic breaks somehow, I still have a good nuff XLR mic. Wouldn't recommend the Fduce SL40 specifically however. Plosives are killer.
Interesting take! Yeah, for portability and flexibility, if that matters to you, you can't beat a combo mic. And yeah, being a me to plug it in to your phone is awesome!
I have mine just plugged into xlr, is it better to also plug into usb c?
No... When you plug into USB, it basically registers as a different device. It works much better over XLR, but plugging in your phone over USB-C is a very good use case.
What microphone are you using? Let me know!
6:42 the tongue twisters!!!
A chat GPT special xD
They don't sell replacements....keep those parts away from the kids lol😂
I took the microphone out somewhere once and I lost the Windscreen in the snow. Luckily I found it, but it does have a tendency to slide off if not careful.
How can I do my Galaxy A9+ so it is vertical??? I turn it vertical and each 64 buttons are side by side and very small.
64 buttons would be an 8x8 grid, so it's going to be square. So turning it vertical isn't really going to help. You would want to do a grid that is longer horizontally as opposed to vertically. So for example an 8x4 grid would give you 32 buttons, and would orient better to fill your full screen.
Does Elgato ever put the IAP for the Streamdeck Mobile on sale?
I have never seen it on sale. But for $50 for a lifetime license, it's the best bang for your buck stream deck available!
What type of connection does it use? Can i use this on my tablet via bluetooth? Or do i need internet connection for this app to work? Is it possible to program these buttons as any key/shortcut i want? For example can i use it as a numeric keyboard (that i am missing on my PC keyboard really badly)?
For Android, it currently uses WiFi only. As far as I know, USB connectivity isn't supported yet like on the iPhone version. And yes, you can definitely make a number pad out of this :)
@@thesalta72 Thanks for quick answer. I was searching the internet for numeric keyboard, but when ii saw those crazy pprices i've started to think about stream deck ( i use Adobe a lot, so it could be useful) But the choice seems very limited for decks with lcd buttons... I reminded myself i had an a on my old tablet where i was able to program all sort of MACRO buttons, but the Android was a custom 4.2.2 version, so it is totally useless atm. I got Android 13 on my new 10'' rugged tablet so it gave me an idea to look for something similiar. Many years have passed and from what i see not much has changed. Limiting StreamDeck Mobile to WiFi only connection is really bad. I use WiFi dongle in my PC to connect my internet (smarthone as hotspot), so this app will not work for me probably. I don't think there can be 2 connections via wifi at the same time... Unless somehow the app can work via lan wirelessly (another reason this should use BT instead). No USB connection sounds like a joke. Well.. i guess it is created this way to force people buying the physical deck (it's price is awfully high for what we actually get). Thanks for the info anyway. You got a new subscriber mate. For now i will try to use a SuperDisplay app on my tablet via USB as an extra display with any functions i like. Will be cheaper aswell. Try that if you have not don so yet.
Useless. This doesn't really show you how to set up your stream so that you can easily edit the right places together. This doesn't turn a 3 hour stream into a 6 minute video. Oh setup your audio on tracks, okay, big deal.
Bro, you commented on a video from 3 years ago about what is effectively a social media content repurposing strategy. Of course this video is useless now. The industry has jumped light years ahead since then. Since this video was uploaded, we now have AI and WAY more OBS plugins to help make editing easier. Before you would need to add markers into your stream through twitch and then go back and right them down. Now we have OBS plugins that just add the marker to the OBS recording. The reason I don't talk about how to find points of a recording in this video is because at the time, since there was no super elegant process to do it, everyone had their own "easiest to them" way to do it. I would recommend some videos to you to help you out, but the fact that you took time out of your day to be a total butt nugget with your comment makes me want to never recommend you to anyone. Which is a shame because looking at your streams, you could really use some help. 😬 But here's a little advice for you. Instead of flaming a creator in their comment section, how about instead you just ask a question. A lot of the time, you'll get a full video just answering your question. But you won't be getting it from me.
@@thesalta72 - A little touchy are we? If you can't take criticism maybe you should just shut off your comments. Or delete mine, instead of writing an essay telling me how butthurt you were because I called the video useless. I didn't say it was useless because times have changed, but simply because there was no techniques, No actual tutorial in here. Nothing that showed me how to turn my live streams into videos. And no easy key to their success. Could almost call it click-bait. So first you talk about two successful streamers and say all they're doing is zooming in or switching cameras, or whatever. Further you state they aren't even editing. Well I mean sure they have a system setup for their live stream, that didn't turn that into a video. What turned those live streams into video. Did they have a system of note taking, did they plan their streams out in steps and then mark down the time stamps so they could go do the clips they wanted to later? What you then proceed to do to show us how to setup this thing about multiple camera angles or zooming in and zooming out each scene (which keep in mind is still part of the streaming rather than the editing of it into a video), you start talking about how you put all your stream audio one track, and then how to setup scale resolution in obs. And then finally you talk about putting audio sources on different tracks. While to someone new that may be interesting information, it still doesn't tell you how to edit your videos, it simply tells you a few settings that more than likely the viewer already knows about, and if they don't congrats on informing someone because that's the only value there is to this particular video. Hence my comment. "Useless" usually means the video was not useful to me, and thus why I didn't like or subscribe. If you've made it all the way down here, then I will admit maybe I was a bit rude, and I apologize for that, (at least I didn't downvote you) and if you didn't then you're probably the "butt nugget" (whatever that means).
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice vid! FIFINE also has some interesting audio gear. Did you try any?
Hello ;w; If i buy the pro version for my android, will it carry over to the pc? I just figured out the standart stuff and want to know a bit more about pro.
Yes.
@@thesalta72 Thank you so much ;w;

I am happy they added a lifetime license ngl, and it was extremely cheap in my country as well!
Elgato is the physical equivalent of the qoute, "I didn't ask how big the room is i said i cast fireball"!!! 😂
Is there any chance to change the aspect ratio to 9:16?
Flip the phone vertical and rotate the source in OBS.
@@thesalta72 thank you very much
Excellent video! I was surprised when I copied one of my profiles to the Stream deck mobile Device, that submenus were available. Awesome to have an 8x8 screen and submenus!
I got the droid cam to work on OBS but when I record there is an echo in the audio. How do I fix this. Thanks
You likely need to mute the microphone on your phone. If you tap the screen, it should be in the top right towards the middle.
I totally don't have the source. I click add source and i don't have the droid cam. I'm doing everything like on the tutorial
This video was so helpful. I just downloaded the app to take control of my music and i love it makes my life so much easier.
I'm so glad it provided value!
Let me start out by saying I am old, so the technology is difficult for me. I have OBS on my desktop, I have DroidCam downloaded on my cell, and I have downlowed the DroidCam extension and I see it in OBS. It is listed in my sources. Now, when I go to the properties though, the screen looks different from what you showed in your video, and it will not allow me to make any changes. I cannot enter my IP address or my port. What must I do to get this to work?
I have an updated tutorial here :) th-cam.com/video/UkQ3UKnHeiA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the review
Thank you for engaging! Hopefully you got value from it :)
Very straightforward and easy to follow!! Great Video! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm super excited for this app!

Thanks for the great tip!
Here 3 years late, but thuis video helped out a ton. subscribed and definitely checking out the rest of your content. Thanks sir
Amazing stuff mate
Thanks, Sam -- much appreciated! I was using the built in USB webcam app on the my Pixel 7, and the quality suffered. This is much better!
THANK YOU THANK YOU It worked. This was so helpful and you were great at explaining everything.
when i view the video i made on PC, the aspect is all messed up
it doesn't transfer over to the 9:16 ratio either for some reason
Wow. This was incredibly helpful. Thanks a lot! =)
Thank you for making this tutorial. This will have to do until Samsung enables the webcam feature in android 14.
Any way to make this work on a Mac?
Not sure. I don't own a Mac, and from what I understand the Python commands are all Windows specific.
@@thesalta72 Ok. Do you know of any other software that will do this on a mac?
Sorry, I have no idea. Like I said, I don't have a Mac so I don't do a lot of digging. I find Macs to generally be lacking in the streaming department when it comes to custom solutions like this. So I don't really mess with them.
Is it possible to get a samsung phone to work with a macbook? I cannot find a way to get the two to communicate so I can use the samsung phone as a webcam on OBS
Only con if there was one, is the background music was a touch too loud for me. Otherwise very helpful.
It's feedback I've gotten before. Future videos should be better balanced :)
I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I am failing from the CMD part.
Its so fun to watch your videos. Yo make me smile
Aww shucks! I appreciate it!
Bro you are awesome. Your channel is underrated. You solved my problem, Ive given a like, subscribed and will check out your other videos as well. Thanks
