Tillich may have lost his faith and never dared confess it🙏🏿 A liberal is one who has lost his faith and dare not confess it🙏🏿 Rev. Kolphen George Wilson . Havana , Cuba

I grew up in the UCC church and so was familiar with Tillich's influence on the pastors, seminary and direction of the church. But since the 1980's much of Protestantism went towards a literalist and fundamentalist backlash of magical thinking. And another segment of society a dissociative secularism and atheism which disregards the important questions of human existence. Tillich was a moment of sanity. Hopefully people rediscover his ideas.

David Carpenter Interesting connection. Theology goes liberal and culture does too?

It is only Catholics who are obsessed with suggesting that "G" indicates homosexuality or darkness or girls. Protestants have no need to try to discredit or slander freemasonry and the west. Catholics need to discredit Germans in trying to discredit Protestants. Dear God, free our world from the sickness of Catholic propaganda.

I wonderful set of clips. I am wondering myself how to secure clips of my grandfather's appearances on Frontiers of Faith on NBC. He was a contemporary of Tillich.

The apple segment is a wonderful non sequitur, rather like a sloppy or silly cut-away in Reefer Madness, a film in which Professor Tillich played no part.

Theology graduate student Werner Rode insists upon sitting at the feet of the Master, who (at 4:00) insists that his disciple take one of the apples not merely on display on a nearby table.

..."one long ancient battle...," humbly is right. Every generation has to find its own way. And post WWI was an incredibly pessimistic period, especially in Europe. Quoted before the war (WWI) "it still seemed possible then to sit in the center of the world and be able to understand everything." It was Paul Tillich and others, including some catholic jesuits who courageously struggled to inject faith into their contemporary lives who passed on a possible way to do it. A daring task.

This is difficult for someone starting out though - a young person will view everything from the past with suspicion, thinking it may have contributed to the present mess. I think that trap of uninformed pessimism becomes more deadly and catches more people as more and more recorded thought builds up without saving mankind - makes it seem like nothing does or can ever change, when in fact it's one long ancient battle that can shift for better or worse.

meaninglesness, anxiety, doubt, guilt, Not much has changed fron the 50's even with the fall of the Berlin wall. world wide poverty, hunger, famine, genacides, economic opression, hardship, trust in organized religion at an all time low. We need our students of philosophy, theology, psychology, to know that they can look back to others and not to have to start anew or feel alone desperate for answers. To trust that people like Tillich were there with the same stresses and anxieties.
