Never spill Citadel Contrast paints or Shades again! Drip Dropple Technique.

Hey ya'll! I wanted to combat the scourge of spilling that has been a blight on the hobby for a long while. With this technique you'll be able to use your Citadel paint pots with ease without fear of spilling and wasting paint! This is a pretty simple thing to do and work into your normal process. Don't leave your paint pots in your work area with the pot lid open and waiting to be brushed asid...
Nice Dude... Nice Rap🔥
Cheers my man!!
My brother Malev, [we could fool folks too!] you just gained a subscriber for that rap. WGA News brought me here.
Woo! Thank you my friend, I'm stoked you dig it!
This is such a great idea. Thanks for sharing! I've been using InDesign and cardstock to print some tokens I'm working on, but cutting them out is a pain and they can bend easily. Planning to start using this method instead for sure.
The idea of making up a small home brewed game from a single box really helps justifying getting the odd box of whatever you've been oggling for a while!
Ha right?! That's the whole idea really. And... we're just getting started! Cheers friend
Can’t find the link for V3 of convict
It's the same link as the V2, so if you revisit that document it will be updated!
Where do I go to buy a vinyl of your new album?
Right now, there is no vinyl! It's just available to stream for the time being. Thanks for your support man!
Grate video :) I will check out those miniatyres, and looks like a fun game
Thank you! Please let me know if you do grab them
That's how I've been making them for years, but mine are usually just some scribbles under the sticker.
That's supper r fun, Ii should give a go at drawing some lil custom tokens too!
@malevminipainting4453 With you being all artistic and whatnot, I'm sure your hand drawn tokens will look better than my scribbles.
cool custom convict collection!
Hahah, thank you my man. I'm..... proud of it?
Just.give it a tip tappy. A tip tappy tapparoo.
jus a lil tappy on the tip
Easy sub, dude! 🎉
Thank you my man! I really appreciate the support.
The gradient on the orange fatigues are really nice, Malev
yoo, big thank you my man! After painting them, I really appreciated them a lot more.
You have really nailed the sound quality in this video, very easy listening. On the thought of 1 box games is a great one for me, e.g. the dwarf blood bowl team was incredibly tempting for me because I knew i would only need to paint 12 models and be "done". Very satisfying and allows me to enjoy the detail and get to play quickly.
Ah! Thank you for that man, I was stressing over the sound quality in parts haha. Learned a lot making this. Next one going to be even better!
Love your games malev!!! You’re at the level with frostgrave, silver bayonet, deth wizards type games. If it’s got your name on it, I’m getting it.
My man. Thank you so much, what a legend. Stoked to have you in my corner!
i love making homemade games. ive been working on one for a while now. turning a PS2 game into a board game.
Oh? What ps2 game are you turning into a board game??
@@malevminipainting4453 not sure if you recall the game MASHED ? car combat basically. its gone really well. I've ironed out loads of rules and the game works brill now. I'm also working on a toy soldiers game too.
@@aaronwilkinson2519 That's way fun, I haven't heard of that game. I had to look it up! Glad to hear it's turning out
@@malevminipainting4453 ah awesome, yeah i spent many hours playing this game in my younger days :D like soo much time wasted haha....well i say wasted but not really :D
@@aaronwilkinson2519 ha! It's so interesting to think back like that. Because you really begin to understand how formative those things were. So much of what I do today directly correlates to the time I spent alone as a little kid playing with toys and using my imagination. I'm quite literally doing the same thing.
I also started developing my own battle royale themed game using these miniatures. Started on it a few weeks ago. Really cool to see what youve made. My game is simpler, more board game style than skirmish game. My game features item pickups, so I assembled the miniatures without any weapons. Some of them look good, but others have odd posing where its obvious that a hand is supposed to be holding a weapon. Originally I wanted to magnetize weapon arms, but it ended up being more effort than it was worth at that small size.
That's awesome my friend, it says something about this kit that its' inspiring in such a similar way. I feel it though, the trade off for painting miniatures with the weapons attached is that you have to paint more! With the expansion weapons for the game now, it's actually a total of 13 models!
Hell yeah!
This is awesome. Also the rap was fire.
Big love! I'm glad you was feeling it!
After watching this, your passion for coming up with "simple" table top games that can work from a single box of models is really inspiring me to 1. Try the game out with some of my Kroot Kill Team Models. Maybe something like a training regime for them during their downtime. 2. You've really inspired my to actually look at my models in a new light and to try and build some games with a more limited material set! Thanks for the great vid, new subscriber right there
Thanks so much my friend. I am stoked you are inspired!! For a Kroot Box, you know what sounds neat? a group of kroot trying to take out a spread out group of guards at the same time. It's essentially a mini game about taking the guards out stealthily. That sounds fun!
Wow I can't believe you rapped in the middle of your video about miniatures and stuff
You would
Version 2 is live!! There are a ton of new changes that I think you will really enjoy. If you are reading this, check the link in the description to get down!
So, Frag from Steve Jackson Games? great idea
Holy smokes! I've never seen that. It's so sick. That's also hilarious considering the conversation I was having with the CEO of Steve Jackson games this morning!
Just watching this, I thought of a few things that could be added for more flavor to the game: The nonplayer convicts could have different stats/rules (like one change or extra rule, two at the most) based on what they are in for (like a hitman being better at shooting, a gang inforcer being better at melee, a drug addict thats had his brain fried by whatever superdrug is around having no sense of selfpresurvation, and some guy in for tax fraud illsuited for combat) A five level campain that goes from minimium security (tax fraud type guys) to supermax (super dangerous and capiable opponits) in a bid for your freedom (rolling on different tables for each level) A bit of a lore idea here: not only are your fighting for your freedom, but also your individual identity. All of which was striped from you on incarseration. Name, race, face, all removed, a number is all you are now. You are not even classed as human anymore. I can expand on these ideas more, if interested.
PHIL MY MAN. You're in the zone. You get it. So hyped reading your words, and funnily enough so much of your thoughts align with mine and the first update for the game is dropping tomorrow and has a lot of those features! I wrote a bit about it on my Patreon, it's a free post if you wanna peep. I appreciate the comment, hell yeah expand on them joints
From the one box concept, my immediate thought was the Wargames Atlantic Foot Knights from the Age of Chivalry range. Something about either a historical melee, which was basically just a crap-ton of knights in an enclosed space duking it out for sport, or something like Dark Souls PVP, where positioning for backstabs, timing of attacks and blocks, dodging, parries, and the like is key. First video I see, and a great first impression.
Ayyyyyyyy, big love my friend. Can I just say that I have already purchased and built that Foot Knights kit! haha, great minds think alike. I'm excited to show off more about that project. ;)
Man, I want a 'Malev Reads' video. Dude's got the smoothest voice.
@@AnhkGuy haha cheers my man!
Very cool. Great paint jobs :)
Thank you!
Not going to lie Malev, I've been toying with designing a small skirmish game myself and I found this video super helpful. Thank you!
Cheers! Stoked to hear that. Check out the worksheet too and let me know if that is any use? I plan to try and make it better and better.
@@malevminipainting4453 Yeah absolutely, the worksheet is useful. It helps with getting the story straight before you start. I've got it on my desktop partially filled out!
I am using a Genestealer Neophyte group to play with a lasgun as the pickup weapon.
Yess, it looks SO COOL. Do you think you could make a more 'orange tinted' version of the walls?? I'd love to download and make some of my own with your stuff.
Awesome - great work! I have some Cannon Fodder minis and an Underhive box sat gathering dust. This looks like an amazing way to get some gaming out of them. Looking forward to giving this one a go
Thank you! That's what I'm talking about. You could be blasting by tonight! The document I feel is in a really good place.
I've had the kit for a while.... I want to make a team themed around Slipknot. Will be kit bashing with other kits to get more variety... Really cool to basically see you come up with a whole game out of a single box. The rules seem really cool!
Ha! That sounds like a fun lil kitbash project. And, thank you my man! I think the game is at a good spot right now, if you want to build 5 and give it a try!
Sorry mate, but 7 minutes in and I think you have missed the point. 1. Any table top game can be exciting if its genre fits your desire for the game. At the moment I am building to enact a battle where Mongols meet US Marines. 2. You seem to be into skirmish combats at the moment on a very small scale. Have you thought of D&D where one on one combats are a thing as adventurers seek fame and fortune. You could get this in the board games that involve figures. 3. You can reduce any combat system to a smaller combat scenario. Playing Dystopian Wars we reduced the combat down to two capital ships where the engagement took place in some shallows. The ultimate manoeuvre pinned one on some rocks leading to crippling damage. The point I am trying to make is there is nothing wrong with being creative. It exercises the mind and introduces new themes to people. But the inferences I was getting from your presentation was that big battles were old hat. If I am wrong my apologies, but I just played in a big game which involved about 30 people in a WW2 Normandy operation. It was fun, fast and resulted in unexpected outcomes. Just saying. Big or small it is the fun of the game that is important.
Cheers my man, I appreciate the thoughtful and insightful comment! I am not sure where I miscommunicated persay, because your comment reads very in support of the things in which I'm talking about. The point that I'm trying to make is also that there is nothing wrong with being creative, and that we can play/make our *own* games however we'd like! You're not wrong though, I do like smaller scale miniatures games. But I like to design miniatures solo games. And that being the case, painting up 50+ miniatures isn't going to help. But I don't have anything *against* other designs or desires, just have a preference for what I personally go for in my solo designs. I'd love to design a mass combat big battle game.
Didnt expect some old school hip hop beats and freestyle. 💯 even though i havnt played a game with my minis other than DnD, i hope i will someday. Currently working on Wargame Atlantic's Einherjar aka space dwarves.
Big love my friend! I am pleased you enjoyed it. 🙌 That Einherjar kit is pretty interesting, another one I've overlooked
Thank you so much for showing love on the video and for the game ya'll!! I've been writing like a mad man on the document and creating play aids and other things. The rules and documents are in a really good place right now, so if you're wanting to play / playtest get up in there!!
When i worked as an artist i would always save the tops off 20 ounce sodas i drank. I would use the caps to either keep a bit of paint in so my bottles wouldnt be open to spill or dry out. Moreover you could mix up a bit of custom color and at the end that bottle cap was trash to start with.
That's a fun one! It makes me think that about an idea i had for saving colorschemes, you'd paint them on CD's and then let em dry - then save them in CD binders like back in the day.
2 things, 1 thanks for sharing the rules. second an easy answer for minis could be a bag of plastic army men. Old school and rebel against the juggernaut of the "GW" man.
Cheers! I'm actually kinda interested in making something with Army mens
Love this idea. I created by havnt play tested a game using Green arm men, cards, and dice. My goal is you can go get the stuff you need from Dollar Tree or a similar for super cheap.
Bloody great video mate! Title drew me in with promises of DIY minimalist design, and you delivered. And just when I'm getting in the groove - "record_needle_scratch.wav" - I find myself in another groove. Dope. Anyway, I love this concept - it poked my brain in just the right way to inspire some ideas of my own. In a world where it feels like we can have anything at the touch of a button, it's healthy to be reminded of just how powerful constraints and limitations can be as a tool for unlocking creative pathways.
Legendary comment my friend, thanks so much! I am really pleased to hear it. Working with the limitations is a form of 'going with the flow' and it can be really rewarding.
First time seeing one of your videos - great stuff! This kind of thing is exactly my jam. Maybe throw some Running Man/American Gladiators nonsense in for additional spice 🤔
OH SNAP. American Gladiator style death contest, now we're talking! I can see in between 'rounds' of this game, the convict has to just for entertainment purposes also navigate a deadly obstacle course to get to the next arena. Lmao I think we got something here
@@malevminipainting4453 YES! And "entertainment" makes me think of a popularity mechanic that can give the convict improved starting gear or in-round bonuses. Because I love campaign mechanics 😆
Ohhhh!! Haha that is way fun. There is a part of the game round where I am thinking there could be a whole 'arena event' table that has a lot of different options happen. Crowd favorites and return stars seems pretty fun to mess about with!
Love getting the walkthrough of your process the whole way, especially how leaning into the constraints you’ve set for yourself helps guide things. Casual mid-vid flow break is 💯
Yooo, thank you my friend, I'm really pleased that you dig it. I'm already thinking of how to make the next one better and more informative, and I'm also excited to show off some cool mats too ya know.
This was cool to see! Thank you for sharing a bit of your process in game design!
Big love my man. People like you remind me of why it's so great doing this. Can't wait to hang out again
Love this video, both how to design a game and also a view in your own mind! Awesome content, thanks Malev :)
So kind Alice, thank you! I am really pleased to have your eyes on the project.
New to the channel, looks like a fun game, looking forward to try it.
Yess! Thanks for stopping by my friend. The game is fun! I'm making active changes to the document still, but we're getting there
Inspirational stuff! Cheers Malev!
Pets, thank you my friend, glad you enjoyed it!
Was not expecting to hear a rap featuring the phrase "Wargames Atlantic". :) Awesome creativity! Love the 'one box' concept. Wargames Atlantic has quite a few sets that could work for this... I could see some kind of melee tournament game coming out of their new Foot Knights box.
Also, your FLGS rules! What a great minis selection.
Cannon Fodder is such a good kit.
nah for real real, I slept on it in the beginning but now I have a lot of ides to use them for!
It kind of goes against the one box theme, but you can expand the weapon/equipment options with the other Cannon Fodder box, which has a different special weapon, and the the Wargames Atlantic Accessory Sprue which has shotguns and laser guns on it that all go well with the Fodder.
Cheers friend. I came home with that accessory sprue from the flgs last night! I'm totally thinking of implementing some rules for it in the game! It has some fun bits on it.
Game design is not an arcane art, anyone can do it. This is what gaming should be. The indies and the DIYers are really the true spirit of gaming. Look up old names like Featherstone, Bath, Hyde, Conliff, Morschauser, not only did they write rules, they wrote about how to make your own rules. Here on YT the British Pathe' series has several old newsreels on people doing exactly what is being done in this video. This stuff needs to be where people go, 40k is not accessible, one box and a few quickly jotted notes to agreed upon parameters and you have a game. #accessingaming
Thank you so much for the insightful comment my man, yes! I will absolutely dig into what you've suggested, I'm unfamiliar with most you've mentioned.
Hear hear! This was my early gamer life, English magazines with one-shot/scenario rules in each issue that my mates and I would hack to let us play a different way. Cardboard counters and hand-written rules of our own devising - gamers free and in control of our own experience. I slipped out of that life for a couple of decades, lured by the pretty models and glossy propaganda and product catalogue James Workshop dangled before me - but I'm returning to my game-punk roots now, rediscovering the joys of making stuff with my hands and what passes for my brain. Long live open-source, support the indies, and just make your own stuff!
Big ups my man, I am right there with you!
Great video! This looks like an interesting and easily accessible game. I've been wanting to try war gaming, but the entry cost of Warhammer has always been too high.
Yoo, thank you my friend! You've really inspired me with this comment to make other tokens, that which are labeled as convicts and things so that you can simply play this game with token pieces if that's preferred. No purchasing of miniatures is really a requirement!
Love the idea of 5 minis and small arena, too few well thought out games like that. I like the premise of arena shooters and the piles you set up.
Thanks my friend for the kind comment, I'm pleased you dig the concept!
@@malevminipainting4453 I'm thinking of making a game like this. I think commercial Wargames are escalating when it comes to cost, amount of work, units and terrain etc. Not every one has the amount of disposable income + free time to paint 90 minis, build a 4x4 foot terrain set and has a friend circle of 6 people for each faction.
I the concept is solid. You have to use the terrain and perks strategically to defeat the opponent. Trying to avoid a fair playing ground. But you also have to balance out for the opponent once you get a perk or bonus, maybe some sort of "commando point" or simply having to remain a complete turn on the perk to get it etc.
I am totally with you there. That's honestly the main driving force for me to make miniatures gams that are played primarily solo!
@@malevminipainting4453 "driving force for me to make miniatures gams that are played primarily solo!" That's why I got myself into Five Parsecs From Home. It's a neat concept, I also liked that you played around 6 vs 6. But the table heavy outside skirmish game kind of demotivated me. He should have made a small board game overworld or space travel like in Faster Than Light (the Indie Game) or in Fallout the BoardGame with the HexGrid, but fights are skirmishes. Thinking about modelling something like this myself.
I would make things more free form. Action points rather than actions. It's small scale, you can crank up the flexibility, while remaining "low rules".
Oh! I'm all ears. Would that mean we'd have to change the actions being tied to dice? Or do you mean perhaps that certain actions should cost different action points costs?
@@malevminipainting4453 actions being tied to dice. hm, that would be an interesting concept. I am making my own ruleset to play with my niece and nephew. It uses action points as dice pool, each action point is either die or an inch movement. The skill + weapon describes dice or limit of dice you have/can take out the action pool. I have a free form magic system that works with limits. etc.
@@malevminipainting4453 mana, endurance/action points could be a dice pool limit. What I'm also looking at for a wargame is D20 and default Target Value is 10 (50% chance), from there on things can be modded up and down, skills and obstacles, resistance etc. If the opponent rolls an opposed roll, you roll against their skill+bonus+mods etc. But you can't do "action points = amount of dice (including damage cap".
That sounds really cool! And, I am also pretty keen on using the d20 in a design sometime. I'm sooo not used to the swing of a d20 every time I use one it can feel like I roll low for agesss
@@malevminipainting4453 "I'm sooo not used to the swing of a d20 every time I use one it can feel like I roll low for agesss" Yeah D20 can become swingy, because of the random range. But you can balance it out properly so mods and skill play a bigger roll.
