What was the Deal with the Thirty Years War?
มุมมอง 9603 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today we are gonna find out "What was the Deal with the Thirty Years War?" and hopefully get to know some cool historical figures.
I've never heard about this guy before. Worth mentioning if you're gonna talk about the Louisiana Purchase, the french acquired it a few while before they sold it because they saw it as a failure. They trade territories in Italy, that reconquer after that trade btw, for Louisiana, so basically they gain Louisiana for nothing 😂
You can really see the character of Tallyrand appear again and again in a lot of novels. Cheat Death from Balzac is basically Tallyrand. Komoravsky from Doctor Zhivago is another Tallyrand.
If you think Tallyrand was an opportunistic survivor, check out the Abbe Sieyes. He started out defending the French Revolution. He ended up defending slavery and the Confederacy.
this is so good edited keep it up and belive in yourself
So you would rather have a country just promise to not declare war again? A peace treaty is when you boil it down just a legal document, no different from what a laywer would probably make you sign if he where to take your case or an employer would make you sign with the conditions for your employment. It is Napoleons fault he when back to France and went to war again, NOT the british and allies fault. There is a little thing called personal acountabilty…
So he was the best King because he won wars and centralized the country around himself? That is what i get out of this video and i’m not sure that equates to true greatness. Not a single mention of how he meaningfully improved the lifes of common people or solved societal problems. I am gonna guess that he didnt do those things…
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback! You're absolutely right that true greatness in a ruler encompasses more than just military victories and centralization of power but Winning wars and centralizing the country-especially in the feudal context of the Middle Ages-were critical ways for a king to improve the lives of his subjects. Philip also enforced the law and transformed Paris into a true capital, building markets and expanding city walls, which benefited his subjects. So Philip’s actions created stability and growth-key achievements for his time.
@ My opinion is that rulers should both be held to the standards of the time and today. I apreciate and understand that for medieval times, he was probably a true reformer, a “great man”, but if he lived today, he would be comparable to some of the more succesful authoritarian dictators of the last hundred years.
@@neutralbychoice3584I see your point, and I can understand how, from your perspective, many medieval monarchs might seem comparable to the authoritarian dictators of the last century. However, the goal of this video was to highlight that Philip Augustus stood out as one of the more exceptional and better "medieval monarchs," particularly within the context of France.
Talleyrand was played by John malcovich in the new Napoleon movie enough said 😂😂😂😂
Firstly, Cockroach.
Great video man! History is spot on and the editing is really cool, makes it an easy and informative watch.
ngl Charles V was a gigachad, one of the best kings of France. I'd be happy to see a longer video on him
Absolutely, Charles V was a legend. A deep dive into his reign could be epic-thanks for the suggestion!
Too much crying about j ews and heretics, otherwise good video.
Really fascinating! 👏 Your storytelling makes history both educational and engaging
Are you Persian?

Wish we could settle politics like they did when richard the 3rd was dethroned, do u know how fast id grab my mf sword if they said we could swordfight the MAGAs? All they know how to use are guns 😂😂😂 not even real swordship training

@@thecringecaretaker8548 what would you know about his unmatched valor in the battlefield?
Edward the 2nd came to a very nasty end if the rumors are correct.
Red hot poker up the bottom.
Éléonore was such a b****. Pretty sure she was the inspiration for Cersei Lannister, she was treacherous, manipulative and cruel. But at least she loved her kids.
New to the channel! Would like you to cover the early Capetians (pre-Philip 2nd). Even the Robertines who were their parent house (Robert and Odo) who were the direct successors to the weakened Karlings. Seems like a relatively uncovered part of the French monarchy.
Welcome to the channel! The early Capetians and Robertines are definitely an underappreciated part of French history. Sounds like a great topic to dive into-thanks for the idea!
I find it annoying that people whine about "but he was French / (insert ethnicity) other than the majority in the kingdom. So what? If they didn't care, neither should we. Should a prime minister strictly be Anglo-Norman today? Of course not. Let alone KING.
Check Charles V. Be ready.
A video in charles v could be really cool as well
Absolutely! Charles V is a powerhouse of history-might have to dust off my notes on the Habsburgs for that one!
@@Historia_Majestic He might be speaking of Charles V of France "The Wise"
@@volcanares9620 Oh yeah. The 'Wise King' made some big moves during the Hundred Years War. might have to do a deep dive on him soon!
@@Historia_Majestic Yes exactly, he's a great king, it's a shame Charles VI became mad and ruined all his work

Great video man keep up the great work
Charles VII
He was a great king too.
plantagenets were french lmfao does "Plantagenets" really sound anglosaxon to you ???😂😂😂😂 stop embarrassing yourself
I didn’t mean to suggest they were Anglo-Saxon. By 'English Plantagenets,' I was simply referring to them as kings of England. If that’s what you were pointing out, I hope this clears it up!
Germany was fully guilty of WWI and Versailles was very lenient. Spain didn't exist in the Thirty Years' War.
The Spanish empire under Philip IV did participate in the Thirty Years war.
@Historia_Majestic The Spanish Empire is a historiographical term, not Spain.
"Absolutely fantastic! 🌟 Your storytelling makes history come alive and inspires viewers to connect with the past in meaningful ways. Keep up the amazing work!"
I really appreciate the kind words. Glad you're enjoying the channel!
Absolute banger
This war was very much a family war as well. These men were relatives or shared relatives. Philip II of France shared siblings with Richard and John of England for example.
Your videos are really good. Keep it up
Glad you're enjoying them!
I wish France still held on to their royal family.
How would that improve the lives of French people?
@@whyismyricewet1986 They would still be French and not ruled and replaced by foreign oligarchs
Blame Louis xvi and his brothers for being incompetent idiots.

King Philipp II was for sure the best king of France. Although Richard Lionheart was a better commander, and probably a better warrior, Philipp was an excellent politician, which was key as feodal system was a complex structure

Richard was the best king in his brief tenure. No revolts, all people were on board with his conquests, and it only helped that his status as a crusader king bolstered his legendary status in the eyes of his people, commoners and nobles alike.

"Feared warrior" well she wasn't, she was just kinda there.
Magna Carta did not usher in parliamentary government, and there was no parliament at that time. An excellent summary.
A parliament is a continuation of the Witan and other similar practices.. so technically it did in its early form.
You're absolutely right-the terms parliament and parliamentary government didn't come into play until Henry III's reign. My intention was to highlight how the Magna Carta began setting the stage for this gradual shift, pushing the English monarchy toward a more structured, parliamentary form of governance. Glad you enjoyed the video!
This video is a masterpiece - every second is filled with passion, creativity, and inspiration. Truly captivating!
